Regarding #92 ... I have a screen capture of the original message (a regular practice of mine). The original message said nothing about "Except GOTD Users". I see they now have added that to the new message.

On a positive note ... They eventually answered the request for help and have helped me restore my previous GOTD Version.

Here's further info on the v. 2.9 update.

According to Neodownloader support, the announcement on the upgrade was following:
http://www.neodownloader.com/repository/new-version-available/

Actually, GOTD users are not entitled to free upgrade.

Same problem as #90 here.

I got at least an aswer from NeoDownloader support.
Here it is:

Where have you read that 'update 2.9 that should be free for GOTD users'?

Please visit http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/neodownloader-2-8-1/
Where you can read:

"Terms and conditions

Please note that the software you download and install during the
Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations: 1) No
free technical support; 2) No free upgrades to future versions; 3)
Strictly personal usage."

Also, when you installed NeoDownloader from GAOTD, you agreed with the
license - "no free updates, no free technical support, etc". Have you
read it?

Please let me know if you have any questions.

With best regards,
Alexey Surkis

Very impressed with the software. Also very impressed with the company's LACK of support.

I installed and registered the software and used it for a couple of days. I then received a message saying there was a minor and FREE update to the registered software. I installed it and the program reverted back to Trial Mode. I've sent two emails to the company and have not received so much as an acknowledgement of my email. BAD.

Very unimpressed. I wouldn't buy their product based on this alone.

I tried another batch downloader which I like much better, the current version of a former GOTD offering, Extreme Picture Finder (but it's not taking my purchased lifetime license key). According to its logs, #7, Kao Dome's linked site isn't returning the JPEGs to external automated batch downloaders, you have to do it manually, use their paid service, or attempt to use macro automation.

Unable to download, run the .exe, and the app says “Activating” and then outs “Failed to connect. Please try again later.”

I get tired of sites that do this…

after years of trouble free downloading

i get this all the time now

Fast and easy to use. No bloat. Installation file just 2.5MB (after removal of gotd wrapper). Kept and installed on laptop as well as desktop.

It has a bandwidth management preference... so you can limit the number of connections and max. download speed. Excellent if you have a lot of downloading, it can do it in the background will you continue to use the PC and web.

I was able to easily set up a customer filter to download PDF files from a pdf repository. After 5 minutes I had a thousand+ pdfs. ready for me to review.

EXCELLENT!

Easy to install on WIN 7 64 bit system very feature packed for what it does. I was a longtime user of previous versions of this product it is super fast and allows you to preview the images as they come in via the slideshow feature. Allows you the option to save as the file structure of the page or all in one master image file. Works well with videos of almost all types and just about any kind of graphic. I can't begin to describe how many hours this program has saved me in the past. This is a very welcome keeper for me thank you GOTD and the folks at NEOWISE for sharing a great product and happy holidays to all!

The software downloads, but after it's unzipped and I click on the Setup.exe file, I get an "Activating" window and nothing else happens. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with software from GOTD and since this is one I really would like to have, I'm irritated.

I don't understand why the software will activate but not give me the chance to install it.

Ideas, anyone? I can't say it's "an easy install" when it's the most confusing one I've ever encountered and I'm pretty smart tech wise. Looks like Neo is not a setup or software I'll waste time on and I won't say I'll go out buying it. What a let down.

After using this for a while I can say that when it works, it does work well. Downloads are fast and well organized. There are a few sites however, that only download the thumbnails and not the linked photos. They probably use an 'active' resident program rather than windows links to call the photos. But that is OK - for the most part it does workquite well. Thanks GAOTD

As parents want teachers to raise their children but of course not discipline them. You should make this program family friendly so parents again don't have to do any work. Maybe parents should watch what their children are doing as opposed to using the computer and TV as baby sitters. God forbid the parents make the children go out side and play and interact with other children and not just text their friends. If this program lets what parents call inappropriate sites to down load, maybe they should do some PARENTING. Oh maybe the parents should just get a time out. The program is fine as it is.

#76. James:

I had a similar experience with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I was so disappointed I was not able to try several GOTD recently because of the same issue. Yesterday, the issue was resolved after I disabled first Mamutu Behavior Based Malware Blocker installed on my system before I started the install process. It worked!

Try first to disable temporarily any antimalware guard you have on your system before you proceed with the installation.

If that does not work yet, try to run the installation as Administrator.

I hope that helps.

Went in like Butter, totally auto activated with no copy and paste of any activation codes necessary on Vista.

I DID get a notice from Avast and it auto activated in the sandbox. I wasn't worried.

Those who can't install, unzip everything in the archive in a folder before trying to run the executable.

Tried to get a few of the freebie recommends from Softpedia, all dead links.

I don't understand what someone is saying about the thumbs up vs comments. There is a 7 to 1 ratio of thumbs up vs thumbs down. Usually it's the OTHER WAY. I don't see that many negative comments and this is an uncommon class of offering.

Thanks for info on Orbit Downloader which should do Youtube and streaming downloads for those who asked. http://www.brothersoft.com/download-orbit-downloader-54366.html

Thanks for the program and the many great comments.

When this worked, it worked amazingly well, but it didn't recognize common audio and video file types on some web pages. On other pages, it did. I usually use Orbit and used Flashget before that. Both are more intuitive than Neodownloader. Neodownloader is faster when it works, and it's sufficiently useful that I will keep it, but it's too quirky for me to pay $29.95.

