This was only trial software?!?!?!? I just tried to use it again and it said my trial had expired. WTF Oront?

a nice simple "normal user" cd/dvd burning app. not many power user features though.
A fine effort GAOTD.

however i will stick with linux and k3b for burning discs of all flavours.

#73, the dump reads "CPU: GenuineIntel, Intel Pentium 4, MMX @ 0 MHz". Clearly, the problem is that the computer was never turned on.

#23, it does support dual layer (although I didn't test, as I'm out of dual-layer discs). Lightscribe is strictly labeling, that's generally done with external labeling programs (most burning packages are just a collection of utilities with a central UI).

i use Nero 7.7.5 all extras etc .. nothing will be as good or provide as much accessories as that imo... not for disc burning anyway .. if you dont have a disc burning program you use then tbh IMO Nero is a hard act to follow ..

a nice program to be offered however by GAOTD and shows the variety of programs they strive to provide .. i shall pass on it though but only because of the reasons above ;)

This is the first time since November last year I could not install a giveawayoftheday.

There is no virus in this program. I have avast too and it found nothing. Of course, my avast was updated before I downloaded and ran the program. Maybe try updating your virus program.
Looks like a nice program and if the feature that retrieves things off of corrupted discs works, then I will be a happy camper :)

Interestingly enough you can use the registration details with the install file downloaded from the oront home page, meaning you could probably install this software whenever you want, not just today only.

As with 'Total Network Inventory' given away several days ago, if you make a note of the serial number when installing this application, then go to Oront's home page:

http://www.oront.com/downloads.html

And then download the demo version of the basic program, you will then be able to install this product at any time, not just today. So for those who have to re-format their discs, this is one of the programs from the giveaway project (of which there have been quite a few) that you can reinstall anytime.

While I love the Nero software that came with my burner, I can't help thinking that the "basic-ness" of this program is what makes it such a good giveaway. It's perfect for people who don't make a hobby out of media-burning. If you just want to toss off the occasional CD or DVD, clear some stuff off your HD, or what have you - the simplicity of this wee softie can't be beat. It's a bit TOO simple to warrant a $25 price tag, though.

I have Nero 7 Premium so I don't need it either. With a collection of over 2000 popular softwares on my pirated CDs, I find GOTD products mostly useless :P However I have found Glary Utilities a good complementary product. Thanks GOTD for that one :)

Neither Oront Burning Kit 2, nor DeepBurner, nor CDBurnerXP Pro burn DVD movie files (.bup, .ifo, etc, in other words -> commercial movies) to DVD disks so you can play them on your DVD player. And none of them decrypt (although you can get around that).

The adverts on the front page of their websites suggest otherwise, but if you carefully read the manuals, the "functionality" details for these programs, it's there in black and white, albeit somewhat buried in the palaver.

The only program that will give you a DVD movie on a DVD disk that you can play on a standalone DVD player is Nero. And Nero has some serious "issues".

It takes time (intermittently, ~ hours) to make a DVD movie disk. And you need to know what you're doing (a fairly steep learning curve at first) to avoid ending up with a shiny "coffee-table coaster".

There are numerous sites where you can freely d/l almost any movie, including current releases. I d/led SM3 the other day done with a handheld camera in the theater. It's great! Good vid and audio, with a bonus, the couple sitting behind the pirate was - not watching much of the movie - complete with sound effects. These are rare these days, more time and risk to make them.

Of course, pirating (both maker and user) is illegal in most countries.

Fast download, no registration problems, burned in minutes. Easy to use. I haven't tried a DVD yet but very smooth operation with CD that I couldn't burn on WMP, Roxio, Grab & Burn or Real.
Thanks.

