Doris, Download the file, unzip it, look in the readme file for instructions. In Win7 or Vista, you probably need to run the setup file as an administrator.
Good luck!

I'm late to the party so I doubt anyone will read this comment, but it seems like a great little program that doesn't make me paranoid by trying to connect to the Internet while in use. Intuitive and has some nice features like an easy copy of existing tasks so they can be quickly edited. For example, if you set up a reminder for the third thursday of every month, you can copy it and change to the fourth thursday so you're reminded at both times. A right-click on the system tray icon will allow you to quickly add new reminders too.

I'm not certain if the program needs to be active at all times in order to get reminders (I assume yes, but it would be nice to know.) It seems to use about 11-12MB memory while running in the background, which is reasonable.

Thanks GOTD and Abaiko Software.

Ok. I also do not enjoy reading post by users who ask questions that only apply to their situation and do not add anything for the general good, but..... I have downloaded and try to install this program over and over. Win7 (64); Comodo turned off; extracted; setup and then activate; activate then setup; with and without administrator run option; activate only; setup only. Downloaded 4 times, same thing. I get an error message when I try to run that says the "exe" file is not there and when I check the x86program folder, the "exe" file is not there (plenty of other parts of the program, but no "exe" file). I really tried to work this out before asking here, but if I have to be voted down for asking, maybe someone has had this problem and knows the answer. To that reader, I thank you in advance for your help.

Hi everyone,

Seems to be a new way of installing GOTD programs (the .gcd ?).
I'm personally not familiar with it, and don't know computers well enough to understand #25/GOTD's explanation of how to install it.

Is someone in the GOTD community able to help me - and I'm sure many others of us out there who are asking the same Q - and possibly explain in a clearer way how to install the .gcd for us newbies to it.

Thanks in advance :).. and thanks to GOTD all the GOTD contributors, including Giovanni - you rock dude! Thanks for the time & effort you generously give to us with what you contribute. Cheers Brother :)

This is a nice, simple little program that I believe will do what I need it to do, and do it well. Thank you, GAOTD and Abaiko Software.

I was a little confused when it came to activating the program, because when you click on Activate.exe it almost looks like it's trying to install the program all over again. But if you just click on RUN in that window, it activates it with no problem.

Thank you again.

I use my own Short date format of: yyyy-MM-dd ddd

Try it - you'll like it!

Of course, you can also use dd-MM-yyyy ddd
or MM-dd-yyyy ddd if you prefer.

However, this software crashes immediately with my setting. Only when I revert to standard date settings (as set by Microsoft) does it not crash.

I consider this a design fault in that it is expecting specific formats rather than accommodating customizations.

I hope the developers read this.

I think I now see the reason behind the system reboot -- it also installs something called "AC3Filter". Not a bad thing, but why? To have sounds in the program? Isn't there another way than sneaking in another program? ;)

I am a fan of a very good but old program called Peter's Alarm Clock (free to try, buy to keep), but I gave Reminder Commander a try.

My first complaint is having to reboot the computer to install. Only a very few programs I have installed in the last 5 years have required that, with the exception of Windows updates which require manipulation of the OS. Which makes me wonder just what this program did to the registry. Second complaint - on wanting to change the default directory of the database and backup folders, I had to create them OUTSIDE the program. I haven't seen that problem in a program for probably a decade.

So far in testing, the program is a good one and as the complaints above are over with, I will keep using to see how the rest of it goes.
Thanks, GAOTD and Abaiko Software.

BTW... Thank you GOTD team, as well as the many hard working developers who spend long hours and make their products available free of charge. It is appreciated by the majority of the users of this site. Even if it is not a program I have a use for, I still appreciate your efforts and hard work, unlike some on here.

Deen Reed, If you have so many other things to do that you need a free reminder program to tell you about them, why are you wasting time and bandwidth on here? If you do not like this site, STAT THE HELL OFF. This site is designed to legally give software to people for free that they would normally pay for. Not for some wanker to come and defeat the entire purpose and say get a free version here or there. Are you honestly that much of a recluse that you can not find anything else to do with your time? Software developers are doing the general public a favor by offering their wares free for the public to try and use, and like always some idiot gets upset. I have a quote that fits you perfectly. It is from one of your American Presidents. Please, take it in to consideration.

