One of the worst programs I've ever used. Slowed down my computer and I'm still trying to recover.

This program has done serious damage to my data. First it has cuased problems with internet explorer; second and most importantly, it caused the destruction of irreplacable files on my computer with its registry backup function.

I had decided to create a back up on my registry on my desktop and gave it a name, thinking it would only be one file; I was not impressed when it created multiple files that cluttered my desktop so I moved them all into a folder. However, I realized it cannot use the recovery files anymore if they weren't in the same folder. This could have been simply undone by moving the files back to the desktop but I decided simply to remove the recovery point off the list of recovery points using the program.... unfortunately it removed all files from my desktop that weren't links or executive files... all .txt, and file folders! the horror...

In summary, it destroyed some 30 files on my destop.... I've used file recovery software to save 4 of them, but the rest appear to be lost forever... thanks you for destroying my data, Elcor, with your sloppy programming.

I have tried quite a few similar utilities which are supposed to speed up your PC. Improvement from any of them has been marginal at best. This is the first I have tried that actually delivers by a wide margin. It's easy to use, very intuitive. I like the way it walks you through each operation and into the next until all are done. I had no problems installing. I like everything about this product. Well done.

Unbelievable that anyone would give this a thumbs-up. Most of this kind of software (as a category) does more harm than good, and/or only imposes minor 'tweaks' you can do yourself manually.

Just in case anyone reads this after-the-fact. I installed it, scanned, etc. Of course it found a bunch of inconsequential stuff but basically did nothing. In fact, I think the system ran worse afterwards.

I uninstalled and restored to previous state.

Mike, thanks for answering, I only have 1.62 ram available but I think it's more then that. I have a meeting to talk to HP and have them go through it with me because it's just too slow, even typing this right now it doesn't show the letters right away when I type and there are one after another (not respondings) happening as I try to work on things. I will look at all of the rest and report back. I don't have the software for my av installed yet. It came with Nortons Internet but I uninstalled it and I am going to install Norton Antivirus 2009. It
s suppose to be much better then the 2008 and the software that I have to run doesn't work with avira or others I am told!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Are you saying you have two versions of Paint Shop Pro on your computer? An

@32
Unfortunately, you're wrong. It created a Windows System restore as you can tell by the darkening on the screen and the blue Windows restore box. You do need the program to re-install the backup files however.

For those of you mentioning CCleaner....I'm not knocking the program, but all this basically does is remove thousands of MRU, bag, and Shell\Bag keys from the registry. Perform one operation after running CCleaner, and those thousand entries it just removed are back. That's just how Windows works.

To #34, #69. Running two anti-virus programs at the same time causes problems. In my case it prevented me from setting up an Internet connection. So, if you are running an anti-virus program, including one that came with your computer, BE SURE that the Windows anti-virus that is part of XP or Vista is disabled. Some manufacturers forget to do this.

In the optimize menu, I cannot tell which button state is "on" and which is "off". One has the button very dark with the text dark. The other state has light text with a lighter button. At first I thought the lighter text/button was off... but only the darker button and text can be clicked. I am unsure, so can someone confirm what is on and what is off?

Installed this SW on two very different mashines: XP pro SP3 and Vista Home

After the first execution I got puzzled:

On BOTH mashines
- the quick scan showed Found Problems: 100
- Compact/Defrag your registry showed exactly the same amount of registry memory to be defragt
- Protect your PC showed 1427 malignant ActiveX
- The Startup Manager Total Records: 6507

Exactly the same info from two very different PC's !!!

Well, maybe I should read the manual again .... :)

Installed Premium Booster on XP sp3 with no problem, decided to test it, did a registry backup as a precaution, and did the one click optimization. Rebooted, didn't notice much difference in anything, went to install a program, and found I no longer had admin privileges. So I used the undo option in Premium Booster ( very unintuitive interface, so I had problems finding it ) and upon rebooting, got blue screen, config_list_fail. Three times, same blue screen, using Safe Mode, Last Known Good and start normally. Just finished restoring a backup, luckily it ran this morning, so I didn't lose too much from today. Needless to say, I am glad this is no longer on my computer.

being a service tech I have had the opportunity to use products like this in the past, I tried it and did not like it, not very many options and little user control = big trouble

one of the main rules of computer repair NEVER let your software do your thinking for you.

