I got this software and registered it when I got the key. Yesterday I decided to install a new operating system on a new partition I created with this software. Now since I cannot access my old partition and Paragon actually gavewarning that I had to run it again to activate old partition I get into BIG PROBLEMS. I tried clicking on the setup.exe file I got from you and get a sad message that the giveaway period is over. I am stuck now since I cannot activate my old partition! Thank you for the problems, I really need them! Thinking the licence key and registration was clearly not enough, yes that]s probably normal considering this was free..

#92: Partition manager 2009 can't run from USB stick, but Partition Manager 10 can
#98, 108, 110, 120, 126: during installation you are asked to fill registration form at http://www.paragon-software.com/registration/pm2009dennis.html where you leave your e-mail, then serial number is sent to you
#109: CDs are different
#111: you need to reduce the size of one partition to have unallocated space between partitions. Then increase another one taking that free space. You can also use Redistribute Free Space wizard
#121: in such cases one needs to run "chkdsk c:/f". Partition manager couldn't proceed because of file system errors
#129: Simple Backup Wizard included into Partition manager 2009 Special Edition has some limitations. It can only save backups to mounted partitions. For advanced backup features you may take Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Personal, for example
#132: Robert, it should be fine to have them installed together
#133: in this situation you could have used bootable Recovery CD to complete the task
#134: when you run self-extracting file it extracts to:
"C:\Documents and Settings\fed\Local Settings\Temp\RarSFX0\windows\english\pm2009"
"recovery.exe" is wizard to burn Recovery CD
"setup.exe" is installation package for Windows
Please note that when you close self-extracting wizard Temp foler is cleaned up
#135: please contact Paragon support via forum or support request

I must say, you have made a great software here, I like your design, and I like the simply intereface, the program was installed without a single problem and I was inpressed. Good work
One thing only :
In the boot media cd I cannot see my external HD (usb 1.1), this problem I did have also with the last giveaway offer from you and others SE editions. The purchased ones I do not have. I will contact you on your support page about that.
Thanks GAOTD and Paragon Software

Thank you GoTD for what you do, and to Paragon as well, but I have to say that I am pretty disappointed in this day's giveaway. The first time I downloaded the zip file, it took awhile in extraction mode (like it was just hanging there) and then Windows Explorer would close out or crash...with no extraction. I did this a few times with the same results.

I downloaded the zip file again. This time, it did extract but after I clicked on 'Setup', the small 'Software key wrapper' window came up, but soon after, a little bit larger window pops up over the key-wrapper window stating that some DNS Error occurred and that something (I forgot what) caused it to terminate in an unusual way. No matter how many times I tried clicking on 'Setup' to install the app, it did this same thing now.

So I clicked on the unextracted 'Setup' file in the zip folder; it took awhile (again) to extract itself in the background so that it could finally run, but when it did, it did the same thing with the DNS Error. I was going to shut the computer down and reboot and then try it, but I first wanted to get a Print screen of the DNS Error window to send to you along with my complaint, so I clicked on 'Setup' again to bring the DNS Error window up, and guess what?...The 'Software key wrapper' window stayed going without any Error window coming up. But then I looked at the clock and saw that it was past the time that key-wrapper access is granted, and after waiting around a couple minutes, a window finally comes up stating: "Giveaway period for this software is over, please check our website for a new giveaway.

Well that's really nice I thought...I spend the time downloading the thing, more than once, spend more time trying to bring the Setup app up, and all the time before key wrapper access is terminated it gives me problems, but then finally connects to the giveaway site right after the hour...when then it is too late!...What is the matter with the Setup app or key-wrapper app?

Would anyone help me with this??...I would have liked to have had the program.
Will it be given away again because of problems?
Please let me know.

Thank you,

D.

Hello,

Still an hour to go...I hope I get an answer. Out of 126 comments, it seems I'm the only one that has this problem. First of all when I tried to create the CD rebootble disk, (with the Wizard) it came out empty. I

have no such option of a dual installation. Just the set up and it extracts to the Temp folder. In the Temp folder it will just do the sme, extract again and again. No activation, no nothing else. What do I do? Please someone help.

Tried to create a partition on 64 bit Windows Vista so I can install a 32 bit OS - AND IT FAILED.

Huge thumbs down from me - any software that doesn't work on a 64 bit OS is just too far behind technology to be trusted.

I use Easeus (also given away here on GAOTD a few months ago) and it has so far worked perfectly on Windows XP 32 bit, Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Vista 64 bit.

Kiwi (if you are still monitoring the comments) - I had the same problem as #s 71, 83, & 86 -- I entered the registration info I had received from your email, but after doing so, the "Next" button on the registration screen remains greyed out. I will do what you suggested for someone else and contact your support dep't.

Thanks for making such an awesome product available!!

