I have to echo what others have noted--what a crap Web site they have! It looks bad even for a hobbyist site, much less for a site selling Web development software!

Nonetheless, I downloaded, installed, and registered the program (Win7 x64) with absolutely no problem. I'm a professional developer, with in-depth knowledge of HTML, CSS, and javascript, so I'll probably never actually use this product in production, but it might be interesting to play with.

First affordable website design software I've come across with a database integration tool. If it works, and the learning curve isn't too steep, this software is going to be a keeper.

I registered late, about 3 hours before the expiration of the Giveaway. Registration took a couple tries for me, first two times I got a "You need to be connected to the internet to register" message (or something to that effect), then third time got the "Registration Successful" notification, and the program now no longer shows as a trial 30-day version.

As many have said, it isn't intuitive. You need to look through the many tutorial videos and help web pages to get an idea of how it works. I installed on Win 7 64-bit, had no problem. As a "test page" to work with, I took a screen shot of a web page, turned that screen shot into a .png file that I then loaded in SliceMaker via it's "Import" button, and started messing around with it.

I had limited time available to play with it, but I think it's actually pretty neat. Definitely a very "different" way of going about creating a web page (because basically you either have to design the graphic layout using some other program first or else use a "template" that you have created from some already-existing web page), but I think it could come in handy. Time will tell.

It seems like it actually functions quite well. It's too bad there was so much difficulty for many people during the registration process. Perhaps the offer could be extended for people to have another try at it...

Downloaded and installed OK. The program seems overly complicated, and I found it hard to follow the logic of whats its trying to achieve, made more complicated by the program vanishing in a blink, this happened twice in 10 minutes, so I uninstalled it. I'll stick with Dreamweaver it more logical and intuitive.

Probably too late to see my comment posted, but still, I admit to being puzzled. Attributing the extreme slowness to overwhelmed servers seems difficult to reconcile given the capacity of today's bandwidth and puterpower except maybe because of intercontinental throttling?

What is even more confuselating was the look of their home page. When compared to the more professional-looking albeit simple sample pages with one touch CSS editing - their home page gives the impression that the vendor hasn't tested his own web site across various platforms, didn't test it with cookies blocked, and thus didn't catch the default centering of the ENTIRE site. It makes the site look, well, eewww.

The "USER GUIDE" "videos don't seem to be videos at all, but simply compiled images - no audio, no text, no search function, no help. Clicking "view the demo" sent me to basically a static sample page: "http://slicemaker.com/sample/webpage-16/example.html" and I am not inclined to click the redundant "Download the Demo" button below the View the Demo" button. giggles

How can this be a demo?? It is certainly NOT what I would expect from something called a USERS GUIDE!

I think this program has potential, but someone in the vendor's skunkworx needs to be retrained or fired.

Download and installation seemed to be just fine on my Windows 7 64 bit. It only took seconds to download, installation was quite fast as well.

The registration on the other hand.... Still not working or appears to be not working and throwing errors. I have followed the directions to the "T" and each time a window pops up saying registration took place and that it would restart. As soon as I clicked on the "ok" button another window immediately follows stating the server is busy and to try again in a few minutes. Program never restarts as per the message window stated.

This has been going on for approximately an hour (or longer now). It still shows as a trial when manually exiting and restarting the program myself.

I have never had this much problem registering any software before. Nor this much aggravation. I would have to say it's hardly worth the time let alone the amount they are asking -- for those that do BUY the software.

First impression of the software...

A HUGE MESS! The menus, buttons, options, information, etc. Nothing but a jumbled scrunched up mess that makes using the program difficult. The overall feel to the program is not user friendly in my opinion.

The top menu with the hotkeys as they are....terrible decision by whomever come up with that idea! The options, items, and such below the main menu as well as within the "options" preference area are so small and scrunched together that it makes seeing and using the program a pain. I'm all for tool tips and help but at least make them helpful!

Of course this is something that one would have to familiarize themselves with using and there will be a learning curve to some degree. That in itself is quite understandable. However... just out of the box you would think in 2014 a software program would at least have a look and feel that was decent and not so...messy and jumbled up.

I went through the menu items to look for an "About" or some way of telling if the software showed it had actually registered even though the errors continued to appear - there wasn't any "about" to be found. The menu items are very unintuitive in some cases. Confusing to say the least when going through the program in order to start using it.

I attempted to contact them to offer feedback and get assistance with registration only to have the email unable to be delivered to the email address given by them.

Guess it's NOT customer friendly in that aspect either!

While this MAY be a good program... it's at the very least difficult to even consider with the current issues.

