Messenger, no need to go into the lengthy analysis of why some people claim that Astro Gemini's website and software are malware; I suspect that 95% of those claims are malicious, rather than due to ignorance. Astro Gemini has been offering software on GOTD for about as long as GOTD has existed. All high-quality website evaluators and anti-virus/anti-spyware/anti-malware detectors indicate that Astro Gemini's website and software are clean. No one who has claimed a problem has ever posted their logs; I've posted security logs indicating no problems, and anyone can check security websites for Astro Gemini's ratings (one of which I linked in comment #62).

None of these screensavers look good at the resolution I use, which is
1680x1050. Of course, I have a 22" widescreen LCD monitor also. Doesn't mean that the screensaver sucks. Some people can't be happy even with a FREE product! Society has truly gone to HELL.
Oh well..HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY everyone :-)

Yea sorry about that. I did use an office editor I'm trying out, but for some reason when I copied and pasted here it didn't come out the way I typed it. I'll go back and to using MS Office 2003.
Again sorry for the lengthy post, but sometimes some one will come in here and post a monsoon when it’s not even a drizzle. When #13 claimed all the results his web guard gave him I had to play devil’s advocate and check it myself and I got no warning with my 3 security programs, it lead me to believe he was getting false positives and examining the page with a web info reader and saw a few possibilities why he would. I just took the time to break it down to not only him but to some others to reexamine their anti spy programs when a website like GAOTD has used this client in the pass and has given us a few screensavers from them with no problems. If 2000 people downloaded the program and only 5 people come here to complain about a problem with their anti spy program what would you think? Especially when the GAOTD team take every precaution to ensure that giveaways are virus, spyware or malware free.

"Live OneCare didn’t say a thing at it’s highest security settings; since not everyone is complaining I’d say maybe some AV software is too sensitive"

That's certainly a possibility. Another would be that Live OneCare is a piece of crap that provides approximately the same level of malware protection as SimCity.

Ever head of Formatting text? maybe you should learn to use paragraphs, or maybe, just save us some time and skip the useless text and give us the facts.

I saw your post, and thought "omg, this is sopposed to be for comments, not short novels", so take a hint and keep them short and to the point!

#42 BNA Mack
Maybe the word paranoid was a little too strong, but I was only using it in this case and not meaning it to apply to every web site a person might visit. A lot of people have all sorts of security programs yet don’t know how to use them to their full advantage. If I were to go by just on the results of every web page I visit then that would be almost 50% of my web surfing would be in vain to visit. Just sometimes over protection can kill a decent experience. Examining astrogemini.com web page linked above you could see where the security results come from.
Phishing: I suspect 2 results, 1st is a “post method.” Meaning it's a form sitting right there on the page and sure enough it’s the email form on the left bottom for their newsletter.
2nd is a “get method.” Meaning it is most likely hidden in a link that should take you to another page with a form to fill. Sure enough if you click on the download file button it not only pops-up the download box but also redirects your browser to another page to fill out your email for the same newsletter in case you didn’t fill out the 1st posted one. Any form you fill out even when signing into a yahoo mail account if it’s not in your web securities “trusted site list” should warn of security risk.
The spam/adware result could be from having 43 links on its page. The only pop-up on the page is the download file box when clicking on the D/L button. Also notice there are no 3rd party ads to D/L tracking cookies on you.
The virus result most likely comes from a malicious adware code in the D/L file giving you a nag box or to open your browser to upgrade or register the program which in this case should be considered malware, to annoy you to register. An example would be a site like freegamepick.com. The games are free but every time you exit the game your browser opens up and takes you to their home page. Also having a code in a program that would harvest all your other screensavers already on your computer into one list without your consent could give the same warning result.
As far as tracking cookies, what marketing website doesn’t use them? The best defense is to rid them as soon as you close your browser. Some blockers on certain yahoo pages and others won’t even allow you to click any where on their site unless you allow a cookie to be installed.
What has all this got to do with the downloading of this screen saver? Nothing unless your going to download it from astro gemini’s website. Even though they’ve been in business for over 8 years and I’m sure they like repeat sells But you’re not downloading this program from their website, you’re downloading from Wikisend.com via GAOTD To quote a post from Lee a moderator in the Giveaway forum, “The GOTD Team do scan the giveaways prior to making them available, using multiple tools, and take every precaution to ensure that giveaways are virus, spyware or malware free.”
Now has far as your Comodo screaming “System Hook” it’s doing its job like it should. Most likely resulting in a locked hook code written into the program. A Hook is nothing more than a mechanism that will allow it to spy the traffic of messages between Windows and the applications as in a register key menu. What it’s doing is reading your key strokes or mouse pasting to read the info you’re putting into the registration box allowing to change your trial version into your full version, making upgrading easier. From my learning of a “system hook” the hook code is written in the program’s dll file and when you fill in the register code what you fill in unlocks the hook and allows for the version change. If the hook code was written into a php file then the code you typed is sent to a web site which in turn sends another code back to your computer that unlocks the hook code. Either way once the hook code is unlock and gets the ok to the application it becomes dead/dormant. All above could cause false positives depending on the security program you use or how sloppy the codes are written.

Note to #60. My video card which is ATI also freezes and gives me a VPU recover warning with their screensavers recently. I have Windows XP but a Dell computer from 2004. I never noticed this before. But I believe it happened after I used a free registry cleaner. I have gone to ATI and downloaded the lastest drivers, then put the old drivers on and nothing works. I'm about ready to get a new computer so I may wait, but I'm gonna be careful with registry cleaners. I know a lot of people use CCleaner which doesn't cause problems for a free one. And I think the Astro Gemini screensaver are pretty and I actually bought two of them before getting free ones.
