Surely the hijacking of you search engine is wrong and is in some way adware. I like the video download utility, but have found the hijacking software doesnt work properly, and always end up with searches showing no results, and I have to look again in another way. I will uninstall this programme if I cannot disable the hijacking engine. I changed the default home page back easily enough, but cannot find how to disable the intergated bit. If anyone knows, including GAOTD people, please tell us! And tell us in advance if it has this "whatever kind of software" you wanna call it, embedded, as I would not install it if this is the case.

There is one Video (TV episode) that I have been unable to download. Have tried a dozen programs. Was tempted to try this, but got frightened by the changes it does to your system. Which appear to be extremely difficult to remove.
Here is my suggestion for future GOTD downloads (that may be a bit sus) -
Get Seagate Disc Wizard, which is free as long as you have one Seagate/Maxtor drive hanging off your PC (internal or via USB).
It is a piece of cake to use.
Create an image of your partition, prior to installing the software.
If the software messes your system, then just restore your recent image.

Some will say this is overkill.
I don't think so, as you now have a recent image of your partition, that can be used if other bigger disasters befall you.
I have been getting very lazy about doing my images, so it will give me a kick in the pants as well.
The kick in my pants was too late to download today's.
However out of curiosity I will go to their web site, and download their trial version, to see if it can download my 'impossible to download video'.

PS In the past, I have found the imaging to be reliable, PROVIDED that you do not try to move/copy your images. Just restore it, the way you created it.

Seriously need any suggestions on removing the toolbar as explained in my previous submission. Could farther@#17 kindly detail to me how, because I do not want to uninstall Firefox.I had initially posted that I uninstalled with Revo at advanced mode but the toolbar still remains after reboot. This thing is messing up my browsing and the tabs keep reverting automatically to their site.
Thanx.

Why mess with this crap??? DownloadHelper and FlashGot are FREE Firefox plugins that DO work!! FlashGot (to me) seems a bit more versitile, works under IE too, and is not browser dependent - you can close your browser and it continues your downloads. I prefer DownloadHelper for quick 'yes-I-want-to-save-it' kinds of grabs.
I'm a bit suspicious too about junkware that installs stuff behind my back (what *else* is it installing?) and takes over; had a printer once whose drivers did that, POS went back next day!
Comment about no 'visible means of support' website (so to speak) is right on. I've used a few great programs from sites like that over the years, but most never followup to the next incarnation of Windblows.
As for GOTD. I've only been on it for a week or so now, & I don't trust it. Same goes for Software Informer (which leads into GOTD).

There are LOTS of extremely talented developers out there who only lack support and notoriety. Too bad this appears not to be one.

Downloaded and installed ok but it seems to work only with IE8 but not Mozilla.

That said, could someone explain why the toolbar refuses to uninstall even after reboot. I used Revo Uninstaller at moderate mode then rebooted but I still have the toolbar which is still hijacking my home page. I would appreciate a method that doesn't involve direct deep registry editing.

Lastly, I would like to add my 2 cents to the comments by JonB @ #34"Dont vote negative on comments asking questions! It’s just rude. Comments are about Learning as much as they are about teaching." Some of the issues/queries raised come from diverse experiences with the apps from GAOTD and from individuals with varying levels of knowledge/expertise on the particular app given. Voting negative tends to mislead the casual observer who is then mislead into not appreciating the particular query which might affect the same user in future usage of the same app after the GAOTD comments have expired.
Thanx again.

If you don't know how to register, fire up Firefox or Internet Explorer and click on the Settings button on the Google Custom Search bar, then click Register.

I don't really like this program. It likes to hijack my IE home page (stupid) and hide my regular Google Toolbar (highly annoying). Coupled with this is a highly unintuitive interface, and I just hate how this program is turning out. If I want to download videos, I'll just click on the quick, unobtrusive icon of FlashGot, and away I download.

The hijacking of IE's search page and the annoying toolbar both noted by Ashraf makes today's offering a no-go for myself as well.

The "WinPCap" portion of the install is a packet capture systems-analysis tool. It is capable of monitoring/capturing *all* of a system's communications for later analysis.

Given the poor example this firm sets by hijacking the browser settings, I for one do not trust this firm to stop with just grabbing the video with this utility. (For that use, WinPCap is severe overkill - it's like using a 20-pound sledgehammer to swat a fly)

I had the AnvirTask manager which was a GOTD on my computer too, but it seems to give problems sometimes. I don’t know if your problems have to do with it. One of the problems I had with my computer, is that Safari (windows version) doesn’t close properly. (It remains active in some way or another and has to be closed using the Windows Task Manager window to end it fully.) Also in Lotus WordPro did problems occur. I haven’t yet uninstalled the AnvirTask manager but before using Safari or Lotus WordPro I close it.

Personally I just use Video DownloadHelper add-on for Firefox. I have never been very impressed with 3rd party video downloading software I have tried. Video DownloadHelper may save it as a .flv file, but VLC will play those without a problem and I have yet to find a site it doesn't preform well on.

