Format Factory,Quick Media Convertor,Super are overrated, there are good only for some kind of formats, not for all.Try to convert difficil, complex format and you will see.Pazzerra it's remain in the past and is not so good from my point of view.Any Video Convertor is not preferance of the guy from Techsupport allert but he make a good job even is not fast(advantage:is free and convert with quality),Iwisoft is not mention but is from the best converters video to swf from the world. With Moyea Video4Web Converter you can easy convert and edit video file for who was created,i make this with mov file(i don't know if :Avidemux or Vdub can make this)and is free but if you use:Site Advisor it say that this site is very dangerous but i have two programs from Moyea:Moyea Web player,Moyea Video4Web Converter that is very good soft and free and at my scanning with two antivirus suites i don't find nothing. So i believe that Site Advisor and Wot are similar(popular vote and probably commercial interes,i don't believe in this,i believe only in my European antivirus suite).

Avidemux is video editor not ipod converter.Super is not soo good program,i work with him and only problems and this is perfect for mkv convertion soo this soft is my choise and is free.Mencoder i don't try it yet but i believe that it is not so good like Sothink.

You have to restart the pc to complete the installation. But restarting means you have to go back to the zip file to fish out the readme with the registration code in it. With something requiring you to input registration information, it's rather illogical to have to restart the pc so that you no longer have the information handy to register the app

For#7.What you say is wrong. With Moyea Video4Web Convertor you can convert your file from computer(for what format is created)and is also a mini video editor and interesting if you want to convert flv it say you to go at Leawo.Or they colaborate or they are the same company.

mkv is not a format it´s a container. There are many free programs out there that can handle this container well like Avidemux, mencoder or SUPER.

This soft has a big particularity in comparation with similar free or comercial soft from this category:convert mkv format that is a superior format and is many video on Vuze in this format.Leawo comercial or free don't work with mkv,but version comercial work with:ogg, flv, etc.Soo together make almost complete duo.Maybe in future will see here version Pro from Leowo.

We, the Regulars, at GAOTD look forward for Reviews from "Ashraf" #1, and "Fubar", and others ... they DO have GOOD inputs and analysis.

To #12 "EB-GB" ...

1) As far as a Batch Converter that can convert to different Formats at the same time ... Like "ASHRAF" has been sayin is "Format Factory" ... even though it does have a little room to improve.

2) As far as High RAM use ... I, for one rather the Program use up 100% of CPU, instead of dogging my RAM ... for obvious reasons.

EB-GB loved your input ... jogged my mind to think about some other things ... hope to see you post "Reviews" more often.

THANKS to GAOTD and SoThink!

Gone Fishing! :)

#20, you obviously have little knowledge of iPod devices. You are not limited to watch video only on the iPod's screen.

For several years, most iPod's have a TV out facility. You just need a special lead that connects directly from the iPod to any TV or monitor with AV sockets. If you encode your iPod videos with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, you can watch these in a quality similar or higher to normal TV transmissions.

Great for watching movies in vacation homes or hotels. You can get around 75 full length movies on a iTouch 120GB!

#20: "I agree with #14 & #16 – I’m sure that the iPod is a technological marvel, but I just can’t imagine trying to watch a movie on such a tiny screen with such a low resolution."

That's what I always thought, but it works surprisingly well when you're stuck somewhere killing time, or when you want to show someone a short video clip or something, & don't want or can't use a PC, laptop, TV etc to do it.

Despite the great reputation Sothink has earned with their Flash/Shockwave software, I'd strongly suggest backing up your system before install. Their iPod Video Converter install includes AviSynth, ffdshow, Real, a few Direct Show video filters and so on. ffdshow does not run on every system, & can muck things up if/when you're one of the unlucky ones. The DS filters, code from Real, & AviSynth despite recent file dates are mostly older versions, & may conflict with other software. Ideally you should install those sorts of apps individually, using the latest versions... that way they're not only available to all your software, but won't disappear when you uninstall any single app.

Sothink is not alone in their approach, bundling other, needed apps & code libraries so you only have one download & install -- in fact that's a big part of the problem, since you can have 2 or more packages dueling for control of what video-related files you have & use. Because ffdshow is included -- which is reportedly good software *when it works* -- I again strongly suggest backing up before install.

Otherwise Sothink iPod Video Converter uses the very common ffmpeg for encoding, has 6 files destined for your system32 (or sysWow64) folder, separately includes VSFilter.dll, the Matroska Splitter, ffdshow, & AviSynth installs, adds Real codec files to the Common Files folder, and includes only Apple output profiles stored in separate xml files.

For who want to use digital signature for free it can use this soft: http://www.casualengine.com/software/cesignature.htm
after read carefuly what is on page and download and read help pdf,go to download here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Miscellaneous/CE-Signature.shtml
I test it only with antivirus and no problems from this point of view. For who want to use it for bank, transfer money, bussines try it first with prudence(I don't test it),don't transfere a lot of money and use a separate credit card, bancar cont with a few money to don't lose or to be stolen until will see if it work,it is from China and you don't know if is good or bad.So again, prudence with this soft.

For me, anyway, the registration doesn't "stick". When I input the registration information, the program says "thank you for registering", and the Help/Register link indicates the program is registered. But when I close/reopen it, the program says I am on a 30-day trial, and I am again requested to register.

Steelers6, conversion programs typically ALWAYS use all available resources to transcode as quickly as possible. 100% cpu usage when converting isn't a bad thing.

Xilisoft software works best for me.

