I was impressed with this quick & easy slideshow maker!

I made a DVD for my niece of all the 'family photo's' she had sent me. We watched it on Thanksgiving Day when our whole family got together, and everyone was impressed with the professional looking transitions, and music.

I agree whole-heartedly with #64's (Fugazi) pro's & con's!!!

One more con/bug I have to report, is that in the preview mode it only plays the first song (and annoyingly keeps repeating it) in the music list. But, it does place, & play, them all on the finished DVD! It would be nice if you could have a seperate playlist for each show/chapter on the disk, instead of just repeating the same music for each show/chapter.

Having stated that, if the programmers at QR Software read the cons mentioned aboved and modified/improved the program accordingly, I feel the $39.95 price would then be perfectly justified! ;o)

Installed fine. Registered without problem. Looks like fun, though not many options to be creative. Closed the program and noticed that all my icons, desktop and in folders were completly gone. Did a scandisk, defrag, and ran antispyware programs, and nothing. Uninstalled the program and all icons were back in place. Uninstalled and reinstalled this program 3 times before giving up. Dont usually have any problems with programs from GAOD.

#41, 42: Moizelle, the review in #39 is by a different Jonathan, not me of the "rather simplistic blog" (I prefer to think I am writing for a general audience). I did not review this giveaway at all.

I do post a comment when I think the information could be useful, even if I haven't had time to try out the current giveaway. But I always say whether I have tested it. If I don't have anything helpful to say, I don't comment.

My criticism of Belgian Dude had nothing to do with the specific program being offered, and did not need to -- it was about his unhelpful and cruel comments. You are free to disagree with me, and I see some others did too (and a few agreed with me).

I hope we can all try to be friendly to each other and post comments in the spirit of helping each other, not knocking each other down. I only knocked Belgian Dude down because he was doing much worse.

I stand by my comments in #16. #4 was accurate (and no, I have no link with the programmers or the company).

I downloaded it and burned a mini DVD with over 200 family pictures, there was still room for more (they were resized to about 40-50kb each).

Plays fantastic with Power DVD, haven't tried it on an external player yet as I don't have one but I'm sure it will.

The disc will be a nice birthday present for my aging Mum.

I didn't have the opportunity to do much with QR Photo DVD Slideshow, as my disks are full and I ran out of DVD's to dump onto, but the effects looked pretty good, although there are few of them, and while the effects have options, the options are limited. The author needs to change the English translation from "Effet" to "Effect". Since I'm out of DL media, I don't know whether DVD Slideshow supports that; there's no indication that it does.

#41, Moizelle, a better option than Unlocker and manual deletions is to try Safe Mode (with Networking support, if necessary) for problem installations or uninstallations. Since Safe Mode loads few drivers and startup programs, it frequently solves file-in-use problems.

It seems that any frequent poster gets blasted here, unfortunately. I'll probably get blasted someday. BladedThoth, Swan, Hempman, and now, Belgian Dude, have all been bashed. I don't always agree with other's posts, but I respect those who are willing to give their honest opinions. While I think Belgian Dude sometimes goes overboard with the glass-half-empty viewpoint, there is generally also truth in his comments. Swan was hurt by some of the vicious attacks on her, and unfortunately, no longer posts here. She's having some health issues right now, but has some detailed reviews on her new site, Premier Software Reviews. I have respect for those who are able to articulate their viewpoints, I have none for those who are too cowardly to do so. I never vote thumbs-up or thumbs-down on a comment on the basis of the poster's identity, I do so on the value of the comment. There's a Fubar-hater who goes to some effort to vote thumbs-down on all of my comments. Apparently, they think that they're "hurting" me, but they're just amusing me. If they really weren't interested in what I have to say, they wouldn't bother. They're actually showing interest in my comments by tracking them down and voting on them.

#61, nancy, the easiest way to select text to be copied is generally to use your mouse--move your mouse over the text you want to select, while holding down the left mouse button over that text (then release). Use Ctrl-C to copy the text (to the clipboard), left-click your mouse at the location you want to paste to, then press Ctrl-V to paste (Ctrl-P used to be used for something else, so that's why Ctrl-V is used to paste; Ctrl-X is used to cut).

