I downloaded, installed and registered this product. Well I finally got around to trying it out that I didn't care for it. so I removed it.

The problem is Paragon keeps sending unsolicited emails. Sometimes 2 or more each day. At the bottom of the spam they write,

Paragon News is never sent unsolicited; you subscribed to Paragon's Customer E-Service System for information about our products and updates. If you do not want to receive future messages, please go to our E-Service System and disable the Paragon News checkbox.

I can asure you that I never knowingly signed up to receive emails from these clowns. But even worse, when the link to unsubscribe is clicked, it takes to a page where you are required to register and log in to unsubscribe.

You may forward this to the clowns at Paragon.

Thank you for your other fine software postings.

Typical, fubar sees something he/she doesn't understand and calls it fabricated. Again I wasn't the only one noticing the issues I stated (some before me some after me). I am only trying to help. I'm just lucky enough to have multiple computers with multiple OSs.
The listed drives didn't show up. If the same drives work on your system that didn't work on mine and others' systems; let us all know what you did/changed to make them work on yours.

I would also welcome the mod to check my background, or google me (over 1million hits) or to email me for a verifiable background.

ABSOLUTELY LOUSY PROGRAM!!! Crashed my computer, had to restore with ghost. It messes up mbr and partitions, thank God for simple dos ranish partition manager, still the best!!!They claim its a giveaway but you only get to install it for 24 hours and have to leave it on the machine, if you uninstall and reinstall it won't reinstall, not a giveaway at all, just a 1 day trial. Old ghost is still number 1, acronis true image etc. GL!

It may not be too late even now. See comment # 187. And
for the registering problem itself, see comment #207.
That's how I got mine to register. I'm on XP SP3 & right now it is backing up up my C: drive. I already made my emergency recovery CD. BTW, the basic difference between Paragon Drive Backup 9 PE & Person Edition is PE will only back up the entire drive & Personal will also backup the files individually. Good luck.

Thank you, GAOTD! This is the finest software you've offered since I've been downloading, about 2 years. It works great; I created an emergency boot USB drive, created a disk image of my c: disk, then, already having several images by Acronis True Image, I did a bare metal restore with the Paragon product and it worked BEAUTIFULLY! For those whining about not being able restore their hard disk because they have to reinstall Drive Backup 9, which they will have to buy; that's utter nonsense. The primary function of this software is to be able to restore your image to a blank disk drive. Can you name one single disk image product that does not do this? YOU CAN'T. For those of you that downloaded and installed this product, you did great.

Damn I totally forgot to down this yesterday. ARGH!!!

Anyone know why is there such a big difference in file size between this download and the special edition? Both are personal. Even if you combine SE or trail/demo 32-bit and 64-bit they only adds up to 180MB. What's the extra 60MB for?

Not very good...
Just tried to make a full backup of my C-partition.
The program complained it couldn't obtain exclusive access and had to reboot. Upon reboot it went into a kind of safemode where there's no system access for the user. It estimated it needed a full 1 hour and 28 minutes to backup 78 'Gb' (meaning GB of course) to an external hard disk.
Tried to break it off after 1h but repeated ESC end CTRL-C did nothing. Decided to sit it out.

Upon my returning to the PC after over 1h30m I found it showing a black screen with a thin blue rim and I was forced to reset the computer to regain PC access...
-
The _very same task_ took Storagecraft.com's Shadowprotect less than 45 minutes, during which I could use Windows!!!
If only that one would have been free...

Wow. This is a very good application! The best on GAOTD since the first time I started visiting here. Previously, I loved Macrium Reflect and Returnil from GAOTD... and Folder Marker Pro. But this, this beats them all.
However, being an Acronis True Image Home 11, I find that this lacks one useful feature: Try & Decide. If you still have Returnil, then you don't need that. But I have just moved to Vista and all my GAOTD on XP are gone.. :(.
One thing to look out for is that Paragon Drive Backup will consider an Acronis Secure Zone as it's Backup Capsule. If you have Acronis Secure Zone, be careful with cleaning Backup Capsule.
Oh well, it took too long to download that by the time I get to install and try it, it's already past. Just writing anyway for those who come back to check.

