Karl was the commenter known for the comment-"uninstalled via Reboot." Just to verify.

Download and activation was a breeze. I am aware I don't need it , but I like it. I probably don't need half the things I buy but. What the heck, I want to experience it. By the way I think it is a good software. Thank you.

It's a very dark screensaver but beautiful to watch the movement of planet Earth showing clouds and night time lights. You can also see stars, the sun and the moon. It's worth the download. Thanks to GOTD and the developers for this free screensaver.

Could not activate. I click on activate.exe and it asks for my approval and I give it but nothing happens.

Not exactly what I came here looking for and yes I know that laptops don't really need screen savers but I'm a sucker for space stuff. So, here the good and bad: Good - This is a very nice screen saver, good graphics and I guess the music is ok but you can easily mute it if you don't like it. Bad - I liked it when gaotd would have video editing programs every couple of days and really useful programs instead of all this nonsense. I miss the old days.

I was rather disappointed that I could not change the background music, as I have quite a few ambient space themes I would have like to play, as opposed to the not-very-good music that is bundled with this. I was also surprised to learn that the earth slows down and stops in it's rotation occasionally. I think it does this so that the camera can catch up, or something like that. But sometimes it goes backwards a little bit, too, while the background stars continue their movement. The only other parts of the solar system I saw were the moon and a little of the sun. I only watched it for a few minutes, so maybe the other planets came around later. Because of the heavy cloud cover I couldn't really make out any land features on the daytime side, and when the nighttime side was prominent I could only see "lights" where major population centers were supposed to be.

Uninstalled because I couldn't customize the music, whether it be to change it or silence it!

fatherted, I doubt you really *need* one...

Reply   |   Comment by Michael  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-4)

fatherted,
NO, YOU DO NOT NEED A SCREENSAVER. They take up disk space and if your have an SSD, you are constantly reading/writing to that SSD, which shortens it life a lot. Not only that, screensavers allow SERVICES on your PC to operate and the less SERVICES in use that YOU DON'T NEED, the better, and I mean that. IF YOUR PC TAKE A BIT OF TIME TO BOOT UP, THEN YOU NEED TO SHUT DOWN ALL 'REMOTE' SERVICES, as well as other services that take memory and disk space.

My PC has WINDOWS 7 and it boots up in 5 seconds. If yours is 30 seconds or more, start shutting down services, screensavers, and startup programs that are unnecessary. Working on other people's PC for many years, the biggest problem I have found is in SCREENSAVERS and SERVICES. If you don't want people to know where you are, then shut some of them down. IF YOU DON'T MIND HAVING A BULLSEYE ON YOUR BACK, IGNORE MY SUGGESTIONS.

The Activate.exe is not working for me so the program does not appear to be registered, no name, no key in settings. Please advise.

Reply   |   Comment by Bill Lundmark  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Bill Lundmark, I to wasn't able to activate or registrar the program, But found that all the files except the Readme.txt need to be extracted to the same folder before lunching Activate.exe.

Fred,

Thanks, Fred. It was unzipping to one folder, which confused me at first, but your comment led me to copy the unzipped files into a new folder and then the activation program started up properly. Problem is I didn't do this until today, several days after the giveaway date, and now I'm getting an error message that "the giveaway is over...." Can anyone help me with this?

Screensaver looks awesome, but unfortunately the author appears to be a bit behind the times when it comes to resolutions and multi-monitor setups.

1) The software doesn't support a 2560x1080 resolution or even the 25:1 ratio. The result is that the planets look elongated and not circular; which is unacceptable. That caused me to uninstall.

2) The software only uses 1 monitor and doesn't support multi-monitor setup

Please come back with a version that supports 25:1 ratio and multi-monitor and I am in.

TK,

Good call. I am not an expert on how resolutions are expressed. I just know that this software does NOT support wide screen monitors of even similar resolutions. None of the choices within it showed a circular globe. They all showed a grossly deformed early.

About 10 years ago, Astro Gemini created an almost identical screensaver. This 1 has slightly better graphics, nothing spetacular, and a city lights look in the night. Other than that it's not worth the HD space. Uninstalled via reboot.

Paul, I miss someone whom I always based my decision if I should install a certain giveaway here on GOTD or not when you mentioned "uninstalled via reboot". Sadly, I Can't recall his name as I'm having memory lapses. I don't know he's no longer here in GOTD. Was he been banned here? I hope not. And I hope he's fine wherever he is.
