I have been for so long a time in search of a PDF to Word converter before, to know that there are no good converter, if one test any of them long enough. Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 which I have, is better than any of the very many which I have tested, but then, is still far from satisfactory. Once there was a giveawayoftheday which I compared with Acrobat, and thought that it was better, but on testing beyond the giveawayoftheday period, it fails miserably short of its expectations. Anybody testing it for such a short time (1 day), will not be able to make a fair comparison of such product. It needs extensive testing with different forms of PDF to Word conversion, and you will realize that there are no good converter as many claim to be. For Word to PDF though, there will be no problem for most of them.

Tried both this program and pdfzilla.
Pdfzilla has more options in the way of output format but I found one major difference:
Tested on a pdf user manual for a 5D MKII
Pdfzilla would not convert the manual as it is password protected, PDF to Word converter did convert it though not very accurate with the formatting.

40 dollars for a one trick pony. A program like this one should not cost more than $10. I pass and a thumbs down for me.

Hi, Today I took a great opportunity to use link given in Comment#1 instead (thanks Russell:), not sure for how long that Offer will stay free.

Also - I Roque in Comment#40 rightly pointed out that Giovanni's(#18) first link leads to Today's Soft, and is NOT for free (from there), perhaps like pdfzilla - it was offered for free before? I too am a fan of Giovanni, but even Kings.. can be sometimes like the rest of us mortals, lol, mistaken. Hey, no offense intended:) Thanks All for valuable Comments, as usual!

#29 James, there are a LOT of legitimate reasons to convert PDF files to Word. For instance, I work at a large university where I do a ton of paperwork each day. Most of the forms I use are distributed as PDFs, at least half are not editable. Unless I want to complete a bazillion forms by hand, and I don't, I need to convert those PDFs into a format that allows me to complete them using my computer. If I didn't already have software to do this, I'd be very interested in getting my hands on a product like this.

At first I was delighted by the choice of the software, the download and the registration were equally good. And the conversion was fast. But then when I checked the results, one was incomplete with only pictures and no text! And the other I could not even check it as it was written that if I wanted to see the content of this converted rtf file I had to get some other software. So it is a 0/10 for me!
I am very disappointed! I will not recommend to anyone to download it as it does not work. Once, I would have understood, but 2 unsecured pdf files, that is a shame!

Tested on XP SP3

test files from
www.budget.saccounty.net/CAFR/default.htm

Pdfzilla
export to html went to c:\output

PDF to Word Converter 3.0
export to doc went to c:\output

All went quick, but I don't like how the document always looks different in every browser.

I don't blame the author for this. Maybe it's the particular documents being financial records, being obscured in plain sight?

Thumbs up for the both of them, I didn't think I would ever need a PDF converter, but I like how it does it to html in the pdfzilla.

I could have picked easier targets, freakin spreadsheets, but REAL they are!!!

This program seems initially okay, but I haven't tested it with a complicated pdf. For some of the best conversion of pdf's to Word, the free Nuance PDF Reader (which has some editing functions) has an online conversion link (rtf/Word, Word 2010, Excel). It has preserved format of almost all pdf's I have tried. Most other converters, Acrobat, Omnipage, etc., don't do as good of a job.

"This is a nice product but definitely NOT a great one and it’s a pity that the flagship software of this company (PDFZILLA) has been giving away elsewhere!!!!

But then you state:
"If you are looking for a great FREE tool to convert PDF FILES to WORD, then look no further and grab this excellent FREE app ki$$ing goodbye to your wallet (and to poor offers like this GAOTD as well…LOL!!):

http://www.pdfwordconverter.net/" --- same as today's giveaway!!! What gives? LOL

It theoretically converted a pdf to a file. . .I can't really tell because it made the file larger than 512 meg, which my version of word can't open.

Generally when you aren't able to copy text strings in a PDF file it is because the text is actually just a graphics file, such as Ira 27 is trying to convert and so contain no text.

Often copies of car manuals in PDF format are often just scanned images inside a PDF file, the reason being the drawings on the page would be impossible to represent otherwise.

In the past I have often found it better to convert to text and format it later in word rather than the route this program takes.

Extracting the image from a PDF file and then using an OCR program on the image is a way to extract the text.
This image extraction can be done using the free program PDFill PDF Tools available here:-
http://www.pdfill.com/pdf_tools_free.html

It has the following functions:-
1. Merge
2. Split, Reorder or Delete
3. Encrypt and Decrypt
4. Rotate and Crop
5. Reformat
6. Header and Footer
7. Watermark by Stylized Text
8. Watermark by Image
9. Convert Images to PDF
10. Convert PDF into images
11. PDF Form Fields: Delete, Flatten, List Delete,
12. Convert PostScript(PS) File into PDF
13. Add Information
14. Free Scanner
15. Create Transparent Image

I downloaded and ran on my Win 7(home) laptop. The install went fine.

I ran the program and tested it with a 280 page book with images - was very fast in conversion and did an accurate job. I have another converter and ran it against the same .pdf file - slower and bigger output file.

All in all this converter is fast and easy to use. Thanks!

The conversion is fast BUT careless. There are two alphabetical character on the left margin. These characters sometimes also occur on the beginning of some lines, thus messing up the words. Some words are rendered above the beginning of each line (between lines). So I'd say this software is not ready for release -- not even to beta testers like us.

