How about giving us some information on all of the ??????????????
OR better yet, give is a download in English instead of ??????????
It seems ridiculous for a vendor to offer a program that the average halfway computer literate person has trouble installing.

This is not Paragon problem. GAOTD wraps vendor's installation file into its own package that checks date, offers to install GAOTD tool, etc. And this package is not in English. GAOTD is aware of the problem.

Tried to install this software twice. It installs fine but 3 of my hard drive partitions go missing after installation.

I'm forced to uninstall it and restart my computer to get back my hard drive partitions.

50 & 56 still have no answer to the key problem that I can see. Still have problem with key not being picked up. Certainly grateful for the free software though. Never mind the very handy launcher that comes with Software Informer.

The Paragon free data recovery software with this offer just saved my laptop, been trying for a week to get it to boot and Cleanse Uninstaller gave me back 5 Gig on my desktop by getting rid of three years of temp files as the Windows clean up would not function. Its not a miss print. 5 Gig is a lot. I am really happy

If you' re stil having trouble getting it to instal, try deactivating your antivirus(Avast in my case)which may be blocking it(finally worked for me). Good luck.

This program was flagged by Trend Micro as wanting to make a high risk change to my security policy. Do I need to allow that?

Also, after installing I can no longer see USB flash drives in Explorer, even though they still load OK and work fine on another computer without this SW. This happened on two computers I installed this SW on.

After re-booting the computers I could see the USB drives again.

Backup software is only as good as its ability to reliably restore your data when needed.

To be fair, I have not tried THIS download, however I have had unacceptable results with this company's software in the past. The design and interface are good, but the products suffer from lack of thorough testing. Backups worked sometimes and not other times. Restores were unpredictable.

Before you commit to this or any backup software, make sure you run some test backups and RESTORES. Just because a product can backup does not mean it will restore when you need it.

#44 charley - Make sure you are downloading the correct version for your operating system. The most likely scenario for your error is that you had the wrong version.

for 32 bit systems you need this one:

for 64 bit systems you need this one:

Hi everyone!
I'm not a computer expert, and i don't understand too much all those high vocabulary language from all of you - highly educated computer guru's.
But i've managed to download and install this backup program, and then i made a backup of my complete system onto my external hard drive.
Now can anyone please explain me how my system will be restored, if the unwanted happens and my system crashes. will it be a easy process of just plugging in my external drive and clicking some easy clicks, or does it take more than basic knowledge to restore a system.
I will greatly appreciate anyone who can help me on this matter
Thanks

#58 @ Hork Dorkimer please see
http://dottech.org/gotdreviews/12770
for Ashraf's full review, which would be a little much for this page (imho).

I've used many of Paragon's software offerings on GAOTD and each has been solid and performed flawlessly. Some of the Special Editions are a little abbreviated via wizard interfaces for what I wanted but I'm especially gratefull to Disk Backup 9 Pro they offered a little while back. Been using it to back up the entire HDD containing my C: drive (3 partitions, one of which is Linux EXT3) on my laptop since they offered it, to a USB external HDD, and made the recovery CD (Linux based) as recommended in case of disaster. Then one day disaster struck, that HDD failed. I replaced it, booted to the recovery CD, restored the entire HDD, and was back in business, having only lost a few days emails and such since the last backup. It worked flawlessly, and the time was worth an accurate recording and restoration of all partition information and extended attributes.

I've also used Partition Manager Special Edition to physically move partitions around on the USB external HDD. Never had a problem. This has all been done from a WinXP SP3 laptop also containing Ubuntu Linux Hardy Heron.

I now also have a Vista x64 laptop and plan to utilize all of Paragon's x64 native offerings from GAOTD (including this one, which will let me back up my Vista laptop to the same WinXP SP3 USB external HDD via a LAN connected network share!). I'm writing this before downloading and installing today's x64 bit offering to my Vista laptop having full confidence in Paragon's quality and my past history with them.
Thanks to GAOTD and to Paragon.

Kiwi wrote in #19:

An image of bootable Recovery CD is also included, that why the file is quite big.
Recovery Cd is super useful tool, you can use it not only to restore the system in case of disaster, but also to take backup, fix boot problems, copy data from unbootable computers, etc.

I currently have "Paragon Drive Backup 9 Professional". If I plan on running XP for awhile, is there an advantage of going to the 2010 version? Using the comparisons reference on the Paragon site (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-personal/2010vs9.0comparison.html), it seems that 9 has more features.

Thanks Paragon for yet another great offer! And thanks to GAOTD!

Hi- ref. 58 & Ashraf's comment about speed of creating an image:

I found O&O's Diskimage (which supports incremental imaging and a bootable disk with tools) perhaps 10% faster.

However, whilst the back up and restore work, there are various quirky things about using O&O's Diskimage which leaves you feeling it's rough round the edges- unpolished.