While many of the negative comments continue to be false (and lostinlodos' completely fabricated comments are mildly amusing but mostly pathetic--NOTE TO MODERATOR--if you think this comment is out-of-line, you have a computer in front of you, check his current and previous claims yourself), I have to be able to trust backup software, and this has so many inconsistencies and strange little problems that I simply can't trust it. As someone mentioned, it won't backup MBR's to optical media. Not that I care about backing up to optical media, but there's no reason why it should be treated differently. 7-Zip will open ISO's, but not those created by Paragon. If you create ISO's, it can't verify them (at least, not without burning them). It apparently correctly splits across optical media correctly irrespective of the splitting settings, however it internally splits into files of less than 4 GB anyway. It behaves very differently depending upon whether you are backing up files and folders, or backing up drives or partitions. And as some have mentioned, the UI is strange and has glitches. Paragon needs to fix many aspects of this before I would trust it.

To #253 & others -copy the registration code normally, then click in the correct box and press "control v" - without the quotes - will paste for you when right clicking your mouse won't.

Thanks GAOD - this is a great product. I've already used to backup entire C drive and make a bootable CD. First class!

Absolutely no problems in the download, install and registration of this offering on my Vista 32-bit system.

I've been using the "express" version of this app for almost a year now and it has saved my butt more than once.

This application and a stack of CD/DVDs or an external HDD will prevent even the most complacent person from catastrophic loss.

For those that are worried about losing your registered version...you can still recover your data no matter what...just as long as you create your bootable disk or USB flash drive. There is a very simple wizard set up for this...look under "tools" in the menu bar.

I can't see how anyone could offer up a "free alternative" that can even come close to this offering. This is a premier, award-winning and time-tested application from a highly reputable developer.

GRAB IT WHILE YOU CAN!

Thanks for the great gift ya'll!

I think I will need Paragon support. Someone please give me the Paragon email address.

I had downloaded the Personal Edition successful.
I had got the Serial and Product code through the email successful.
I run install of the 32-bit version.
It installed halfway and then a DOS PROMPT screen shows up.
Then the wizard roll backed the installation.
After that, it says that the wizard was interrupted and not able to complete the installation.

BUT I did not do anything out of the ordinary during the installation.

So, any someone knowledgeable please give me the email address to Paragon support?

I may not be able to install the software during this giveaway period as I am going to my office now. Please help.

- Firstly, to the mockers - it has taken me almost 6 hours to download this thing and get it to install. No, I am not on dial up, and it was the middle of the night when I started - usually a reasonable d/load speed- One really had to want this to go the downloading route - I assume, dear developers, that paying customers will get a CD to save this sort of lock up?

On the registration keys front - I too cannot cut and paste - no paste comes up.... However, what might help others is that, in typing by hand, it is worth checking that the 0 and O are not miscopied - given that the thing is a mix of letters and numbers. Anything circular is a numeral, as far as I remember - at least - after a bit of trial and error!
Now to sleep, thank goodness I work twilight - so can only try out the prog long after the deadline closes... sorry if that doesn't help the givers.

as well as the reverse of course.

It worked for me as they look alike in the email text.

OK, it looks like they can push this software down pretty fast, I got the 241MB's in 1min 54sec (2.11MB/sec).

I really like the idea of this software. I'm curious how it will work with NAS. I've got a pair of 400MB drives on NAS so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks GAOTD!

#s 186, 216 and 241:

I discovered my problem -- maybe not yours but you might want to check.

I copied/pasted the user name. The user name included the phrase "user name". I took that to be part of the user name.

It wasn't.

Try copying the user name without 'user name' and see if that helps.

It helped me :-)

WOW! 75% positive feedback on GOTD. That's a first (and a good sign!)

I, too, have no program like this but have used Norton Ghost in the past. I'm used to the concept of backing up to optical discs, but the thought of the convenience of backing up to (or restoring from) an external hard drive is irresistable (time to start keeping an eye on Egghead, Frys, and Spoofee). I think I'll make a boot disk AND a boot flash drive, too!

Here is my File acquisition, registration, and installation experience today.

Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Ya, the download server WAS slow-as-hell (actually, was running at 200k/sec which is my usual DSL speed...when it decided to).

And yes, whining about the size of a free program, and especially how long it takes to download on your dialup is, well...you tell me.

Ran the setup (after unzipping the program and READING the readme file) by clicking the start button, typing "run" in the "start search" field directly above the start button, and browsing to the "setup" file in the folder you downloaded the zip to (this ensures the the install is run with administrative privileges).

When it came to getting the serial number part, I received the code in about a minute or so. My usual method of left-click dragging over the code, right-click, then left-click copy didn't work and I was too lazy to look up the ctrl commands (I can never remember) that worked for others, so the old-fashioned tried-n-true manual typing method came through, as always =o)

The installation proceeded and ended flawlessly. I did a restart to complete the installation and no errors occurred. In addition, there was no new icon in my notification tray (I like that) and there was a new desktop icon (I don't like that without being asked, but NBD) that quickly found a new home after being dragged to my quick launch bar.

