I installed during the giveaway period, registered with the supplied key but am still getting a nag screen indicating the product will time out after 30 days? (or put a watermark on which of course is the point)

Adding to my earlier comment #5, I would like to add that the folder watching feature and email box watching is interesting. I have tried using the folder watching... it works well... but the documentation for it is very poor. This feature together with inbox watching is at risk of becoming a lost feature of the software.

I found that the original software site, http://www.software602.com/products/print2pdf, has much more information than the intermediary publisher "binarynow"

Great print PDF.

I like this point 'Easily create an Adobe PDF from any application that can print or use the watcher to integrate PDF conversion into your workflow.'

that's what I want.

compare to my PDF Converter, I think it's the good software to make up, the point 'merge PDF files with ease'.

Google Chrome offers this as a built in function in its browser, its hard to tell how I would use this program as a personal user who does not own a printer but needs to save documents in a original, as I seem them on the screen format and not copying and pasting into a word program and have it look messy. I do have to give the developer props for a nice looking website, and not making it look creepishly spammy like some of the other products websites I've seen published here.

@Giovanni #17: I tried the link you gave for Expert PDF Pro. Neat trick to register for the free German version, then upgrade to English. The page looked good, so I registered, but never got the confirmation email. Registered again with another address, no confirmation. Checked spam filters, etc., for both addresses. No problem. Any idea why they're not responding? Do you think their promotion has ended?

@34 "(Note: we’ve not heard one word from today’s developer)."
This is not absolutely true. If you check the "Share your ideas" section you will see that binarynow was monitoring and answering it since early morning today. If you have suggestion how to improve Watch folder, maybe you should submit it there. I have no need for this feature, but generally I like product very much, especially the fact that it allows me to create MSI client install with custom configuration is very nice and usefull for business. I can see why some organization would purchase this just for custom profiles and autogenerated custom msi installs.

nice gotd. works es expected (i didnt try sharing/multiple install), in fact better than any of my (free or cheap) pdf-creators and much simplier than my adobe acrobat. just a bit expensive (ofcourse not here in gotd). i tried word etc. integration - on the first attempt i didnt sse any change in gui and normally i have macros disabled, what was problem here. and not small one - at each start it tries to enable them (mso2003), even after i unchecked mso integration in konfiguration dialog (so i left macros switched on, but i dont like this). oh, and help pge dont work (czech one?)...

Well, there are too many free alternatives, and all of us have at least one of them already installed. Recently there is this Nitro PDF converting software which does excellent job and looks really good. I don't think that anybody is impressed with today's giveaway, but I guess, with screensavers we have to put up with these as well... waiting for tomorrow's GOTD...

Not every home network is limited to connecting a couple of PCs/laptops to the web. Not every site is commercial. No offense intended, IMHO there are probably lots of folks who could put the extended features of Print2PDF to good use at home, in the dorm etc...

BinaryNow is the [today generous] US distributor of Software602 Print2PDF [software602.com] -- both sites have lots of help & documentation available, though Software602's site also hosts a free version plus a Tips and Tricks page. Today's GOTD, Print2PDF, is a nice, pretty complete package with a lot of biz & network oriented features, but I think many will consider it overkill for simpler stuff, like the day to day archiving of web pages by printing to PDF. OTOH the popular & free PDF Creator tends to keep its more powerful features hidden, so I'm not sure that many people have ever run its PDF Print Monitor, let alone browsed through the Options window... for general use I think both PDF printers can be just about as easy to use, or hard if you get into the more involved stuff. Using Software602 Print2PDF it bothered me a little that printing to PDF flashes a DOS or Command Interface window -- often when apps open the command window it's to use non-Windows code, e.g. something adapted from *nix, & while that's not automatically a problem, it *might* mean the devs didn't want to bother going further... I tend to wonder where else they stopped short. Actual performance I think can take a while to judge (days?)... PDF Creator for example occasionally screws up some web pages, but every alternative I've tried so far does worse more often. Likewise when it comes to merging, modding, &/or editing PDF files, apps that do that stuff work well on some PDF files, not so great on others, & getting a good idea what an app like Software602 Print2PDF will handle [& what it won't] means running a lot of PDF files from a lot of sources through it.