Hello Everyone: This is my very first time on this forum. I have visited this site on many occasions and I cannot find it in me to complain about any of the software being offered here for free. If a particular software is made available which would be of no use to me, then rather than criticize on the software itself, or on the price then I simply move on. In any case I do like today's offer of Reminder Commander very much but I have tried now at least a dozen times to get it activated and I cannot seem to be able to achieve this menial task. If someone would be kind enough to give me step by step instructions on how to make this happen, I would be most grateful. I would also like to thank GAOTD and all the participating software companies for giving us the opportunity to install their products at no cost to us. Have a great day everyone....Doris

#1, #7, #20 and anyone who has not yet completed the installation: just uncheck the "launch Reminder Commander" box BEFORE clicking Finish and then when you run Activate.exe it will do its job without having to go through the procedure of closing it from the System Tray icon (I did not have an actual Taskbar icon to used as it was only in background.). Also, if it matters, I am running 64-bit Win 7 on AMD multi-core CPU.

Seems like it should be a nice program, but unusable on a netbook with a shallow (1024 x 600) display. Can't resize windows to this display, so can never see what the buttons are at the bottom of the window to add new events. Major problem!

Dear users,

to correctly activate today's program please make sure to:

- extract all files from the package into a separate folder (the main thing here is to place both Activate.exe and Activate.gcd in one directory);
- run Activate.exe only (depending on OS you might need to launch it under administrator's account to apply changes);
- re-start Reminder Commander. Please note that when you close the program it might still be running in the background. To exit the application right click on the icon in Windows Taskbar and choose "Exit".

We hope it will be of help.

#12, Garry H., leave your sound loop request in the developer feedback box. You might consider buying a license while the discount is available, that also gives you some customer leverage. VueMinder, apparently even the free version, will do what you want. The Pro and higher versions give you more options, such as calling you with a voice message. It's not that complex, some features are missing. I haven't learned all of the features yet, I just use what I need. Typically, for medications you would just right-click the tray icon, select New, Recurring Event. If you need to take the medication multiple times per day, just setup a recurring event for each time of day, since daily is the smallest duration. Under Action, select Show a Popup Reminder, and under Content, you should be able to select Play media an unlimited number of times. You don't have to worry about features which you aren't using.

This GAOTD is a very smart and extremely flexible and easy to use reminder tool, designed to remind you about important events in advance telling you exactly when an event is due.

It can even track any possible missed reminder of yours, enabling you to set an alternative specified time to that of a certain event.

So overall, for what it does and for the pretty much advanced features it can provide, I give it a THUMBS UP!!

Does this means I would pay 25 bucks for a software like this?

Of course not...LOL!!

Thanks to Abaiko Software + GOTD.
It is good. How do I know? I have been trying out various "reminder" programs recently. This has recurring events capability - something which is missing from Efficient Reminder Free version.

You can create or choose a specific folder to keep your reminder database.

You can choose whether to remind beforehand by a specific margin of time or at the due date/time.

You can choose your own sound.

The program seems useful but as others have said, it faces stiff competition from many other free programs. The $24.95 is entirely too much for this limited utility program. Plus, the windows need a makeover - something like transparency/aero to give them an updated look. For reminders check out the free Hott Notes. They are pop up sticky note reminders with alarms plus the notes can be used as stickies on the desktop for any type of info or reminders. And they use checkboxes to check off subtasks. Multi-use, trendy colors and free http://www.hottnotes.com/ worth a look.

This is ALMOST exactly what I've been looking for. I've tried 6-8 such reminder programs over the last year and not one is as nice and uncomplicated as this one. Been using VueMinder which is okay but it is needlessly complex. Reminder Commander is intuitive and very nice. BUT, I cannot use it in its current incarnation because I cannot see a way to loop the alarm (that is, the sound). Often I am not sitting at the PC, but rather I am in the next room or I am reading a book with the PC on, but monitor turned off. If I need to take a medication at a certain time then I need an alarm based on a sound loop.

Nice Reminder Program.
Simple and neat

My Suggestion :
Add more Skin (The icon was just too plain i think Xp, just my taste}
Add count down timer for the next event.
Add button to restore the view of GUI into the default state.