I agree with Lee Daniels. Ashraf could write the official reviews of this site. But the fact that it didn't work at all with him, while other poeple said it did, confuses me. Ashraf, if you wouldn't mind, could you Re-Review this product? Not that I'm going to download it. I have all the toolbars I need (the standard IE8 one).

Be careful of the Google-Feed.net toolbar/IE Add-on. It is NOT affiliated with Google. Check out this site below for info about Google-Feed.net. It says the keywords are "get money, make money, money making"...definitely not from Google. SaveTubeVideo.com was registered Sept. 3, 2009, so it's not a program that's been around for a long time.

http://whois.domaintools.com/google-feed.net

Interestingly, though, is that the Admin and Technical Contact for Google-Feed.net is Artem Berman, and his e-mail address is "info@rocketdivision.com". He is also the Admin Contact for Rocketdivision.com, makers of the quality StarBurn products that we've downloaded here before.

Strange that a maker of a quality product like Starburn (which I use a lot and is a great program) would put out a program with such blatant spyware like google-feed.net and the other changes to your system when you install SaveTubeVideo.

Steer clear of this one.

As I see it,
This is another giveaway that has an *install_script.iss* that tells [it's own installer] to silently and automatically hijack your browser....
This is not something that GOTD has added, as the vendor's installer has it as well.
I installed SaveTubeVideo 3.0 via manual setup and did all the hijack opt outs, it still hijacked IE 8. I really don't like this trend...I suspect I will be moderated out again....

Why bother with this type of software when it's so easy anyway.

Using FireFox, FlashGot extension or Video DownloadHelper extension will capture the address and download the video.

For all browsers, copy the address of the YouTube video from the YouTube addressbar.
Go to Savevid.com and paste the address in the URL box on the page, then click Download on the right.
Wait a few seconds then click the FLV or MP4 download button that has appeared underneath.

I have tried numerous progs to download videos. Some websites make it quite tough to download their videos. The one program which works for me is : Jaksta Streaming Media Recorder and Converter.

And for recording audio: Wondershare Streaming Audio Recorder.

I have no relationship with any of these vendors.

I dont have time to mess with fixing this ..the product is gone and I dont tolerate programs that even when I choose to do a custom install they install the items you choose not to install.
One crappy program if you ask me

To #5,7 & 8 This little program actually intergrates itself into your IE8 or Firefox Browser. It unfortunately does not have a seperate desktop icon, and the software is registered after clicking onto the icon in/on your browser. So look up to the top of your screen you might see a new bar. Other than that it really bothers me that my browser is forced to Google, so I guess I'll keep Cool Utube that I downloaded a few days ago. I find the extra taskbar makes my viewable screen even smaller, so I'll be uninstalling.

trying the app right now with 2 videos from video.google.com.

first one 72 Mb and second (running now) 195 Mb .

Well I thought that this app of course can get several videos simultaniously.

but is that true ? I´m waiting and searching for answers.
I tried to look at their website and it just look like they are selling candy.
maybe the app are made for youngsters and not adoults like me ( 54 years old )
the very bad thing with this app is :

1 it is nearly impossible to get rellevant information about what
this app can (and does !)

2 how can you see if app is running ??
is it nearly finished or what ?

I´m still waiting .
but what I can see is that my xp has a temp app running fla537.tmp and this is the biggist videofile.

so this what I´m going to do : load VideoCacheView.exe for Nirsoft

you can get it here, absolutely free but not so smart :

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Download-Managers/VideoCacheView.shtml

now I can get the biggist file for sure.

if anyone knows how to observe this app running I would be glad to hear

Be very careful with this download because it does things without asking. Not that they are all bad but they should at least give the option of having or not having the changes.

I also had to spend time putting my settings back after uninstalling this program.

There are too many good programs that are free or for pay.

This was here before and it was absolutely bad then.

Well it's kinda fun installing today's application.
Apart from not being able to not install the google-feeds toolbar, even with the custom installation, I needed to get rid of installhelper in order to be able to launch IE8.
To get it registered in Firefox it needs to be registered in IE first,but... on reboot it became unregistered in FF again.
So maybe the FF plugin needs rebuilding...
:)
Apart from all this this program works great, even in the unregistered version with no burning facilities.

I have a Vista Home Premium x64 OS computer system.

I had installation problems - received and executable error message during installation - so tried to install as Admin, and still received same error message.

Despite these problems, program finally did install - it didn't show up in my IE8 browser. It showed up only in my Firefox (FF) Browser, but it crashed FF.

Also, the program initially appeared as "registered", but then reverted to "unregistered" status when computer was re-booted.

There is no company contact information listed on the developer's website (savetubevideo.com) - dubious, to say the least.

The free program listed on the developer's website (savetubevideo.com) is a crippled version of the program. The "burning function" is disabled.

In summary, the SaveTubeVideo company and program are both bad news, and I uninstalled the program.

Well, am uninstalling. After checking thoroughly, I can't see anything associated with this on my browser anywhere, & when I go to a YouTube video, nothing pops up, so I can't access it. I am quessing that the maker wanted us to try it on various PCs to see if it worked for us all. Which is fine. :) Try changing it again, Sam. :) Will be glad to try it again, if/when changed/fixed. At least it didn't crash my PC. If there's a next time, I'll run Returnil before trying it. :) (PS-I obviously can't use the reg codes since I can't access it.)

