I know lot of people who find the software great for it really removes marks of activities and the hard drive is really clean.

You people that don't use one of these or those that just use CCleaner are seriously mistaken in your beliefs. I hate to inform you but CCleaner isn't close to what it's cracked up to be although it is free! I have no use for it at all as it laid waste an XP system on me before.
The problem I see with todays offer is that it's name is misleading. It implies that it's getting rid of some illegal activity thus protecting you from the man. In actually, it's a junk cleaner. IE: cookies, cache. Windows temp. files, temp. registry streams which by the way is completely safe. I used to think that when one deleted a registry key, it might have been damaging something. In actually I thought that until I met the owner of "Privacy Killer (another like software), who taught me the error in my thinking!
In truth, I don't care if you use one or not. I don't have to maintain or care for anybody else's PC's but my own. So make up your own mind as to the usefulness of an app of this type. But I wouldn't knock them until you know more about what your saying. It's obvious to me by todays thumbs up/down voting that most of you have no clue. And I could care less about the voting on any offer either.

If you need this, get a portable drive instead

Every keystroke you ever made can be recovered if J. Edgar Hoover and his boys have a mind to. Neither this program nor any other can stop it. Only thing is who has the time or interest? But if you ever are set up for "special treatment," every web site, every everything is right there to be used against you. Even if some fornography popped up for one second, and you never even saw it, it's there and can be used for whatever authority the gestappo intends.

This was HELL to figure out how to install the first time,
Unzip the download. Run the "Setup" program that is only an auto-extractor. Figure out where your software went. (It did not go to C because I do not HAVE a permanent drive on C) Open the folder. Run the new installer. Find out that the registry key is not real. Load program. Click register; it's a pop-under so get frustrated and close the program; only to find the registration menu.
To much!

Once registration was out of the way; it's interesting.
It really is designed to eliminate "evidence" It has built in auto-pointers for eDonkey/eMule, Torrents, et all.

Thing is; quality programs and frontends already do this "elimination" for you.
Lets take each "setting" one by one.

Despite what others have said, it is possible to manually delete internet history/files/et cetera. For the ones that are doing naughty things, it's probably better to do it by hand; allowing you to wipe files rather than just delete them.

The better torrent programs, K-protocol and e(insert bovine here) overlays all have an option to clear or clear to folder/recycle bin allowing complete wiping and erasure from that point.

MS Office/Applications
So it can parse MRU db files. Great! So can every other quality free and ALL pay file/drive over-wipers. This one fails to pick up more than half the programs on my drive For those on Vista, any of the current Windows 7 betas, and 7rf1 Alpha; this will miss MANY program MRU databases. Simply because they're no longer situated only in "currentuser:appdata:local" and the program folder. They are placed in wherever microsoft decides to put them. Sometimes in Local:roaming, sometimes in System32, or WOW64/sysWOW64, (boot):\temp, or anywhere else on the drive. The ability to scan all folders for MRU dbs is sorely missing here.
Point 2: this does not WIPE MRU dbs; it only empties them.

Messenger histories. I'm sorry, but dumb ass, if you don't want someone to read you message logs/scripts/history, et al, DON'T ENABLE IT. Every major messenger program and overlay has logging turned off by default.

DO NOT DELETE .LOG FILES WITHOUT LOOKING AT THEM FIRST!
post xp many programs use a .log file as an uninstall log.

Don't play with your regestry if you don't know what you're doing. Don't dump ANY data with this program (or any cleaner) after a windows or program update without restarting.

Use your head, if you don't know what it is, leave it alone.

Long rant aside:
This program, in a bubble, ignoring everything else that's out there. 8/10.
It does what it says it will do.

This program in the real world, 4/10.
While this combines the jobs of other programs, it doesn't work half as well as single standalones do. Jack of all trades; MASTER OF NONE! ?

This program for knowledgeable power users 2/10.
Just not enough there, and it misses to much.

Great for a teenager looking at porn sites on a parents computer and talking to their internet boyfriends. Bad for businesses, governments, criminals, hypochondriacs, conspiracy theorists, privacy loons, and just about everyone else.

cc cleaner is the way to go. Much easier to install than this program and it works much better.

Long story short; A long-time personal friend was recently accused of inappropriate behaviour with a 16 y/o. The police came, took statements, confiscated computers, hauled him off to jail and slapped a $250k bond on him. Flash-forward 1 year later. All charges are dropped except... they found 3 small images in the cache that were possibly under-age girls and the prosecution is attempting to hang him for that evidence.

