hussein, Quite true that it's no longer free, but only requires a minimal "donation" to get it.

Anybody ever use SUMo (Software Update Monitor)? I've been using the Free version of this for quite some time, and it does a great job finding every piece of software on your system that needs updating.

Since it's the free version, you have to run it manually, and also doesn't provide you with automatic updates either, but in my opinion that is a good thing when dealing with GotD software.

I run it about once a week just to see if there is anything with updates and then go any download the updates for whatever it is that I want to update. I can tell SUMo to ignore the software I don't want to update so that it doesn't bug me about it any more...

The biggest problem i see is automatically updating programs that fall under the usual giveaway conditions - like no update or else - then it's too late, damage done. Good luck finding older installers, there are some sites that offer these but not all programs are available and not all versions of them.

So you really should make sure that you know beforehand which programs you can and could update and which not, so that you don't invalidate for example giveaway offers (or any other program with version limited licenses). Todays offer allows for selecting all at once or only specific items it found an update for, don't make the mistake to go for all just because it's convenient. I like to look for a changelog FIRST before installing a patch for whatever program, since there might be changes one doesn't like or there is something else to it.

Last thing, the program uses filepumaDOT com to look for updates, so if you don't want to install any program, you could aswell manually visit the site and look for updates or any other similar site out there.

NOTHING is automatic in SUP Software Update Pro until YOU select what programs to install and or update, then click to have it go ahead.

Who cares if something is lifetime or not? There is no lifetime! You are going to upgrade your pc at some point. A year is a lifetime unless you are still on Windows 95 and using the Netscape browser. There will always be something new in a year anyway...

Some programs work just fine in a particular version, and updating/upgrading ruins their functions.

Regardless, NOTHING is automatic in SUP Software Update Pro until YOU select what programs to install and or update, then click to have it go ahead.

This is for 1 year only it seems which isn't bad but when many offerings are for a "lifetime" it is not great either. The main problem with this program though is that it does not accurately find NEW versions sometimes. Maybe they have improved but for MANY years this program would find what they'd call "new" programs only to check and find they were not the most current versions available. The short of it is this does not, (or did not) work so well over the years and should definitely be looked at carefully when used to avoid as others stated remove free GiveAwayoftheDay programs or even trying to install outdated software.

Downloaded and installed on Windows 7 Ultimate, without problem. Did not find all the software that needed
updating. My Iobit program found a couple of other softwares that were installed at the same time as the
updater program "Malware Hunter and PC Booster", so i let iobit delete them.

Then was taken to Glary's webpage, where a half price license is offered for Software updater pro, with just over
2 hour time limit to purchase a 1 year license to run on 3 PC's. Is it worth me buying the licence for $9.98 as it also
only cost the same for future renewal. It does sound like a bagain. What do you think.

Regards
Vince

Not bad, can be used like FREE Ninite and FREE PatchMyPC to install and update a whole suite of chosen programs.

Sometimes misses whether or not a program is already installed, even after it installs it itself, and sometimes fails to install because, well, we just have to uninstall something in order to install the update, and does nto caution about programs that are trials.

Nice that this can save the downloaded installers for later manual reinstallation.

Does not work at all in the non-paid-for version, unlike previous iterations that let you install one program at a time from it's list, so it's paid-for to get any function, or nothing.

When this license is over, buy a new license, or uninstall it because it has become a functionless brick.

Three programs should receive an update:

WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 8.5.1
If I do that I will lose my license.
-------------------------------------------------- -----------------
Mozilla FireFox (32bit v20.01). Works as it should, I do not want to update.
-------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------
K-Lite Codec Pack Standard 12.4.4 with H265 Video Codec. The following K-Lite Codec Pack Standard 12.?.? apparently does not have H256 video codec.
---------------------
Regarding WinX Video Converter Deluxe 5.153
"You are using the latest WinX HD Video Coverter Deluxe". It looks like there is no UPDATE for that Video Converter anymore.
So, everything stays as it is.

Why not just download Glary Utilities for free, it does same thing...

[ jpmalonesr ],

Glary Utilities update feature manually bring you to FileHippo to download updates for installed programs, but does not offer to install programs you do not already have..

SUP Software Update Pro lets you select from a suite of programs on-screen, as well as it identifying programs you have installed that may have an update available, and then click once and it then gets them all and installed them.

Does anyone know whether you can choose which software to update or choose individual software not to update? Like others have mentioned, there are GOTD software jewels that may stop working if updated.

ALL software update programs let you select which to update.

NO software update programs warn when an update will invalidate a prior license.

Why would you want another program running in the background just to tell you that you need to update? When all of your programs tell you anyway.

Reply   |   Comment by Perry Smith  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Perry Smith, it download and automatically installs the updates for you. A lot of software does not check for updates.

Reply   |   Comment by Roger  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Roger,
It says "provides notifications and information on available software update", not "download and automatically installs" (thank goodness!).
To my mind, since Windows 10 updates and nags have been the bane of PC users' lives, so I for one will not be searching them out, "because", as they so rightly say on OldVersion.com, "newer is not always better!"

Reply   |   Comment by BAW30s  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+22)

BAW30s, it does download and automatically install any software that you choose to let it update. In the update tab, it shows the updates it has found. You just select what you want to update and then click on Install and then it will automatically download and install the updated versions.

It doesn't have to run in background. If you go to the Settings tab, you can uncheck "Run Software Update when Windows starts." If you do that, it will only run when you manually launch it.

I'm not sure sure why you mentioned Windows 10. This software searches for new versions of limited range of software. It does not search for updates to Windows 10.

Fair enough - I just interpreted "automatically download and install" as meaning that it did it all without requesting confirmation, whereas you meant it's automatic after the user gives permission.
I only mentioned Windows 10 because it is forever updating and so getting updates on the other software too is for many users I know just another nuisance. This may apply less to us on GAOTD.

Reply   |   Comment by BAW30s  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

TK, you get to manually choose what programs you want to update. If there's a program that you don't want to update, you just don't select it and it won't be updated. Also, you need to realise, that just like with any software updater that silently updates software, it has a very limited database of software that it can update. As a a result it will not check for updates, for the majority of software given away here.

I don't think it will offer updates which are not compatible with the currently installed operating system.

This is a program that could in theory 'remove' all those wonderful giveaways that you have collected from GOTD. Most of the 'keepers' that i have collected have 'lifetime licences' as long as I do not try and update them.
I am speaking from a bad experience with a similar 'software updater'.....NOT this program which tried to update every installed program I had. I actually do like most Glarysoft software, but I am not prepared to take the risk in this case.
Pass.

Yes, it's hard to take responsibility for what programs we do nto want to update, and no updater warns about licenses becoming invalid, or features being lost.

That's our job to monitor, I suggest using post it notes on the edge of our monitor, kind of like an external brain.

John H, PatchMyPC dos not try to update every program unless you let it. It gives you a list to choose from, where you can untick what you don't want to update.

I use it and it works very well, so I echo Gideon to ask what makes this offering better then PatchMyPC for the average user.

FREE Ninite and FREE PatchMyPC and PAID-FOR SUP Software Update Pro.

They ALL install as well as update.

PatchMyPC has more programs in it's list, but can be brutal to sort through and catch all the programs you do not want to update.

The EACH have a different suite of programs that they are aware of.

The EACH fail to install or update some stuff, we then have to update manually, or uninstall and reinstall manually.

NONE of them warn about invalidating prior licenses, so keep a post it note on the edge of your screen as to which programs you never ever want to update, and hunt for them every single time.

PatchMyPC and SUB can save the new installers for later re-use.
