I find CPUID PC Wizard to be generally more useful for my purposes. It's better at identifying hardware and device capabilities. For example, regarding my comment #21, PCW correctly identifies the mainboard, and shows DX11 capability in most places. It says that my video card itself supports DX10, which is correct, since DX11 was implemented in the drivers. All such tools have different features and return different results. PCW incorrectly reports virtual memory on my PC. SIW is better at listing power management settings.

#9. You must be talking about Registry Booster. It's just a demo. You'll need to pay a yearly subscription to use the program. I used to use it before it became a yearly subscription. It's a good program; I didn't like the yearly subscription though.

Nice program. Installed nicely on Win 7 Pro. Report has two issues for my machine: it lists the OS as Win 7 Business and that I have only 3 GB RAM instead of 4. It recognizes that all 4 memory slots are filled with 1 GB sticks. Anyone else experience this?

I mostly use Everest Ultimate for this purpose and I don't need another program which does the same thing.

I don't see anything normally worth $70 bucks. There are all kinds of free info utilities. If it reveals all passwords, that's kind of unethical, isn't it? I can see how it would be useful for Admins. It showed my most secure Win/IE passwords, which is kind of scary. Of course, unless you can log in and install this, you're not going to get any passwords. The rest looks about like Everest.

The Regbooster scan seems to be on the GAOTD website! What Gives?

So I've been trying to research OpenCandy more before I install this on any more computers, and I'm not seeing signs it's actually leaving anything behind, on the computer that I specifically saw the request/offer to install additional software-- no DLLs and nothing in the registry.

Is anyone seeing it leaving any signs of itself behind?

Installed easily enough, but each time I opened the program it froze my computer. Was unable to CTRL+ALT+DEL to close down and had to press reset. after four times I gave up and deleted it. A shame as it looked promising.

Great program GOATD! Great help from all the comment,especially Ashraf. I have learned to alwways read each screen during the downlaod process instead of just clicking to intsall. Absolutely skip the Uniblue!!!What a nightmare and a pain to remove (installed it once to check it out- what a mistake). SIW has so much to offer.

Holy cow! The Swiss Army knife of system info software! One thing I like is it shows the temps of my dual ATI video cards, whereas the catalyst software only shows one GPU. Appears more comprehensive than Sandra, though could be overkill for the average user. To the person who said it reported Directx9 even though they have 11, I get the same info and suspect it's reporting the earliest version one has. Thanks GAOTD.

I've been using the freeware version of this program for years, it was recommended on a techy board I belong to, along with malware bytes.. It's simple to use and gives me just the information I'm looking for without being bundled with fifteen badjillion other things. Easy to use, easy on resources and accurate. This one is a keeper, glad I could get the paid version to try out. I want to see what the main differences are between the paid and free versions. Two thumbs up on this one GAOD.

This program got so many positives, I had to try it on.

I just started playing with it, and I seem to be having a problem.
Working from the top down, just to see what kind of computer I have, i stopped at "security.
The result was:
- Windows firewall, turned off. (Thats OK, I do not use Windows firewall)
- Panda Internet Security, firewall, no status. But it tells me I am running Panda IS 2008, but I am actually running Panda IS 2010. And it IS active!
- Panda antivirus (2008) is listed as inactive, but I AM running the 2010 version, and it is indeed active
- Panda antivirus (2008) is listed as inactive in anti-spyware, but again, I run 2010, and it should be listed as active.
- Spybot is listed as inactive, which is correct
- Lavasoft Ad Watch is listed as inactive, which is wrong, it IS active.

I will not uninstall this app right now, but I feel a little bit insecure, I would classify the listings above as FAULTY, and do not know how much I can trust the rest of the application. The whole idea is for the program to tell ME what I have on my computer, not the other way around.

Oh well, too late for me. I have to go. Won't be able to try again. Too bad because this was first software in awhile I wanted to try.

The OpenCandy company was founded by the same guys that gave us the wonderful adware/spyware that once came bundled with DivX.