28 and 38: This IS, as are all programs here, a FULL VERSION, NOT A TRIAL! Just exactly as GOTD claims. Don't write long-winded, pompous lectures to GOTD about truth in labeling; READ the blinkin' label.

Just REGISTER the effin' thing, by the method indicated in the readme, which is often clunky but does work. You will find that you have a full registered version, with the limitations specified by GOTD. Yeesh!

Before installation, I scanned this file with Norton Anti-virus, which found no problems. = )

This program installs very easily. Just don't forget to cut and paste the activation code from the final installation screen into the program.

All things considered, this is a decent slideshow maker being that it's free, but I can't imagine paying $40.00 for this. Here's my quick list of pros, and cons...

PROS:
1) Very easy to install.
2) No bundled adware / spyware / viruses.
3) Ability to create multiple shows on the 1 disc.
4) Ability to add .mp3 or .wav music files to each slideshow, as well as the main menu.
5) Works very fast. Loads photos, accepts changes, and starts / stops previews very rapidly, with no lag, or stuttering.

CONS: (The menu "creation" in general leaves much to be desired.)
1) Very poorly translated help file / instructions.
2) No ability to use your own photo for the menu background. You get to choose from just about 10 premade templates, some of which already have words built into the background that are of no use to your project such as "Children's Day".
3) Very limiting text input options for menus / titles - limited to about 10 characters for anything but the smallest fonts.
4) No ability to resize, choose, or even relocate the thumbnail photos.
5) Overpriced at $40.00

I have to compare this to Nero slideshow maker being that it's the only other slideshow maker I have. Honestly, it's a toss up for me. If these two programs were combined, we'd really have everything we could possibly ask for in a slideshow creation program. Alas, my search continues.

Nero = Superior menu creation options, but lacks proper audio support.

QR = Virtually non-existant menu creation options, but supports .mp3, and .wav audio backgrounds.

Thanks for your input. I do however know what a trial is. And for to your surprise, yes I have downloaded this today. Mabe if YOU goto the manufacturers website, you will see there is a difference. You see, a trial is where it is only for a limited time. Like i said, mabe you would know what I said if you could read, which you obviously have a hard time with. I said I dont mind trials, they save me alot of money, but sometimes on here, you are right, I guess, but sometimes, friend, you are mistaken, what seems to be a full program, is sometimes a trial. So there is a difference. And your post shows your intelligence which is obviously needing some improvement, I choose not to come on here and be cranky. People on here, dont like to read cranky stuff. They come here to read about PROGRAMS. So, sorry good friend, I am above you, and your obvious level of disrespect for me.
have a good day.

Have read all comments and only #24 sounds the most informative to me, however I do not know how to copy and paste. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks GAOTD

Hello everyone
I am new to this site and have only been coming for the past month or so.
I would like to comment on the software in discussion but I’m very cautious about what I install on my computer, if it can be uninstalled and if it leaves residue.

I prefer to read the posts and most of all the 15 min. evaluations that have been put up about the products in previous product testing. (I have not seen them in a few days)

Having installed XP 4 years ago and not needing to reinstall has taken a constant effort to keep the registry clean and the operating system intact. It would seem that you would need an old, unimportant machine to test these offerings if you would like to keep your computers integrity.

I will leave that up to the 15 min. review.

Thank you for offering the software and reviews,
Oneshot

Funny that the posts criticizing Belgian Dude's grammar and spelling have grammatical and/or spelling errors. I appreciate Belgian Dude's comments more than many of the other comments. He, at least, does not stoop to ad hominem attacks like his many critics do. As soon as ad hominems begin, credibility ends. Belgian Dude don't let the insulted cheerleaders and misguided do-gooders dissuade you from posting here.

Installed and registered w/out a hitch. I created an attractive slide-show of 10 photos very easily.