The fact that my friend is queer as a three-dollar-bill doesn't matter. The fact that those images were probably popped-up while visiting gay-porn sites doesn't matter either.

All that matters is that the images *look* under-age and since he can't prove that they are not, he's going to jail for the next 4 years.

Think about that next time you surf those 'questionable' sites or 'accidentally' visit one and pop-ups flash all over your screen.

Oh, and remember - In most states, child molesters can't be within 1500 feet of schools and day-care centers. The law also prohibits them from living within a 500-yard radius of playgrounds and facilities serving children - like libraries, for instance.

Is your home within 1500 feet of a place where children gather? I'll bet it is.

Now the question is: Is this software any good?
The answer is: No. Not if you need real protection.

There are better products on the market that will protect you.
Like what? Truecrypt and Sandboxie, for starters.

So if you're trying to hide a porn habit from your wife, sure, this software will help. But if you're really paranoid and need to hide something that will land you in jail, look somewhere else -- And consider if what you're doing is worth going to jail.

Ever since Returnil was offered here, there are no uses for registry cleaners, junk file finders, cache cleaners, etc. NOTHING compares with Returnil, not even Sandboxie (see newest version of Returnil Personal). It seems like a step backward when GAOTD offers 'system/disk utilities' after offering a bullet-proof vest (Returnil). Many may complain, but Returnil is 100% effective.

Am i the only one who cant get this to work on vista. I have tried multiple installs and nothing. It reports that is running and can be found in task manager but no where else.

Vista home prem: installed & activated but wouldn't open, said it was already running, "click icon in tray". NO icon. Hohum, uninstall.

Actually this isn't a category of app where being well known or allegedly trustworthy has anything to do with much of anything IMHO. There are loads & loads of programs that can erase data from your hard drive -- to securely wipe the entire disk you simply have to do a regular (not quick) format however many times. That part of it is pretty hard to get wrong. Any difference is in the design & usability of the program itself.

#13: You do make some good points, BuBBy, re: Secure Evidence Scrubber isn't going to transform anyone's life -- it reminds me a bit of the Orbit gum commercials... However, using a program like this, or CCleaner can maybe be a bit more helpful to some folks: Using a PC/Laptop for work at home comes to mind, where the legal issues are pretty murky about who can do what, & these systems can be subject to thorough searching, say by an employer or the IRS seeking to prove who did what on the system when. In those cases any on-line trails can be totally irrelevant, or maybe the user had enough sense to use TOR & didn't leave a trail?

Conflicting inaccurate information about this program. IT is like…well they didn’t even try it.

The misinformation from the different people and of course the “usual suspect” make is so hard for those that think they make valid assessments. I know enough to figure out whether I want a program or not. If I have questions, I look over the comments of people that have some knowledge. There are a few including you fubar. In depth comments from you and those that have something positive to offer.

I gave those examples because professional tools should ask their users before setting them up in startup configurations. Enabling or disabling them is a separate permission provided by windows, but from aspect of a professional tool, its user must be fully aware of its any such activities.

Otherwise many trojans/viruses/keyloggers also silently set themselves in startup configurations.

There's a pretty big difference between deleting a file & erasing it, like Secure Evidence Scrubber does. Deleting a file removes it from the table of contents on your hard drive -- erasing it over-writes your hard drive where the file was stored. Unless a file is over-written, it's fairly easy to get it back -- that's what all those undelete programs do. So, when it comes to privacy there's a very real difference between using something like Secure Evidence Scrubber & having your browser clean it's cache.

Whether Secure Evidence Scrubber fairs better/worse compared to alternatives like CCleaner is up to you and your individual preference on how the program windows are laid out, ease of use etc... frankly if you use the DOD 7 pass wipe, can't imagine as far as results go, that it makes a whole lot of difference which program you used to perform the wipes.

System: AMD Athlon 64X2 4000~4 Gig RAM~Seagate 1TB HDD~Windows XP SP3: You know what? I like this program. It downloaded and registered easily. This program isn't bad, but I think I'll stay with Ccleaner. Besides none of these programs work completely perfect if you have a program like GoBack on your computer which puts a lot of stuff back from its restore points. There will be traces in these restore points.

Would be nice to have an option to disable keeping a log of actions.

Just a rip off of CCleaner.