Oh... by the way... as I already have Hard Disk Manager and Drive Backup, will there be any incompatibilities produced by having all three of these products installed at the same time??

The help file suggests that you can back up to an unmounted physical partition - as can be done in older versions. The "Backup Wizard" does not offer either the DVD drive or the unmounted partition as options for backing up to. The unmounted partition is offered on the list of partitions that may be backed up, but not on the list of destinations for backups. The help file appears to be written for a different version of the software, since it shows screens that do not occur in the present version and talks about a "Main Menu" which is not there and refers to backup functions using different terms from what is shown on the program interface. Not only do they not offer support, they offer incorrect help files!

For those that get the failed to connect message, double check that IE isn't set to work off line, which is a problem that I had last week. The setup wrapper uses IE somehow, so when IE is set for offline, setup "can't connect".

Windows 7 Beta is released, but the Beta copy will expire on June 30th, not August! It is quite unlikely that Microsoft will be in a position to release Windows 7 commercially, by July - so they should be releasing yet another Beta candidate. The current Beta version clearly says "For Testing Only", right on the Desktop, where you cannot miss it!

Again, the Beta is no longer available on the Microsoft Website, so those of you who want it will have to try other means! This is the FIRST time that Microsoft have released a Windows Beta. It is indeed quite beautiful! While it is a huge leap from XP, it is also a definite improvement on Vista.

At WellOiledPC, we have reviewed Windows Vista (http://www.welloiledpc.com/operatingsystems.htm) as well as Windows 7 Beta (http://www.welloiledpc.com/windows7beta.htm). Do visit and let us know if you want Windows 7 Beta!

This program is really slow. I used it to perform a simple resizing operation, and it took 50 minutes !

Then I repeated the same operation with Easeus Partition Master 3.5 and it took less than 2 minutes. And yes, for both the operations, there were no other programs running n the background.

I will use Easeus for all the partitioning needs. But stll, I will keep this Paragon just in case I need all those other features that the Easeus doesn't provide (such as converting a logical partition to a primary one).

That was not a good experience. Installed fine on WinXp SP3 and I decided to increase my C drive by 5 Megs. Paragon got busy and then requested a reboot which I did - I then found my C drive was the same as before and Paragon wanted nothing to do with the C drive after that. Tried a Paragon re-install but still no good. Increased my C drive size using good ol' Partion Magic no probs and that has also hopefully fixed anything nasty that Paragon might have done. Needless to say that particular Paragon prog is now history on my machine!

welloiledpc! Your starting off on the wrong foot my man. First you say "my favorite Software Company - Symantec!". Most of us despise Symantec. I know I do! It's one of the most hated software companies there is, bar none (if for no other reason then there over priced & refuse to uninstall. Even using their removal tool). Then you plug diskeeper & perfect disk. Both have laid waste a relatively new Vista system on me before & I will never even try to use either one again.
Then & wort of all is you come here trying to drub up hits for your own website. Not professional at all. Keep it up & I'll never click your link. I have Ashrafs before & found some useful information there. Keep your comments to the days give away & you just might get received by other visitors in a more friendly way. I'm thinking that until ten, you will always have negative voting on your comments.

Dreadfully shameful my man, dreadfully shameful. And no, I don't vote on your comments at all. I simply skip over them as useless. Imagine that!

Another excellent program from Paragon!
As to the cloning /imaging part,in most cases restoring always has been successful even with older Paragon versions.Thanks.
Kiwi,Ams ,thanks for your involvement and comments too.

So I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I've had the odd trouble in the past with Paragon when cloning drives, even after running a "chkdsk /f" ,probably because of low magnetism of the old drive.
Creating the image was considered successful....,however restoring to another new drive failed and halted abruptly.
Things might have improved, but I was wondering,is there a way to skip possible errors when restoring?
Some other programs do.

1) Paragon's offering:
Jump through hoops to register. (Read up with people complaining)
Proprietary software.
No support (you shouldn't need support however if you are using this tool...)

2) Open source offerings:
Download and install.
Same functionality + more supported file systems.
Cost: $0 + donations if you so wish
Free to modify source code.
No direct support (forums, etc available)

Just a basic summary, I personally prefer gParted and/or CloneZilla.

Thanks to everyone who mentioned that this application should be cautiously used by "newbies" or less experienced computer operators.

I always read the reviews before downloading anything so advice to those of us with less computer knowledge can determine if the software offered if useful to US. My son advised me that I should not even THINK about using partitions, lol, so I will not download this particular program.

I do thank GOTD for all they have done and are doing to offer free software to everyone. Paragon is an example of excellent computer programs. I feel sure this program will work great for those who know how to use it and how it operates.

THANK YOU GOTD!