Message to 9 and 22 - the program is being given away FREE! If you don't appreciate this simple fact go elsewhere because, like many others, I'm fed up with reading unhelpful, whining messages posted by idiots. I appreciate knowing about installation problems, but assumptions that the rest of us are posting w/out having tried the software or insinuations that we are stooges for the software company is both puerile and extremely B O R I N G. Go elsewhere if you don't like FREE software.

Thanks to GAOTD and QR Software.

To #4 - I don't get it - you're complaining about a professional service charging "Total = $131 for 20% of overall work because we did the first 80%! :("

Just how much do you want a company to charge to do work for you? Don't be surprised when they are out of business because you don't want to pay a reasonable amount (say four hours at a little more than $30 an hour?) What - you want them to pay the same rate as people make flipping hamburgers?

I'm really sick of the Walmart mentality. Pay as little as possible and then gripe about the price or results. Just pitiful.

I'm glad you found the software works for you, but stop knocking the people who use a LOT more expensive scanners and software to do this. They've got to pay the bills too, and $131 for the work you are talking about is not a bad price at all. Just how many DVD's did you burn "testing" the software and changing your layout, and how many hours did you spend? Please take that in account before you deride a professional media provider as you did.

Hey #23, Belgian Dude, if you read my comments I said if it does work as advertised, which it does not by the way, it would be worth the money.
Why would I use this instead of Premiere Pro? Easy question to answer, ease of use and time to prepare, and allow others to know how to create DVD slideshows at a fraction of the cost that I had to pay.
Dude, since you seem to know everything about everyone that posts a comment on here, maybe you should open a psychic hotline. Nevermind, you knew nothing about me, and were clueless as to my comments.
If I were a shill, I would have stated how wonderful this program is to use and how easy it was to create masterpieces. ATTENTION: I never stated that.
Thanks again GOTD to let us test this software, and the ability to leave a Comment in - guess where Dude- the comments section!

Okay, I have now tried the program. It is similar to many that are available for free or at a very low cost.
This suffers from lack of control that many programs in the low-end price point in this category do.
It works okay if you want a 'canned' slideshow, but does not allow many modifications or control.
I would say for free it is okay, but I would use Photo Story before I would use this.
But thanks for the test drive GOTD.

Installed and registered without a problem. I opened it, pulled in a batch of photos, added some text and transitions, used their demo music and a menu and was done within a couple of minutes! Now I know what I can do with all the family photos I want to distribute.

I found it very easy to use and quick. I think it's a good program
Thank you GAOTD and QR Software!

To Eman777 (#9): Your comment was up there nice and early in the morning. If you're a professional, as you claim, you could have given people some idea of what you found lacking in this program. You also could have mentioned a few of the better programs you claim to know about. That useful information would have been here all day for others to benefit from. Instead you threw a childish fit. Way to go, "pro".
Personally, I think you're full of crap.

And Belgian Dude, you need to switch to de-caf, buddy. You're an aneurism waiting to rupture.

I have read 40 comments that have been made about this software to date and still have absolutely no idea if it is worth a download. I currently use Windows Movie Maker for slideshows to DVD and Photo Story 3 which requires the output file to be converted prior to burning. How does today's offering compare to these free alternatives???
I am also continually confused over the FREE tag given to these daily offerings....are they free forever? Free for 12 months? Free for 6 months?....what's the story?
Take today's for instance, a couple of posts say it is free for 20 examples only....a free trial is available from the publisher's site with exactly the same limitation. I do think the GOTD team should make the limitations clearly apparent for each item of software.
In the meantime....please hurry back BladedToth!!!
Peace to all.....JIMBO

Downloaded and installed easily. Registered easily as well. This is a really simple program to use but doesn't allow for hardly any 'tweaking' whatsoever. Though I do appreciate GOTD and all the free programs they offer this is not one of the better ones.

I guess I should have answered #30 in the previous posts
Standard rule of the thumb 10 minutes running time on a slide show is the suggested amount of time. Anymore then that people become bored and do not pay attention. 400 photos are way to many. Pick the best ones and cut it down. You want to know other programs and you mentioned FREE. FREE is FREE and you get what you pay for. I like Wondershare Photo Story Platinum. It was offered before here. It is a Fun program with lots of added effects, but what the heck this one can still make a nice DVD for you.

