THIS IS HORRIBLE SOFTWARE!

I none of the people that reviewed this have actually USED the product!

My video runs about 2.5 seconds behind the Audio. You can't even look at a vid3eo without getting SICK.

I've tried other Plato software that was done nothing but screw up my computer or just be crappy software.

BAD COMPANY!

I downloaded it the day it was free and registered with the number that popped up. (as described in #4). But i didn't have time to try it out then. So, now a couple of days latter, it says I can rip only 15 minutes with the "free trial version". How is this a giveaway? Is it supposed to function as full-version only on the very day it is a "giveaway"?

O.k., I gave the program another chance at converting my DVD. For some reason, everything seemed to go smothly. But then when I played the output file, the audio was out of sync, and when the movie reached 25 minutes, the audio turned off and the video turned in to a picture slide show of the scenes at 1 minute intervals.

Does not record. My experience similar to 15 minute review.

As to me, I prefer this DVD ripper, it can rip DVDs to many video formats (almost all), with the only program, I can rip DVDs for my Zune and my girl's iPod. Works well with dvds from Disney, WB, Paramout, etc.

#131, TK, the DMCA is relevant to me because I do live in the US. Consider yourself fortunate that at least regarding this issue, your government isn't as corrupt as ours. Despite your lame attempt at personal insults, Extreme Picture Finder and similar software isn't something I have much use for, but there are legitimate and non-pornographic uses for such software, and if I encounter a situation where it will save me time, I'll use it.

I came back here today to see what others say about this software - Yikes! All you people who are saying this works great for you: I'd really (seriously) be interested in finding out your system details. Have you watched one of your rips to the middle or end and not seen any sync issues? The two systems I tried this on are pretty stout both memory and processor wise and all attempts result in really bad syncing issues. For me, the search continues....

Hempman and TK, where have you been for the last decade? The DMCA is complex. It divides protection technologies into two types--access control, and copy control. It is illegal to circumvent access control. Copy control may be circumvented under the Fair Use doctrine. Ultimately, the courts decide which category a given technology falls under. There are no legal protected-DVD rippers in the US, the MPAA always wins lawsuits against distributors.

Your arguments are completely without merit, and are backwards. Protected-DVD rippers are widely used to make illegal copies. Extreme Picture Finder, on the other hand, does absolutely nothing illegal, immoral, or unethical.

I downloaded the software and installed it in my desktop and notebook PCs before the expiration time. A pop-up windows appeared after the installtion process containing the user name and license number to use in registering the software. After fumbling for a long time to try to register the software because I could not find out how to register it until I read some of the commments above, I input the required information into the form provided. Lo and behold, it said "SORRY, invalid license name or license number". What's going on here? I used the license name and number provided to register and all I got was SORRY. Is this some kind of a joke? This is just a waste of time!

In many countries, it's perfectly legal to convert any media to any other form of media, for personal use, so long as the person keeps the original and doesn't lend, sell, hire, rent etc. any copies they've made.

So far as the Fair Use Act well the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 replaced it & therefore it is illegal to make backup copies of what you bought.

Personally I don't care what ya do... I think if ya bought it you should be able to do what you like. Hey I'm from a time when the Fair Use Act allowed us to makes copies.

Horrible interface, user unfriendly software. There are way better rippers out there.

Tried ripping one DVD to 3GP for my cellphone and it froze before the task could be completed. Tried the same task using A One DVD ripper given by GAOTD a few days ago ... A One finished the task for me and I have transferred the 3GP video to my cellphone. It plays very nicely.

Looks good for movie DVDs and I can (and will) use it. I'm looking for something that can cut single episodes out of collection DVDs and convert it directly to .avi and (of course) free from GOTD.

Registered it just fine. Ripping a Disc now for my Zune from Woot. Hope it is sync'd up Ok. My first attempt had the subtitles on. I ran through the DVD setup and turned off. Now it's ripping away. Seems to be ripping double speed. I didn't read any directions either...i hope that's normal!

If the audio is not sync'd it's back to using multiple utilities.

Ripping DVD’s is not a double standard when you already own the DVD. This perfectly allowable by law. It’s like copying songs from a CD to your MP3 player.

For those with questions about ripping DVD’s, particularly the pom pom shakers who are already shaking madly - If you own a DVD or CD or book, there are NO U.S. LAWS that prevents one from making copies for your own use. If you think that there are, provide a link to e legitiamte source - say, the U. S. Copyright office. There is even a grey area when it comes to trading copies with friends. If one can legitimately say that the trading is done for the purposes of education or art (a DVD club that critiques DVD releases, for example), that is covered under the Fair Use doctrine.


Except in Australia where there has never been any fair use legislation and it is INDEED ILLEGAL TO MAKE ANY COPIES OF ANYTHING YOU OWN including CDs DVDs hell it was never even legal make cassette tapes of your own LPs either, decades ago :p

I am one not to care about how people use this stuff. To each his own, but in response to #63.

The legal issue with these programs is THE DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT OF 1998. Which prohibits the circumvention of technological measures used by copyright owners to protect their works. For example, if a DVD contains copy protection, you have every right to make a copy of the content. However the problem is how you do it. If you circumvent Macrovision to rip the DVD you are violating the terms of the DMCA. The person who creates the software to do this however is usually safe, based on the technological advancement idea.

