Need to see this one come back again. My old laptop died, and I lost my copy of this program as a result. I made use of it for a website I maintain, but the price tag is obscenely high.

Very nice software for free and it will definitely get me to look at their software in the future. Interface isn't perfect, but has a lot of nice customized options so I can get my website looking professional!

Program loaded OK in Windows7 32bit. Activation took a little longer than expected but it did work. The setup complained about not finding something in Dreamweaver which I ignored and the program loaded OK anyway.

The program works with "KompoZer" my normal .html editor and with Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3.

Without reading any of the help info I was able to create a primitive test menu that immediately went to my website and displayed the page.
Now to learn how to really use it. :-)

I like it! TNX GAOTD!

Solution for #22 and #34 !!! If it reports:
“A connection to the activation server could not be established [0x800c0019]. Check your Internet connection and then try again.”
Then it may be a time difference related connection restriction...
This happens for example, if for any reason the Date and Time of your Computer differs signifficantly from the real time. Please, correct it and try again! There is no need to leave from the popup that gave the message! Set the correct time of your computer clock and press to retry connection. That worked immediately in my case. Hope it works for you too.

Same problem as #22, Pa Ajasko: "A connection to the activation server could not be established [0x800c0019]. Check your Internet connection and then try again." This happens even with my firewall disabled. Did a Revo Uninstall (Moderate), then re-installed, and the same problem. I am in Canada, using XP SP3, 2Gb Core 2 Duo. Help?

#3, Inas - the free alternatives you suggest have not been updated since 2004. Did you actually test these applications before suggesting them or did you just do a search for free dhtml programs and come up with those two?

I love this program! Been using it forever on my laptop, keep upgrading because it is worth it. Thrilled now that I can put it on my desktop. I love Sothink products - thank you GOTD! I have no problems on installing, just copy and paste registration name and key as directed.

Just a note to SoThink:

I installed this to update the last version. While I was my SourceTec program folder, just for the heck of it I launched the Sothink Logo Maker given away here awhile back.

When I did that the Logo Maker came up as un-registered and the info box was prefilled with the GAOTD information. I clcked and the program re-registered itself.

This is something you might want to look into.

I am having much trouble with this software. I tried this so far on 2 separate partitions on my machine.

(1) XP SP3 Dreamweaver cs3
(2) W7 64 bit Dreamweaver CS4

I get the same problem with both, which is when I run the setup, it brings up the extension manager, and it says it installed fine, but the setup program itself will hang up about halfway, which then I can't close it.(I have to wind up ending the process). Then, when I load dreamweaver(both partitions) the option is in the menu just fine, but when I goto select any of the options in the drop down, it says that the widget is not installed, and would I like to download it now from SoThink's website.

I am confused as to what to do now, can someone help me please?
Thanx

Three days in a row and three awesome pieces of software! Installed and registered perfectly on Win 7 x64. LOVE the fact it has integration with Microsoft Expression Web, but the method of inserting code is not particularly intuitive; my experimental code ended up in the wrong place and I had to move it manually inside Expression Web. OK, I'm lazy. ;o) But expect a little learning curve on that part.

The selection of template menus is excellent, includes both horizontal and vertical menus, and some very nice "Web 2.0" glassy and transparent styles. Nice submenu options, too, and a few nice transitions (also a few annoying pixelated fades and blinky animations, but who knows, someone might like them). Also love the calendars...those are always a pain to build from scratch. Everything I tried was pretty easy to customize through a very full featured interface. It's going to take me a while to find out what everything does! (New toy!)

I was a little disappointed by the inclusion of what looks like proprietary branded menus from sites like Amazon.com...scammer's dream?...which probably was not the smartest idea Sothink has ever had, but nobody said I had to use 'em.

Overall, I am delighted and I think anyone who develops web pages will love Sothink DHTML Menu 9.3. Another winner for Sothink and GAoTD!

Looked at the samples provided on the Sothink homepage - some didn't look well in Firefox 3.5.9, so it's not 100% cross-browser compatible.