Firstly, I see my previous posting was deleted, don't know why, but here goes for my thoughts on this...
I downloaded this version and the freeware version to do a side-by-side comparison.
I decided to install the free version from their site first. Bad mistake!
First of all, when opening the program to install, a message came up:
"Close all open instances of IE or it will be done forcibly", then, without warning, all of my IE browsers closed all at once, not giving me a choice to close them on my own or to cancel out of the install at that point.
Secondly, a different program called "WinPcap 4.0.2" started to install. I figured it had something to do with adding the SaveTubeVideo so I unchecked the install toolbar thing as I never allow toolbars. My AnvirTask manager automatically warned me of 2 programs trying to access the internet. I again thought it had something to do with the installation of the SaveTubeVideo program and disallowed them access as it stated "Toolbar".
As soon as that all was done under the WinPcap program then the actual SaveTubeVideo program began to install!, afer that, all heck broke loose and IE was opened, tried restoring my last session of which the WinPcap had closed on me, then an error popped up:

"InstallHelper.exe - Application error: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application"

I didn't click to close right away as I noticed a Google toolbar had been added to my IE and in the search box was: www.google-feed.net

After noticing all of that I clicked on the OK button to close the error and... Nothing! the error kept repeating it's self, my cpu usage went to 100% and stayed there. After about 10 minutes of trying to access windows task manager and even it wouldn't open, I had to manually turn off my computer, enter safe mode, then uninstall not only the SaveTubeVideo, but the WinPcap, Google toolbar, and Yahoo toolbar as well! Those were all added from trying to install the SaveTubeVideo from their site.

After all that fiasco, I will not try installing the newer version given away here today.

The site actually downloads this version, 3 not the 1.0.5.
I hate the sneaky backdoor tactics of this company. A toolbar not requested. A change in search provider even when unticked in install. Very bad. Stay clear.. What else will they do to your system!

The product confuses me. The website doesn't mention this version 3.0 at all, or even a v2.0 for that matter. The website also says that SaveTubeVideo is a free product, but here it's listed as $7.95.
Registering adds burning functionality; if you try to burn a disc with an unregistered copy, it redirects you to http://www.savetubevideo.com/buy.html, but that automatically redirects you to the homepage, with no option to buy a licence. As far as I can tell, we're being given a product that can't be purchased elsewhere.

All that aside, it seems to be a good example of a video downloader. it was able to handle videos from a number of sites I visit, all of which were too tough for other video downloaders I've tried.
It's damn shady, but it works, so it gets a thumbs up from me.

According to the website......
Is the program free?
Save Tube Video is an absolutely free streaming video downloading tool, it can be used and redistributed at no cost. Forget about trials or demos – Save Tube Video is your free live video downloader.
This raises a few questions.

Also Unfortunately it does not work with Firefox x64 (Minefield)i will just have to keep using the download helper addon

To the person that left the comment in the suggestion area...
If you go to their site and click on the 'About' tab and read there, you will find the version number of this download, and the version number of the one on their site is very different, and this is copied from that page at their website:

About SaveTubeVideo
New version 1.0.5 of Savetube is available now! If you are a fun of online videos such as YouTube, Redtube, Metacafe, Dailymotion etc. and your browser is either any version of Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, this version of the program is for you. Our downloader is free of charge, but we also propose advanced version of Savetubevideo, which is great opportunity to receive 2 programs in one user-friendly interface: downloading and burning of your favorite videos and all these is for 7.95USD only!

Notice the one at their site, the free one, is 1.0.5 and today's giveaway is version 3.0, therefore it is safe to say this is probably their more advanced version of which they stated at their site would be purchasable for the $7.95.

I am downloading both versions and testing them as I write this and will leave a comparison of the 2 later today.

The savetubevideo.com claims the program is free.

From the site-

"Is the program free?

Save Tube Video is an absolutely free streaming video downloading tool, it can be used and redistributed at no cost. Forget about trials or demos – Save Tube Video is your free live video downloader."

That was for version 1.06. I guess the program jumped from 1.06 to version 3 in 2 1/2 weeks?

The Good
* Pretty much point and click in terms of user friendliness.
* Built right into browser making it convenient to download videos at a click of a button.
* Can burn videos after they download.
* Gives popup notice when a "downloadable" video is detected.
* Can download videos as FLV or AVI.
* Users can download multiple videos at a time.

The Bad
* "Redevelopment" of "link recognition algorithm" (uses WinPCap now) killed the program - it no longer detects any videos from any website.
* Browser dependent - only works with Internet Explorer and Firefox.
* Need to keep the (annoying) toolbar - no way to isolate just the necessary buttons.
* If you have Internet Explorer 8.0:
o Save Tube Video tries to change your default search engine to Google-Feed.net every time you open IE8, regardless of if you selected not to make Google-Feed.net during installation.
o Every time you open a new tab in IE8, the mouse/typing cursor is automatically put in the custom Google search box in Save Tube Video's toolbar.