RE: #38 Either you are installing the programs WRONG or you have NO CLUE what a free trial is .. Personally I think it is both! If you want the TRIAL version go to the manufactures web site and down load it .. you will see the difference. (well you wont if you can't learn to install the version here correctly)I would bet you have not even DL this one today. You just have to follow along with the dude from Belgian and be cranky. Hopefully you will have a better day tomorrow.

RE: #32 BRAVO!! We can all wish the Belgian dude would meet a girl or boy friend (what ever his choice will be) and have less time on his hands! Hopefully he meets a spelling teacher! Maybe GAOTD can offer a grammer and spell check for his browser one day. Since he has not figured out how to install the free ones offered all over the Internet.

Several people have mentioned the program allows a musical soundtrack to be inserted. Does anyone know if the program allows a voiceover soundtrack to be recorded while the movie was being assembled or would the soundtrack have to be pre-recorded, then inserted with the hope that the slides would sync properly?

Thanks for any help you can give...

Belgian Dude-
Why is it, you can never say anything intelligent about the program but instead rip on everyone? You waste valuable space in here with your relentless rants and raves. You fail to realize, your negativity, goes without saying to only prove that you have nothing better to do than sit at your computer and look for ways to make the world as an unhappy a place as you are. Did you not get enough love as a child or did just eat a bunch of paintchips?
Get a grip dude. Stick to the issues at hand, and shut your hole because you aint no doughnut.

#35, thanks Fubar, decided to give it another try based on your comment. I fear it helped little though. Nothing shows. Not in Task Manager either.
#32, I do agree BelgianDude's comments could be a bit less sarcastic. They however usually make more common sense as your usual 'I tried something similar before, have no time to test this one, but...' kinda comments. I only ever see you pop up promoting your rather simplistic blog. Bit childish to now rage 'war' on another commenter without even bothering to try review this specific program.

I love trying out new slide show creators. This one I can not seem to find the add-ins I see in the program when exploring the program files. I will have to spend more time with this, added effects are a major PLUS. I do like the transitions the program offers, but as a slide show creator there are better ones out there.
It is a bit better then MS Photostory3, but not by much. This was worth the download and it is free today. I am glad I downloaded it and I will be using it some, but not like I use other software. As for the price, well if a person likes the software and does what they want, then the price is adequate.

RE:#9 I too use professional slide show programs in the work I do.. as you can see by the comment made by #4 this has to be his first experience with one and he is happy. He will through GAOTD find better software to try. Isn't that what this is all about? Trying something different!

RE: #13 Picasa2 is exactly what it is FREE for all .. and IMO the crappiest piece of software I have used. Well in 1995 it would have been considered good.

RE #14 MS photostory3 is nice. I must admit, good for first timers. A bit boring for slide shows.

RE: #21 READ the read me again .. if you are using vista run as admin.

RE: #22 I don't know if you used a language translator in your post, but your complaining would make more sense if you proof read it first before posting. Your creditability is lost in missed words and mis spelling. Anyway even if your comment was cleaned up some I would still feel you have little creditability. It is to bad that the rest of the world is not as informed as you. The good part is not everyone in the world is as negative as you. Negative people = unhappy people. It's sad to see someone so unhappy that the world is not like them.

I dont mind the trials on here, but do feel alittle misled at times, because they should say trials if in fact they are trials. I dont mind trials, as it saves me money sometimes. But FREE is FREE. A trial is a trial. Not everyone on here wants a trial. With all due respect to GAOTD, I think the developers should state that it is a "FREE TRIAL" instead of just stating that it is free. There is a big difference between the two, no matter who wants to argue the point. A free trial is different than what most viewers that come to GOATD are led to believe just by the name of the site. I do hope that give away, corrects this. There is nothing wrong with trials, they are valuable, but lets not mislead the viewers on here. Without the viewers on here, and the viewers comments, this site would have no traffic, hence, it would be useless. Treat your traffic well, they are the reason for your success. By the way, sometimes I come here just to read the comments, some of you people are funnier than i can tell you. hehe

When you install this program do not accept run-now. You need to register it first otherwise it will default to the trial version.

