There were sure some ODD comments on here. I had NO problem with it wanting to split my files, using an external harddrive. It made one image (ISO) backup file. Using the rescue disk maker also made one file, which was NOT gigabytes, as the person above made that sound. They were using the drive backup software, not the rescue disk software! Some people's confusion(& I admit I have had & posted my share of software confusions, sorry).. anyway, I hope their confusions didn't discourage anyone from getting & using this!
#15 above- you need a completely different kind of software for that. Try Google for that, & you may even find a free software for it, there are a lot out there.

In Help, and about, it shows a line for a "free up date" the version it shows on the page is

Paragon-134-PRE_WinInstallSN_10.0.10.10505_000.msi

But when I click on "go to files" or sompthing like that it only goes to my downloads, this update or the program doesn't even show.

How can we/I get this "free" update?

Does this s/w (or any other s/w) recover CD's or DVD's? I have several discs which have multiple files on them, some of which should be recoverable.Would Paragon have a function to help me recover/salvage these files?

USE CAUTION WITH ONLINE BACKUP! I bought a LaCie external hard drive with a FireWire 400, USB 2.0, and eSATA interface, it was the model known as 1Tb external hard drive triple interface, with design by Neil Poulton (I know WTF who?). One of the purchasing points they promoted with buying this model was that you would get a year of free online backup with a new company called Carbonite. While I was using Carbonite's beta software to backup my data online, only about 2GB of my many Gigs of photos, etc, were uploaded to their servers, before their software corrupted my XP C:\Windows\System32 bootable files and Master Boot Record were corrupted beyond repair, and 9 years of my life were lost. The file structure appears to still be intact on the hard drive, but I will have to pay some ripoff smuck $1000 to pull it off instead of retrieving it myself I am sure. I explained the problem to them, and they assured me the 2GB of photos they had of mine would be perfectly safe. A few months later when I was finally getting my new computer financed, paid for, running, and installing my applications, I tried to download my files from Carbonite, and they were gone. Carbonite told me it was my fault, for not viewing my online files in 30 days, even though it was a 1 year account. I tried within 2 weeks on a rented computer and could not, and Carbonite told me they were repairing their system. The copy of the EULA I had didn't say anything about checking my data every 30 days and I told them so. They knew I got their service through LaCie, and they flippantly told me they would gladly refund my money if I give them my credit card number (knowing that I never purchased anything directly from them, but from Amazon, a LaCie product 1 Tb hard drive which qualified me for the year of free service, they were being sarcastic jerks in their offer, it was brutal and a harsh lesson.) That's why the message up there from #8) makes me very suspicious. The person leaving the message speaks like the same person who translated the Easus site from {foreign language} to English, cannot take them to court or sue them for your money back, you give it to them it's good as gone, oh yeah just like a domestic company. I miss paying with original non-debit Credit Cards who warrant purchases. I wouldn't pay for anything except this from my own investigation and just reading thousands of reviews over past 11 months. http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
Even they have plenty of unhappy ex-customers for their home product with "plus pack" add on and online back up which was free (1st year in beta) in December 2009, Jan 2010. Every time I save up enough dough to download and buy Acronis Software with shipped disc and download, a financial disaster hits me of the several-month sort, wiping out my savings. I live on disability income (nothing) with a couple of very life-threatening illnesses. So this is a good reason to give Paragon a try. Thank you GAOTD and Paragon.

I've been using this for a few weeks now. Previously under XP I used Macrium Reflect but after migrating to Windows 7 I was looking for a (free) solution that would do incrementals and this was the first one that showed up. Overall I'm impressed with its functionality, although I prefer the Macrium user interface, but maybe it will just take time to get familiar with Paragon. A few things I don't like about it: it seems like you have to manually import your "archives" into the "database" after you do an initial backup, but I think once that's done it does track the incrementals going forward. There seems to be no way to set a number of previous backups to preserve, or a threshold of available disk space which would trigger removing old backups, so I guess they have to be removed manually, and it seems that you have to do each one individually, so removing a Level 0 doesn't remove the associated Level 1's. It seems the image backups are a little slower than Macrium but I haven't really tested it. There is some additional functionality here for partition management. It will do both image and file backups. It seems pretty difficult to associate the cryptic "archive" name with what filesystem is backed up in it.

I need a simple backup tool that can boot from CD (outside of Windows) and back up an entire partition to/from a compressed image file on a HD or removable media. I used to use an old version of Drive Image Pro, but my partitions grew too large for it to handle (and I never upgraded).

From what I can tell, Paragon Backup & Recovery CE can replace my Drive Image Pro and will do what I need via the bootable recovery DOS/Linux CD. I made that CD and noticed the Image Split Size cannot be increased above 2000 MB, and even though I turn off split images (I want to get 1 large file on my HD) it insists on breaking up the files at 2 GB anyway. Is this a bug?

Also, if something happens to my HD wiping out Windows and my GAOTD installed Paragon Backup & Recovery CE, will I still be able to use this bootable CD to restore my partition(s)? If so, then I guess the bootable recovery CD is standalone and not locked to the GAOTD install.

I guess I need to save the .pbf and the numerous 2 MB .001, .002, .003, etc. files to have a complete backup of my partition. I hope the files can be renamed as long as the filename matches among all those extensions. Has anyone tried it?
