I have no use for this program, maybe cause I don't know much about this PDF stuff, but I agree 100% with #42's comment. I bumped you up one #42 on voting YES.
Thanks GAOTD for being here!

Can someone explain the PRACTICAL USE of this Software? Like the average person? Thanks

Great offer. Thanks GAOTD.

It also should be mentioned that all comments posted here are really useful. I've using for years a tool named as pdf995 which has an awful UI but did the work very well. Now it seems I have other great options to try.

Based on the other posts above, I´ve just downloaded PDFIll, Hexonic, PDFSam and Nitro Reader. I really liked all of them.

I think I will use PDFFill most of the time but it's always good to have other options.

The comments posted here are as valuable as the tool freely offered today.

Thank you guys.

I've just downloaded this program and gave it a shot at merging several PDF files. It took no time at all to combine 13 PDF's into one 155 page PDF. Thumbs up for me. I agree with James #43. The program works - nuff said.

Now, this is the way to install and activate the Giveaway of the Day software ...easy as the installation, rather than a lot of the other software that I have seen given away here recently with all of their Mumble-Jumble Processes that they put a person through to get the thing activated!!

Today's giveaway is one of the programs that I actually did not delete after reading the "Readme" document due to their intent in not putting a person through BS.

To me, the word "free" implies permanently. Not "time-limited." And not w/o a registration code, like other giveaways, which you can keep if you need to reinstall later. I've gotten a couple of true free goodies from GAOTD--not that I expect much for "free"--but I get by far the most value out of the comments from several good people on here who recommend alternatives elsewhere.

I can't imagine any practical use for this software for the average person. In fact I don't know one person who would have any use of this for any reason.
Some people here say they have been waiting their whole life for this or they say they can't believe anything negative.

I have not read anything yet that people have written that justify use of this program.

Good luck to you that actually have a use.

Thank you

BTW, PDFTools ALSO creates PDFs from an XML file. It has a tiny little interface that does it all except EDIT PDFs, which you can get the PDF Xchange Viewer for that (http://www.tracker-software.com/).

There is so much GREAT freeware out there, we should be supporting them, as well!

Sorry but PDFTools (http://www.sheelapps.com/) is so much better! It encrypts, decrypts, splits, merges, joins, rearranges, stamps PDFs, and prints them for FREE.

"... To use PDFill Tools Free it’s required to have Adobe Reader installed on your PC."

Not exactly - the only additional resources needed for the free PDFill Tools to work are:
- GhostScript (will be downloaded automatically if not already installed on your PC)
- Java Runtime Environment (an update may be advisable)

Adobe Reader (or any other alternative PDF viewers like Sumatra, Foxit or PDF-XChange) is needed just to read the PDF documents (original or modified).

When I try to save pdf files into one merged pdf file I get prompt for name of new file but nothing happens when I try to save the output.

This tool works as claimed. And useful. I give it a thumbs up. Yes, there is freeware that can do all what this tool can do, and more! But this giveaway does work as claimed and deserves credit for that.

However, looking at their website, it is riddled with typos, there is no support or user forum, or change list. And some of their other products are well overpriced for their feature set. I think AlgoLogic needs to think carefully about their product strategy and service offering. There are free tools that have better support infrastructure and therefore there is little value-offering from this product or company (today).

Please look carefully at the PDFill.exe installation file from the PDFill Tools site. It contains:

1. an evaluation copy of PDFill PDF Editor (trial with watermarks)
2. the completely free PDF Tools (for PDF file manipulations)
3. another free application: PDF and Image Writer (a virtual printer driver which allows printing any documents into PDF format or converting them into images (PNG, JPG, BMP, TIF, or GIF image)

The free programs are really FREE.