Many of these computer cleaners with names like "evidence eliminator" or "evidence scrubber" et al, tend to use scare techniques like the description given by the makers of this particular product, with the aim of SCARING you into handing over your hard-earned cash to hide stuff which "They" aren't looking for/at anyway! If you dare to visit one pornographic site and leave the "evidence" of it on your harddrive for awhile, you're hardly gonna get your door kicked down in the middle of the night by Big Brother, come to take you away for committing such a sin - GET REAL! If They *are* spying on anyone, it's those who've been TOO careless in their online activities - generally speaking, not Mr or Mrs Average Joe.

I like CC CLEANER. Much better and easier to use and it works on Vista and Windows 7. Someone reported that ATF cleaner was good, but it only works on XP and Windows 2000 but then it has notes about using on vista (tells you something about the program. I say cut the crap and go with CC Cleaner. Its a must and you don't go bust.

Those brotherly affections were put because unlike other authors i do like to hear from my users. I put those affections, not for you to feel sorry for me, but for you to post a real feedback on how to make Secure Evidence Scrubber better and not just write "CCleaner is free" even without testing the product.

Ofcourse it is a false positive.
People visiting this community have already installed this product and if it were a malicious program then they would have posted.
Earlier the exe and the dll files in the program were compressed using UPX, but this gave a lot of false alarm on Virustotal.com so in this new version the files are not packed anymore.

I'm passing today to but not because I, in any way don't think a program of this type is useful. I already own 3 others.
1) Tracks Eraser Pro which isn't claiming Vista ready but does fine on my Vista Ultimate.
2) Privacy Eraser Pro which is Vista compatible & gets the bits the first misses.
3) Total Privacy 5 that I got here last year but no longer use. I prefer the other two.
Regardless of how many folks swear by CCleaner, I don't & won't ever use it again after it trashed a system on me a couple years ago. I won't make the same mistake twice.
A good program of this type will do justice by it's user provided you learn how to use it & set it up. I wouldn't be without mine, ever.
#28, get rid of Comodo! Thats all I can say there. False positives are all to frequent with some anti-virus applications. Besides, if you have to use free, Avira Anti-Vir Personal v9 is recently released & if I had to depend on free, thats exactly what I'd be using if for no other reason then false positives are fewer there. I'd pay heed to that like I'd go through a continual, constant battle with their firewall. I wouldn't! No pun intended.

I can't get it to install right
Run the setup and it installs and then validates it on GAOTD.
Makes it's own Directory. But no icon on desk top.
So, I go to the Directory where it installed and there is another setup.exe file load that and it put icon on desk top but does not registers it.
Tried the install many ways but no luck.
This would be Nice one click way to do the job. Sure windows has it own.

After daily visits to this site and trying almost everything for the last two years, this is a first for me: Trying to install todays software triggers my Comodo antivirus with the following warning:"Backdoor.Win32.Wollf.~T@8726620". A Trojan?

Software installed & registered properly in Windows Vista Home Premium. There are many options and settings that can be used such as auto start-up. I did a test with the registry cleaning and it found 2 main items that I no longer have, i.e. Acrobat Reader 6 and Acrobat Reader 7 (I now use Acrobat Reader 8). I definitely give this software a thumbs up.

After yesterday's brain-dead comments and so-called "reviews" (see my comment near the end), much of today's comments are along the same line, completely missing the functionality of the offering. I think #13, BuBBy's comment, is the most relevant. There are two issues. One is the tone of the marketing hype, the function names, and the descriptions in the Help file. Instead of just characterizing items as normal history items, it describes them as evidence, implying that you're attempting to conceal criminal activity. During normal computer usage, most historical information and logs are useful, and should not be "cleaned". The second issue is the frequently-occurring one of going up against more versatile and complete freeware. As BuBBy noted, CCleaner is conveniently extensible.

Since some people asked about IE8 (released), Microsoft has dropped the useful "Define with Encarta" accelerator. I also had to uninstall and reinstall Flash, which was working fine in the Release Candidate. IE8 (released) appears to have better integration with Windows Search 4, although I noticed that some indexed items aren't showing up. I'm aware of the MHTML iFilter bugs, but this is something else; I'll rebuild my index in case it's corrupted. Google Toolbar 6 beta is supposed to have an option to replace IE8's new tab page, but the option isn't present, and it always uses Google Toolbars's new tab page, which is extremely slow. The Google Quick Search Box may have started as a Mac app, Google has an open-source version for the Mac.

#1, #5 and others who think the browsing method of cleaning history ETC actually works are greatly mistaken. I know this because I work on systems that people have used this method and find at least 300MB to 600MB's of junk still on their systems (One time I found 1.3 GB's). CCleaner isn't all that it's cracked up to be, and no one program does it all unfortunately.