I already have PDFZilla plus Wondershare's PDF Converter and eXPert PDF from VisageSoft, so I don't think I'll even download today's giveaway, since any one of those three has more options than this one would. It is interesting, though, that it hasn't been very long since I remember getting my PDFZilla for free right here if my recollection is accurate. BTW, none of the above are freeware, but were free for a limited time. Of course, if you don't have any of them yet, by all means, get today's offering.

I don't get how no one mentioned this - or am I just a lucky exception? says I only get 50% conversion with the trial version unless I register but when I try to do that, my only option is to pay $29.99 for a full version...I tried it anyway (the trial version)... it gave me half the document though I am not sure what good a word doc format is when every line is a text box - not like there could be any editing in any case... how could anyone think this was worthwhile or is it just me?

(maybe just me - I just realised I posted this to facebook rather than here! Bad start to the morning)

Converted a 228 page pdf manual (7,829 MB) into a 257,454 MB 'Word'file (...),but the output was fast and pretty good.

Opening the file with Word 2003 automatically converted that big file into a proper 8,420 MB Word doc.file and allows it to be saved that way.
:)

This is a nice product but definitely NOT a great one and it's a pity that the flagship software of this company (PDFZILLA) has been giving away elsewhere!!!!

THUMBS DOWN from me!

If you are looking for a great FREE tool to convert PDF FILES to WORD, then look no further and grab this excellent FREE app ki$$ing goodbye to your wallet (and to poor offers like this GAOTD as well...LOL!!):

http://www.pdfwordconverter.net/

As you can see from the blurb, it can convert hundreds of PDF files in batch mode (yes, you heard me right...batch mode!!) preserving the layout, text and images in the converted DOC file, as well as automatically DECRYPTING restricted PDF files to WORD Documents literally with a mouse click, without charging you a dime for that: simply amazing, isn’t it dudes??

Taking into account its outstanding features, this FREE app is in my view far better than PDFZILLA itself to convert PDF files to Docs.

Other nice FREE software to convert Pdf to Text, Pdf to Image or just to extract IMAGES from PDF pages are also the following ones (GOOGLE them as I can't post any other download link):

- Quick PDF Tools
- pkPdfConverter 1.0.1 Alpha Build 34
- Fusion242 PDF Image Extractor

To merge, split, encrypt, decrypt, fill out forms directly on PDF files and perform other more advanced tasks on them for FREE, before converting them to WORD docs using the amazing FREE tool mentioned above, you can use this awesome freeware:

http://www.pdfill.com/download.html

And finally....

.... if you are looking for the best free PDF READER, CREATOR and even EDITOR tool out there, then just grab a free copy of NITRO PDF READER....is so simple....LOL!!

You’ll be stunned at what this amazing tool can do for you for FREE!!

http://www.nitroreader.com/features/

Yes...it's also a PDF EDITOR, meaning with this FREE app you even don't need to convert your PDF file to WORD, whenever you want to edit it. And it can also convert any PDF file to plain text format as well as extract images contained in a PDF file and then save them in a folder of your choice as separate files.

Cool, isn't it??

Enjoy & Prosper (for FREE of course!!)

Ciao
Giovanni

Some people complained about the lack of HELP but this programme like a lot of similar programmes are so simple even I can use it. There are only FOUR buttons to press (just ignore the last ones)and you can change the output folder by pressing BROWSE.

ADD FILE(s) CONVERT FILE(s)and select OUTPUT FOLDER (SIMPLES)

I use WORD 2000 and got decent results.

I found it very easy to install. I put it on a flah drive and it works fine. I tried out different PDFs and it worked fine. Everything on the PDF showed up including photos, but some text inside boxes didn't show. Also text headings tend to overlap the main paragraphs.

Most text converted OK except for some text that converted to a strange font but I am happy as I can print the parts I want from manuals that can be quite huge.

Anyway: the pdf i tested was itself a converted(?) spreadsheet and it did not do so well going to a 'doc' (cf @5)... so, as i think i've seen elsewhere: your 'mileage' will differ (vary?). The file I had converted returned all pages as images except the heading. Interestingly Adobe acrobat was also giving the same result. Another file was returned as a doc with numerous spelling mistakes by Adobe Acrobat. Todays giveaway just returned all pages as text without much problem.

Works good if it works or returns pages as images if it fails.

Thumps up, though !

Don't even bother with this. Downloaded and installed fine on 7/64. Converted the first file and convertion looked good. Would not allow me to edit the document very well. Will only allow line by line editing and will not adjust the line length using word wrap. Will not allow you to click on a blank line. If the spacing between paragraphs is two large then it will not let you delete blank lines.
On the second document it converted words on top of words. It seemed to create lines on top of lines. The second document had background images and while they converted fine the convertion seemed to be lost on the words in the document.

Few things bugging me about this one:

-Default install directory is C:\
-Clicking register opens a webpage when you're about to paste the key you already have
-Clicking OK opens another webpage
-No local help (online only, and not very extensive/helpful)
-Trying to open from documents folder results in ACCESS DENIED
-Trying to run as administrator doesn't open the program
-Trying to add an individual file defaults the open location to my desktop which crashes the application
-Converting a PDF created in Microsoft Office Word 2010 does NOT successfully convert and looks horrid. Also about 80% of the document is missing.

Uninstalling, sorry. Too many problems to be worth keeping on my computer.

There are so many of such programs, with very similar names, that it is difficult to remember which ones are good. There was a GOTD giveaway years ago of PDF2word.exe, which was really excellent, and some GOTD users are still referring to it, but this seems to be from a different company.