Thanks, GOTD and Paragon! I appreciate it!

Well, there's no way I'll be able to test this out to any extent in just a few hours.
So here's my initial thoughts.
I've never used this program before and my idea of a backup is cloning a drive to another drive, by RAID or by specialized cloning software.

Installs on
XP x64
XP x32
Vista x64

Despite what others have said, I really like the interface. No trouble on any of my systems with loading, or browsing for files to backup.

I also didn't experience the "crash" or "invalid" serial issues. Just copy and paste from email and all is well.

Real easy to make selective backups.

Only real negative I see so far is it doesn't support backing up from optical media or any non-hard drive. After choosing to backup a partition it
didn't recognize my
DVD drives (a DVD-RAM disc), my Floptical drive, my solid state (SSD), or my tape drives. Also didn't recognize attached USB storage drives, even though it picked up my SATA drives that are attached via SATA-to-usb controllers.
To bad since I use them just as much as any other drive.
However; I'm not sure yet if there are settings I can figure out to change and pickup other devices. So I'll post later before this is finished.
Allowed me to backup from removable solid storage devices (xD, SD, and USB) and my SSD from the Backup Files option, but still not my DVD, Floptical, or tape drives.

BIG download, took a few minutes to get it but for whatever reason the download speed of the site doesn't appear to support downloading faster than 180Kbs. Getright found a mirror though that went straight through to 9Mbs so try mirrors.

So far it looks intriguing.

Wish I had this two days ago as I accidentally deleted and overwrote over 7 gigabytes of files. Would have been nice to have had a selective backup, something my current software doesn't allow for; clone the drive or don't.

It's this simple:

This is an outstanding offer from Paragon and this website, for an exceptional product - at no cost! Download it and install it now; figure it out later! Don't worry how it compares to other imaging backup software in detail. Learn how to use it, and from there make a plan as to where you want to store the image and how often you should update it. Sign up at the forum, read through some of the threads, and ask questions when you need to - this kind of support is only part of what makes this product so valuable.

Take your time! Backing up is too crucial to do incorrectly; in fact, it's like not doing it at all, and wasting a lot of time. The process is not always easy, but the returns are huge...

Do yourself a favor and don't miss this rare opportunity. Have fun!

Sadly some of us are stuck in the stone age with no other choices and nowhere else to go. Much as I would like to have today's offering, it's a no-go for me, as are so many of the recent GOTD's.

I used to find GOTD a really useful site but being stuck with a slow d/load speed it's hardly worth looking in these days. Everything is w-a-y too large for me. Sorry GOTD.

It is late here, but I did go to the discussion board and let them know of the problem I just posted about. Since I am about to go to bed, I guess I don't get to take advantage of the one offer here I could really use.

I see things like this happen quite a bit, and as much as people post about these kinds of problems, very seldom do I see a solution offered by GOTD, or by the company offering the software. I realize the software is free and that is great, but it isn't free if it can't be downloaded or used. The whole purpose of this site is kicked in the butt when people can't take advantage of the offers.

I would love to see a reply from either GOTD or the software provider as to a solution for those of us who can't get this registered, but I somehow doubt it will be coming.

The file size too is 'impressive', at around 240 MB - the largest I've seen here at GAOTD!

For a Backup to be useful when disaster strikes, it needs to be at some other place - never put all your eggs in one basket!

I use Norton 360 for my File Backup. It costs about US$ 80 per annum and gives me the VERY BEST protection against Viruses, Trojans, Worms, Rootkits, Spyware, Phishing and other malicious stuff that the Internet abounds with! In addition, Norton 360 also has top-of-the-line Password Management features and Secure Auto Fill of web forms, that integrate with Internet Explorer as well as Firefox. (Currently, Norton 360 does not integrate into other Windows-based Browsers). It is the Number 1 Security Product and that should be enough for most Software Vendors. Right?

Wrong, for Norton 360 also offers you 4 GB Online storage at no extra cost! You have the option of buying more storage space too - personally, I'm quite OK with the 4 GB space that comes free with Norton 360! Naturally, you have the option of choosing "Which" files to backup and "When" to backup, apart from the "Where" to backup option. Despite all these features, the Norton 360 Setup file occupies less than 80 GB space...

Kudos to Paragon and GAOTD for bringing us Drive Backup, but I'm sticking with Norton 360 for my backup needs! Norton 360 is extremely user-friendly with respect to file backup and restore, while it also gives me COMPLETE security from Viruses, Spyware and other horrible stuff!
