#147, you sound very harsh.
you can always walk away if you don't like it, what gives you the right to "demand" how business serve you free stuff ?!

Ask nicely and show some appreciation or just walk away.

As with #165, I registered online and never received an e-mail. After a suitable wait, I tried again with a 2nd address. It's now a day later and neither account received a code. (And I did check my spam folders.)

Paragon usually offers great products and I just bought a new laptop that would benefit from the program. I truly would appreciate it if they honored timely requests and not deny registration due to their delay in sending the validation codes.

Thank you Paragon and Giveaway of the Day

Of course, as far as I can tell, they don’t sell any other versions of this particular product, but perhaps they have in the past, or are just leaving that possibility open with their naming scheme. :P
Unforuntately, it doesn't just stop with the Professional Special. It's been said several times now that "Drive Copy" is not the same as "Backup and Recovery" – so what, exactly is the difference? I see this product has P2V Copy – does Backup and Recovery do that? Is this P2V Copy feature different from the one in Paragon Virtualization Manager? If so, how is it different? And for that matter, what's the deal with "Paragon Migrate OS to SSD", "Paragon System Backup", and "Paragon Alignment Tool", three other products that Paragon is selling? What is this insanity?

#60, #67, #69, #74, #74, #76, #96, & #102 etc. etc. etc

Like all of the above members, plus many many others... who experienced download problems, registration problems, no response to registration, no email reply, no serials... etc etc. etc.

What a mess!! I don't blame GOTD, I blame Paragon!

To the folks at Paragon... instead of winning over new customers by letting new customers try your product, you have alienated them with poor customer service!

To the good folks at GOTD... you have a loyal customer base, if nothing else please contact Paragon and explain the situation or in the future please consider refusing to offer Paragon products due to their consistent "server related" problems? It makes you wonder if Paragon is actually a small time operation that consists of just one or two people operating out of someones basement.

Last time Paragon offered one of their programs, 16Nov11-Paragon B&R 11 Compact- they were also having server problems and offered an extension to the download period in the following days.
see: http://feeds.feedburner.com/GiveawayOfTheDayProjectTeamsBlog.
I had problems here in UK, All Day Long but yet to see clearly (as yet this morning) if they will do the same again this time, it wasn't our fault we were here, where were YOU?
I stayed up late into the night attempting to download it and guess what it was down this morning BUT GOTD refused to allow me to proceed - Out of Time!
Come on GOTD and Paragon this is a tease and unfair, where is a Repeat of the download extension for ALL those like me?

@Chris Forbes: Some programs like Laplink PC Mover claim to be able to do what you want, but from what I've heard none really deliver. I look forward to the day when the Windows registry is dead and buried and all apps are portable apps (or at most rely on common dependencies that are included with your OS or readily available as free downloads).

I'm not dumb, but I can't find my copy of this program in my computer either, even though it seemed to install just fine. All that shows up is my previous Paragon Version 10 of this program. As a result, I can't even put in my registration codes despite Paragon's having emailed them to me a little while ago. Any help out there will be appreciated!

For those having trouble extracting the files, you may need to manually select a different folder to extract to. I have ALZip installed and after I got the error saying it couldn't extract the files, it allowed me to select a different location and try again. I was then able to run explauncher.exe from the folder I extracted to to get registration code and install program successfully.

Well, I tried registration with 3 different email addresses, including one that always worked with Paragon before, but the day's over and I've still not received the registration email. From the other messages, I thought the download was going to be the biggest hurdle, but it finally finished and ran fine. For hours I've been stuck at the place where I need to put in the key. Perhaps today's giveaway was only for a limited number of hours? What a disappointment, and definitely a waste of bandwidth since my account has a limit. Oh well.

you recommend, among others, FarStone's 'TotalRecovery'. I tried it, and unfortunately it is useless. It does not boot up with a computer with a SATA drive, which is of course totally unacceptable. I know, geeks can add the right drivers, and it will work, but that is not everybody's cup of tea. I suggest, stay with Paragon - their programs just work, always!

In case of making my system mobile, could you tell me if the changes I make in my external drive will remain after I disconnect from the host computer and will I be able to apply these changes to my main computer? Will the external drive be susceptible to virus from the host computer?
Thanks in advance.

Worked brilliantly. Even the Icons on the Desktop were in their right places.

@Jorpho #70

It's "Professional Special Edition" because it's the Professional Edition, except with a Linux recovery disk in place of the WinPE one included with the normal Professional Edition. That was likely done for licensing issues, and the software is otherwise identical. The "Special" part of the name is just to indicate that difference.