(E.g. the updates override user settings; the iso I got identified my Vista as XP; several error msgs have proved uninterpretable).

So speed isn't necessarily everything.. you get what you pay for.. maybe nothing today!

If you are going to use this software, make sure you can boot from the recovery CD first! All the best backup software in the world is useless if it will not complete a successful restore!

On two separate computers, I cannot boot successfully from the Paragon recovery CD. I believe the linux/dos kernel cannot recognize my hard disk drive.

Maybe the WinPE recovery CD would fix that. The WinPE option is not included with this offer.

#1 @ Ashraf... you say "Speed of backup creation and compression level can be improved vs. rival software"

WHAT rival software are you talking about, exactly.... and what were the benchmarks and performance specs for all of this 'rival software' compared to Paragon??

How long SHOULD these operations take?
How long did they actually take ?

I love it when you just make up a couple of 'bad' (or for that matter, good) bullet points with basically nothing behind them and shoot them out there like it's a fact. Hey - I think my computer could be 'improved compared to rival proucts' too...but it's the fastest I could buy at the time and I didn't actually test any other rival computers so I have no idea if it actually is slower or not... but I do want it to be faster...

Bob - I could not agree with you more. Thats what makes most of these reviews useless to me. None of them seem to compare how well it does a recovery..just how quick it backs up the system drive.

I have found with all these imaging programs, the only sure way of making it work, is to boot into a recovery CD and do the backup from there. Also do the recovery from there. Anywhere else, and I have found that often the image does not work properly.

Acronis 8 and 10 both failed me horribly when I did the image from within Windows 2000....luckily I had made previous ones using a recovery CD. So from that experience I have always used recovery CDs rather than relying on software makers to get it right from within Windows.

The only one that I have found that actually works in Windows without needing a milion services, is strangely enough, Windows Backup in Vista and Windows 7. You just have to remember to make the recovery CD....otherwise its useless.

I have the Previous offering of Pro 9. I think I will stay with that. It offers a few things this offering does not. However this offering does offer Windows 7 support so many who have changed will welcome that.
It's a good program well worth having.

By the way, I dared yesterday to have the AUDACITY to question a comment by GOTD's #1 commenter. Of course it was not allowed to be seen. Pretty sad commentary when constructive criticism is not allowed.

No wonder fubar left.

Guess no one will see this one either.

XCOPY is a free alternative to backup: xcopy eks. MS Outlook to USBpen:
xcopy "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Lokale indstillinger\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\*.pst" F:\tekster\Outlook_backup\*.* /d/s/m/y

You can make a .bat file and db.click on this when backup is desired.

I have become a BIG Paragon fan after having critical problems with Acronis RECOVERY. Previously I was a strong supporter of Acronis and recommended it to everyone I knew. I had a full backup of my drive. The drive crashed and I replaced it with the SAME manufacture/geometry after failing to recover to a NEW larger drive. Acronis Support was terrible and I wasted 3 months before THEY gave up and refunded ALL the money I had paid. I then was forced to a complete reinstall and then started testing Paragon. I tested all types of backup/recovery (I am some what Paranoid about recovery) and switched to Paragon for all my backup/recovery. I have paid for the products because I want them to stay in business and continue product development and support.

The REAL ISSUE with ANY vendor is NOT Backup but recovery. The challenge is:
1. System recovery testing is a time consuming activity
2. System recovery takes place (normally) ONLY AFTER A CRITICAL problem and you are under pressure.
3. FILE backup of "critical" non system files should be done via the online free backup vendors like mozy.
4. File recovery from Full volume backup is a great feature.
5. Backup time is typically very long but recovery is even longer.

I am grateful to GAOTD / Paragon as I installing the latest on my laptop but am nervous because I do not have time to test the "stand alone recovery" But I will attempt to selectivity restore a few files.

If anyone tests the recovery (full or selective) would appreciate ANY comments (success/failure/time).

Bill, it does not do what you're asking, I think. It will boot from the flash drive and will run a portable version of Paragon drive backup which allows you to fix boot errors and restore images/files. Saving program files and running from a flash drive is up to the program you want to use, not a backup program.

Question;
one of the users posted this;
"Can create bootable CD/DVD (Linux based) or bootable USB/flash drives."

Does "bootable USB/flash drives" mean that I can save actual program files and run them from my external hard drive or a flash drive?

I am mostly a cad/cam, tooling designer user and not very well familiar with most other stuff.

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Great give away. Drive Backup has always proven stable on my system. I prefer it to the Windows 7 backup because you can choose what you want to back up. Windows 7 backup offers very few choices, and takes a LOT of disk space. Also, this allows you to use a USB stick or SD card to boot, which is what I need for my ASUS eee.

The 64 bit inclusion means I can also use it on my home PC.

I was waiting for this, thanks GAOTD!