Adding Software602 Print2PDF doesn't have that much more impact than installing the free PDF Creator, but that's Not saying it has a low impact on Windows. Using an InstallShield installer means I can't use Universal Extractor to see what's inside the setup file(s), so all I can say is what it installed for me -- more than usual mileage may vary. The "Software602" program folder holds 161 files, 30 folders, ~16 MB -- the "InstallShield Installation Information" folder holds 10 files, 1 folder, ~8 MB -- 9 files were added to Windows system folder, including Microsoft XML 4 files -- 63 files were added to Windows \spool\ drivers folder -- the new soft602 folder in Common Files holds the update service [602updsvc.exe] which is set to run automatically with Windows [Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services] -- User App/Application Data gets both InstallShield & 602Installer folders -- & finally the registry gets ~2.5k new entries with ~200 modded or changed. This does not include options like installing the Print2PDF Service Mgr.

I'm initially very impressed with the feature set of Software602 Print2PDF, but I'm cautious about more bread & butter performance issues -- doing lots of extra stuff is great, but only if it does everyday tasks well, e.g. printing/saving web pages. I'm also a bit hesitant when it comes to the install -- I can live with the InstallShield setup, though InstallShield itself is a PITA for consumers, & I can easily set the Update service to manual, but I'm not sure yet what effects it will have when I re-install Microsoft XML Parser 6 & its latest service packs [version list at Microsoft.com http://goo.gl/9ltn5 ], & I likely will reinstall the latest since many of the ~200 registry changes involved going from v. 6 back to v. 4. I think there *might* be some other potential issues as well with version regressions for other files I've got in the Windows system folder, though checking that stuff out will take a while. Long story short Software602 Print2PDF looks good but IMHO only if you approach it with a bit of caution, setting at least a restore point if you're in win7 [System Restore in XP won't be good enough], preferably backing up, & testing a bit thoroughly while that restore point &/or backup image is still current.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the pdf format can help me.
There are apparently different pdf formats, with some essentially creating non-editable images, and others creating editable, searchable, files which can have the data electronically retrieved from the document.
I'm trying to figure out whether this program is capable of creating the latter. I have had a problem in the past with programs that "create pdf's", but that are rejected from automated websites (the US district court filing system for instance).
Any help in teaching me the difference, (and hopefully the proper language since I am sure I didn't describe my issue properly) would be greatly appreciated.

@25, "Its purpose is for developers to get feedback from testers who might be interested in using it".

I agree with that unspoilt definition. However... the historical site usage suggests otherwise. The types of users here run the gamut from totally green newbies to well-seasoned PC veterans. And their reasons for being here are endless.

As for the developers, some are exactly what you envision, looking to get that invaluable feedback to analyze/revise/improve their product. They spend the day in the trenches here, responding promptly to all relevant feedback and willingly assisting with whatever issues arise.

But... some (if not most) of the developers are conspicuous by their absence on this forum. Personally, I marvel at how a company could get their giveawayofthedayinthesun and yet remain invisble for 24 hours. (Note: we've not heard one word from today's developer).

As for Print2PDF, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of bells and whistles it has and I'll spend some time exploring them.

A few notes:

- When I simply use it as a print driver to print/PDF a Word doc, it presents me with a quite different set of screens (options for adding security, signatures, timestamps, rotations, etc.) than say, CutePDF or Bullzip.

- I hope the developer IS looking for feedback here, because this next issue is very irritating:

For the most part, I just want to set the "Watched" folder parameters once and then just turn the watch feature on and off. But it appears, with this product, the "Watched" folder parameters need to be hunted down and set EACH time the feature is started. On the "Print2PDF Watcher" screen, you have to locate/define the "In" folder, the "Out" folder, the "Report" folder, the "Log" folder, as well as any special security/signature/timestamps/etc features. And then, for some reason, you are also prompted to recreate the .ini file. But... that .ini file is not used the next time you invoke the watch feature, to re-populate any of 20+ previously-used parameters in the "Print2PDF Watcher" screens, despite the fact the .ini does contain info such as, "Watch_WatchPath=C:\Program Files\Print2PDF\In".

Also, I couldn't find a method to select a previously used .ini (in effect, to load a particular combination of watched folder settings).

I have to do more analysis to determine if the software's usefulness outweighs these types of shortcomings.

According to the website description, it is a powerful software.
Too powerful for home use.
Suitable for office + commercial environment.

It is a moot point to discuss what any GOTD software costs, since it is given away free here.

Whether anyone will buy at its commercial price after GOTD offer lapses, is subject to many variables and it is a pointless debate. For example, if a person runs a business that makes $50 Million a year, then why fuss over whether to buy a $300 software if that helps to do the business better. But for a home user with no business to run, it does not make sense. To each his own.

Am already using Expert PDF well integrated into my PC configuration. Ms Word and Excel has Expert PDF toolbar icons that create PDF. So why add this new software?