You've got to be kidding me.
Their website is the most unprofessional looking site I've seen in years. It looks like it was written by an elementary school web class.
I just can't imagine the software being worthwhile when their own site is so bad.
Sorry, I have to pass on this one.

@Anton (#21):
Of course, they’re offering website building software, as you stated.
But their only excuse for their website would be them hosting their own website since any hosting provider should serve way better.
Not to mention that their sales-manager (#23) simply seems to ignore that comment, and only refers to the registration process.

Now, for that matter, with almost 350 votes and 26 comments, I may expect that the amount of people who actually tried it is between 3500 (10% voted/commented) and 35000 (1% voted/commented).

Then let's go for the worst, which is 35000 requests to a webserver in 15 hours, which is in general 2333 requests per hour for the registration process, double that (because of people watching their website) to 4666 if you want.
That, in my opinion, leaves no room for excuses, since any professional website should be able to handle that.

Horrible experience! I've spent the last hour trying to install and register SliceMaker. First time it downloaded the file was corrupted so had to do it again. Then for some reason the thing took about 5 minutes to actually install. When done it would open then about 30 seconds later the program would close. Uninstalled and reinstalled and now the program would open as the trial version. Before registering I tried to "import" a scan from my scanner, but that is when I found that "Import" meant "open" and there was now opportunity to "Import" directly from a device. "Import" meant "open" a file. So then scanned the object into PhotoShop and saved as a.jpg then opened that in SliceMaker and it cut off the left 200 pixels of the .jpg file. While I was staring at the cut off file the program closed. So tried another .jpg file that was saved from another program. It opened correctly, but then again the program closed on my after about two minutes. Opened it again and went to "Help", "Register" and it asked for a username, which from the readme file should be "GAOTD", but instead of asking for the registration code it was asking for a password. Tried every combination of my name, my e-mail address, GAOTD and others for username and reg code for PW, or other PWs that I'd used in the past on GAOTD programs as I recall trying this one last year when another version was offered, but nothing I could do would work so could not get it to register. Finally after over an hour of fiddling I uninstalled. As a Web site developer I thought I might have a bit of use for a product like this, but if just installation and registration are so problematic I can only imagine what frustrations using the actual program could be.

Installed it on Windows XP..no problem!
Using Holmesian logic I deduce that Windows 8 is another pile of Microsoft junk, as was Vista.
The program itself is usable.

Installed and registered quickly on Win 7 Ultimate. Since they don't have an "About" page under the help menu, I couldn't tell if the software has registered properly or not. Then I noticed at the bottom left corner of the software a line saying "Welcome back GAOTD..." which means the software is registered.

I was able to download the program at my usual DSL speed. As others have noted it takes a long time for the instal to complete but it runs OK on Windows 7, 32 bit.

After hunting all over opening screen (that always starts full screen) I was finally able to find the right "Help" icon that allows you to enter the registration process. After it seemed to finish doing its magic the program restarted and I checked to see if it was registered and the "about" screen showed that it was the trial version. After registering again I happened to notice in the bottom left corner of the program screen that it has GAOTD as the registered user. So it does register the program properly.

Unfortunately I am spoiled after using free Komposer.com as my web authoring software and this program is just to unwieldy to use compared to Komposer for a hobby website. To see what a Komposer site looks like take a look at,

On Win7 Home Premium - Registering first gave Not Responding error 2x then Server Error error next two time, then finally registered, restarted and all looks fine. Went to their website after seeing posts about it and it's one of the slowest loading sites I've been to. Not sure if it's because the site's creation with this program makes it heavy to read or not but I finally gave up after trying several pages and waiting on each several minutes. Even tried going in to diff links from the site by copying and pasting into new tabs, after closing the previous ones. Site looks nice but too slow to load. I've done hand coding since 1990 and used Dreamweaver (which I love) and InDesign (which is similar to this program) since then. Will give it a try.

Downloaded and registered fine using the instructions in the text document on a Win 7 system.
The program appears to be very functional, good quality and it has tips, explanations, and an user guide included with videos and instructions on how to create pages, visual effects etc. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing constant freezes and crashes, which makes me think that you would have to save your work frequently. Also, some of the English is incorrect, which makes the program look less professional. Improving the graphics and UI would definitely help to make the program better. Also, it would be great if they could make it clearer what type of license you're using, because the Register page still says day 1/29 and offers a registration, even after you registered successfully. (Didn't register successfully for me on the first try - said server error - but it worked on the second try.)
Overall, a good and functional program, with some minor things to improve.