Pros:

Able to install and register on vista 64OS
Does support many output options albiet for Apple productd only
Fairly easy to use interface
Nice that it gives you the option to shut down after conversion
Decent to good quality output
Can select to use it for video or even just audio

Cons
No help menu to be found
Limited to apple products only
Does use an unusually high amount of CPU resources. Yes, I checked prior to conversion, during conversion and after.
While converting, I was not able to fully use any other programs.
Was unable to use the trim format at all
I also suffered a large lag time to get it to start on a new Vista computer running very few programs with 6gb of Ram and it still is quite the hog.
Required a reboot of my computer (not an awful thing but is it really necessary)

Overall:
If you are an avid Apple Product user (Not apple computer user) and are in need of such a program, it does what it says for the most part. Since I personally use an Ipod and other products not apple related, I can't say it would be all that useful to me since it is limited to Apple products.

Overall I give it a thumbs downs because of the cons and because it is somewhat buggy and it does not support Apple OS computer users. I will admit most converters seem to suffer some cons.

The fact that it does not seem to support the apple community at all on the main web page the system requirements are stated as "WindowsXP/Vista/2003 Server" Most avid Apple fans use Apple OS' it would be wise for the developer to make a product for this group as it would most likely be your most captive audience and software for them has been limted and very expensive to say the least.

All being said avid Apple product users may find this to be a fine program with only a few minor cons but I still as a consumer think that $25 for a product that can easily be abtained for free will not help the company much. How about giving apple users a shot at these products, I feel they are so often exclued or made to pay premium prices for the same or similar products that windows users enjoy and not all Apple OS users use Apple OS by choice, it is often a requirement by thier jobs or employer.

With so many free alternatives offering more capabilities and not limited to Apple products only, I find no real use for this product. Overall Softhink has produced many quality products but I just can't justify the $25 asking price when so many products offer this for free and are not limited to Apple products only.

Thank you for letting me test it and to all of the users for helpful feedback provided to the developer.

I agree with #14 & #16 - I'm sure that the iPod is a technological marvel, but I just can't imagine trying to watch a movie on such a tiny screen with such a low resolution.

I remember when they first came out, how amazed I was that people would not only spend hundreds of dollars for the device, but also commit to paying thousands (over the course of time) for the two-year minimum contract agreement with their sole ISP, AT&T.

For today offering, GAotD staffers, thanks, but no thanks. I will not offer a rating about how well the software will do its job, but thank you for finding us new apps to try out.

This is okay for an iPod. Does anyone own a Zune? Sansa? Archos? Walkman? Zen? It would be nice to see an offering that can handle all these, in addition to an iPod.
Cheers.

Somehow, I just never got caught up in the iPod, iTunes craze other than considering to use one for data storage. Watching a feature length movie on a two or 3-inch screen just never really appealed to me. However, if I was and thought a conversion utility would be a good thing to have, then besides a features comparison I would consider its ease of use. How many virtual buttons do I have to push to get it to do what I want it to. I would look at a programs speed (i.e., how long do I have sit or stand around twiddling my thumbs or doodling while the program is doing its “thing”). Stability would most certainly be a major deciding factor, as it might be somewhat annoying if every now and then I’d have to hard boot my PC because the program would occasionally become “unresponsive”. Then there’s the quality of the programs output which would be sharp image, good audio, yadda, yadda.

Finally, rounding it all off I would look at a programs Help file and available tech support. I’d like to think if I had a question or needed to contact the developer, I would get a response within my lifetime (or so I’d think).

#1 What you consider bad is the norm in most cases. I can think of a lot of programs that ask you to reboot after installing. All video converters are resource demanding, and just because you hit CTRL/ALT and delete to bring up your Task Manager and the performance shows 100% it doesn't mean it's a resource hog. Quite contraire it just shows that your processor is using all of its abilities to process what ever it is you're doing. Show me one batch converter that doesn't convert everything to the same output settings. If you have a seven second lag try defragmenting your drive and cleaning out your junk files.
I converted several scenes from a favorite western (About 60 MB's in about three minutes) with great quality being the result. I had it loaded onto my iPod in another minute. I think you should take the word BAD that you so often use and use Picky On MY Part because rarely are your bads really and truly bad. By the way, my program opens in 1.3 seconds (Yes I timed it). Thanks GOTD for another great offer.

GOTD has been giving away a lot of video converters lately but I will give my opinion on this one, I use some of Sothink programs and this is a good one it does what it says. But #2 is right FormatFactory and FreeStudio are better, but this is a good program if you don't have anything. Thanks GOTD

Thanks for today's giveaway. Honstly, the installation is not smooth since it requires a system restart. Kind of scratchy on the interface. I hope it does not have connection with its output quality. Free alternatives can be found everywhere. My recommendations (Order does not matter):

Leawo Free iPod Converter, clean and free, pretty interface for easy use.

Format Factory, widest range of format support, especially for format maniac.

Hello! Everyone.
Pros:
* It is very easy to understand what it can do and where to do.

Cons:
* To complete the installation, computer needs to restart, which is unwanted to me.
* Cannot view the thumbnails of the specific video on this software.
* It even cannot play the video I imported from my computer.
* When I select the imported avi video, and click "edit">>"trim", it says "Failed to trim this file". So does the my .rmvb video.
* Takes up 100% of CPU usage of my computer during the conversion.

Summary:
No need to read manual. Simple but not effective.

Free alternative:
Moyea Video4Web Converter(Only for web use)

ipod video.....It does a good job and as a free item it is worth the download. Great, not at all but then very few are and they are not free at any time.

If you need a converter to ipod then it may as well be this one.

I do prefer programs that do a lot more than one thing.
