Although I did not download this software, as I already have my own, I simply cannot let all the comments about morality and spouse- and child-spying go unanswered. Sorry, I realize that's NOT WHAT THIS WEBSITE IS ALL ABOUT, but let me tell you from experience: I have one of those cheating, lying spouses. He's a PRO. If I didn't spy on him I'd be totally ignorant of what he is doing because he is such a good liar. Fortunately, I noticed signs that were out of character, and made me suspicious. Confronting did no good, he lied. Confronting with PROOF did no good, he lied. So while I'm doing something some consider to be immoral,I may be protecting myself from numerous other problems, because what he's after isn't exactly the cream of the crop, if you know what I mean. So shut-up about morality--you will never convince me I'm the one with poor morals. I trusted for too long, now I'm wiser. My advice--if it works, go for it.

I think (I could be realy wrong here) that I remember something given away on GAOD like this, plus, it didnt use spyware of trojans ect. Anyway, I am very concerned about security, and am actually making a blog about it. Anyway, i dont think (by the comments given) that you should use this "software". And, as said by #1, there are free alternatives. My verdict, dont install use nor download.

#107:Yes this is Spyware. Once again, for those who still don't get it:Any program which monitors activity on your computer as this software does is spyware, and yes this software is illegal in any situation. Research the laws, and you will find out it is illegal for any individual to spy on someone without their knowledge. This is no different than tapping someone's phone line. Only cops/government can do this (even they need a court order from a judge to do so). There are safe alternatives to this built into windows for everybody to use.

A total disaster. While trying to install Overspy my McAffee detected Trojans in the program. Mc
affe gives you the option to keep if you feel it's Ok. Coming from "Giveawayoftheday". where we are told they scrutinized all the software that they sell or give out free, I decided to accept their word and downloaded the program. Terrible decision. The program never work right, and when I decided to delete it, it took half an hour trying to do it. The program would not delete. Further more my Windows XP Pro could hardly function.
There's a lesson here for "Giveawayoftheday" to clean better and bragg less about their programs.

As @usethistoregister commented, this is Spyware. Those trojans allow it to copy keystrokes (such as passwords) and more, and send it to an email configured by the person who deployed it. Hackers can also manipulate this program to work for them. Why would they create a trojan when you already have one for them to use? Those who like programs like limewire, it's spyware also. If you like limewire emule is a safe (and portable) alternative.

Leaving out the question of moral/immoral software. . .

This would have been useful for me if it had worked as it was designed, but many of its features did not function properly (appeared in Add/Remove when it was not supposed to, screenshots only taken unpredictably and occasionally, hung system at shutdown, appeared intermittently in taskbar when in stealth mode, etc,) so I had to remove it.
After uninstall, found a mysterious add-on still enabled in IE, looked it up, and found it was from Overspy. Also found these instructions for complete removal:

Many people mentioned using this as a method of watching where your children or network users are going online or to check to see if they are watching porn.

My suggestion is to use OpenDNS.com's free service which 1. makes surfing faster and more reliable but also 2. allows you to block content by category (ex: nudity, instant messaging, download/warez sites, etc). That will be the best free way to control your network users for free and it will also keep a record of website attempts which were blocked and other additional web usage stats, if you allow it to. I believe they also block sites which automatically load viruses but I'm not 100% sure.

But for viruses (other than blocking download/warez sites) you should really just get good AV software (not Norton or McAfee; After doing a lot of research, I found Nod32 both the most effective AND resource efficient). For those parents who want to über-ly super control their children from predators, I suggest disabling javascript and flash in the browsers as most chat rooms will use either one of those.