Take a Norton product for example, Norton Windoctor, as it checks for errors it chooses what it feels is the best option(s) to fix the problem, so if you have a registry error pointing to c:\setup.exe, which doesn't exist this program will locate all the setup.exe's on the drive, and associate the reg error with the first setup.exe it finds, which might be c:\you goofed this up\setup.exe

anyway to make a long story short, use any "optimizing" programs with extreme caution, and watch and check EVERYthing, if you don't know what your doing, DON'T DO ANYTHING

The ELCOR guys are gonna hate me but the ones from IOBIT will love me.
Following to the teeth #4's tip (Ashraf)I followed the link to Raymond.cc and copied the info (scroll down a good stretch).
Then I downloaded the free offer of ASC and installed without any problems (I'm on XP SP2). Once opened ASC, I clicked on UPGRADE and pasted the info mentioned before and .....voilá......I got myself the 3.1.1 PROFESSIONAL version for free, formally confirmed and working without any hitches.
I did a scan and it found quite a few more issues than the scan done by PB just an hour earlier. The ASC is by far a more comprehensive program than PB, its like going from points A to B in a VW Beatle or a RR Silver Cloud : both do the job ....... but how!
Many thanks to ASHRAF, his input (and Mike's) is becoming here at GAOTD almost a must read, like it used to be the invaluable, knowledgeable and distinguished FUNKER's that I'm missing a lot.
Thank you GAOTD and all its staff.

Last time this program was installed, and given away, it recognized its own files as a trojan, and after a more accurate look at the files (NIS), it recognized a Back-Door Trojan placed in one of the DLL files of this program, you would think that they would make it not recognize their own virus (*Grin*). WILL NOT DOWNLOAD AGAIN! So much for Safe Software GAOTD!

I don't know much about these programs but registry cleaner was fast and the defragment was very quick too. Much faster than the one Windows has. I didn't fid it clear if this is for 31 days trial version or forever mine because on first window said 31 days and then for register it asks about registration key which I did not get. So I'm not sure. Thanks to all that make comments and to GAOTD.

Even though it's weekend tomorrow and you'll be getting another commercial quality arcade game from the game giveaway project, I've decided to post more games because it's Christmas.

You'll find another flight sim called Wings of Fury 2, Boulder Rocks a boulder dash clone, an excellent 3D tetris remake called Trismania and a match three with an Egyptian flavour called Cartouche. Follow the link below for details of each game, some videos, and of course download links:

Installed & run on Win XP Pro SP3. It seems OK & you might want to run it once a week, but not every time you boot. Basically it is a registry cleaner. It does have a few optional optimizations, but you only need to do these once.

I understand the missing registry data or blank entries. But what's up with all the "corrupted" entries and what does this program do to correct them? Both issues have me concerned.

Thanks.

OK, I downloaded, installed and ran this software.

It found over 400 issues with my registry. Really?! I use Norton WinDoctor - notorius for finding bad registry entries - and it has always worked well for me. So, how does this new ware find so many things wrong with my registry?

Well, in checking out one of the issues, it doesn't do a very smart job of fixing the issue - it just deletes the entire registry folder of the one item in question. That's nut! One registry entry in an application's folder is incorrect (DefaultIcon) and the whole folder has to go?

I'm sticking with my licensed, registered, working copies of WinDoctor. I just don't trust many other registry "cleaners", let alone free ones so heavily advertised on every download webpage on the 'Net.

WARNING!!

I saw many positive feed back and installed it.. It found some errors and wanted to fix it.. I said `Go ahead and fix them`
it fixed them alright.. Now, some of my programs and the most important one. SONAR Producer E. won't work.. And I was in the middle of a project and my deadline was on Tuesday. I get this error code 45. Somehow I managed to run the program and my MENU options are gone.. I'm not kidding.. I've been trying to find a solution since this morning.. nada.. Even system restore didn't help.
So I'm left with re-installing windows.. I can't even uninstall SONAR because I get an error..

I'm not giving thumbs up or down.. I know tis happened because of this software but maybe I said yes to someting I shouldn't have said.

But this kind of software should be failsafe..or idiot proof..like my self..

Please becareful!!!

I dl'd this before and I liked it very much, as it solved a couple of problems for me. However, after a couple of weeks it asked me if I wanted to upgrade. I mistook that for 'update', said yes, then it told me to uninstall before installing the new upgrade. After I uninstalled the free version, I was asked to pay for the upgrade. :-(

Long story short, be sure you only allow 'updates' not 'upgrades' if you want to keep it free.

