I downloaded and ran first day worked great. The next day it was gone had to find it again. It ran the next day as I found it. the next day it was gone again and when I found it I got an error message. will not run any more as all it gives me is an error message as data base not found. Funny it is right beside the link. Guess this one is a dud. Will look for other detection programs.

Come on now. You think that if there was such a way extract the installer that it would be posted so readily for GAOTD to adapt to? Now im not saying its not possible, on the contrary it certainly is, just very very annoying and time consuming to deal with just to have GAOTD change the method a few days or weeks later.

OTOH, functionally achieving the same result is rather simple... :)
The trade off, however, is that you must execute the GAOTD executable at least once within the time offered and then once it has launched the embedded installer... Well with comments like #78 the technically inclined and enterprising among you, I'm sure, have been using this to archive the giveaway's installer for some time. If you haven't... I'm sure you can poke and figure it out now... ;)

Ahh it's amusing. I'm sure that since this post was made after the end of a giveaway that no one will read this page, much less scroll alll the way to the bottom and this tidbit, like so many others, will be lost to the recesses of the web...

@Roj Bloughmeekokvic #107: Thank you for your comment.

This makes it all clear to me: If wireless is not supported it should have said so in the requirements in the first place. It would have saved me lots of time. OKAY, this software is not compatible for me, clear, I'll leave it at that.

Roj, thanks again really very much indeed.

Normally I wouldn't do this, especially at the end of the give away.
I've spent the last 10 hours kicking this programs head in, and I must say, I am impressed. While I know this give away ends in about 20 minutes I think after being critical in my first comment, this software is worth it. I am a regular here and check it every day. This is probably one of the best software's I have picked up here. In my opinion it ranks up there with Starburn and Edraw max.
Nice job by the developers. Easy to use, easily usuable GUI, automatic policy updates and the ability to effectively monitor a large LAN and catch both wireless and switched interfaces. Nice job. Won't make me give up Snort, BUT, I was able to talk several of my less tech savy friends through the simple installation and configuration. Not something that would be even remotely thinkable with Snort.
Quality choice today GOTD. Very nice.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to monitor network traffic that is neither from nor to your own adapter would require an adapter capable of such a feat, usually referred to as "promiscuous". I'm not sure how many NICs these days are promiscuous, especially considering the vast majority of users here are probably using the NIC that's built into their mainboard.

Something they might have mentioned in the "requirements" section.

Not a bad little program for monitoring traffic on your PC but this is all it does. If you want to block certain people or institutions try Protowall:A light weight NDIS IP filter designed to run independently alongside a personal firewall for the sole purpose of blocking large amounts of IP addresses, where almost all other firewalls cannot. This for the more paranoid surfer that wants to know who is watching and tracking you.

Installed & runs great on XP sp2. No problem or slowness about that at all! As said above, I can't evaluate it real well til I've used it awhile, but after 10 mins it's seeming to record stuff fine.
Like a lot of others, I would very much like to know if this is a 1 year subscription or what. It's ok if is, but wish I knew.

@ #51-Couldn't you just uninstall it? WHY would u want to reinstall your whole system instead??? Seems like WAYYYY overkill to me. And takes a lot more time than uninstalling it. We see it didn't actually make your PC un-useable, so..kinda like killing a fly with a sledgehammer.

And I agree with the others about the thumbs buttons. Wish GOTD would just take it off totally. BUT I NEVER use it, so I kinda cancel out "Mike". :)
