This application feels like an unfinished product unfortunately and does not meet my needs for sorting or downloading at all. Mix in the bugs found, and I am going to suggest steering clear of this application until some of the issues have been resolved... BladedThoth

Awwww... Another surprise, not! ROTFL Don't worry folks! I can't think of any GAOTD offering that BladedThoth actually recommended (there might be something like 6 tops, if that). So don't let his reviews scare you off.

I think the problem with most complainers (I am talking about the ones who come here just to complain daily) is that I think they are entitled to the best the world has to offer for free! Maybe some people have a royalty gene or something. LOL

Okay, I would actually pay for this software. It is so far the best of any I've tried for one specific purpose: I have a bunch of photos, all different sizes and resolution, that I need to resize and/or crop for PSP screen (480x272 pixels). I need to do this visually -- determine if just crop will do it, or if resize or combination, and also rotate the photo if needed. This gives software gives me absolutely easiest way to do all this. One thing that I would still like is to be able to pre-set my crop value so it appears on the drop-down. But even without that, this is absolutely great. Install it and try it if you need to do this type of sizing/cropping/rotation.

Thanks, BladedToth for the review. I always read the online reviews (starting with CNET when available) before I download. You covered everything; I think that I could make this work for me, but that it will just sit in a folder while I go back to PhotoShop for my purposes.

I wish I was using this site back last November when Total Image Converter was up; I'd like that.

On the whole, I'm pleased with the offers. If I get one a month that I can use, that's one more that I don't have to buy. Thanks, GodT!

Shelz (#20) - Not happening. Big company. Doesn't need the advertisement here. However, you may be interested in VirtualDub.

Steve (#24) - Chances are it's only a dictionary attack (plus character rotation), which I'm sure is available for free.
If not, can't be too hard to code with all the open-source libraries available to do such things (or similar), so I'm certain it'll come along sooner or later.

jewel (#63) - They probably wouldn't. I wouldn't. But then again, I've been trying> to stay away from being mindless about what I say here (Though admittedly, not always succeeding.).

BlackBunny (#65) - You're one to talk.
Anyway, it's not www.paint.net they're talking about, but an application called "Paint.net". It's called this because it uses Microsoft's .NET technology, not because it uses the paint.net domain name. Google for "paint net" (no dot), or just get Paint.net.

Aurea Torres (#73) - Simply amazing.
(And me quineg?)

Radiodad (#81) - You can't be. Otherwise you'd know every answer of every angle of that question. Seriously: We've been through those questions time and again.
Now, don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to be rude, but there's something to be said about beating a dead horse.
We are on the Internet, though, so I guess that's also par for the course.

Thanks GOTD! As always, some of us completely appreciate the hard work you put into bringing us free software...some good, some not so, but regardless, always FREE.

To all you crybabies...I've said it before...why don't you just grow up and TRY to show a little gratitude for being given the choice to download free software or not. No one is holding a gun to your head to make you try it. Move on and say nothing, or use the manners your parents SHOULD have taught you and say 'Thank you' and leave it alone.

Sheesh...the one place you think you can escape all the ignoramuses...

This is my first post...not that it will stop me from jumping into the fray...:D

People, if you don't like what GOTD has to offer on a certain day, how about just simply posting a "no thanks, don't need it" and move on? What is it helping when you act like a member of the Whiner family because the software isn't what you want?

If you download it, install it, and there are problems with the software, then go ahead and post. The developers would probably like to hear what went wrong. But if your critique boils down to "This S***s!", it isn't going to help at all.

I've been a regular visitor to GOTD for a few weeks. Some of the software has been very good. Some didn't meet my expectations, and others I just wasn't interested in. But I'm glad to have the opportunity to try it all out if I want. So how about some courtesy?

Oh, I forgot...I'm on the Internet. Never mind.

OK, so why can positive comments get a green/go ahead, but when you try to post a negative comment, you have to tell them why you don't like it?

Hi GOTD, I would like to just say, thanks, for being there for us folks, to enjoy freeware, everyday, that normally is never free, thats a big plus, in my book, and as for so many negatives here, it totally blows me away, why complain, when its offered for free, no one has to download anything, unless they want too, and also for the bashing some of you do, to each other, is quite nuts, you should do that off, of this home page, this is suppose to be for how we feel bout the products given, not for being a place to air your negativity for anothers comments, thanks again........

