I installed this on an older computer and had performance issues, so I tried uninstalling. However, the computer crashed during uninstall, and since then, I have had nothing but issues. I've had to manually clean up what is left of the program on my hard drive, as the Agnitum uninstaller has vanished and I cannot uninstall it using any other solution, yet Explorer.exe keeps crashing and the Agnitum firewall component is somehow still affeting that older system -- it's completely blocked Internet access despite my being certain that Agnitum uninstalled its firewall and nothing I do can restore Internet access (Agnitum seems to have left an ActiveX component and some regkeys I just cannot locate or remove). I'm going to try a system restore and see if that fixes the issue; if not, I think only a syatem reinstall will work :(

Installed it on my A64 system (Phenom II 940, 4 gigs of ram, GTX260, W7 64 bit) and when I rebooted after installation my PC blue screened as the OS was loading. Figured it was a fluke, tried another reboot and got the same BSOD.

Had to run startup repair which rolled my PC back to the pre-installation state and everything was fine.

Just an FYI.

After downloading the repaired version of Outpost security Suite, I had no problem with registration or setup. However the program shuts down and reboots to finalize the installation and on my Windows XP SP3 setup, it sent the computer into the Blue Screen Stop Error mode. I don't know why this happened and it doesn't seem to have affected anyone else so I must have a conflict of some kind. A man vegetable shrinking moment though. I restored the computer to an earlier time using the restore point the Outpost install thoughtfully created beforehand. Thanks anyway to GOTD for creating this innovative site.

Fubar, thanks for your comments, I always enjoy reading your stuff. You know how to find these things, I don't. I put in the code to get the key, they sent the key, but no more instructions on what to do or where to go. The majority of GOTD activations are automatic or very easy. This wasn't. It just wasn't worth spending an hour or more trying to figure out what to do next. But thanks for your help.

Outpost flagged the LCC compiler's zlib.dll as malware. This is a file from 2002 (confirmed by md5 = f42601d4ac18bb06d830b6f8e4500adf
) which is proven clean; however in 2006 Ad Aware included a definition that erroneously flagged this as malware.

Has Outpost been using Ad Aware's old definition strings???

It does create a restore point before it installs. Just go back to it.

I have XP SP3 also with all the updates and it installed and is working fine (on the computer right now).

XP Pro SP3 - Process1_Initialization_Failed > delete recently installed software! Outpost is not ready for prime-time - too fraigle! And, yes, I deleted, rebooted all active scan applications before installing. As is often the case: You get what you pay for!!!

This software is good but the setup/arrangement with GAOTD could be inproved upon.

BIG suggestion - register the software as mentioned in the Readme.txt and DO NOT REBOOT until you have your key as Outpost may block your email prog (catch 22 thing). I was able to get the email on my handheld device but not on the computer!

Lastly, let the software 'learn for a week' of what and how you use your computer.

I'll comment, although the offer is over now. This one installed fine, after I disabled my existing Norton firewall. Seems to work fine, too, so far. No other problems with the installation, received the reg key to my e-mail in a few minutes. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit machine, btw. Nice timing with this offer, too, since my paid Norton license runs out in a few days... and this one is free for a year. Thank you, GAOTD! :D

Agnitum failed to send on the registration key. After removing all other security measures this is extremely fruistrating and reflects very badly on GAOTD.

Why didn't this software activate after installation like GAOTD offers usually do - this requesting registration codes is a disaster and I will never again try any offer that uses that procedure

Are Agnitum going to provide keys even with the offer expired?

#108, rizla01, the stuff about your browser is browser-specific, despite the message it's not the firewall's job to handle that. Also, if you read the message about the browser it's perfectly normal stuff. Most browsers have settings to handle cookies and sometimes other privacy-related settings.

#119, AugustusPoirot, you'll see this too late to do any good. Since Agnitum uses the Microsoft Installer, you'll get an automatic restore point. Yes, you'll need to uninstall other realtime scanners like AVG first. I can't say which security product is the "ultimate", but Outpost rates very well in some tests and the integration avoids the conflicts which so often occur, despite people claiming no conflicts among multiple products (I've experienced the problem too often). The fact that a number of different security testing sites can rank the same products in completely different order doesn't help. For example, PC Magazine didn't like Outpost, but they're neither an unbiased source nor a security testing site. Matousec only tests certain security aspects, mostly outbound firewall related, and Outpost always does very well. The antivirus component has been tested by Virus Bulletin and generally receives their top award.

#120, Corno, Online Armour was on Matousec when it was owned by the original developer, Tall Emu. Emsi, which I have a low opinion of, now owns Online Armour and dropped independent testing, so I no longer regard Online Armour as a top security product.

