You dont know dick either... I never have had to reinstall windows after a regestry clean in 20 years....

C’mon people — anyone who doesn’t know by now that “registry cleaners” can’t do dick for you and in fact do more harm than good - I don’t know what to tell you. Have fun re-installing Windows.

This is the same program give out less than a week ago. All the popups all the time again.

I could not convert the file into and other format and make changes in the bitmap,

I then started to open the C:\Windows\system32 directory and the file did not exist

You cannot resize the video windows. It saves in totally different locations. To many mouse clicks to get the download. Installed to C: directory....ridiculous

And again, some many programs from the same developer for over a week.

When I first downloaded it, without even running it for the first time, I deleted the following files and it worked fine.

They are
inetchl.dll,
mscomctl.ocx,
msinet.ocx
mscmcchs.dll
hb6ch.dll
wbskit.dll

All these programs were already in my Windows\system32 directory.

I would suggest everyone go to the program directory and look over the files first before executing the program and do a search for these file

Thumbs down

I forgot: analyzed the installation and it seems to be reasonably lean. No files in any places you wouldn't expect and just a few registry keys added.

Have used registry cleaners and have not had problems and have been able to keep my booting and shutting down fast. However, part of the reason I have not had problems is that I'm cautious to the point of being anal, and so I have concentrated on only manually deleting keys to files I know I've deleted. Those keys are what slows up booting and shutdown (In terms of the registry only, I realize there are other causes.) as the computer is basically set up to go through everything looking for what it needs. Like thumbing through an old fashioned paper hotel registry book one entry at at time. As to 63 - Balaji's link to say that these things don't work, I didn't dig, but the actual page is just a recommendation from 2 members of a forum saying that cleaners don't work, without an explanation why. It's funny, because Microsoft used to has had it's own cleaning utilities for the registry over the years, so, apparently, MS thinks they work. Or at least have thought that from time to time.

On the one hand, I've rarely had to spend the time reloading an OS, on the other, manually deletion is also time consuming. I do it not just because I'm anal, but also to learn. For many people, a computer is justifiably just a tool. For others it's a tool and a trainer, so I try never to use an automatic repair utility. If the computer attempts to repair something automatically, so that I don't what it's doing, I don't learn anything.

To today's software, I've currently got Glary Utilities and WinUtilities and have used EasyCleaner in the past. From descriptions I read here, I felt QuickSys had customizable options that the others didn't. Some of that, however, was my bad memory about the other three.

Downloaded and tested using Returnil, so I could test in a virtual environment without making any permanent changes. Installation on Vista Home Premium was straight forward. Software is set up to install as Administrator. Cut and paste of registration info. was straightforward and effective. I would say I like this interface - I do - but with this type of program that's a minor consideration. Basically, you want a way to scan, a way to change options, and a way to view the results. Mucking up something that simple requires some work, like the bug in the last give away version of WinUtilities which doesn't allow the results window to be expanded. Still, I find the QuickSys layout to be simple, clean, and straightforward.

Did a scan and this found 50% more hits than WinUtilities and 3 times as many as Glary, but I report that without comment as I haven't had time to screen the hits for quantity over quality. I think that QuickSys has the best report of the 4.

Room for Improvement:
1. No help file. There isn't much here that requires help. I only see one setup option, that of performance, where I'd want to hear their explanation. There's a link to the support webpage, but there's not much useful there. First FAQ is "Sales Information". Gee, thanks! Sorry, language issues aside: Not writing a help file is lazy. Practically always a blackmark.
2. Many of these programs don't offer an easy option to reload a previous scan, so you can continue manually deleting. I'm usually not going to be able to manually go through over a 1,000 entries all at one sitting.
3. Reading the last log (or any older ones) is achieved here through going to an option in settings. That's okay, but a direct link to it I think would be better.

Bottom line, this has more useful cutomizable options than the other ones I've used, and they're straightforward. I strongly suspect there are better freewares out there with even more options - certainly according to some descriptions I've seen - but this has all the basics and a little more. It seems to be well thought out and layed out, and finds plenty of what you'd expect it to find. $25 seems reasonable, but with all the freewares out there, they're unlikely to get that much. I'm not sure you could get more than $10 for this. $20 at the most. That's just the nature of this particular market.

For the time being, I'm happy to have this in my toolbox. I'm sure I'll get good use out of it. Thanks GOTD and BM.

downloaded it and ran it on Windows vista Home Premium and it did what it said. I concurr with the pros and cons of #32 as to this program not having a registry Defragmenter.

i would suggest using pagedfrg from sysinternals @

www.sysinternals.com

This little app will work on Vista as well but is designed for XP. It will defragment your pagefile and your registry hives. this might be the frosting on the cake that is Quicksys Registry cleaner.

Installed clean. fast performance and nice clean interface that showed what was wrong and what would be corrected. One of the better one's I've tested.