Adding one more may screw up the system, as multiple softwares conflict with each other and try to push out the others from being the "default" to create PDF. It may not, but I am not prepared to risk that as a home user. For business user - different story, you may need/like this software.

Powerful encrypt features built-in?
But most of us already have other powerful third party encryption software that we are familiar with. How often do home users need to encrypt their PDFs?

Stick with your tried and tested PDF creator that you already have, especially if it is freeware.

Note that when GOTD users comment about freeware, it is not to spite the software publisher + GOTD. We are not talking about the cost comparison of Free versus Commercial Price.

Rather, we are talking about longevity of usage.
And thus stability and dependability.

If something happens that damages/wipes out the activated/registered GOTD software application AFTER the offer expires, then it is gone.

But if we are using a freeware for the same utility purpose, then there is no such problem.

Thus in areas where the utility/function of the software is crucial to us, freeware is seen in terms of long term viability. It is not because your commercial GOTD offered software is "no good".

I was attracted to Print2PDF because it is the only free (today only) PDF solution I know of -- and I have tried many -- that produces faithful PDFs from Word that can include hyperlinks and bookmarks.

I tested Print2PDF on a Word document of nearly 500 pages (13 MB) with many graphics, and was pleased with the rendition. The job took about 15 minutes, which is acceptable. (I have not tested sources other than Word yet.)

There were big problems, though: Bookmarks Panel and Table of Contents hyperlinks jump to locations distant from the intended targets. It seems that the offset increases the further down you go in a long document, though results were erratic. And cross-references (internal hyperlinks in the document text) were not translated to hyperlinks at all. Adobe Acrobat handles both these challenges well, though it is expensive.

Without reliably accurate bookmarks and hyperlinks, I see no advantage to this product over its free competition except its network functions.

I hope this is helpful.

@Jules Verne - "YAY!!" ... it seems the number of people posting about what alternatives there are (and to promote their personal favorite) has finally outweighed serious product reviews.

@#19 "This product is probably fine for what it does but I have not a lot of use for making PDF’s so I’ll keep using the free CutePDF which is excellent for my purposes." Gee, thanks for an objective review of a product you seem to have no need for. And your critique of their graphics design makes me so much more interested (or not) in what this product can and can't do.

@Luan #6 ..."Very useful! I’d like this software. Thanks for share!" Wow, I'm convinced now! Sign me up!

@Angela #1... "But now, since this is totally free to download, why not give it a try?" GREAT idea! In fact, if you DO give it a try, could you write a review please?

C'mon GOTD... this forum seems less about product reviews which help a company market it's product and discover flaws with such and more like a place to just speak your uninformed mind on product you haven't even tried.

This forum is for product REVIEWS, not a place to promote other software/freeware. Dangit, I miss ashraff.....

Installed great on win7HP and no registration issues. The gui is a bit cluttered but still easy to get used to. I wish it had a scan-to-pdf function (like scan2pdf freeware). But it does seem to process my test/text files quite quickly and with good results when opening the final docs in Adobe Reader and Firefox. Not sure how often I'll use it, but it's nice to have in my arsenal. Thanks!

I use PrimoPDF, and it is always free to use both for personal as well as business use. It installs as a virtual print driver, so it is fully integrated with Windows in right-click menus and other place also. PrimoPDF gives you the ability to set different qualities for the printed PDF document (size and quality are inversely proportional), and also allows you to encrypt the resulting PDF using 40-bit or 128-bit encryption. Moreover, PrimoPDF allows you to append documents to each other, so you can print multiple documents into one PDF file (several chapters you are working on independently in Word, for instance).

I also know that there are umpteen other free print-to-pdf software offerings out there, and most of them seem to have more features than what is being given away here. In short, a complete waste of time but not a monetary loss today since it is free. When it is not free, the words that come to mind are "highway robbery".

If you're using the 32-bit edition of Windows, the following files can be safely deleted if you're strictly using the English language version:

add-printer-x64.bat, and VistaLib64.dll from the C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\Client directory.

Print2PDF_client_x64.xml, and P2PDF8_x64.ini from the C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\ClientMSI directory.

All .lng files from the C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\Lang directory except for en-US.lng. You can also delete the cs-CZ and en-US directories.