Okay, WhiteRabbit, for what it's worth, I'll try to explain this to you.
First, I started using this site about the same time as you. Here's what I know about you: You're Stephen D. Brown, a former hippie educated in the life sciences. You're disabled because a woman hit you from behind as you were cycling to work. Nowadays you stay at home, and after seeing the kids (Emily, 6, who likes Barbie dolls, and Callum, 8, a budding chess player) off to school you sit back with a drink and come to this site. The games you've downloaded here are hugely popular with your children, though no game-playing on school nights except for special occasions. Your wife, also an on-line chess enthusiast, spends her days lecturing.
Shall I go on? I know more. I know it from reading this comments section.
Now here's what you know about me from reading the comments section: I will not be downloading SnapTouch.
My comments (the first of which didn't mention names, you came after me), are not new here. Others have tried to make the same point and the point is this: there are forums here for general and off-topic discussion. Day after day this column is bombarded with one post after another by the likes of BillW50, "The Advanced Specialist" (I tried to keep a straight face while typing that name but failed) and a select few others who cop a smarmy, know-it-all attitude and put down people who come here with legitimate issues, ragging on them for not being experts or having the latest technology. Granted, you seem to be a friendlier guy than those others, but your feel-good homespun tales are more suited for the forums.
This is not my site. GOTD is free to let anyone say whatever they want. But do you remember the nitwits who used to praise Jesus and Allah and Buddha for the software? And more recently, the dozen or so people who thought they were first to post every day and had to tell the world? Why aren't they here anymore? It's because they were annoying and wasting space. I, for one, don't miss them. But if there are rules, they should apply to everyone. And if there are no rules, then I, and everyone else, can stop complaining. But the Jesus thankers and the fist-posters are gone and the people who jump all over those who don't like a certain giveaway are still here, so DO NOT TELL ME THAT CERTAIN PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF GOTD DON'T DICTATE WHAT GETS POSTED HERE.
In closing, let me just say that I'm sorry about your troubles, I truly am. I wish that on no one. And I'm sure you have a wonderful and loving family. I do too, but if I told you about them every day, you'd see where I'm coming from. Lastly, if you go back and read our earlier posts, you'll see that I never called you a loser because you are disabled, you called yourself that. That's the morphine talking, buddy.
Now everyone feel free to flame me or call me names. I'm here for the software, not the hugs.
But first, tell me where I'm wrong.

Hi there I have done some research and would recommend the following software which is featured on the GOTD Freeware site - Photo Toolkit from VicMan software - www.photo-toolkit.com. Like SnapTouch it's free and it's a simple editor. However it does offer a couple of nice little touches, unusual in a simple freebie -
1. It's integrated with Windows Picture and Fax viewer also it appears in the right click menu of any image. This makes it extremely convenient, easy and fast to use.
2. It features sophisticated repair functions - it calls them makeup (for potraits) but I use them to fix specks in my sky - from a dirty sensor.
I use Photoshop AND Picasa - I plan to add Photo Toolkit for those really fast fixes. Hope this helps.
Keep up the good work guys @ GOTD - I have only recently joined and already have got value with the great Advanced WindowsCare toolkit.

Okay, so there was this guy, you know, and he like downloaded this file from this like website and it was free and everything, but the guy didn't need the program and he like never used it and it totally used up too much space on his computer and like slowed it way down and everything, so he deleted it. And then the next day he saw something else that he thought was way cool, and he downloaded it and everything, and it was this super fun game from Game giveway of the day or something like that and now he doesn't have time to do any work because he's always visiting these deal a day websites and free giveway websites and all so I think he's going to lose his house and everything. bummer.

Aurea Torres (#35), I cannot believe how lucky you are. The "moderator" is probably sleeping today. My past comments were much more kind than yours, yet they were always deleted.

Very lucky!

BTW, http://www.paint.net many of you mentioned seems to be forwarded to some US paint making (or reselling) company. Are you guys sure this URL is current?

SnapTouch itself is useless. It only survives thanks to people who buy first-click software without researching its qualities/competitors. And thanks to GAotD promoting them. I wonder why they pick companies like this, if they are becoming this famous...

Hi,

Firstly I like to comment that GOTD & Freedownload.com is by far the best website I have visited. It provide more tools and choices (free & not free) to us . The giveaway is free and mostly is great one. Keep it up guys for your great work!

Secondly, I hope to get advise from those experts posted earlier advise about Gimp and Paint.net. Can any of you (who already tried and compared) advise which is the 'best' to 'equal-up' with Adobe Photo Element? Thanks guys!

Complete waste of time for anyone who has been on this planet longer than a day! GOTD Team - you CAN to better than this! There is no "value" in this giveaway at all - for example (and their are many) Picasa does much more, quickly and easily, and is FREE! IF GOTD keeps on dishing out stuff like this then I will rapidly lose interest.

Today's program has an extensive help section at their web site, so maybe a good one for newbies as long as they get it free today. Don't think it's worth $25 on any other day though, too many excellent freeware alternatives such as the already mentioned Picasa.