What is the Uniblue thing everyone is mentioning? I've installed this on 2 computers, one didn't recommend any sort of additional software (XP SP3), but the other computer (Win 7 64-bit) asked if I wanted to install the Bing! toolbar, which I declined. Is that where Uniblue is being recommended?

Installed on my win XP system without issue except: constantly contacting a remote IP during install, why was this?

Interesting stuff found when using:

I have firefox remember a lot of passwords and this found and showed none of them - good.

I have chrome installed and this program found and showed every password I had saved in chrome BAD BAD BAD on you google.

Conclusion - any other spyware program installed on my machine could read and steal these from chrome. This probably won't happen but it COULD if things went bad. Glad I discovered this.

Example - godaddy login/password is in plain view, I have over 100 domains with godaddy and some of them are pretty valuable. Due to chrome not being secure these domains could be stolen if my computer became infected with spyware - BAD!

These passwords will all be deleted in chrome and this program will be ran again to see if these can still be read.

This alone was worth the install as I have found what I consider a major potential issue and hopefully will be able to resolve it and sleep better.

I will install this on 3 more of my computers now to check them.

Installs but asks for registration key when I press Activate. No key in read me file. Any advice welcome.

I like SiSoft Sandra Lite, been using it for years without incident.

I found the answer to my own problem. To make it standalone, go to siw_init.xml in the installed folder and using notepad,edit the "no" to "yes" You can delete the start menu folder.

About "Uniblue" that comes with SIW, if you don't want it, just unmark the specific box during installation process and it wouldn't install.
It is as simple as that.
I've been using AIDA since long, but since today I've switched to SIW since it offers a lot more of specific tuning as well as much more detailed information.
Against the complaining of some folks here, I don't get any false information as #21 claim. I could match the output information against the one I get from AIDA and it fits. As well, as far as I definitely know some data it as well match with the data information output of SIW. So I can't see any problems at all. And: the software indeed seem clean to me (no different notification from my other security items at all). So, once more, I personally could and would recommend SIW without hesitation.

So 50 people manage to bypass the Uniblue Scamware, while 5 get hurt with scareware messages and weird billings and this and not .. NOT WORTH IT !

Integrity companies do not partner with Shamware, scamware and scareware companies.

Re this GOTD: it's from a developer of longstanding repute and the freeware version is as good as any of the other analysers out there. . .

. . .With the caveat that none are definitive: I've run Belarc, Everest, SiSoft and SIW Free and not one of 'em can agree on just how many software licenses this computer actually holds. Sandra can't even get the correct OS version on this machine (seems unaware of the correct SP number) whilst Belarc's record of security fixes is way, way more accurate than Everest's.

Ignore any scare stories about Kaspersky's false positives: today's GOTD is well worth DLing -- from a quick appraisal of its features, it seems to me the developer has actually under-sold, rather than over-stated, the difference between the free and commercial versions.

When I saw this version of SIW on GOTD, I installed it. It does give lots of information but I wonder about its accuracy. It misses a whole lot. For instance it shows only 9 software licenses on my system out of the, uh, well, suffice it to say many, many more than 9 licenses I've purchased. Also, the list of programs and file extensions is sadly incomplete. So, I can only say: Ho-hum.

I was unable to install.

When I ran setup it said.

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Installed with no problems - Vista 32 bit. Saved a report as a CSV file but when trying to save as HTML, programs always stops responding when the operation is about 50% complete.

I had the same problem: WinRAR: Diagnostic messages---“Unexpected end of archive”. I also tried 3 downloads and problem remained.

The problem was a corrupted download. So I deleted the downloaded zip and then ran 2 cleaners to get rid of ALL temp files (both Internet temp files and system temp files). Then I redownloaded and it installed with no problem.

Next I disabled AVAST! Antivirus for 10 minutes and SIW installed fine!

This is a wonderful utility. I wasn't sure what operating system I was running and after loading this, I was able to see that I am running Windows 3.1. Thanks to this software, I'm realizing that there's a newer version of Windows available to me? I guess this explains why I haven't been able to successfully load StarCraft II.

Personally, I don't understand why this comprehensive facility is not available as standard in the Windows Operating System.