I use (With great success)Advanced System Care, Glary Utilities, Total Privacy 5 and Clean Cache to be sure I'm keeping my system clean (Though I don't use Total Privacy 5 on others systems because of its cost).

Of course "Good" programs don't allow you to recover things you've tossed into the recycle bin and deleted. But then again who throws a diamond ring into the trash, and after trash pick up day expects to find it? One shouldn't be doing things like that anyway.

#15 You examples of "Bad" and "Un-professional" just don't hit the mark. 80% of the programs out there want to run on startup, that's why we disable the stuff in msconfig. When one deletes things from IE or with many other cleanup tools you never see exactly what they're getting rid of so why condem a program for doing the same.

I suggest people give this program a try, and like all other such programs do a system backup first. I just wish some of these self proclaimed wannabe pro reviewers would point out true flaws and not petty dislikes of a given program. I'm giving it a try after backing up my system, then see just how much my other programs find. I mean after all that's the only real way of testing a program like this.

ATF Cleaner is safe as it does not clean any registry keys.

Yeah, I've got to agree with the others - nice try Arzoosoft Solutions, but Ccleaner is definitely the way to go. I trust it 100 percent. I've been using it for a number of years now and have never had a single problem. The lack of an ability to know just what it is you're deleting is just downright scary and a sure recipe for disaster. I'm no techie, but even I can see how potentially dangerous this is. Maybe Arzoosoft can work on these issues and release a safer product. But for now, thanks but no thanks.

I can't speak for this offers effectiveness because I already use two others & have been for years. For that reason alone I'm passing. But, for those of you that don't use any such program, I'd say give this a try. before I go further, let me say that neither of mine are CCleaner or Advanced System Care! I've had headaches from both of those.
When it comes to certain types of software, I just don't use freeware. Free is great sometimes but thats not always the case. History cleaners & security are two that I pay for because I like the best I can get. Theres no more pain in the can then my anti-spy program detecting cookies over & over & even though I use Firefox almost exclusively, it doesn't cleanup after itself the way my cleaners to.
Now you freeware junkies can hammer this comment because I could care less. But, I'd be willing to bet that once you use a good history cleaner thats set up the right way, you'll change your minds. Don't believe it? Try a couple & see for yourselves.

Foxmarks already does that for me.

Downloaded & installed nicely but without running some pretty intensive tests, difficult to know whether or not this prog has 'Securely' deleted and for most of us, secure deletion isn't needed.

Useful on a works computer, i guess, but thanks anyway and thanks to GAOTD for making this available.

Good:
- Easy and smooth installation.
- Easy registration via .key file.
- User friendly and easy to understand Button based menu
- Very informative and defining categories regarding browsers and Internet applications
- Nice:One button cleaup


Bad:
- Dangerous: It doesn't scan and present any reports before doing any cleanup, i.e on clicking "Scrub Now" it will start removing data.
- Un-Professional: A status bar is present behind the window showing Scrub status which half visible and half hidden behind Status window. Looks like the programmer forget to cleanup / give final finishing touch to this application.
- Un-Professional: Tried to add in windows startup without confirmation.

seems like more garbage. in the category of fear mongering throw away tools. these types are free and all over the internet. just search and look to good sites for info on which really work.also your gonna know how cheap this crap is when you search there will be millions of sites offering programs like this trying to scare people to buy these,

After reading the sales pitch on the programs' website - it reminds me of something I'd expect to hear on a late night TV advertorial or a sketch or parody on Saturday Night Live...

SAVE IT ALL BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

Removal of unwanted, obselete data and invalid registry items will enhance the performance of the system.
It will also make your system less prone to crashes and hard drive failures.

SECURE EVIDENCE SCRUBBER DOSENT JUST DELETE FILES IT USES GOVT. CERTIFIED,
FILE WIPE ALGORITHMS TO DESTROY FILES, SO THAT THESE FILES CANNOT BE RECOVERED.

OK - back to reality. The program will not save your Job, Family or even your car. If you do the wrong thing on the internet - there is a audit trail leading to your house or office desk long before you even see the results your downloads or online transgressions. Many employers pass all internet traffic through a central point and there are detailed records (and reports) of internet access - showing what, when and who.

Now you feel like you can save your JOB, PROPERTY, FAMILY, CAR and Dignity.... well if you did something wrong and someone wants to investigate it - wiping your hard drive - or even setting fire to your PC probably won't clear your name.... (isn't that a reassuring feeling?).
