Second Giovanni's suggestion on doPDF.
Have been using doPDF freeware for a few years.

Before that was using Bullzip PDF until it started to impose unacceptable limitations into its free version.

Another minor annoyance is that the "about" button and the desktop icon label both say it's V.3.0 when it's actually 3.0.6.

I had a previous copy of this and had to delve into the program files to find out if this offering was the same or an update. I've relabeled my desktop icon to forestall any future confusion.

@Karl: Sorry to hear about the failed conversions. We're forwarding your feedback and screenshots to our developers. Would you be able to send in the files to our techsupport@investintech.com so we can take a look at what's going on and try and fix the issue? And yes, we are a Canadian company with a branch in Serbia. Our Canadian address is located on the contact page: http://www.investintech.com/index.php?page=about-contact Thanks for giving Sonic PDF Creator a try, Karl. In any case, we'll give our tech team a heads up on your issue and keep you updated on what our devs have to say on those screenshot errors.

Installed and activated on my Dell Windows 8 laptop without problems. It did exactly what I was needing...opened a pdf and added a line of text to the file and saved it to the pdf.

It also extracted pages in the middle of a large pdf with no problems.

I use a virtual pdf printer to make pdf's from other files so just needed something that would let me do some editing and extracting.

Definitely a keeper for me.

ghostscript(installed without prompt!) and visual C++ 2005 installed (already I have but it installed it again! without prompt!). I hate it
already I have Foxit products and very stable usage for me. I don't need this one or adobe products. sorry.
only good thing: touch friendly interface.
*foxit reader's virtual printer can create pdf without ghostscript.

@XP-Man: Sonic is able to edit the PDF file itself, not the text or images within it. So for instance, to add bookmarks to the file, you can use these steps:
1. Click on New + and fill in the bookmark behaviour in the Action section.
2. Click on Edit| Save. Repeat 1 and 2 for every bookmark you wish to create.
3. Click on Ok and the bookmarks should appear on the left hand side of the page in the viewing window.
4. After any other additional changes needed, hit the Save button.
For visual reference, you can check out Sonic's Help file.

Regarding the PDF creation, what type of file were you trying to convert? Files such as images, for instance, will need to be done through the virtual print driver. If you have any further questions on Sonic, please let us know. We'd be happy to hear from you.

@Herriot2: Very true. Though MS Office does have "Save as: PDF", there's always the possibility that you may require additional PDF features for different, more complex types of PDF content such as ebooks, brochures, or contracts. These may need watermarks, bookmarks, attachments and so on. Thus, the option for a PDF creation program is always a good one to have. Although you won't be needing Sonic, if you have any PDF-related questions, please feel free to get in touch with us. Thanks for stopping by!

@bjork: Thanks for trying Sonic out. In regards to editing text, Sonic is aimed at editing the PDF file itself, not its content. This is why you were able to add pages to the file, delete them, rotate them and so on. To edit the actual text, you may want to try converting the PDF to Word and edit the content that way. We've got Able2Doc which may be a better fit for what you're trying to achieve. Hope this helps! But email us at cs@investintech.com if you have any questions.

I've been using the free PDFill Tools for several years now. (I also own PDF Converter Professional.) If you're looking for a free utility, I highly recommend PDFill Tools.

#10 Shane Potter: Putting your data "on the cloud" is trusting people you do not know to protect your data and respect your privacy. Why anyone would do that is beyond belief. Would you invite a complete stranger into your home and let them walk out your door with all of your banking information with their promise to protect it? Well, putting data "on the cloud" is worse - you don't even have a physical description of the bandits to provide to the police. P.T. Barnum had it right...

If you are like me, you never understood why they would have an Adobe Reader PRO when you can get cheaper/free alternatives to do the dirty work such as, exporting, deleting pages, merging pdf's into one, moving pages, etc.

Alas, this would be the only reason I would see the need for the program itself especially after Karl's disappointing experience. I have used an older version of Sonic before and while it does do some simple things well that may appease some people ( such as deleting pages ) it isn't efficient enough in what the main focus of the program is there for, to convert other files to pdf.

I have had similar results as karl as well with files failing to make a pdf with Sonic.

I did install and then uninstall the program though to confirm that it would initially work with Windows 8.1 which it did.

So to sum it all up, if you need something that can delete a page this may be for you. I think I will be sticking with PDFComplete myself even though even it has some minor flaws.

