Not bad this installation recording principle . It's different and it can be useful in certain situations.
We wrote an analysis on our blog www.forfreeoninet.co.cc
Thumb up, at least for its innovative side .
Thank you GAOTD !

Yrral, I had the same problem and in my case the home page was completely useless. Trie a reply through the newsletter address but got no reply. And this is a program I've been looking for. If it doesn't put paragraph marks after normal lines, it might replace ABBY PDF Transform Wizard I also got somewhere for free (Advanquest, I believe). Otherwise ABBY does a nice job, not like some trial versions of rather expensive tools I obtained before. Some really do trash the page layout and can only be used for plain text. But then, there is freeware for that.
So, GOTD, what's up?

I checked at 08:00 and saw the PDF-to-word application, considered and dismissed it as not for me.
Today I returned at 07:59 and saw Netstat listed, refreshed and was shown todays GAOTD. Was confused. Returned to PC after running errands to check what had happened to the recent GAOTDs and found these comments about PDF being pulled and Netstat substituted. So I've missed downloading Netstat which I would have considered useful.

You should definitely re-run this giveaway. My newsletter said the giveaway for the 14th was a PDF to word converter so I didn't even click it. Then I get the one for the 15th and at the bottom it says the 14th one was actually this program. Only 2hrs after the giveaway ends. Not a very good system if you ask me.

My first GAOTD download. Did it with about an hour to spare. Gave it a quick once over, and it looks good. Installed and seemed to work fine on my Vista Home Premium machine. Too late to give it a thorough test, though. Overdue for some sleep. Probably too late for this comment to do any good, also. Still, thanks GAOTD. :)

Um,sorry to see about the PDF 2 Word glitch, and for those that want these same tools and about 200 more(just about every network tool an admin or user could ever need) might I suggest Net Tools which I have been using for years to diagnose problems and comes with all the above tools plus a Subnet Calculator, tools for diagnosing email and FTP problems, literally more network tools than I could ever list. Oh and it is free,so you can hang onto it and pass it to your buds. Cheers!

Nice to see they pulled the non-working program and will re-offer it once it's patched.

By the way, a nice Print-AnyFiletype-to-PDF program (virtual printer) would be nice one of these days!

Even Better... a SCAN-to-PDF program!

Thanks for taking care of business and enjoy what's left of your weekend SLAVA.

As Fubar pointed out in post #6, this is a beta.
In Program folder, History file mentions
"April 5, 2008. Version 2.0 Beta

* The program are rewritten.

November 7, 2006. Version 1.7

* Feature added: country database is updated.
* Feature added: new buttons on the toolbar.
* Fixed bugs in monitor."

Installed fine on XP SP2 laptop.

Good tool, GOTD! Many thanks!

Installs and runs as flawlessly on Win Vista Home Premium (doing Ac[t]ivate and Setup as Administrator) as on Win XP Home.

Beats having to open a CLI window and type (or mistype and correct) ipconfig /all or ping or nslookup or tracert as much as I've been in the habit of doing.
Gave it a thumbs up :-) .

This downloaded OK with VISTA HOME PREMIUM and ZipGenius 6. When I activated it, I got the GAOTD "NetStat Agent activated - what next?" screen, but the NetStat thing said it was just a 30-day trial version. I tried to redo it and do it as the administrator as Fubar (comment 6) suggested, but I can't find any way to do that.

Will it expire in 30 days? If so, how can I redo this differently?

I for one, am happy to see today's Giveaway. It's so much more convenient than typing commands or using sites, and neither typing commands or using sites allow continuous monitoring. Hopefully, this will help me pinpoint the source of an intermittent connection problem I sometimes have.

NetStat Agent installed and works fine on both my xp and vista machines.

As for the person looking for pdf to word converters, here are two links for freeware pdf to word converters, hope that helps!