The cs-CZ folder from C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\Macro\Excel directory

You can delete all .aspx files except for Default.aspx in the following directories:

C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\WebApp
C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\WebApp_20

you can delete the C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\WebApp_x64 directory and C:\Program Files\Software602\Print2PDF\WebService_x64 altogether.

you can delete acfpdfuamd64.dll, acfpdfuiamd64.dll, cdintf450_x64.dll, Software602_x64.dll, RunProcess64.dll, RunPrintMonitor64.exe, Installer.exe and P2PDF_x64.ini from the C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\Print2PDF directory.

you can also delete msvbvm60.dll, msvcr71.dll, msvcrt40.dll, msxml4.dll, msxml4a.dll and msxml4r.dll after verifying they exist in the C:\Windows\System32 directory.

You can delete the C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\x64 altogether.

This will save over 8MB in space savings.

It integrates into Microsoft Word and Excel and adds a shell extension for Software602Print2PDF on right-clicking.

I like todays offering, it produces more consistent results over other PDF conversion utilities.

Not long ago I was looking for a pdf printer that would work with Windows 7 and the 64 bit since my previous pdf programs weren't doing the job. After trying out a couple, I liked Cute the most: first it's free and second, it's fast and didn't have any problems with printing more than 2000 pages.

That said, today's program is free today, is fast and does the big jobs without problems too - so I'll just keep both installed and see over time which one I use more. Both seem to be requesting outbound connections for reason whatever.

So, now not ONLY has this forum been reduced to "this freeware is better than the offering" BUT "MY freeware choice is better that YOURS"?? (all with absolutely no explanation, by the way).

Pointing out freeware options is valid when accompanied by reasons why (other than price, obviously) it IS a better option. Juvenile "neiner, neiner, mine is better than yours" comments are worthless.

Moderators need to either actually DO something by screening out this garbage OR take down the forum altogether because this has gotten unreadable. (My 2 cents).

As to the product, this is NOT your typical PDF printer software and comparing it to such is kind of like comparing a maserati to a volkswagon and concluding that 'both get you to the same destination so the maserati is worthless because volkswagon makes a car'. This offers much more than the usual and it is meant for a heavy-duty office environment. It IS, however, still usable on the desktop. Sure, YOU may not want or need everything it offers but that's NOT a reflection on the program.

And, NO, #7, the PDF encryption feature is NOT offered by Axcrypt (geez, if you don't know about a topic, don't pretend that you do).

Basically, this is a great product that you should consider if you cannot do what you want with the usual PDF printers (like Cute and Bullzip).

Print2PDF 9.1 has a extensive list of features and if it works as claimed it could be a useful office tool.
A similar program is PDF995 that is free or they have an enterprise version. It's converted large (over 200 pages)complex documents with graphics for me where Adobe Writer failed.

For personal use there are many free converts including the free version of Print2PDF.

You can also use the Microsoft XPS Document Writer that may already be installed on your PC. It's a better choice than some of the free PDF writers if the document has images. It also has the advantage of staying current with the Microsoft updates, so the program that you use once every 4 months won't suddenly stop working.

Print2PDF 9.1 giveawayoftheday creates 819 registry keys, values added = 1864. Its really not a printer, but a pdf conversion app.

Todays giveaway is best installed to the C:\Program Files (x86) directory if you're using the 64-bit edition of Windows as it installs a service and virtual driver which starts when Windows starts.

If you're strictly using the English version you can delete all files in the Lang directory except for en-US.lng. You can also delete the en-US and cs-CZ directories.

You can also delete all *.aspx files in the WebApp and WebApp_20 and WebApp_x64 directories except for Default.aspx.

And Installer.exe from the Print2PDF directory.

You can delete the following files from the C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\Print2PDF directory:

msvbvm60.dll, msvcr71.dll, msvcrt40.dll, msxml4.dll, msxml4a.dll, and msxml4r.dll after verifying they exist in the C:\Windows\System32 and/or C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory if you're using the 64-bit edition of Windows.

If you're using the 64-bit edition of Windows, you can delete the W32X86 folder under the C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers directory.

This should save you over 6MB in space savings.

More deletions may be possible, I'll have to play with it.

This product is probably fine for what it does but I have not a lot of use for making PDF's so I'll keep using the free CutePDF which is excellent for my purposes.
The thing I'd like to point out to the makers is that the graphic for your Box Cover is completely wrong. The perspective in the box picture is totally back to front. Can't you see this glaring, visually jarring error? It's so simple to get it right, just a matter of observation, you don't need to be a graphics expert. When you look at a physical object the part closest to you, in this case the front of the box, appears to be bigger than the part at the back and the picture recedes towards the horizon, looking smaller the further away it is. Knowing this is a really basic skill for a professional graphic artist and you should realize that you do your product a great disservice presenting it with such amateurish art-work.