I've been using TaskPlus (currently using freeware version 3.7.1) for years, 4.2 MB folder size, seems to have many of the features of RC4. Doesn't have the e-mail or advance reminder stuff, but I don't need the former and the latter is a matter of setting the time in the first place and using the "Repeat" function with a chosen time interval. Doesn't have the "rewrite the time when editing a reminder" problem.
However, it's no longer offered on the company's website so it may be hard to find.

Amanda_W, don't forget, save 50% off your order with coupon code GOTDRC50. Available for any license type, also applies to most of Abaiko's other products. But as Deen Read points out, there's also other free and commercial products. VueMinder does much more than just act as a reminder, and there is a free version. The Pro version is closer to the Home license of Reminder Commander and costs the same, but does much more, and offers synchronization abilities. There's still the 50% discount on Reminder Commander, but VueMinder offers a competitive and other discounts. So as usual, it's what you like and what you're willing to pay.

I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to working out how software works, so I freaked out when I couldn't find a User Guide. I have to say, however, that Reminder Commander 4 is very easy and straightforward (intuitive and user-friendly are the words, I think).

Thanks #4 (GOTD team) for the tip about how to know that my copy is registered. I found that I had to right-click on the icon in the system tray and click "Exit" to shut the program down completely. When I started it up again the "Buy Now" button had disappeared.

Downloaded/installed fine on Vista 64-bit.

Nice little program, I've been looking for something just like this.

The first thing some might think is that Windows already has its own reminder in the Task Scheduler. I've been using Windows' popup reminder system for little things but its time seems to be off because daily reminders don't pop up at the right time (if at all, and monthly ones I don't really track closely). Also, the interface for the Task Scheduler isn't as easy to use as it could be.

Things, in no particular order:

This Reminder Commander 4 is very easy to use "out of the box", everything is clear and straightforward. The GUI is simple, clean and easy to navigate.

Something this has that Task Scheduler does not have is the "remind later", which I like. It can be reset for a few minutes, or days, weeks, or months. A tone at the time of the event is also helpful.

I'd like to see the popup reminder unlocked from a corner, an option to have it pop up in the middle of the screen. Currently, the only options are in one of the corners of the screen for the initial reminder. Once it pops up, you can choose to change it to a window, but if postponed, it comes back up in the corner. Not a huge deal since the reminder view thing doesn't go away until dismissed or postponed.

Reminders are easily edited/deleted with a right-click menu. One problem for me is that, when editing a reminder, the time for it reverts to the current time instead of staying at the time originally chosen. When I went to edit a comment, I also had to remember to change the time back to what I wanted.

Reminders in the history can be reactivated. Would like to see a Clear All button for the history, instead of right-clicking a reminder and choosing "delete all".

Needs a better Help page, or rather needs info in the Help page because there are no instructions for use. Again, it's really simple to use and maybe most people won't need help, but it should be fairly easy to throw in a few instructions.

The Options seems pretty thorough and useful, had everything I think I need and some things I didn't know I needed but are good to have. The only option I don't know about is one called "backup" where it apparently makes 24 copies of the backup every hour by default. I'll have to wait to see what goes into the backup file...

Looks like you can set it to open a file at a certain time in advanced settings for a reminder. I have no need for that, but there you go. It can also be set to send an email, which is cool.

When creating a reminder ("add new"), I would suggest the layout be rearranged slightly to put the Reminder Type (daily, weekly, etc) in a position where it's the first thing changed. Currently, the most prominent thing on the setup window is the place to change the date/time for the event, with a drop down menu to change the Reminder Type. If you've already set the date/time for a reminder, then change the type to something besides Daily (the default), you have to change the time/date again.

It keeps an icon in the taskbar, which I don't know if I like. Once I've set all the reminders I want, I don't really need to be so accessible. Maybe other do. I want an option to turn off the minimize to taskbar. If there is one, I missed it.

It was easy to get setup with some "pay bills" reminders to start. Tried a test reminder to come in after a minute. Setting a once daily and once monthly and a reminder to pop up every day for a week each month were all quick and simple. I don't see having any trouble creating birthday reminders, or similar "once" events.

It would be cool to be able to change the color of the window from the standard "Windows blue". Not necessary, just a little flair.

Overall, really nice program. Can easily give it 9/10. $25 seems a little pricey, but I don't have anything to compare it with, so won't comment much on the price ;)