Excellent tool, saved me lots of time for reorganizing my existing configuration so I could install Windows 7 for beta testing. I would like to specify several moments that impressed me:
a)It is easy to understand what you are going to do (Partition Magic 8 lack this easiness)
b)It does what it was designed for. Drives have been repartitioned without data loss. Just run and and leave working.
c)It let me create dual boot system

Surprising was that software asked to use Recovery CD for partitioning my 64bit Turion based Acer Laptop drive. Anyhow when using Recovery CD the things turned to be much easier. So well done and my thumbs up for this product. Thank you GAOTD for excellent soft.
to #95, gparted is not so informative as Partition Manager with its nice GUI even in boot mode.

@#16:
I love Windows 7! It does not have many bugs! Lots of people use the beta of Win7, and just because this program supports Windows 7(a nice thing)doesn't mean it's unreliable. The backup program from Paragon offered recently supported Win7 as well, it just wasn't listed. Was that unreliable too? No!

@#90 - You can't just hit 'escape" in the middle of a re-size operation unless you want to hose all of your data and make the drive un-bootable. It's good that the software protects the user from themselves in this regard. It's annoying, but necessary. The alternative would be a very complex roll-back routine that these cheapies don't have.

BTW - This DOES work on Vista64. The only thing disabled is "boot mode".

#81: you need to perform the task in two steps:
1) reduce the size of existing partition to free up some space
2) create new partition over that free space
#82: try to boot Recovery CD both in Normal and Safe mode. Most likely Safe mode will be able to recognize hard disk
#83: copy-paste serial number carefully, and also pay attention to product key: also carefully copy-paste it from Paragon's e-mail
#85: some partitioning operations (reducing system partition, sector-by-sector copy of system partition, Redistribute Free Space wizard) require exclusive access to partition, and thus cannot run while Windows is online. Such operations should be performed with help of bootable Recovery CD
#86: please make sure you copy-paste product key and serial number correctly. Don't enter your username. If it doesn't help please visit Paragon's forum and leave a private message for Shepherd with your registered e-mail and screen shot showing entered serial number

Hi from New Zealand,

again I have to remind a group of people, that marking down comments as not useful, when they are, or ask for help, is not necessary, and mean spirited.

To show appreciation of others, and not smartarse them, is one of the greatest personality development attributes, as agreed by psychiatrists, and psychologists. This is very important on this type of forum, because, a few very talented people, as Ashraf, Mike, etc, make an immense contribution to this site, and others are also beginning to do so too, SO PLEASE SHOW APPRECIATION, AND REFRAIN FROM SMARTARSING THEM, SO PEOPLE LIKE ME DON'T LOOSE THEM.

MY FRIENDS AND I PERSONALLY THANK ASHRAF, MIKE, ETC FOR THEIR ADVICE, THAT WE IMMEDIATELY GO TO. ALSO PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP, OR FLEDGLING POSTERS, PLEASE IGNORE THE NEGATIVITY, AS WE WERE ALL BEGINNERS ONCE.

Please note, a partion manager is an expert tool, used on builds or repairs mainly, so all the comments are irrelevant to the average user, who is best to leave this software.

Regards Bill.

I've used this software before and it never left me dissatisfied. Some claim there are better alternatives, and there may be (I don't know, as I've not tested a bunch of these kinds of things out personally), but this application has always done what I needed it to do in the past. It has been effective and efficient for my needs, which I would generalize as being perhaps just a little more than the "common home user" will/would require. The only drawback I see with this offer today is the nearly 90 MB download size. For those of us on slower connections (I've got a 512Kbps line - beats dial-up, but it's NOT the "common" broadband!) it is a hefty download... But I consider it worth the wait for a good, solid, and free, application.

Why would someone need a partition manager to partition a hard drive when in the event the hard drive crashes for whatever reasons, it is not going to be selective in the manner it crash because the drive is partitioned.

I understand there are other reasons to partition a drive, like having two or more operating systems but really, in the normal course of using a computer for a general user, such a software is not really useful.

There is better one which is compatible with most of the operating systems. Thats is "Gparted". It is free opensource software.

Gparted is completely free and anyone can easily download any time. Don't go with these craps. Opensource softwares like "gparted" are more safe than this.

I'm wary of Paragon because of its attitude towards users and the Escape key. I tried PDManager once but was told that the analysis would take 8 hours. Eight hours!! I tried to interrupt the process with the Escape key, was warned not to, but went ahead:- all remaining was a totally scrambled disk.

Users like to have control, Paragon, especially when told that their computers will be occupied for 8 hours.

And now I see Ashraf (#56) saying that if you try to stop the backup, it won't. Does Paragon understand that users pay for and buy their products?
"The program works well. It's just the users that are the problem."

Tread carefully, and use a test computer if you can.