Big thank you from Investintech.com Inc. and GAOTD though for sponsoring this product as I'm sure somebody can get a good use from it.

Don't really know why you'd need this given that MS Office already has a "Save as: PDF" option. I am sure its a good program but not needed in my opinion so I am not even going to Download it But thanks GAOTD

I believe in adobe cloud and plan to continue my full membership so this program is useless to me.

The point I am making though is For the first year of membership the full membership price is under 30 dollars a month and you get access to a whole slew of programs created by the company that puts out the Acrobat series of software.

The comments so far seem to be negative to a large degree on this particular giveaway and I am guessing it is a major disappointment.

I have successfully installed the program on win 7 pro 64 bit,I5 2500, 8 GB RAM, Microsoft Office 2007 , disabling all the antivirus and firewall and other active programs.
When I try to run the program, a window appears that says "Sonic PDF Creator UI has stopped working, windows: it is a problem that prevents the proper functioning of the program, etc., etc."
Developers can help me?
thanks

Installed without problems on Vista, but the software doesn't work properly for me.

For the majority of PDF files that I tried to open, the program crashed after showing a "Failed to display. File too big, etc..." error message. All of them were under 5 MB and one was a 84kb plain text-only PDF.

For the couple of files that did open, the editing features worked fine.

I've been using it for a while without any hassle!

Can create a PDF file from Microsoft Office and Open Office docs, web pages, RTF and TXT files.

Users can add headers and footers, image stamps, insert attachments, merge multiple PDF files, extract pages and even create a booklet.

And it's very easy to use since it also provides an entry in the right-click context menu.

THUMBS UP!

As best FREE alternative, I recommend this FREE GEM which doesn't require neither GhostScript nor .NET:

Well I am familiar with todays software but I am searching for program which can be used to make or edit pdf just like any other word program. Even after we convert any pdf into word or execl but still finds it little complicate to edit the document.

Installed and registered without the slightest problem and an opening a pleasant and clean interface was presented, I had high hopes.
Open a PDF in the hope that it would be editable in this program, no such luck, could not even get it to add a bookmark.
Thought I would try and create a PDF, it does via printing!

A combination of Free programs will do much more than this program.

Create them in OpenOffice or Libre Office.

Add bookmarks using the superb Jpdfbookmarks available at the following link::-
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jpdfbookmarks/

And no list would be complete without PDFill PDF Tools (Free), look for it in Google.

A lot more work is needed on this program to make it worth anything like the price they are asking when you consider what is available for free.

I turned on my Wondershare Time Freeze and gave this program a try out on my XP2 SP2 system. It wants to have Net Framework 4.0. Sorry, I only have 3.5. Then it attempted to install Some Run Time program but it failed on my system. After it was done with the install, I opened the program. It looked okay but none of the drop down menus would work. I can only guess my system is not capable of running this program. I will stick with Foxit. It's free and it's portable here...

Thank you for the offer but I will pass.

Installed and (self-)registered without problems on a Win 8.1.2 Pro 64 bit system.

A Canadian(?) company without address, but many personal info about the team (mainly Serbian names) - and something else:

A "what's new in Sonic PDF creator 3", no I'm not joking:

Sonic PDF Creator 3.0 Released

Investintech introduces Sonic PDF Creator 1.0 – Be Sure Your PDFs are Secure!

http://www.investintech.com/products/desktop/sonic/new/

This is the version 3.06 build in June 2014. Let' see...

A nice looking interface opens, the pull down menu works in an unusual way, the first attempt to make a PDF file from a simple TXT files failed:

http://www1.xup.to/exec/ximg.php?fid=86189012

Ooops! The second attempt to open an existing PDF book /my test file, the Hungarian cookbook, remember?) failed with the following message:

http://www1.xup.to/exec/ximg.php?fid=65969575

I am testing for only 10 minutes and things do not work as expected.

No further comment. May surely be a nice and working software for somebody else. I am afraid, that there are more problems.

Uninstalled via reboot. Other programs can handle both files without any problem.

Thanks GAOTD! I've been using Sompo Merge and Split (another GAOTD from 4 years ago) on my Win-XP Pro machine, and wondered what I was going to do when I migrated to my new Win 7PRO machine! Now I know! Installs cleanly, and works exactly as described! Thanks again!
