I thought this would be a good product to use to convert PDFs to Word so that the documents could be highlighted and notes added for reference and/or studying purposes. The other day there was a co-worker that had a document (PDF) that was in a column format, but every time he had it converted, the columns were removed. I had him send the PDF to me, and it converted the PDF to and RTF and the formatting was exactly the same. This is the very first program that I have tried that if I ever had to reformat my system or replace it, I would be more than happy to purchase it. I know this is a late comment, but I always want to make sure something is good before I state that it is. Thanks Give away of the Day for making this available!

I've spent some time looking into this program - and I think it is a good idea that ends up being a bit of a pig in a poke:

1. As many have noted, PDF to Word is a misnomer - it is PDF to RTF - close, but not the same thing (at all).

2. DLL(OCX) hell: I haven't confirmed this but if it is true then it rates as malware in my book.

3. Converted PDFs don't print properly if there is anthing beyond plain text. I had a PDF with a flow chart in it and it appeared to convert (on screen) - but when printed only the boxes and arrows (but not the text) printed...which may be sort of linked to...

4. It doesn't do tables. It appears to, but they are all graphics (100's of them, each cell border is a seperate graphic entity) but it is not a table (try selecting a row or columun - you can't).

5. It doesn't do OCR - it only "converts" text to text - so if your PDF is actually image based it will treat it as an image - and you won't get editable text.

So all in all a bit of a pig in a poke....

If the PDF is text, select/copy/paste will get the text out. If it is more complicated eg mixed text and graphics or all one graphic eg a scanned PDF), the OCR program that came with your scanner is pobably more capable of turning a PDF into editable text. It might even keep tables as tables!

Fubar #38 - Unfortunately for me, I didn't see your warning before I installed. I've been getting nothing but blue screen after a re-boot. I had to go into safe mode to uninstall, and I have done a system restore, but still system blue screens. I have Win XP SP2 - what else can I do to restore system health?

As far as GOTD, you guys need a BIG disclaimer that says "our programs may be beta, and they MIGHT screw up your systems and cause countless hours of wasted time and severe headaches - otherwise they are fine."

I don't know if this post will see the light of day, but be warned concerning this software.