I had the same problem, SOLUTION - in Vista-Start, Control Panel,System and Maintenance,System, Advanced system settings in Tasks,Settings under Performance,Data Execution Prevention, Turn on DEP for all...I select, Add..., find Premium Booster file, open it, click on exe file(the one, which looks like programs icon), click OK, close all windows, done...there is, probably, shorter way to get there, but this is how I did it, helped me...wish you the same. I had this problem on desktop 64x Vista HP, didn't have on laptop 32x Vista, go figure.

You mean like comments #5 and #6?

Sure would have liked some links to those "independent reviews"

I've been working with the registry since 1995.

Yes, there are some registry cleaners that break file associations and remove valid CLSID, Interface, and Typelib entries in the registry.

So, the first thing you want to do before running registry cleaner/fixer/optimizer ,etc is to create a Restore Point so you don't hose your system.

I can personally vouch for this program and it's effectiveness. Another feature is that it adds ad sites and know malware sites to the Restricted Zone in Internet explorer. Open IE, choose Tools > Internet Options, click on the security tab, select the Restricted Sites icon, then click the Sites button. Another added benefit of Premium Booster.

Very good software even though on SOFTPEDIA it got just a FAIR user rating (2.2/5)!!

It was given earlier last 07/27/2007 (92% thumbs up, version 2.2) and last 05/03/2008 (67% thumbs up, version 2.8).

Be careful when you update the program because last time I did it I don't know why but I lost the GAOTD key licence and the SW turned out to be a FREE TRIAL version.

Don't know whether to install it again or not as I already installed in my PC WinUtilities which was given earlier here for free a few weeks ago.

FREE (and maybe even better) ALTERNATIVES:

- TUNE UP UTILITIES 2007:

(remove space at beginning)

- ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE (formerly Advanced WindowsCare): very good!

(remove space at beginning)

- SWEEPI 5.4

- FREE WINDOW REGISTRY REPAIR 1.5 (very good)

- ARGENTE REGISTRY CLEANER Registry 1.5.2.1 (EXCELLENT)

- QUICKSYS REGDEFRAG 2.1 (VERYGOOD)

- GLARY UTILITIES

But the best way to dramatically improve the performance and speed of your PC is just to defragment your hard drive at least once a month, with SMART DEFRAG 1.03 or AUSLOGICS DISK DEFRAG or JK DEFRAG, and then use in sequence the following FREE APPLICATIONS:

- REGSEEKER
- CLEAN MY REGISTRY
- REGSCRUB
- CCLEANER
- ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE (formerly Advanced WindowsCare)
- FREE WINDOW REGISTRY REPAIR 1.5
- NT REGISTRY OPTIMIZER, a registry compactor that improves system performance by removing any slack space that may be left from previously modified or deleted keys without changing the contents of the registry in any way.

Check out also the instructions of this two threads:

But REMEMBER!!

Never use any registry cleaner program that:

1. Does not allow total user choice
2. Does not create backups of registry data deleted as stand *.reg format
3. Does not have a guide to advise about some of the "issues" found.

Alternatively a great way to avoid the REGISTRY CLUTTER, using all the registry cleaner set out above, is to install a VIRTUAL OPERATING SYSTEM in your PC because it allows your exsting OS to become a Host into another Guest operating system and run it in a special environment that does not mess up the REGISTRY of your existing Host OS if things go wrong with the GUEST one.

Since users can switch between the two OS any time they want to, the VIRTUAL OPERATING SYSTEM is also a great way to make Windows systems impervious to virus attack and spyware and it’s also capable to automatically sanitize all web activities and surfing history without any hassle.

Of course to do so users need a PC that has enough RAM, hard drive space, graphics power, etc so as to handle both the HOST OS and the GUEST one.

For more information about the VIRTUAL OS see also:

Installed and registered without any problems on Vista 32-bit Home Premium. I installed and activated as Administrator. It does not show it as a trial version and does not appear to be limiting the repairs to 20 as some of you have indicated. I just followed the directions in the "Read Me" file that most of you don't even read before installing. I think some of you just like to complain.

Has registration been difficult for anyone else on Windows XP - I installed, uninstalled and tried again, I still have the same problem as #35 and #45? Any resolution yet?

This program caused me to lose my registration to Spy Sweeper. It reverted to one that expired. I had to do a restore to get it back like it should be. Be very careful with this one.