To be honest, a lot of the information it provides is a bit over my head. But, it sure beats having to pull up DOS commands to view the same information. Also, once again, because of the friendly user interface it is much less threatening to click around and try stuff. I am particularly happy that the Help Button offers at least brief explanations of the various results. I’m going to keep this one and learn as much as I can about how to use it and the results it offers. The friendly user interface gives me much more confidence to tinker around. I believe this will be very useful for me. Thanks GAOTD and NetStat Agent.

Another program, WhatsRunning, shows the same info plus running processes & subprocesses (right-click to find more info), services (with status), startup programs (with enable/disable), drivers, and system info. An excellent program for everyone's computer.

Check out the screenshots for all the things it will do. Plus, it's FREE (a favorite on here), requires no registration, and runs from a flash drive. You can download it from their site (needs email address) or many other sites.

PDF-to-Word problem is acknowledged and there will be a working software build available this week. Both we and the software publisher are sorry for this problem, and we will do our best to fix it asap. We had to do a giveaway switch since we couldn’t fix the package fast enough in the middle of a weekend.

If you really want to know what programs are trying to do on your pc - this is a good way to begin to learn.

Programs access the net without your knowledge and without your control, and I despise any sneaky activity.

Just download and try this - you may be surprised about what is really going on and especially when your pc is running slower than usual. And since software developers decide if they want you to know with M$ task manager - a real BS info tool.

I'm not saying this is the best software but it free to try without 30 day limitations and you may learn how damn sneaky developers can be. Just do a system restore point if you are in doubt before installing and you can securely delete and you will learn a lot.

Thanks for reading,
Ken

This is a question for Slave (GOTD Team). Whats wrong with the PDF to Word converter? I installed it at about 3:45 a.m. & it has performed flawlessly for me. One more if you don't mind. Whats up with your moderator? If you need help moderating comments, let me volunteer. I have a very fast connection, am retired & spend hours each day at my computer.

I thought I did not need this program, as I currently have a single computer connected to the web, but I tried it anyway. Wow, this thing is really powerful! I think I need to take a course to take advantage of all this program can do! It is very full featured, even for my simple configuration! I did not know there was a way to directly identify all the junk flowing through my computer while online.

The feature that stands out for me, is the ability to identify and block any connection of your choosing, automatically! Of course, you do have to identify it first, and create a rule. In theory, you could block adds on a page that way (not an efficient approach to add blocking though, as adds have many sources). I could see using this to block a rogue connection, like if there is a site I MUST access, but Google and other filters tell you the site has malware, I think you could identify the connection of the malware with this, and create a rule to automatically block it, while safely using the site. It'll take some work to setup, no doubt.
In spite of the features of the program I do not fully understand, the program looks very user friendly, nice graphical interface.

I woke up early this morning and thought I'd get a jump on download of the day. The software build for the PDF converter wasn't ready for primetime. It wouldn't activate. It looked promising though. My Family Tree Maker exports most reports to PDF for some reason and the PDF converter did short work of the conversions. Maybe I can download it again in a few day.

i've been looking for something like that has all-in-one program for a long time. yes, it is true that i can use those links
- Open Ports: http://www.download.com/Active-Ports/3000-2085_4-10062969.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10121832
- Whois detabase: http://whois.net
- DNS Tools: http://www.dnsstuff.com/

but since i am a webmaster and owns my own website, i do site maintainenace everyday include checking suspicious ip addresses. dns tools used to allow users to use all of their features free of charge. now they require that you pay membership to use them. it sucks. so i this software better. saves me the trouble for using 3 different websites and not be compromised by dns tool lack of services for free.

To answer #3 about the missing pdf-to-word converter: I believe there was a problem with the software. Last night, I downloaded, installed, and reviewed it and it turns out that it was a limited version. In my review I said that I hoped it was an oversight on GAOTD'S or the publisher's part. I'm glad they stepped up and fixed it. In this case, the fix was a swap to another program since I don't think the publisher could configure a completely working version for GAOTD in a few minutes in the middle of the night. I believe this was the only way to avoid a complete meltdown of the comments section.

GOOD JOB GAOTD!

