Dear users,
The developer has resolved the issue with activation codes. It was the mail server problem. Please try requesting the key again. The registration data is in the Readme file.

Still can't get to the password. this is the worst "Giveaway" in 5 or so years that I have been following GOTD.

My prior post is still awaiting "moderation". Guess you will not post this one either!

Software looks great. With that being said MSTech cannot seem to send a license key despite several attempts on my part. It's not worth much without the license key and the time to activate will expire probably before I get a license key.

Has anyone succeeded? I filled out the form with more information than comfortable. It took me to a download link for the license. What downloaded was a zip file that contained a file named license.mz_lic whatever the heck that is. Google sure didn't know.

Reply   |   Comment by Lighter  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Lighter, just close the program, put the file license.mz_lic in the install directory. When you will start the program again it will be activated.

detenova, Thank you. That worked fine.

The activation key is another zip download. Unzip the key and direct the activation pop up to that file.

Agreed, checks are outdated, but, maybe it'll make it easier paying for pizza.

Dear Sirs,
in my country (Croatia, EU), checks are history.
Everything is done with Visa, Diners, American and Mastercard.
Sincerely, Robert.

this might be useful for some people that live in areas where it is allowed to print your own bank cheques and where they actually still use them but my issues with today's giveaway are different.
The version we have today (Simple) is listed on their website but in the version comparison page it has no entry so no telling what the difference is between this and Basic
http://mstech-co.com/mz-cheque-print-versions-pricing/
The "Basic" version is already very limiting so what more have they ripped out for the simple version, would be nice to know.
Software is not useful for me so won't rate it with thumbs

Hi,
I think 10 years ago this software would have been really useful, however now I don't think so..here in the country I live the only people who use cheques are businesses...maybe. Most accounting and buying is done online.. not sure how this helps anyone. The pricing structure of the software is very expensive ....do you take a cheque ?

When you compare prices from mstech website to prices above on the various options on the program some of them do not match ex. Professional version above is listed as $349.90 yet the website shows it for $245.00.

I looked into printing my own checks a couple of years ago and bought the software. Then found out that most banks require that you print your checks on special security paper. This paper costs more than if you bought the checks already printed. I then just bought the pre-printed checks.

Reply   |   Comment by JIM  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+13)

JIM, I agree. A few years back this software might have been feasible. I have to use checks to pay my rent. I have to wonder if this software would print legal checks for the USA since by the spelling and terms this is not an US company. I am not sure what the rules are currently for self-printed checks since the last time I printed checks was about 20 years ago. Even though the program is free today for GOTD, the program costs are too high for personal users, maybe businesses would find the program profitable. Perhaps this program is worthwhile for other countries, I just can't think it is worthwhile for the US home users.

I pay bills electronically, but use paper checks to pay bills for elderly relatives.
Last time I checked, additional checks are available FREE from banks (in the U.S.) including FREE shipping.

Getting pretty fed up. Have tried three times to get the activation code, using two different email addresses and domains. NO key after waiting hours. Would definitely give this software a try; only use checks occasionally, and paying for books of checks and/or handwriting them, is tedious.

Obviously this can only be used over the internet as, unless things have changed when I was a commercial check printer, any check bank numbers must be created with magnetic ink so that the bank's machines can decipher the information. Am I wrong?

Reply   |   Comment by unkabob  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

unkabob, in the US, most banks allow online deposit with a cell phone app. You sign in, take clear pictures of the front and back of the check, and the deposit is either accepted or pended for review. A well-printed, clear check with OCR-readable routing number, account number, and check number, and a clearly readable dollar amount, is likely to be accepted. Therefore, this software will work fine for that purpose. Your question about magnetic ink may raise challenges for this software if banks do not also use OCR these days. I do not know the facts. I would definitely NOT like to have a check sent back because it was not accepted for deposit. That would cause plenty of bank fees very, very quickly. Does anyone know the answer?

Reply   |   Comment by AnAceBuyer  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

unkabob, you are correct! It's called MICR toner. Make sure you buy the correct toner folks or your checks will be returned.

Reply   |   Comment by Joe Schmoe  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

unkabob, You are wrong. That is not true. It is *NOT* a legal requirement that the routing and account numbers be printed with magnetic ink.

It will make processing the check easier, but it is not a requirement.

Joe Schmoe, Not true! It is not a legal requirement for routing and account numbers to be printed with magnetic ink.

This software would be illegal here in New Zealand, and banks charge a cheque fee. Also, they can be used to commit fraud... sadly, while I might use it as a novelty to have some (legal) fun... I cannot see how anyone can use this software.

Ootje, this software is not really suitable for that especially since you can not create new cheque templates. You better use paint.net for that

Sorry, why would I need to "scan my cheque leaves" I have a chequebook, it has cheque leaves, I write a cheque, I use all the leaves and the bank issues me with a new chequebook.

Kestrel...I think these days there's not a lot of practical use for the software as you said...having said that, I've got a downright wicked, evil, and no doubt perverse sense of humour...I think I going to have some unintended fun with this ;-)

This seems a very antiquated concept for software in this day and age, I genuinely can not remember the last time I used a cheque, or indeed received one. It may be brilliant but I can envisage no use for it. Sorry.

John, you are entitled to your opinion, as am I. Since my bank no longer issues cheques, as I have since learned, I think it is a valid comment.

Reply   |   Comment by Kestrel  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Kestrel, Have to agree with this, in fact in many countries it is not even allowed to print out your own bank cheques
