hey evry1,

in my opinion prevx 2.0 is great
if i get malware into my computer and i run the malware by accident, it stops it from loading and tells me its malware and the status goes red so i clik cancel and select the malware, shift+del it to permanently delete it. then the prevx status goes green again. saves me time doing the "cleanup logs" part.

great product!
other versions of prevx:
prevx cgi
prevx 1
prevx home (no expiration)

installed and used since the giveaway. magnificent, it works on both XP and server 2003. anyone who complained is either biased, using vista or shouldn't be in front of a computer because the whole reason it broke in the first place was because of the virus that infected it right out of the box, the user themselves.

people, if you scroll this far down to read this, buy a copy of prevX. i've put it through tests and found it's actually able to do what it claims. thankyou GAOD for introducing me to prevX, it's saved my two laptops and my server and it cost me nothing!

I have used Prevx 1.0 flawlessly since January 25th 2006, and it has been automatically updated to Prevx 2.0 since then at no additional cost. Must say, this program worked for removing stubborn european malware that the more standard such programs wouldn`t even touch!! Will I renew come January 25th 2008? You bet your butt I will! Yes, there MAY be a FEW SECONDS scanning that takes place when starting some program execs. but tell me, what is such protection worth? Again, my computer has run without intrusive malware for months, why, because this program jails them quickly with a popup notice that identifies the "intruder" for later removal at YOUR discretion. Yes, I have used other programs that are still flaunted here in this response section.."Spybot".."Adware"..."Spydoctor.."Mcafee"..."Symantic".."Avg"..etc. These wouldn`t touch some of the malware I have seen. I have been involved with PC`s for 20 years, the only defense against all intrusions I now use, is a standard firewall, and Prevx 2.0!!

Prevx2 was good at the start. seemed like a good program to remove spyware. I had a virus and the program promised to be able to remove it.....wrong. Couldn't remove it so I uninstalled the program.....wrong still couldn't uninstall. downloaded their special remover......wrong. Couldn't uninstall because I didn't have Prevx installed but on program directory clearly showed it being still there. rebooted computer to find all files deleted only now computer working so slow it's not funny. Before MS word takes 3-5 seconds to open. Now at least 30 secs. Not happy! don't install products from shifty companies. trust the big names.

I have used Prevx 2 up till yesterday, about 40 days. My experience with it is both good and bad. The good side is that it really offer amazing protection when it's working. On the bad side that the PrevxConsole (SysTray part) often crashing. It seams to be far to vulnerable/unstable. Sometimes it crashes during install of other software (e.i. Password Manager Deluxe from Kristanix Software) other times it just does not load, and can not be started manually either (e.i. when running Chikka Messenger, both v3 and 4). When the PrevxConsole fails to start, the PC is left in a state of limbo. It's running, but one can hardly use it because Prevx Agent (which is still running) prevents most programs from being executed. It seams as Windows components as allowed, and everything else blocked. Seams to me as the Agent need the Console to perform online verification, so it just blocks access waiting for a verification that never happens. My recommendation for making Prevx better is to make the Console more stable, and to make sure the Agent perform online verification even if the Console fail.

It was a tough task to uninstall Prevx. I downloaded their uninstall tool, but it failed, and left the PC hanging. Had to boot to Safe Mode and set the Prevx Agent Service to Disabled (just in case I had to boot to normal mode again). Now the Uninstall Tool worked (since the Agent Service is not started in Safe Mode). I also gave Administrators full access to the Prevx Agent key in registry, but that did not seam to help. Maybe this is documented some place, but I did not find it.

Used it and it crashed my PC! I tried to reboot my computer after cleaning it with Prevx, and it just restarted. I did finally get it back up and running, but I'll use Prevx sparingly from now on!

I have installed Prevx 2.0 on two XP machines without a hitch. I have un-installed and reinstalled without a hitch. I am not questioning the legitimacy of anyone else's difficulty, just stating the ease of my own installation. Prevx 2.0 does use some system resources. If you are an avid gamer, you won't want Prevx. If you use your PC (with at least 512MB of RAM and a moderately powered CPU) in a home or small office environment, any slow down will be mostly negligible (scan time being the exception).

I'm always amazed when people start talking about the use of resources. All anti-malware products use some resources. The ideal is to find a product or products that offer the most protection with the least impact on your system. That said, programs that are strictly definition based are obsolete and can't keep up with the sophistication and speed of malware writers. At this time Prevx is unique in that it not only uses definition based technology and heuristics it uses other techniques that as has previously stated elsewhere use rootkit techniques in order to battle rootkits, bots and the like. In other words while this program may use more resources than some, it is doing more. IMO, it uses less resources than the popular Norton and McAfee Security Suites. Prevx, however, does not protect against spam or phishing attacks.

The end user will have to decide whether a product that works as effectively as Prevx 2.0 is worth the slight hit you take on your system resources. Bear in mind that it is doing more than any other product currently on the market. In functionality it operates similarly to anti-virus, anti-spyware, and in some regards a firewall.

My first 30 days with Prevx 2.0 has been very good. There have been a couple false positives that I notified Prevx of and were corrected inside of 48 hours. Time will tell if the day comes that I feel I can drop my paid anti-virus and anti-malware products.

Interestingly enough the strength of Prevx 2.0 lies in the very complaints that some have posted. It operates at the kernal level, which is below the USER MODE level. That's why complete removal of every trace of Prevx is difficult. The kernel level is where many modern day malware writers are now attacking. I assume that is the reason some have had difficulty with uninstalls (though I have not) because Prevx will protect itself against malware from trying to directly or indirectly shut it down.

At the kernel level, rootkits can cloak themselves and most anti-mailware products will never see them. Where the average anti-virus gets compromised, Prevx does not. This is one sophisticated piece of software that in my mind will only get better.

If you are not comfortable with making occasional decisions about what operation to jail and what to let run, then Prevx is probably not for you. But then neither is a 3rd Party Firewall or anti-spyware with active protection. They ask the same kind of questions and a wrong answer can mean you let the bad guys have control or at the least render a program inoperative. One advantage of Prevx is that if you don't do a cleanup and just leave the potential malware jailed, no harm is done. If you have a good program that ceases to run or run properly, just place the jailed item into Probation and the program will be backup and running again.

If you are the kind of person, that gets squeamish about installing and installing programs and/or you've never heard of Safe Mode, System Restore or you have but you don't know how to use these features, then you are a novice and I would not recommend Prevx. If, on the other hand, you are not a PC novice; You are not an avid gamer; you have at least a 2.4Ghz single core processor with at least 512MB of RAM on an XP machine and you'll read the Prevx tutoral, then you owe it to yourself to try out Prevx 2.0 and make up your own mind. Programs like Prevx are the future of malware protection today.

After downloading the free version of PrevX2 and having it freeze up my system, I used the PrevX uninstall tool mentioned in comment #44. It works! http://info.prevx.com/removaltool.asp
Thanks, MStreich, for the tip.

It writes file material the size of a small novel in your system registry even after it has been uninstalled! Even stripping out all of this material after a normal uninstall leaves three entries, to which access is denied (cannot delete them for love or money! These three files constitute the components of their Rootkit analyzer.) The only way to guarantee removal of these three last entries is via a System Restore. I tried using Cleanse Uninstaller and the Windows Uninstaller (in Control Panel) and neither were able to rid the system of these last three files.