Thumbs UP!!!
I ALWAYS read comments before downloading and installing any of the GAOTD programs.
This time I actually tried pdfsam but it installed and could not figure out how to use it.
Very strange UI!!!
So downloaded and installed and tried pdf-protector and split Romney's tax form into individual pages in almost no time.
This is JUST what I was looking for.
THANKS GAOTD

#19 ric PDF Xchange doesn't have the capacity to burst (split) or merge Pdfs. I use both pdfsam & Hexonic with beautiful results but I believe that today's offer, though still in infancy will in due time become the standard for manipulating pdf's

It would have been nice to get the "Pro" instead of "Basic" version for evaluation, and free. To see a comparison, go to Help and choose Update Now. It doesn't actually update, but takes you to the product site which shows a comparison chart (similar to shareware) of pro v. basic.

http://algologic.in/pdf-protector-update.html

PDFill mentioned earlier, offers a limited (always) free version and a full-featured pay version with similar functionality.

Downloaded and installed easily on XP. It is going to take a while to fully test the product but a couple of quick tests with small sized PDF's worked flawlessly.

Remember folks that this is Version 1.0 of the product and so comparing it to Version 9 of another product whilst being relevant, is not exactly fair, considering that is the point of it being offered on this site.

I think the filesize and price are spot on, so thumbs up to the developer.

This is an excellent tool and honestly 40% THUMBS DOWN is something defying human understanding!!

In particular I love the option enabling users to split their PDF in Batch Process using multiple options to split!!!

This is something which cannot be found in most of similar shareware software out there.

2 huge THUMBS UP from me!!

As FREEWARE alternatives I recommend the following amazing suite of PDF tools which can do the same things as today's giveaway and even more for FREE:

http://www.pdfill.com/download.html

To merge and split an unlimited number of PDF documents into a single one, you can also use this excellent FREE program:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/PDF/Hexonic-PDF-Split-and-Merge.shtml

Finally, if you are looking for the BEST FREE PDF reader, creator and editor, then look no further: just grab a free copy of NITRO PDF READER.

You’ll be stunned at what this amazing tool can do for you for FREE!!

#8 Nagelfar...On their home page it says
"No watermarks! No pop-up ads! FREE for personal or commercial use! FREE distribution!"
But on the software it says that the Editor files will be watermarked and that it's an evaluation version.
The version without watermark costs $19.99....
How do they get away with calling it "No watermarks! No pop-up ads! FREE for personal or commercial use! FREE distribution!"

Uninstalled it.

BullZip (FREE), PDF Exchange(FREE), Expert PDF, Hexonic PDF Split & Merge(FREE)are SUPERIOR to this software.

Foxit PDF reader (FREE) has steadily grown in power and capability with each new version.

Like #8 I prefer PDFill (http://www.pdfill.com/pdf_tools_free.html). I looked for a long time for a FREE (or even cheap) tool to do a lot of stuff with PDF's. I don't do it every day, maybe once or twice a month so paying what most products cost was not reasonable.

Today's GOTD is only $9.95. Maybe if they had better advertising I would have found it in my Google searches and tried it...

Downloaded and installed without a problem under win7 x64.

It split and merged some small PDF files of about 200 pages each.

But it failed:
1. When i tried to split a 1400 pages PDF since the program crashed.
2. When i tried to split/merge PDFs that contained Greek characters, reporting a failure message.
3. When i tried to split/merge PDFs that contained links by converting them to plain text.

This program is a big NO for me. Uninstalled and voted negatively.

Thanx GotD for another fine program!

Still, as for PDF file modifications I prefer the free (for personal or commercial use) PDFill PDF Tools (http://www.pdfill.com/pdf_tools_free.html) which can:

1. Merge PDF Files
2. Split or Reorder PDF Pages
3. Encrypt and Decrypt with Security Options
4. Rotate or Crop PDF Pages
5. Reformat Multiple Pages into One Page
6. Add Header and Footer Information
7. Add Watermark by Styled Text
8. Add Watermark by Image
9. Convert Images to PDF
10. Convert PDF to Images
11. PDF Form Field Operations
12. Convert PostScript File into PDF
13. Add PDF Information
14. Scan into Image or PDF
15. Create Transparent Image (PNG)

It is always good to have an alternative at hand, and if it is free of charge - it is even better :)

After installing, it shows Demo. If you click activate, you can request key, but it says after proof of purchasing software, you'll be emailed the key. Obviously I didn't click buy now, it's supposed to be a Giveaway. I have been waiting several minutes since clicking send me the key, and still nothing. Readme states nothing regarding activating software, but under help it states Demo, please purchase. What gives?
