Dear Users,

When you purchase a FastMove license, the license unlocks the program forever, so that you can use it for as long as you want. As for the expiry date, it's set to show you the period during which you will be able to download free updates. Once the license expires, you can continue using your version of the program, but you will need to extend your license to continue getting updates and have access to email support.

Nicholas_GOTD, In the case of copying files to a new computer, can the existing license used today be used to register a second copy (on the new computer) after the Oct 31 expiry date?

Too bad I couldn't attach a screenshot here.
Software is powerful enough to recognize old and new PC on online migration, in my case, WiFi
There's a little concern remain for both PC mention in Readme.txt. I get activated on New PC, but Old PC doesn't show any activation screen.
Do I have to activate on my Old PC side too?

From the "Readme.txt" file:
After installing the software on present computer, it says:
==============
Enter your license key and click "Activate".
Repeat on PC 2 with the same license key.
...
You have to install and activate it before the Giveaway offer for the software is over.
==============
So it's no good to download the software now, anticipating moving to a new computer a year from now. I need to have both computers in front of me right now (or at least by the end of October).
Which is perfectly fine and reasonable. Just don't want people who don't read the details to get their hopes up.

Got it installed, got my license key, but there is no option for entering the license key. The only available options are preparing either the old or new computer for transfer, help, or cancel. Hitting help does absolutely nothing and of course cancel just exits the program.
As I don't have a need to transfer anything right now, I am not going to go through the process of prepping my system for a transfer and hope that maybe somewhere within there I get the option to enter my code.

Is the move from PC to PC a destructive move, or is it more like a copy operation? I do not want to remove anything from my source computer.

I'd like to transfer data -- mostly photos and videos -- between a PC, a Chromebook, a Linux laptop, and an Android smartphone. Is this possible?

I see no reason to use such software, I always do a clean install period.

FastMove 2019 has some interesting & potentially useful features, but as you might expect, they don’t talk about the negative aspects. Transferring data over your home network can be slower than USB, e.g. using UASP & especially USB 3 gen 2, and is much slower than Thunderbolt. And if you’re running win10, you can usually just restore a backup or clone the disk from your current PC/laptop to the new one. If I was going to migrate from a win7 PC to a new one running win10, I’d 1st consider or try upgrading the current PC to win10, though I wouldn’t activate win10 there, because the odds are better that any software compatibility issues would be dealt with that way. Microsoft’s been working on that tech for years now. Then I’d transfer that copy of win10 to the new PC.

That said, there are potential Gotchas… You can’t upgrade or transform a 32-bit version of Windows to 64-bit – in that case you might be better off with FastMove. Booting Windows [or any OS, e.g. Linux] may be done using Legacy or UEFI BIOS setups, and you cannot clone the system disk or restore a backup to a Nvme drive and have it boot – if there’s a BIOS mismatch [Legacy vs UEFI] or you’re moving to a Nvme drive, a migration utility on a bootable USB stick from Macrium, Paragon, AOMEI etc. might be needed. Software that uses a hardware ID as part of it’s activation DRM won’t automatically work on different hardware, and in fact, some software will initiate a sort of failsafe, adding registry entries so that software will Never activate (!). If you’re moving from win7/8 to win10, there’s stuff that win10 just doesn’t have, so you can’t copy or migrate those features, software, &/or settings.

mike,
"If you’re moving from win7/8 to win10, there’s stuff that win10 just doesn’t have,"
This is a good reason for not upgrading if you do not have to. That is why I stay on XP.

mike, Just finished doing a migration from Win 7 64 to 10 with a colleague. Brand new pre-built unit running Windows 10 already. Could not clone old disc because A: did not want all the programs on it B: Cloning previously using a "major player" transfer medium buggered some video files and wanted no part of that at all C: new computer already had licensed Win 10 Pro 64 bit on it. Worked great using a crossover LAN cable.
I agree with some of the "gotchas" but that same thing will happen using this or clone..hardware mismatch conundrum.

Scroll up this page and see the advertisement just below the FastMove counter. Then compare to this below and find out if there is a contradiction there.

Q: Can I transfer data using FastMove if my computer is offline?
A: No. FastMove transfers data over the network so both of your computers need to have an active connection.

Q: When I migrate software using FastMove, does it also migrate license information?
A: No. Software licensing works in such a way that a license can't be migrated to another PC unless you have a multiple-PC license or your software supports license deactivation and reactivation. We recommend you to save your license keys and make sure you can reactivate your apps before you perform software migration.

Frank, By being offline, that also entails your local network. If my local network is offline, no I cannot talk to my printer or other computer. So yes, both computers must be online on the network.

No criticism of FastMove software intended, but why not just use a USB PC to PC transfer cable? I just moved all my data files last week while "retiring" my ancient 32-bit Win 10 machine onto a new 64-bit Win 10 PC.

While it wasn't blazingly fast (a USB 3.0 version would be faster - my old cable's USB 2.0), it worked fine, no babysitting required, and the software loads onto both PC's right from the cable itself and works well. Just copy/paste what you want copied or moved and walk away.

I've used that simple cable (with the self-loading transfer software built-in) for many years now. If you have several files to move and the PC's are within 6 feet of each other, it's much handier than switching thumb drives back and forth. I figure the cable paid for itself years ago.

Just my $.02 worth.

Hi Dave , I think what you are doing is excellent way to move files, but does it work on software?
Small shareware type software may not have problem, but big executable software like MS-Word, OFFICE may not work at new transferred PC

I installed, and activated.

However, the expiration date is shown as "2019-10-31".

If this is licensed permanently (with no updates after one year), per the Readme.txt, why is there an expiration in the information shown by the application?

casper improved, See Post #3. The expiration date is for Updates only. That's my understanding of the post.

How it is possible to transfer 32 bit programs to a 64 bit o.s. as suggested ?

Reply   |   Comment by Eddie  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Eddie, 32 bit programs run on a 64 bit machine just fine. Pretty much always has. That's why you have two Program Files directories. The one called Program Files (x86) is where 32 bit programs go.

I get stuck, when I try to type the license key to register the program. It can't be done. It's ridiculous!
Am I doing something wrong?

So, the 2 PCs / laptops can be connected to the same wifi network, for the software to do its thing (i.e. no ethernet cable necessary) ? And no Internet connection necessary to execute the software ?

Someone once said they dont trust this company as your moving your files to their server then to yours , who knows what happens to your data. if it was direct like Laplink then no problem, but its not something to recommend considering this company isnt very popular or trusted..And I agree with they said.

pj, I don't know where you got that info from, but this was given away back in August 2019 on another site and the developer popped in and answered questions.
One asked "does this transfer via internet, as others have claimed, or local network?" Answer "FastMove will only use local network for transfer, no internet."" You need internet access to register to get activation code, but that's it." Same activation code works on both PCs.

So to activate today's software "FastMove 2019," we have to connect two PC's to enter activation code, not just one PC.

register the software at https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/fastmove/get-key/ using the email and activation key provided.
Connect the two computers and access the main interface.
On PC 1, click on the "Register" button in the bottom left corner, then select the “I have a license key” radio button. Enter your license key and click "Activate".
Repeat on PC 2 with the same license key.

Reply   |   Comment by jugem  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+22)

jugem, Did you mean the software has to be installed on both PCs today, and on both activated with the same username & password ?

When you say 'connect the 2 computers, do you mean by ethernet cable, or by wifi ? (not exactly clear on what they mean by 'connect the 2 computers').

Thanks

Reply   |   Comment by Louis  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

jugem, If you don't have the 2nd PC to migrate to yet, this software is then useless? That makes no sense.