Halfway through the installation I get a message saying "Setup failed to launch the Macromedia extension manmager..." It tells me to run dwsothink.mxp. When I try to run it, it cannot open the file. I'm on Win7 64Bit.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh..... I think i'm missing something here. Tried to install this on 2 different partitions, and neither work! On the first one (The more used one) Its Win 7 64-bit, and i'm using Dreamweaver CS4. On the other partition, its XP with Dreamweaver CS3.

In BOTH cases, once I click Setup, and let it do its thing, the setup application hangs up right after it installs the adobe extension, and never gets goign again. The process bar stalls, and I can't end the program in the task manager.

THEN...

In Adobe CS3, I DO have the menu called "SOTHINK" in my menu bar, BUT everything I click on it says "You have not downloaded this yet" and then it takes me to the Sothink website????????????? CS4 Says the same thing, but doesn't even take me to the website.

I try to look under program files to see if there is some sort of a standalone, but theres nothing.... What am I doing wrong????

The program is now registered. The registration details were on a pop up that was hidden being another screen or webpage that was opened. When I closed the page, the registration details were visible, so I registered manually and now all is fine.
However, the addons for Dreamweaver wouldn't load. I have Dreamweaver CS3, but I also have an ancient Macromedia version of Flash and the program tried to find a Macromedia version of Dreamweaver which I don't have.

I wasn't very enamoured with the menu templates. Not much originality or flash designs. However I'm guessing that perhaps you can tweak them? If this is so then perhaps you can get something more creative looking. I want to create a fantasy styled site which none of the menu templates would really suit as they appear at the moment.

Re: Ashraf's comments:

I may say I am a long time user of GAOTD. I have found that I can save a lot of time and hassles reading Ashraf's comments and visiting his website. He gives some fantastic advice on his website on this GAOTD offer.

I must also say Sothink products have been quite useful.

#14, Laura, there are all sorts of implications to using Safe Mode. You should avoid Safe Mode except where absolutely necessary. Among other things, it runs at a higher privilege level than other Administrator accounts (at least on Vista and higher).

As Ashraf (#1 comment) mentioned menus created using DHTML and/or Javascript can cause problems if Javascript is turned off in the browser (yes, some people turn it off, e.g. for security reasons).
That's one of reasons to use CSS as much as possible.
So to create great looking CSS based menus I use and recommend CSS Tab Designer

Regarding "Error 9", make sure you entered both the registration name AND the registration code. The program should register correctly then.

To Diego:

My home (residential) ISP somehow compresses the data that I send and receive, so I am never able to activate GOTD software from the house. When I try, I get the invalid key error. Now when I see something good, I either take the laptop with me to work or I head for McDonald's.

Have used this for a few years now. Highly recommended even if you have to pay for it - and it's free! Only problem I ever had was in the very beginning, trying to figure out the best way to publish it to my websites. Once I figured that out, the rest was easy. Was able to move it gracefully from XP to Vista and now to Win 7. It just works.

Brief Review:

Program downloaded and installed smoothly on Vista x32 OS. Nice user-friendly, easy-to-navigate GUI, with loads of available settings and options from which to choose. Only downside (so far) is that the activation process seems to be buggy (keep getting "cannot connect to activation server" error message, even though my internet connection is working fine.) Have not yet had a chance to use the program fully, but SoThink is a reputable company that produces reputable products. I will be able to easily add dhtml menus to my blog site with this program - so a definite two-thumbs-up for today's giveaway. Than you, GOTD and SoThink, for this wonderful gem.

Downloaded, installed and registered as easy as breathing.

A fantastic give away for someone involved in web design. Takes away all the time and hassle of setting up a menu system leaving the developer on other aspects of design.

Thank you for this much needed utility.

The Good
* Makes creating dynamic JavaScript based menus very easy.
* Supports creation of horizontal and vertical menus.
* Supports creation of dynamic database driven menus.
* Gives you full control over your menu and its contents.
* Comes with many very nice predesigned templates that you can use (or you can start from "scratch").
* You can preview your menu in a web browser before publishing.
* Provides you with directions on how to place the menu on your website.
* Has plugins for FrontPage, Dreamwaver, and Expression Web.
* Has extra tools such as sitemap generator, Google XML generator, etc.
* Excellent help section and tutorials.

The Bad
* Menus do not degrade gracefully for users that have JavaScript turned off.
* Sneaky "watermarks" are tucked into output files.