I've been messing around with this all day now and just can't recommend it for Vista Home Premium. It works fine on my XP that's on my laptop for both DVD's & CD's, but here's what happens on my Vista...It burns all that I want it to, but it only gets to 99% and says it's ejecting, but it never does. I waited 18+ minutes, so I tried to close it. Then it froze. I tried to play it on the Vista and it freezes the whole computer. I could take that same disk that I made on Vista and play it just fine on my XP Laptop. One thing I tried was to get on the laptop and burn some stuff from the Vista computer using the network. Everything burned just fine that way, but when I tried to play it on the Vista, it wouldn't even recognize that the DVD disk had anything on it. It didn't freeze, but it said it was empty. Again...that same disk played fine on XP. I'm so disappointed because I really love the simplicity of it and it does all that I need it to do. I give it a 10 for XP, but Vista 0. I just wish I could find a good program to work on the Vista. I came with Roxio, but I've been disappointed in it as well, for instance it won't burn all my documents, only part of them. It must have something to do with different formats, but I just can't figure it out since I'm no major geek by any means. If anyone could tell me why I'm having this problem, I'd sure appreciate it. To sum it all up, my XP thanks both Oront Software & Giveawayoftheday for the free software!

#11 and #21 - as well as the key itself, you have to enter the Resistration NAME as "Giveawayoftheday" - exactly as written there (capital G) (but without the inverted commas) else it will stay as a trial version and will run out. Entering Giveawayoftheday and then the registration key will activate registration immediately.

Just what I needed since my sonic recordNow has been out of order for a few months now. I've been wanting to reboot to factory settings, but haven't been able to burn all of my latest stuff, until now :)I just burned 2 dvd-rw's, completely full - no problems. Took about an hour for each one, 4.7GB - so not bad at all!

Does anyone know of a good way to get the activation codes from the harder to detect applications? I would be so grateful if someone could share this to tnt.info(at)gmail.com. I thought I could get them out of the temp files like you do when you watch a video, but I'd hate to wade through all of those files if this is not the case. I really want to be able to use some of this awesome software I have obtained from GAOTD, but worried that once I do the reboot I won't be able to.

#29, I have the same writer and it works fine with it.

BladedThoth, thanks so much for your thorough testing and reviews, very cool. Maybe if you know of an easy way to catch these activation codes, you might consider putting it on your review site?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out with this - very much appreciated :) !!!

The program went into the "Program not responding" mode a LOT for me.
Turns out I had a folder of icons [ 7,258 of them ] that would take it to the PNR mode every time I tried instead of adding them. I restarted the program MANY times and got really tired of waiting for the splash screen to disappear. Did not find a way to disable it. I finally added a different bunch of files, then burned a CD. It set the speed at 1.3X and took 2:31 to burn 22 meg. It didn't have an annoying animation all the time it was burning like Nero 7 does, and I did like that.
The CD I cut was good [ I seem to get a lot of coasters with the brand of CDs I have now........... ]
I was disappointed, but the uninstall went smoothly.

To those experiencing virus alerts with this and Avast, the fact that ONLY Avast (so far) is finding a trojan means its probably a false positive (ie Avast being stupid and calling a something a virus when it isn't).
If you want to be extra careful upload it to the VirusTotal (http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html) which will test it against many of the virus programs. I've just done so and 30 of the virus programs find NO virus, including Avast, so make sure your AV is up to date.

One more feature request for this app: to implement 'Normalization' option for Audio CDs.

To those content within the confines of their personal rut (i.e. forever loyal to one program) --The recipe for perpetual ignorance is: be satisfied with your opinions and content with your knowledge.

To those cautious types: --My super-efficient Trend Micro Anti-Everything Program did not detect any malware.

For those competitive types: --It is not trying to compete with heavyweights like Roxio (a personal favorite) or even Nero.

The Oront CD/DVD software does precisely what it claims: provides a quick, simplified, zero-stress method to record, transfer or erase information on CD or DVD.

That said, I found two distinct advantages:

1. Ease of use, making it a perfect choice for the novice

2. A minimalist interface, which simplifies every process

In this rapidly-shrinking world, those using English as a second (or third) language could easily navigate and utilize all features.