Very easy and simple to use. I had a file of images that I selected, added a music file and voila...I had a slide show with music in less then 2 minutes. I love programs that can be used without having to read complicated help files and this was one of them. Well done.

#26, Brian, #29, Moizelle, as Belgian Dude noted, the application can open behind other windows, unfortunately without appearing on the task bar (bad programming practice). Use Alt-Tab, Alt-Shift-Tab to navigate to the program's window (always do this when installing or registering, as it's not unusual--it's also a fundamental design flaw in Windows).

You only complain about other people's comments, and rarely offer any useful information of your own. Your biting criticisms help no one, and only make you look bad. I don't know makes you so bitter and resentful toward others, but I hope you will get some therapy to learn to cope with your inner rage. Until then, please refrain from spewing your hateful venom at the rest of us.

Other commenters: If you agree with me, please vote for this comment as "useful." If you disagree, please vote against it. Then perhaps Belgian Dude can see how popular his sermons are.

Thank you for your attention.

Hmmmmm, I read all the comments, even the ones from the 'shills' and some of them impressed me and others just annoyed me. Unfortunately, none of them told me what I want to know,.... mainly, is this the program that I need to make a lovely wedding dvd with the 400+ photos that I have of my son's medieval wedding this summer? or not. I love Picasa and I'm using it to edit my pics and I have JAlbum and Scrapbook Studio (neither of which I have had a chance to use) but I don't know yet if any of these programs will give me what I want...or is THIS the program that I need. And if it isn't and there are better free programs out there as suggested by #9, could you please tell me, and others like me, what they are.

#26, had the exact same thing happen here (XP Pro sp2, fully up to date). I recommend you install Unlocker so you can manually delete the files with a rightclick.

For #3 now about read the instructions?

Installed in Vista 32 with no problems and if you just copy the licence name and number over to the registration page you will have no problems.

Couple of points, if you are going to give away a program then give away the full version, this one says it is limited to 20 examples. Also the spelling on the program leaves a little bit to be desired, however I realise it is probably from a non English country, however if it is being marketed for an English audience then perhaps it should be spell checked and grammar checked prior to release.

Otherwise it looks fine, at least the functions work unlike a previous slide show program the GAOTD had a while ago. I will play with it some more and it may be a keeper.

If you search around on Ebay and such, you will find the prior edition of Roxio Media for around $50. Makes movies. Makes slide shows. Can add audio. Its in stereo. Can write to blueray (if you have a writer). I can convert video to ipods. It can make ringtones. It can create the lightscribe covers. Pretty much for $50, you can get what most of the free programs have been offering but all in one, and its not a brain dead but the real deal. I've been using it for some time, easy to use and figure out. And Roxio's been doing this stuff for a LONG time so its not some garage outfit that has a pretty box and no support.

Installed it but the application would not not open up. I tried to delete it with its own UNINSTALL, and it says it is uninstalled but the files were not deleted. Tried to delete the files manually and the dll and exe files won't delete. Tried to reinstall over it, won't re-install.

Now to find some software to get this off the hard drive.....any recommendations?

This one did not work for me.

April,

After running the setup.exe, and there by installing it, you'll have a window pop up with all the necessary information to register the program (could be popping up behind another window if you have other programs running at the time of installation)

E.g.
Giveawayoftheday

XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX

make a copy of the info and paste it into notepad or so.

You'll also see another window of the program itself stating that you can only use 20 images at the time because it's in trial mode. Clicking on the button to enter license info you should be able to put in the information that you copied earlier.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

Solution for everyone with registration problem -- the registration name and key pops up in the successfully activated box. This is the box where GOTD wants us to add a bookmark of the site after successful activation. Copy the registration code before closing the box. If you have already installed the app and closed the box, you might want to uninstall and reinstall. Also, look out for a small box that will appear for you to enter the registration code. Hope this helps!