#132, Whiterabbit-uk, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get your email. I always find Gmail to be the most reliable, although I have to occasionally check their spam folder. Since you requested a key in time, I would think that Agnitum would be able to send a new key, but they'll probably be swamped so I'm not sure that you'll get a replacement within the ridiculously short 2-day trial period.

#134, dan, I didn't have problems with an earlier version of Outpost and an earlier version of Returnil, it's probably something else.

#137, Deborah, yes, I'm sure that your computer and OS are 32-bit versions.

#155, J Ward, the downloaded file is corrupt. In those cases, clear your browser cache and download again.

#156, J Rose, that definitely sounds like a software conflict.

#158, Louis, you were trying to install the 32-bit version on a 64-bit machine, there was a separate download link for the 64-bit version.

#161, Not4u, if the option to Quarantine was selected, in the main window under Anti-Malware, Quarantine you can Restore the files.

#164, Rich, you can right-click the tray icon or open Settings, General; Registration is near the bottom right.

To #165 : You cannot paste the whole serial in one go. I tried.

Also, many specialized security programs work together just fine with general suits, although admittedly finding out which ones is a matter of try and see. My complaint is that Outpost doesn't even let me try, just flat-out refuses to install.

People keep mentioning Zemana. I don't post about things that I don't know about. An earlier version of Zemana wasn't compatible with an earlier version of Outpost Security Suite, so I skipped it during the giveaway. It was on Bits du Jour later, and I didn't pay much attention, but I was reading through the comments near the close of the offer. Zemana had an interesting article about a banking test. There wasn't time to test a trial download before the offer expired so I went ahead and ordered. When I installed Zemana, it gave my a warning about my Microsoft mouse driver (which it shouldn't have since it's signed by Microsoft). I rebooted and Zemana upgraded. I then ran all of the malware tests on Zemana's website and it completely failed on all of them (the malware tests ran without being blocked). I immediately informed Zemana about what had happened and the incompatibility with Outpost Security Suite (Win7x64) and they immediately refunded my purchase (they had sent me a license key but I never used it). So I knew long before I posted here that Zemana remains incompatible with Outpost Security Suite Pro.

I'm sorry to hear that people are having problems installing Outpost. First, many people ignored warnings to uninstall all other realtime scanners first, and reboot after uninstalling. The Windows Firewall and Windows Defender can be left alone. Outpost will turn off the Windows Firewall, and Windows Defender is compatible. Second, with any software installation there is always some risk that some people's systems will have damaged Access Control Lists or some type of incompatible software. Setting a System Restore Point is better than nothing.

Installation can take some time, wait for it. As I recall, Outpost gives you the option to reboot or open settings and reboot manually. I strongly recommend the second option to open settings. Under General settings, I recommend initially turning off Detect attempts to launch full-screen applications (Entertainment mode). When you're doing an initial installation, you want to minimize needless prompts, you can turn settings back on after initial installation. Under Anti-Malware, Removable drives scan, initially set Do not scan removable drives on connection. Again, this is just during initial installation to alleviate the scanning load on your PC. Under Real-Time Protection, initially set the Real-time protection level to Relaxed, this will significantly reduce the initial scanning load with little reduction in security since anything which executes will still be scanned. Under Actions for detected objects, set everything to Prompt, this will prevent false-positives from breaking things if you can correctly answer any prompts. Quarantine is OK since you'll be responding to prompts. I don't use the email scanner, but again I recommend using the least harmful settings, Cure Infected objects and Skip Suspicious objects. Since I use Windows 7 which prompts before allowing anything to autorun, I clear (disable) Enable removable media protection. Windows 7 will still allow some relatively safe types of autorun, such as opening documents, so make your own choice. I use webmail, haven't used POP3 in many years, so I don't use the Spam filter, which PC Magazine says is pathetic (sorry).

One of the options during the initial installation is to automatically train Outpost during the first week, I strongly recommend that option to reduce prompts (assuming that you're starting with a clean PC). You can turn that off or on at any time.

After setting the initial settings, wait for disk activity to go back to normal, Windows can get busy after software installations. Reboot.

The initial scanning after first reboot can take some time, wait for your PC and answer prompts as best you can. It can take a while for disk activity to return to normal, wait for it. After that, you can turn the more secure settings back on if desired.

I'm sorry that I didn't mention these things in time, but reports of problems weren't posted earlier. How well people's PCs respond to the initial scanning load depends upon the performance of their PCs.

I guess this will post too late to be of any value this time around, but there's nothing that I can do about moderation delays. Apart from not uninstalling other realtime scanners first, I suspect that a number of people reporting problems rebooted too soon (large installs always take time for Windows housekeeping even after the installer says it's finished) and/or were too impatient after the first reboot and initial scan, which can take a long time.

I know that there were other things which I had to say but I'll do that in another post.