I am not bothered personally by the adult content in the Repository, but if I had children using my computer, I would not be impressed by how simply they could gain access to that content. At least password protect that area....

XP SP3
v2.8.1 build 162

installs to directory of your choice, 3MB, all in one directory
some "templates" are installed to \user\current\Application Data

includes CHM help file

running "Setup.exe" sets the license to GiveAwayOfTheDay

so this is a website "spider"
would think that HTTrack would be an alternative (& there are Mozilla extensions which
utilize HTTrack too)

fully resizable interface; all windows/frames
Stop, but no Pause, but then there is a Resume, so in the end, it is the same result
includes media preview (but it pictures or video or music)

downloaded media is sorted by name, & also shows properites & size, but not sortable.

after initially openig the program, & saying "now what", once you enter a URL for a
project, things are mostly self-explanatory

Wizard auto fills in URL from clipboard & smartly names the Title

you can set it to scan before downloading anything, BUT:

it only lists (& then auto-scrolls) the (set number of) simultaneous connections (5 by
default) so that is all you can see at any one time. & they scroll by quite rapidly,
so not of much use in that respect.

would be better if the listing were separate, such that you could view pages full of
links at once. (by seeing ahead, you might find where you're going "deeper" then you
would have wanted to. similarly no method to interactively select, deselect anything
once things get underway. (you can filter by various means prior.)

IOW a log of some sort, in general, would be nice. & then a log that you can work with
to make selections would be even better.

would be nice to open files in an external app, but doesn't seem to be a way to do it
directly. (you can Open Destination Folder, & do it from there, but that's not
particularly convenient.)

looks to work well, doing what it says
been ages since i've looked at httrack, so can't say how it compares?

used indiscriminately, suppose you could download the entire Internet :-)

"HTTrack"
http://www.httrack.com/

there is a "lite", limited, free version available
http://www.neodownloader.com/full-vs-lite/

didn't see a changelog (compared to earlier versions)?

i thought the days of thumb-bombing were over. Apparently not.

Whether the developer is responsible for the HUGE disparity between the comments here and the 'thumbs up' total shown at the top of the page, I don't know. But that red-flags today's GAOTD for me as it may well do for many other regulars who have seen examples of this kind of thing in the past, and stayed well clear as a result.

My apologies to today's developer if it's the case that what is happening to the thumbs is the work of a few morons entirely unconnected with Neowise. But a comment thread beginning with an opening post as suspect as that from 'Dan' (thousands of photos in minutes, mark you: not thumbnails) inspires no confidence at all.

Thanks GAOTD. But no thanks.

Great software including viewer (stumble upon a few tricks such as roll mouse wheel to advance and sometimes hidden bar above. First thing I deleted all the military folders and files.

Also allows using your own viewer(s) which it cleverly located! Has options to easily access folders to manage and also single preview and view.

Try funnysite.org which has great movies. I quickly stopped after 21 and viewed. Oh how sweet! You will laugh loudly!!

It seemed a reasonable first approach to direct this program at one of my own sites, which happens to have quite a few jpg files in numerous folders.

It found all the jpg files in two folders that happened to be created this past weekend. No sign whatsoever of any older files.

At this point I'm not sure if I misunderstand the functionality of this software, or if it simply isn't working correctly.

Easy way to contaminate your computer with viruses or malware using this software. You lose control of what is being pulled and saved on your hard drive when doing bulk downloads.
Some pictures contain hidden short cuts to other unfriendly web sites that can wreck havoc, if you ever try to see the picture that was downloaded without your knowledge.
Also, there are lot of copyrighted pictures that may put you in trouble if you download and use without permission from the owner.

Installation of Neo Downloader was quick but awkward. Both Neo and Setup.exe activated my default browser at awkward times; that took some juggling. It may be possible, with a lot of reading, to get Neo downloader to do what you want it to do, but I found that it kept doing what it wanted to do. The program, when in use, placed an icon in the upper right corner of my screen, which made it very difficult to shut down the program. I gave Neo the URLS of an astronomy site which is loaded with gorgeous images which are available for download. Neo scrolled through a long column of titles and URLs and finally downloaded - Four. Tiny. Thumbnails. I'm about to unsubscribe from GAOTD. I don't want to have my time wasted by any more like this one.

@19 As a church organist you have to learn hundreds of hymns, many of which have numerous tunes. You could go to a website and click through half a dozen pages to get ONE midi file of one tune for one hymn that you can listen to and print sheet music from. If you're smart you use a program like this and download the whole website. If they don't have meaningful names you try another website till you get one that does name the files with names you can search. Substitute any number of work related things and you can do the same for various jobs.

Good free alternative that I used is WinWSD WebSite Downloader. Cnet describes it as

A rare find in this genre, WinWSD WebSite Downloader is a freebie that is a snap to use and does what it promises.

One of the first things you should do when downloading software from GAOTD is look at the read me file included. None of the software is update-able usually but a lot of it will automatically check for updates at the end of the install you have to UN-check it or cancel it.
Then when the program runs go in settings or tools or whatever and change any options for update so it does not automatically update.
if it does you'll most likely lose your free program...