#12 lubomax, scroll back. They offered a password recovery program on Jan. 27th, just not AccentSoft's.

#6 Mike, Photoshop Elements is not freeware. If you want free security programs there's plenty, check out AVAST Home Edition, AVG Free Edition, Spybot, SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, Lavasafot's Ad-Aware SE, Spyware Terminator 1.8, Spyware Blaster 3.5.1, etc. Getting a security program from GOTD that normally has a price might sound great on the surface, but only if you planned to purchase after trying. Keeping only GOTD versions means you're not entitled to any upgrades, fine for other kinds of programs but security is too important to forfeit upgrades. Better idea to buy a commercial security program and have an always-freeware one as backup.

#26 Jim, your senior friends who don't like the digital world will get interested once they realize they can email, chat, and exchange photos with out-of-town children and grandchildren with no postage or long distance charges. I used to volunteer teaching seniors to use computers and the internet, they got far more interested when realizing the communication possibilities. Once interested and over the "I'll mess something up!" fears, they learn fast and have FAR more patience than younger people.

#29 Princess, you can't send people GOTD programs they missed. That's stealing darlin'

Hey GOTD Guys, Thank you for this website. I'm on a limited income and this is the first site I check every day! I always read the comments, both good and bad, to help me make up my mind if the giveaway is worth downloading and trying. I don't know a whole lot about some of the software and even computers in general, so the comments help me make an informed decision if its worth my time.. Its Still America where you can say anything you want , so to all the ranters here, how about just your opinion, GOOD OR BAD, and maybe some intelligent comments, not just dissing someone else for their comments. Thanks again GOTD and kplease keep up the great work :)

I debated downloading and installing this program due to the fact that I can't figure out my digital camera let alone edit the pictures. When I visited the software's site showing the features along with detailed tutorials I leaned towards the "installation" side. It looks simple to use, well documented and may get uninstalled, but it appears to have strong merits. The strongest being the online documentation and tutorials that are loaded with information and good examples. These excellent support features by the company would merit the purchase price and show an obvious concern for their clientele.

Wow, the moderator will have a fun time editing this group of comments.

Your absolutely right with respect to negative comments being useful, that is, if they are appropriate. I have no problem with many of the negative comments on this site as the people who post them actually give some useful information such as names of useful alternatives or reasons why the software isn't up to scratch and if you've read some of my posts, especially over on the game giveaway you'll see that I do exactly that 'some of the time', Especially with the games that I am most familiar such as the arkanoid clones; or generally just say thanks this is a nice application because I mean it, and i think it is important to say thank you for something that is given away free. What your comment says is nothing, and is sarcastic at the same time, so is a real waste of space.

With respect to hitting a nerve, in a sense yes you did, as I find such comments as you made uncalled for. You're doing exactly what you accuse me of, cluttering up the comments section. Tell me exactly how was your comment useful.....it didn't name any useful alternatives, it didn't give any reasons why you thought it was rubbish. All you could do was accuse a number of posters here of dictating what is offered on this site. Jeez man I didn't realise I had that much influence, lol.

You wont find any comments from me directed in such an appalling way as you, especially your personal attacks in your reply to my comment. (If I have I will have apologised as I did to anonymous several weeks ago). Being drugged up with morphine constantly does make me lose my temper over the most trivial of things sometimes. With respect to you calling me and others losers that have been quite positive about many softwares given away on this site I find even more appalling especially as I am now severly disabled due to someone hitting me in a car at 50mph while I was cycling to work. So technically I am a loser now because i can o longer work. I have no other pleasure during the day than to sit in front of my computer as I can do little else.

Anyway as @Smoke to much@ says lets keep the comments to the software at hand.

I'm in complete agreement with Aurea #18, 35. Well said. And it's not the first time this has been brought up.

I wish these long winded peeps would stick to the software comments and helping others THAT NEED IT... rather than picking out others on the comment list to attack. You're a different case Aurea, as you're making a point about it. But there was no need for White Rabbit to come back on and post to attack you. Looks like White Rabbit is more of a troll than a rabbit. lol He responded kinda quick. lol

Let's just stick to the software comments, huh peeps?

I like this software. Easy to use and I like their other software as well. Nice interface. Takes a few steps out of doing things manually through Windows.

Thx GOTD and devs!

That comment (#42) does not mean that I don't like this site. It just means that I "get it". I visit every day and have gotten some decent software from here (I've gotten MUCH more, also for free, from www.download.com but I digress). It's just that seeing you "fan-boys" suck up EVERY SINGLE DAY no matter how useless (or unusable, even) the software is makes me sick. If they weren't making money they'd shut this site down. Think about it.
When 25% or more of the posts tell you of better quality freeware alternatives, there no need to post how great GOTD is.