Today's giveaway looks like a tool suitable for very professional people or even for an enterprise environment rather than for ordinary home users as most of people here are...so not sure how useful and handy this app can be for GAOTD subscribers.

As for FREE ALTERNATIVES....NO WAY!!

The BEST FREE PDF creator and editor for Home Users I ever used out there is EXPERT PDF PRO from AVANQUEST which is much better and more professional compared to the ones mentioned above by Fubar & co (this is just my personal opinion of course).

You can grab EXPERT PDF PRO version 6 for FREE following instructions here:

To merge, split, encrypt, decrypt, fill out forms on PDF files and perform other more advanced operations on a PDF file for FREE you can also use the excellent freeware PDFill:

When installing and when trying to print from this software I get an error message:
'Windows Script Host is disabled on this machine'. I think my computer is locked down to prevent malware. Can I get round this, or is it an uninstall and forget it?

The Print2PDF screenshots page has cropped thumbnails (you must click to see) of many of the features. Print2PDF is a very capable product. I'm careful about installing real or virtual printers because they can impact other printers and paper options. Most GOTD users will find the advanced PDF options to be quite confusing. If you print the same document to different virtual PDF printers and analyze them in Adobe Reader X, you'll find numerous differences in how the PDF was written. People also get confused about the output sizes, which for the same document can vary greatly by virtual PDF printer and selected options, often yielding unexpected results.

@9, I have tested this and the answer is no. I have not seen anything about Ghostscript.

Installed OK with Win7U64, way too complicated/overoptioned for my personal use, I will stick to CutePDF.
No uninstall Options in Package

As a marketer, I echo the concerns of others about the apparent contradiction of offering a software which really only has commercial application (there's even mention of "enterprise-level" licensing), with the admonition that it's for "personal use only." As others have mentioned, there are plenty of freeware alternatives that DON'T give a rip whether or not their software is used "commercially," so that leaves me with just ONE question:

Just what exactly is going to happen if one should happen to get caught using the software in a commercial environment or for "commercial purposes?"

Lawsuits? Arrest? Public flogging? Perhaps revocation of the offender's birthday?

Suggestion: If you don't want us to use the software "for commercial purposes," then how about NOT offering a software that's designed primarily to be used in a commercial environment!

Does Print2PDF 9.1 uses/installs Ghostscript??

I'm using PDF XChange Light for PDF-printer, works fine, but don't remember destination folder-every time have to select again.

The BinaryNow website has a link to a recent virtual PDF printer review on freewaregenius. Note the shear number of virtual PDF printers, and they even rejected a bunch. They liked PDF24 Creator best, followed by (tie) PDFCreator (different product) and BullZip PDF Printer. They liked the interface of this product, Print2PDF best, but noted that it doesn't output to image formats. Because of the differences among products, you should select the one that suits you best.

I don't often need to create a PDF from a document, but when I do I have two print to pdf freewares already installed. I realy dont need a third one to do this rather simple thing. Why would anyone pay for this? If I need to encrypt the PDF I use AxCrypt which is also freeware. We realy dont need all these MeToo offerings.

I have been using CutePDF (free) for many years to do print to PDF. It has never let me down. The additional features of the giveaway today Print2PDF 9 seem to be: digital signature, use 40-bit or 128-bit RC4 encryption, in-built document merging, network service installation. However, you can encrypt, decrypt, join, split, stamp, create and rearrange a PDF file using a second tool PDFTools (also free).

What remains for the GOTD is Microsoft IIS, Terminal Services and Citrix features, which wile very useful in some environments, are not exactly "home" or "private" use scenarios.

This license for Print2PDF is for use on a server with up to 5 users. The top of this page says that it can also be installed on the desktop, although I'm not sure that I want to test that, the server version has some nice extra features but also has a lot of things which a home user doesn't need.

The BinaryNow website can be very slow to respond, here is the
Licensing FAQ which describes configurations
Full System Requirements
Comparison between the free and paid editions

Free Edition System Requirements

There are lots of (virtual) PDF printers, they all have some differences. I like BullZip PDF Printer, it is free for personal and commercial use up to 10 users. It uses the open-source Ghostscript, however you should download Ghostscript Light, which is down the BullZip PDF Printer page under System Requirements, just before the License FAQ.

While one can install this on 5 computers, does "3) Strictly personal usage." still apply?

Oh, a really expensive pdf tool, but now it's totally free to use. Thank for GOTD's sharing.

I used a freeware named simpo pdf creator lite to print my files to pdf format when i need.

But now, since this is totally free to download, why not give it a try?

Thanks again for sharing.