Took about 20 seconds to register, so whatever problems anyone had with that are solved, but when I close and reopen Slicemaker and click on Register under the Help menu, the program still shows a 30 day countdown, so the post from Laurent He, while helpful, doesn't address my situation, since the program clearly did register.

I guess I won't know if Slicemaker actually will time out after 30 days, since I probably won't get around to actually testing it till long after the giveaway is over, which is usually par for the course. It does appear to have some nice js menus, but I was under the impression for some odd reason that this program incorporated html5.

To #22, about Netobjects free software, the upgrade to Fusion XII is technically not free, since you have to pay 9.95 for the cd to be shipped to you, and there is no download option.

I have downloaded, installed, and registered SlicerMaker Deluxe 3.6 with no problems at all. I have done all of this using a Compaq Presario with Windows 8.1 64 bit OS. The process was a little slow, but most downloads, installs, and registration processes are. I have not had a chance to use this interface yet, but it appears to cover all the bases. Anything that it does not cover, I can probably either code myself or just omit that part.

Thank you, I think I am going to really enjoy using this product.

Finally, the program announced it was registered and then restarted itself. However, when I checked to see if it was registered, the program showed that it was still in trialware mode with 29 days left to go of the trial period.

Hmmm...

This is likely the most useful thing ive downloaded on this site in a good long while, and I come here every day. It's not gimmicky, shady in any way I have noticed, and a rep from the company actually came over and explained that any issues signing up are not software or website related and even gave an extension to register. While every day I see most software not even hitting 50% positive I am not impressed or inconvenienced enough to say anything either way but this company and software seems pretty cool and and you guys should give it a chance.
So what if there may be a better one out there, this is GOTD, if you want free software from the AAA+ companies then your not understanding the point of this site and how it functions. It works with up and coming companies. You wont see apple ever on here giving software away because they have the exposure already.

To all,

This is Laurent He from SliceMaker Soft, Inc. I am sorry for any inconveniences caused by us.

Below are sever problems that some GAOTD users have met today:

1) When registering our software with the license key, you may get these 2 error messages: “Please connect Internet to check your identification!” OR " “Server error, please contact us!”---------These 2 problems are caused by the large traffic, please try to register our software later. And, we promise that you can register our software successfully before April 30th, so please don't worry about not registering successfully before the deadline (24 hours later).

2) Some users registered our software successfully but after our software is automatically restarted, you may get the message "Our software is still a trial version."-------This problem is also caused by the server, and please don't worry about that and try to register our software later, too.

At last, please feel free to contact our support team - support@slicemaker,com, if you have problem regarding to our software, thanks GAOTD and all of you guys!

I would suggest that anyone seriously interested in first class web design software should visit http://netobjects.com/html/free-website-design-software.html, where they can download good website design software free. I have just looked at the web page, and it appears that you can also upgrade free to NetObjects Fusion XII, which is fully professional software that I have used to design my own websites. I have since moved on to NetObjects Fusion 2013, but there is not a great deal of difference, and the Help facilities on the 2013 version are in my opinion not yet as good.

If their website loads slowly, I believe it's not their fault. They're offering website building software, not hosting servers.

However, if I were them, I would change their hosting company!

I'm actually using Incomedia Website X5 Evolution, but I'll try SliceMaker to see how it works in comparison.

These are some of the websites I made with Website X5:

If you click on the publisher link and read the previous comments, you'll discover that none of SliceMaker's web site and software issues have been addressed.

Perhaps, an image mapper is what you want. If you don't know what it is, look at this example here. If you're a Firefox fan, there is an extension to help create image maps. An experiment using CSS. Image maps do not require javascript, but depending on the effects it's sometimes better with it enabled.

I suspect the page loading error(s) is not limited to this site on this server. Perhaps GAOTD can contact the author(s) and arrange for re-distribution.

Site building software is in general under developed, despite the crowded field. Many huge companies have failed at its development. I'd like to see/try their up-date.

BETTER and EASIER to use FREE ALTERNATIVES (besides Open Source CMS like Wordpress or Joomla):

Never seen a page so slow to load like those of this publisher website.

Hopefully not all pages created with this software will be as slow as their ones.

Possibly they have a problem just with their hosting...
(and/or thier domain redirection or DNS settings)

Dunno - any other guessing about this problem?

I used this program for a few page, and I use Win 8.1 64-bit, but installed to root (C:\SliceMaker Deluxe folder), and no problem.

This program is best, if you have a high resolution picture, and for create webpage frame. With this program build a page with images, and after this need manually correction on a few moments. Get an HTML, images and CSS. And this is a DELUXE version with many features!

Great program if you build a page from an image (from PS or others). I recomment it!
