my problem is I standardized on the email client in Forte Agent so long ago, my only real desire to have somebody point out a client that can suck the junk folder of my isp’s bloody email, all at once. pop3, imap, whatever.

The problem is that this program isn’t “FREE” – it’s $29.95. This is the PAID version. When is it remotely acceptable to have nag screens on something that has been paid for? If you paid for it, and you got nag screens on closing, would you like it? It doesn’t matter that they can be turned off – they’re on by default.

Hardly trivial, in my opinion. Besides, it has fewer features than freeware alternatives.

Wrong. If you don’t like it, say so – that way, others can leave it. People shouldn’t have to download something to find its flaws – they should be able to skim the comments for that.

You don’t “have to look at ads from the developer to recieve a handy program for free”. You get it for free because it’s on the site. You aren’t making the distinction between decent adware and bad shareware. Besides, Thunderbird gets by without ads for FireFox!

Whatever do you mean by that? Do you think that the site will close down because some developer offered bad sofware through it? Sorry, but that won’t happen. The software isn’t their choice – why should they be offended at complaints about what they probably don’t like themselves? Just look at the history of this site and you’ll see lots of sofware that nobody liked(DoubleGames and Magnussoft readily come to mind). Did the complaints(which were all perfectly true) close the site down? No.

In case you didn’t notice, people aren’t complaining about the “opportunity to get some nice freebies”. That would be stupid. What they’re complaining about, and rightly so, is that the freebies themselves just aren’t worthwhile. Commenters have the obligation to give their opinions – that’s what this section is for. These opinions are used by the site visitors to make the decision to download or pass, and by the developers(hopefully) to improve the software itself. What use is a comments section with only one viewpoint?

Well, I thought that I would give this a try even though I really don’t need it. It installed without a problem to my USB thumb drive. After it installed, I ran, registered and set it up…so far so good. I dismounted the USB drive from the system and plugged it back in and ran the program. It asked me for a user password. I entered the password for my email account and….no go. Never being asked for a password during the setup and/or installation, I decided to dismount the USB drive and try it again. Inserted the USB drive, and whoa…everything wiped clean. Good thing I did this on an empty thumb drive.

Since I can’t really say much about other apps that fall into this category, and this one didn’t go very well, I think I will leave it up to others that read this to decide if they want to try it or not.

I am thinking about DLing this to try it out. I currently have Thunderbird Portable on my flash drive with quite a few other PortableApps.com software. Is this worth the small download?

As everyone has said, don’t bother.
If you want a portable email client that doesn’t use the registry at all though (instead of using a wrapper to delete the entries it has made)forget portableapps.com and try KomaMail.
It supports rss feeds has a good interface and does everything I could want in an email application.

Oh yeah, it’s free too :)

You can configure the directory that most e-mail clients use for both messages and address book. You can put this directory on your memory stick if you like and take the stick where ever you want, so what exactly is the point with this software?