[By the way, in my review, I liked the resulting conversions of the software but the performance had issues. I'm seriously hoping that they can work out the bugs because there is a need for good pdf-to-word converters.]

Downloaded & installed it with no problems (using XP). The program is small and responsive. The GUI is clean overall and the interface seems stable. I've yet to run into any hangs or crashes.

Using the task manager I found that for the most part, Net State Agent had small- average size footprint on the system resources. Memory: 6000K, Page faults: 36,335, Virtual memory size (VM): 17,000K, and handles at about 300.

Net State Agent includes most of the basic networking tools packed into an organized column on the left with much data on the right. Being a seasoned networker I had to look up some of the values present. Finally it includes shortcuts to command prompt, regedit, and sys info.

I have a mixed review of the help file/support. Some of the articles are well written while other remains sparse. On the flip side I found the pics and overall layout to be a nice addition. The support center online is a copy of the help file. I would have liked to seen more info included there.

Overall I like this program and recommend downloading it and taking it for a spin. Only you can decide whether or not it will benefit you. There are of course other tools and well as freewares that do this but I like having all the tools in one simple app. Finally using a GUI program of CLI programs keeps the information organized and easy to view. The only improvement I would ask this that more options be included under options.

My verdict: Thumbs ups

Great Network tool - Nicer interface than some of the freebies mentioned in other posts. IF you know what you're looking for, tools like this MAY reveal connections to malware providers who may be trying to hijack your computer's network bandwidth and CPU cycles. Also great to see what's whittling away at your performance. Since it's offered for free - this is a great deal - grab it while you can.

Moron gallery: Please save us the "I don't know what it is so I didn't download it thumbs down" idiocy that you fill these comment pages with on a daily basis. If you haven't actually downloaded and tried it - DON'T POST.

Most of the functionality in this program is already included in the Windows console. Start --> Run (or Windows menu --> Search) and run "cmd" to open a command prompt.

NetStat Agent            Windows
---------------------------------------------
NetStat                  netstat
IPConfig           ipconfig /all
Ping             ping <hostname>
TraceRoute    tracert <hostname>
Route                route print
ARP                       arp /a
Whois              (not included)
HTTP monitor       (not included)
Statistics            (see below)

Except for the Whois tool and HTTP monitor, all this functionality is already included in Windows. For the "Statistics," right-click on your task bar and go to Task Manager, to the Networking tab. For Whois, I'm partial to Necrosoft Whois. You can easily add whois servers as you need them (such as for RIPE, AfriNic, LACNIC and so on -- the IANA does add registrants, from time to time). The DIG program there is also useful (think "nslookup" on steroids).

I’m glad to see that others were perplexed, wondering what happened to "PDF To Word Converter". I installed it very early this morning, and it didn’t take long before I ended up send the program to Revo (the king of uninstallers). This is the comment I posted afterwards:

“The name of the program, “PDF To Word” is a bit of a misnomer; “PDF to RTF” would be accurate. The converted PDF does not come out as a *.doc file and there are no options to convert it to that type of file. Now if that wasn’t bogus enough, when the converted *.rtf is opened in Word, any of the active hyperlinks in the PDF document, are no longer active. A person would have to manually change the properties of every single hyperlink in the converted document. Summing it all up, PDF’s are not converted to *.doc files, any active hyperlinks in the original PDF are no longer active, and the price is $49.95. Never mind that it’s free today because even at that price it’s too much. This program is an affront! It’s a real world practical example of “there’s a sucker born every minute”, and this program targets those innocents.”

Netstat Agent is a cute program that packages several functions in an easy to use interface.

Yes, there are loads of free programs that manage the same individual tasks, but using most of them is hardly friendly to the average, casual PC user. And yes, there are programs that give you more in-depth info than the functions included in Netstat Agent, but whether that extra info matters to you is another story.

Netstat Agent keeps to itself, with 11 files taking up ~ 5.6 mb in 1 folder plus start menu shortcuts. A couple of registry keys store the lic. key & configuration data (what options you've set).
