What is unnecessary file? My disk space is not enough, but I'm just afraid that it will delete my useful data.

From what I've read, there are a variety of programs out there to do the job of Platinum Guard, and while certain programs work great for certain people, other's might find a different program to work excellently. Its all in the type of files your computer usage leaves lying around.

About rawn's comment, there was only one part about ccleaner, and someone asks if he is a salesman? Gimme a break, and read the entire freakin comment.

This is a place to post comments that people will find useful. I personally have found every comment on here either useful or purposeful except #s 7, 8, 10, 12, 13...just sayin cause those annoyed me.

My best friend is a major proponent of Ccleaner, and bugs me all the time to get it. (and numerous times I have refused) Personally, I recommend trying all of these and seeing which one does the best job for you, then hopefully one will catch your eye and you'll fall in love! =D if that doesn't happen then just kick someone and tell them to go make a good hard drive cleaner for ya.

Coincidentally, here is an option that no one has yet mentioned for getting more hard disk space: Get a memory upgrade! =D 500 gig external hard drive should keep you going for a while.

Well, CCleaner is for "basic use".
In fact, CCleaner is not have bad. I always use that program.

The main things I use it for is both clearing out Internet junk and registry left overs.

It's not half bad... really!

Here's the thing, if you like "simple", stick with CCleaner.

If you like fancy tools and all that, then stick with WinUtilities. Other great programs are Ashampoo Optimizer 5 and Glary Utilities as mentioned from other people.

Hope that helped!

#9: "A program that cleans out the GigaBytes of data that Windows-Update leaves behind in Vista (and 7 ?)! Each update takes the 5-fold in disk-space. And that’s not just because of unpacking teh download. The download is saved, the installfile is saved, the uninstall is saved."

Some of the uninstall stuff you're looking for is in the Control Panel applet for adding/removing software -- sometimes in the features section. All versions of Windows also have a built-in app called Disk Cleanup. In some cases it helps to search at Microsoft's site for info -- there's an included command line app [I *think* in the system folder] for instance to get rid of many of the left over files you're talking about [sorry, don't remember more details].

As with yesterday's GOTD, History Cleaner Pro, Platinum Guard is an easy to use app for cleaning up browser cache files, history, & cookies, along with getting rid of temporary files & a few Registry caches. It also has what I thought was a novel feature: defragging FireFox SQLite databases... I hadn't come across that before today, so I headed over to Google -- long story short, Platinum Guard puts a GUI to the free, command line sqlite3.exe making *Vacuuming* less painful than using the command line or entering the code directly into the FireFox Error Console. As the sites I checked out claimed, *Vacuuming* the FireFox database did make a noticeable difference, & FireFox starts much quicker for me. If nothing else, that made checking out today's GOTD well worth it.

Platinum Guard itself is a VB [Visual Basic] app that's small & doesn't have much impact on Windows, unless you don't have the 4, VB run-time files it needs already installed -- even in that case it still isn't a huge impact. And like yesterday's GOTD, Platinum Guard is something I wouldn't hesitate to recommend -- the more powerful CCleaner &/or most of the utility suites include tools like registry cleaners, which can land inexperienced or more casual users in a world of trouble... IMHO, like handing someone a nailgun who doesn't know how to hammer nails, more powerful tools aren't for everybody. They're more than welcome to try, but I don't want responsibility if they get hurt. ;-)

Also, *maybe* worth checking out if you go to the Reohix site, is their free, RootReg program... For registering 32 bit files in/with Windows, I still use the almost ancient RegDrop.exe. In 7 64 registering 64 bit files is a PITA -> search cmd, open it as admin, navigate the DOS-type window to the System32 folder, then type the regsvr32.exe command, with the complete path to the file you want to register. RootReg, while not as easy as RegDrop's Drag/Drop approach, is supposed to work in Windows 64, & assuming it handles 64 bit files, will be a huge improvement [I'm in XP right now for some other work].

There is one option for your problem.

TuneUp 2010 has one option called "gain disk space".

that s it :)

Second option: turn restore point in windows off and then turn it on again.

Hope this works

BTW hello to everyone from Norway

What I (and everyone?) by now needs:
A program that cleans out the GigaBytes of data that Windows-Update leaves behind in Vista (and 7 ?)!
Each update takes the 5-fold in disk-space. And that's not just because of unpacking teh download.
The download is saved, the installfile is saved, the uninstall is saved.
WHERE?
Can't find anything with Google, no-one knows?
Like the $NtUninstallKB****$ maps, and more, in WinXP.

My Vista by now has grown from 13 GB to 30 GB.
HELP

Why all the negative user ratings today? Especially toward Ashraf. He is awesome and gives great reviews. Are you people confusing the comment rating system as a rating for the software itself? So far, all the reviews have been helpful to me.

#2 you need to backoff that ccleaner. You know over use of that stuff will make your brain shrink. lmao.. But seriously I have downloaded ccleaner 3 x's and everytime I have ran it and used it for a couple of days and then I uninstall it. It really didn't have any meat to it. Ashampoo and Glary utility's really blowed it away on all of the computers I have. Ccleaners might work for you and thats great. But it is not a cure all. Are you sure your not a represenative for Ccleaner

@ #2 Rawn, Ccleaner is good but not great. I ran it side by side with Wise Disk Cleaner and Wise Registry Cleaner and each of the these would find some files the other wouldn't. Obviously the Wise products wouldn't find each others media but they did find stuff Ccleaner didn't. Then I found WinUtilities. WinUtilities found quite a few files that none of the other three could. I checked the files to ensure they were not system critical, which they weren't and now use solely WinUtilities as does all of my family. I am not saying this to down Ccleaner but to merely point out that it is seriously limited in it's abilities when compared to a larger more in depth program such as WU.

Yay! I'm the 3rd one to comment! :D

Cool, another great program from Reohix! Fabulous!

Response to #1

* Needs improvement in terms of cleaning out Internet Explorer’s temp files.
- Use "Piriform's CCleaner" to scan and delete all that junk on your computer! Around 23-100MB are actually junk that are sitting in your computer. Freaky eh?

* No ability to see exactly what is being cleaned (i.e. the actual files) when using the “Smart Computer Clean” feature.
- Now that sucks... ughh, no answer.

* Has “System Restore Files” checked by default to erase.
- System restore... system restore... where is that?

* Can only clean *one* custom folder/location.
- That sucks again...

* When “cleaning” the custom folder, the whole folder is deleted instead of just the contents inside the folder.
- Alternatives are Ashampoo's Win Optimizer 5 (Yes full version, legal, and free), or Revo Uninstaller Free

* No secure deletion features.
- Alternatives are Ashampoo's Win Optimizer 5 (Yes full version, legal, and free), or Revo Uninstaller Free

Hope that helped.