Of course, as far as I can tell, they don't sell any other versions of this particular product, but perhaps they have in the past, or are just leaving that possibility open with their naming scheme. :P

I also see lots of people comparing this to various backup programs, but it's not primarily intended for backup purposes, but for migrating from one computer to another. For backups, there are certainly more suitable products, including some from Paragon.

I probably won't have much need for this particular program, but installed it anyway, since I've found some of their other products, like their partition manager, to be useful. The product downloaded quickly and installed fine for me. I did notice that the registration page at their site didn't submit my information on the first attempt, but it otherwise went smoothly. The download is actually larger than the installed size of the program, so they probably include both 32 and 64 bit versions of the program in the installer in some inefficient way. It might be better if they split the two versions into separate downloads next time if that's the case.

Giovanni thanks for the info but apparently the Farstone offer expired before you posted it. Over at Tipradar we tried to install it with the serial given after you fill out the form (it's the same serial regardless of what you put in for name etc.) and it does not work, said something like used too many times.

I did have problems downloading, but finally managed to do it. However, the main problem now is that I registered 1.5 hour ago and I still haven't received any serial number.
As it is now 1 AM in my country, probably I'm going to miss this one.
Anyway, thanks to Paragon, a reputed developer, for offering this.

Thanks to Paragon Software + GOTD.

No current need for it but will keep for rare future occasion of my secondary 320 GB hard disk upgrade to bigger and faster hard disk. Already have a primary hard disk of 2 TB.

I got my product key and serial number immediately after submitting application. When I next clicked the menu to see my GMail, it is already there from "eservice" in my Inbox. Definitely less than 1 minute and most likely only took few seconds to get the serial number.

For those still waiting for serial number may be change your email provider. Sometimes I type in my email address wrongly. This can be a cause of long waits.

#70 Jorpho writes: "Paragon’s products have been quite nice in my experience, but can we PLEASE cut out this naming insanity? I mean, “Professional Special” ? Really?

Just give us one nice bullet-point chart with ALL the versions of EVERYTHING saying which products have the same features and which products have different features. All this needless confusion has been going on for so long that it’s beginning to seem like a deliberate attempt to deceive."

========

On numerous occasions, at the actual site, I have attempted to decipher what Paragon tool does what and there is no comparison tool, no side by side bullet list, etc. -then throw in these "Special Editions" that exclude something like WinPE and the confusion dramatically increases.

In the past, I have went so far as to actually print out the individual Paragon products to compare what does what and yes, from the large overlap, I do believe that deliberate, intended confusion exists.

Note: EasUS provides an excellent list of difference between the actual WinPE and this Paragon "Special offer" reduction version that only provides Linux here:

http://www.todo-backup.com/products/features/winpe-bootable-disk.htm

As far as I am concerned, EaseUS does more for free, including this free offer today, with no marketing deception; I can find exactly what I am searching for in seconds; not hours.

Would this be able to migrate a partition from an SSD to an HDD?

Do I need to use a special wizard, or worry about alignment?

I want to move my main OS partition to a regular HDD, and use the SSD caching available on my Z68 motherboard (SRT Caching) with a smaller SSD. This will free up the OS SSD for another machine.

Any ideas if I will run into any issues? all the resources on the web talk about migrating "to" an SSD.

http://kb.paragon-software.com/paragon/include/templ/object2.jsp?catId=2124&objId=6778&statId=1943949&foLang=en

For Windows 64-bit first go to %systemroot\syswow64% folder (usually it's "C:\Windows\syswow64"):
cd syswow64
regsvr32 jscript.dll

Same Error 2739: could not access javascript run time for custom action" and installation aborts.

Would this software move my GOTD programs that "live" on my C: Drive to an external drive? That is, IF I could download it? I guess I'll have to use another downloader - wait a minute, I "lost" my "generic" downloader the last time I crashed my system in January.

Would one of the "gurus" plase tell us (we, the mass of GOTD users not knowledgable in techie talk)in SIMPLE ENGLISH exactly what this software DOES?

I have a few Paragon "freebies" and 2 I have paid for, so I absolutely DO recommend the software - that is IF we can get it downloaded before the giveaway ends.

Almost lost my windows install this.

Be careful, after successful installation it asked me to restart. So I did, windows failed to start normally. Windows ran auto repairs and failed to restore windows. I then pressed F8 and loaded windows with last know configuration. From there I ran system restore from the point before installation of the program.

Everything seems to be working now and I'm glad I didn't have to do clean install. The program made some changes to the computer that messed up windows.

I wanted this software, but will not try again.