To #163 1. You can paste the whole serial in one go.

2. This is true for installing any antivirus and security suites, you should completely uninstall any existing such software and then reboot, before installing the new software.

If you don't do this, chances are you computer will crash or work very slowly.

For what it's worth, however you can install Avira's free AntiVir alongside other security software - there is an option to install it without the realtime protection.

Installation:
1. The key site requests the promotion code in 5 pieces, forcing us to do 5 copy-paste operations from readme.txt. This is really one awkward interface.
2. The installation refused to work unless I uninstall all my other protections, like Avast. This is a game-stopper.

So no go. I am keeping the installation file and key just in case, but I cannot use this product.

Grrrr, I was working on some of my websites and all of a sudden in the background the scanner was running. This programs anti-virus auto deleted stuff I know that is NOT infected. Files I need and are important. How do I get these back because if I try and do a system restore, then I may not be able to get Outpost re-installed in time before the giveaway ends. These are critical files I need to get back.

This may be great software but I found the setup confusing, even with the nice start-up guide. As soon as I got it running the problems began. Many of my programs wouldn't even open and Outpost claimed that suspicious programs were trying to download from removable drives (none of which were connected). I couldn't view images or pdf files or listen to music or much of anything. As soon as I disabled it I could open programs again but everything was exceedingly slow. It has taken over two hours to un-install this, reload the Ashampoo program from the other day, and get my computer back to normal. I know it was probably something I didn't do right or a fluke with my computer but still, it shouldn't have been so messy and I was disappointed.

This sounded like a great suite, but when I installed in on my computer (Win XP Pro SP3) it locked up and would only boot into Safe mode when restarting. Uninstalled it in Safe mode and tried it again w/same results--would not boot up normally, only into Safe mode. So, uninstalled it again, and decided to stick with what I've been using so far. Thanks anyhow, but it seems not to be "universally" compatible.

To those who are afraid of trying a new virus or any software, I'd highly recommend RollBackRX which costs money, there is a free version under the name Comodo TimeMachine and I've found both to be the same program under different company names. That said, install that on your system (with a clean install preferrably) and you'll never have to worry about software messing your system up again since it takes perfect snapshots of your harddrive. There have been times I've run various configurations on my pc and I go back and forth between them using this program. One Caveat - don't tweak your system to shut down faster using programs that tweak your system as that will result in data loss. Other than that, that program in either incarnation really ought to be on everyones system.

This seemed like a pretty strong contender but since installing it (and registering for the code) it is giving me grief. The scanning of Thunderbird makes it so slow as to be almost unusable. I've had to disable it and seem to need to go back to a lighter weight application. And this is running on a i7 with 12 GB DDR3 and Win7 64 bit.

My first post. Good software and it took me hours trying and trying to download as usual until I scrolled down to this page and saw the notice from the GOTD team. All is well now. Registered!
To settle some arguments from above, I have currently installed and working fine:Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3
1)Comodo Internet Security
2)Mamutu
3)Ashampoo Anti-Malware
4)Outpost Security Suite Pro.
My PC crashed 3 times during the booting process as I refused to disable Comodo IS as the installation process insisted, and I have previously had the same mix of Comodo IS and Outpost Pro.

Both this computer and my other are 64 bit so am I going to have all the trouble people are posting about. The last thing I need is more trouble. Re #74

Just for the record Microsoft Security Essentials is an excellent Anti-Virus product that is free and it also happens to deal with some malware.

Used in conjunction with a weekly scan using MalwareBytes AntiMalware and a bi-weekly check with SpyBot (using up-to-date immunisation) and SuperAntiSpyware in reserve, and SpywareBlaster, together with Comodo free firewall set on safe mode and Comodo's Defense+ also set on safe mode, I can honestly say I haven't had the slightest of problems, except of my own making. Given that I daily browse free games sites, one of the riskiest internet areas, there can't be anything wrong with MSE + Comodo.

The old advice is the best, that is never run any .exe program from an unknown source and never ever do so with added admin privileges.

I won't be using today's GOTD as I'd have to uninstall MSE and Comodo and I simply can't afford any subsequent annual subscriptions!

Tried everything to get screen back and finally it came up on a power button press but mouse and action was at a crawl. Tried 15 minutes to shut system down but no go. Had to power off and on reboot OS was unable to bootup Windows 7. Tried again and failed so had to do system repair/restore. All my previous firewall and AV were uninstalled before installing this POS and now it will be difficult to get them back if even possible. Outpost was now gone also. I tried reinstalling Outpost and it again crashed after just a couple minutes and had to power system down as it was totally locked again. Outpost does not play well with others.... I suspect a conflict with another GOTD program - Returnil. Not happy with this one but it may be okay on some systems.