To the developers: --There are many bright, savvy youngsters visiting this site; they have already commented on various freeware programs that perform the same functions as Oront Burning Kit. Under those circumstances, perhaps you should consider a price range from $9.95 to $12.95 USD? You can remain competitive because there will always be people who will not risk downloading freeware (even with rave reviews).

To the Giveaway team: --Thank you for the opportunity to try yet another interesting program. To Oront developers: I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!

Oh .. to those interested: --My opening quote is attributed to Elbert Hubbard, US author, 1856 - 1915.

I remember trying out this burner some time before and now I see it here as a giveaway... I voted for it, because my 10-day trial results were overall satisfactory, and I could recommend this software to those who are seeking an alternative to monsterous Nero and need a simple yet functional CD/DVD burner with full ISO support (like myself).
My only complaint is that it woudn't always keep to the burning speed you set, sometimes running at 6x instead of 4x (for DVDs). So, those of you who find this critical rather wait until the devs fix it.

Thanks for offering it, I am a die hard Nero 6 fan. This would however be a fine program for those who do not have a basic burning software program or just want to try something different.

What we really need are programs that would convert from ANY video file source like FLV, MOV, WMV, AVI...etc into a DVD file , burn it into a DVD ...AND keep the audio and video in sync....if anyone knows of such a program...let me know....

Or does anyone offer a program that keeps audio and video in sync....that alone would be a fine giveawayoftheday.

Thanks for offering all this great software, whether we use it or not...it is appreciated!

Well, it does SHOW the price of the basic ($25) instead of the premium ($35) - unlike some times where the comparison price is a work of fiction, but I really can't see anyone being interested in the basic version, as compared to freeware like Infra Recorder, CDburnerXP, or the bundled OEM whatever that comes with a lot of drives.

It looks ok, I like the traditional 4-pane burning layout, but the field is not short of contenders.

Nice interface, clean organized, looks prime. Great use of newer media CD 700MB DVD 4.5GB DVD-HD 15GB & EVEN BLUE-RAY-25GB (Awesome I want blu-ray dont you!...) Anyway this is a nifty smooth program, in fact one of the best i have ever seen here at Give Away Of The Day, This is worth installing and is a nice alternative for me since i have Windows XP And recently installed what I think is the nicest operating sytem to date "Windows VISTA Ultimate Edition" And so not being able to run Nero (SONY Edition on my Vista setup i installed this "ORONT BURNING KIT 2" I burnt a FULL DVD of archived movies (about 6 movies in compressed format) approx. 10 hours of video content 4.6GB and it was comparable in speed to my customized Nero SONY DVD Edition V6 S.E. about 2 minutes slower, but hey it burnt it successfully and works great here. NE WAY YOU Decide, i have decided and ORONT BURNING KIT 2 is a welcome edition to my Vista domain, Thanks ORONT Software and Give Away Od The Day, finally a day of the week that something sweet, smooth, and very useful is given away!

9/10

The photos indicate that this is the premium version that we are getting. I downloaded it and started the install. However when the installation shows that it it the basic version that is actually being offered, I stopped. There are plenty of programs that do what you are offering in the basic version. You should back up your photos and be giving away the premium version

I have wrote an image from ISO file using the Data Burning Tool, therefore the software has this feature. (Recorder -> Burn Disc from Disc Image...), but I didn't found a way to set the burning speed manually, though it is set at the right maximum media speed automatically.

This does not work with the "HP DVD Writer 640b".

It doesn't recognize the drive as being a burner.

hi, i downloaded this program twice and each time my AVAST antivirus software told me there was a backdoor trojan (Win32:Trojan-gen{Other} in it and removed the installation file to the virus chest. Not that i needed another burner but i was curious as to its interface. Well i'll never know so i'll keep using my old faithful virus free software thanks. Cheers. Great site though, i've got quite a few games) free downloads off here and they've been fine. Thanks anyway.... c u round the net. *grins

To #11 and #21 perhaps you had the same problem I did (since I got the same result). I re-installed using a capital ("Giveawayoftheday" instead of "giveawayoftheday") and it registered correctly.
