I almost never come back to post a comment days after installing a program, but I have to warn people about this one.

After installing and using this program for awhile, I have to say, I wish I never installed it. Anytime I click on a folder in the right hand column, it keeps opening up a new window even though the folder options say to "Open each folder in the same window". And now, when I try to use my old Windows Explorer, the same thing happens there. And the annoything with both, is when it opens the folder in a new window, the left side folder tree is missing, making it more difficult to navigate further.

Plus with this program, every time I open a new folder, it always defaults to "icons" when I want "details", even though I set the options to show "details", it always defaults back to "Icons".

If you want to keep your sanity and not mess up the way Windows Explorer works in the event you don't like this program, just stay away from this one.

I like to put folders on my desktop for things that I'm working on. After installing this program, I was unable to open the folders. When I double-clicked on the folder icons I kept getting errors that the shortcut was invalid. These were not shortcuts, but actual folders. I also was no longer able to access Control Panel, Documents, My Computer and pretty much everything on the desktop. I'm still missing some startup items. It looks like I'm going to have to do a system restore back to a point before the installation to undo the mess that this software created on my Vista Home Premium PC. Absolutely, a big thumbs-down!

This program completely screwed up my system. When I saw how it worked and didn't like some of its functions, I removed it, only to find that it had messed up my system in many ways.

My computer is still suffering from putting in this program. I will never try another shell program again, so I guess I learned a lesson.
BTW...when downloading through this program is wouldn't open the file itself, but rather the folder. Windows alone works better.

So my score for this program is MINUS 10...it stinks!!!! PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD IF YOU WANT YOUR SYSTEM TO STAY HEALTHY.

A belated comment: Downloaded about half an hour before offer ended. I"ve used it a couple of times now. Really beats Windows Explorer. Wish I had installed it on more computers, especially for my wife. The tabbed interface is a great feature and immediately useful.

Dreadful
For some reason this thing opens my DVDRW without being asked to every time I reboot.
Got in touch with support - and they were no help
Uninstalled after not much more than 24 hours

I had to vote this one down. At first glance, it looked like a great explorer replacement and I started using it. But after a while, I discovered that it's considerably slower than Windows Explorer and drag-n-drop functionality was broken. I tried to drag some files from WinZip and the mouse cursor showed an 'add' icon correctly but the files didn't go where they were dropped. I have no idea where they actually went. I'll probably find them somewhere strange later. After setting Windows back to the default explorer I noticed that the folder options had been screwed up so I had to reset my Windows preferences all over again.

It was a nice try but it doesn't have enough of the Windows Explorer functionality to be a viable replacement for it.

I tried this programme on all my non critial systems, (4 Vista machines, basic, Biz HP and Ultimate 3 x XPs 1 Win2000 1 x Server 2008) the website does not say it will run on vista, and on all platforms of vista we tried it on it did not run. It does however runs well on XP2 platforms with either SP1 or SP2 or SP3 installed.

Yes it is a RAM hungry programme, and yes it will crash on 2000 even if that is stated in the min requirements on the main website und FAQ.

Yes it has all the bits in from the standard Explorer on the Com32 platform basis, with the add-ons it has within its programme it does show that it is a good programme.

One point I can make it that if you do not read the main site and ensure it’s for your system OS then dont install such programe, as you can read in quite a few posts so far.

So in a nut shell.

If you need a double panel tabbed extension enables shell command interface with a memory function that does require more memory that standard, and you are not running Vista or W2K then this one is for you.

And of course there are others out there on the market, that’s why we have choice.

To the posters who say this programme is better that this one.

Short sharp are sweet.

Get a life ok!

This is about this programme and not about what your mommy bought you from the local freebie bin. If that comment offends you then its true. :):):)

Have a good day

Keep up the good work GOTD.

Regards

#147, Acquizeta, Windows Explorer shouldn't be crashing, particularly on Vista. It's highly likely that a third-party Explorer shell extension is to blame. I recommend using Microsoft Sysinternals AutoRuns.

Well, after playing around with this for half and hour on WindowsXP service pack 3, I'm very impressed. Installed OK, easy on the eye, easy to use, save tabs and different views to what you like. Drag and drop works great. Changing icons is fast and easy and doesn't require a refresh. Things are pretty much instant. Glad I dropped by today. I've been testing out quite a few explorer replacements and this is one of the better ones. I'll be keeping this one and deleting Total Commander. Thanks GOTD.