For me personally, do what ever you want ... I personally think the DMCA is the worse piece of law ever enacted with way too many legal gray areas to be of any real use. Which just ends up making litigious minded people drool with thoughts of grandeur and fortune.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but the audio gets out of sync, making the software of little use. Nice straightforward interface, but the audio sync problem puts this software in my rubbish bin.

If one owns a CD or DVD, then whatever one's reasons for making a copy, they are legitimate as long as one is not distributing them. Not one person has ever been arrested or fined for making copies of thier own DVDs/CDs.

Also, the Fair Use Doctrine is quite real, and quite strong. A member of a book club, school class, a satirist, or any other legitimate educational or artistic use is a completely legal reason under U. S. Law for making a copy. Not one person has ever been arrested for copying a book, CD or DVD for artistic or educational use.

Just because you fail to see the truth, bi gun, does not remove any veracity. Maybe if you put down the pom poms for a bit that you keep shaking around you might be able to see

I was able to install it and to register it after a bit. I had to stop the program first, then start it again before the area at bottom right appeared. Then I started trying to do what I want to do, convert one of my home made DVDs to .avi format. I've tried several programs for this, and have not been satisfied with the results. I thought I was doing it correctly, but after it was done, it had just ripped my video, and had done no converting. I'll fiddle with it till I figure out how to make it convert, and then, if it doesn't do a better job than some of the others I've tried, it's toast.

So far, it's the least intuitive of the programs, and the one with the least comprehensible "help" area. To the developers, back in the day, developers used to hire people who could explain how to do something, and these people wrote the instructions. It might cost a bit, but it might make your program usable.

I am able to install the zipped folder onto my PC, but when I attempt to unzip it, it says that the compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupt. When I try to manually extract the files, it says there is no content to extract.

I tried downloading a few times with the same results. Any suggestions? (I'm not terribly computer literate, so please go easy on me...)

Very Poor Software. The registration button I found by more luck than judgement.

The quality of the Rip is very grainy , and the sound seems lightyears out. Very poor.

To #48..lose the attitude. Its you're own mistake thats screwing you up, scroll down in the activation information box and copy the whole key, not just the first line that you see. Great job GAOTD, I love this site..and I for one will never complain about your software..as someone else said a freebie is always a positive! Quite annoying when I read someone complaining about it..especially when they give you guys/gals an attitude because their 2 ...umm.... "inexperienced" to know how to operate their computer. Cheers!

OK. Is it me? I finally got the registration window to open, did the paste and whatever. It came up and said its registerd, BUT, when I checked on the help page, it says it is NOT registered.
Wouldnt it be nice if giveaway and the product producers could get on the same page here? Either offer free or don't offer it period. This is the second program I have downloaded and the second that does not follow through on what it says. Would rather just do trial I guesss than to have to keep doing this.

Audio does not sync correctly!!! Another wasted ripper.

This works a lot better then A-One DVD Ripper. Video plays back super smooth. And it rips movies in half the time A One took to rip them. However, on Vista, it changes your colour scheme to basic while it rips movies , but that may be a good thing for the best quality it does on the video. Overall a great program, something I may consider buying a permanent license for because of the quality.

Am I just dumb? I cannot get this to work. I choose my format, open dvd file hit play, hit start and then it freezes. I am on vista. Do I need to run on compatibility mode or something? When i try to stop recording I get a TODO error. Please help.

This software is absolutely brilliant. It really makes up for yesterday.

I've been waiting for some feature similar to this for a while, freeware alternatives aside.

Those of you who don't see the 2 tiny buttons (’register’ and ‘Order it now’) - right under the big ‘Start’ button:

Set your screen resolution (be it temporarily) to at least 1024 by 768 !
(800x600)doesn't display the small buttons...

Excellent software, but you MUST look at the bottom-right hand corner of the help page for the registration button or you can get easily confused and frustrated. *hint hint* Anyway, GOTD outdid themselves on this one. I have a Zune and the software is (as indicated by the normal retail) quiet expensive. It has numerous capabilities and will be an awesome addition to my free software compliments of GOTD. :-)

I think that this program should have been able to use a file source input. It really wouldn't be a hard thing to add, maybe a .dll or two. I don't have a DVD drive so this is useless to me and i think that adding a file source option would eliminate that problem.

Registering was also hard, i think the account and settings should have been in the "readme.txt" because the little box didn't show all of the activation without scrolling down. Finding the register button was also hard, which is good and bad because atleast they didn't spam, "DO YOU WANT TO REGISTER NOW? HOW ABOUT NOW?".

Sorry for my spelling, my last line was "No problems registering".

Anyway, I figured out how to turn off the subtitles. You go into the DVD's menu and turn off the subtitles from there. LOL, it's that easy. It will still say that the subtitles are on, but there are none on the output file.

But with problems solved there are problems found... When my movie got to 20 minutes, the preview box went all fuzzy, started going pink and yellow, then froze. I think it might have something to do with my 700Mhz computer.

I do have to admire the speed of this converter. Really fast, even with my slow computer.
