Number 19 - I dont know why citing freeware is meaningful, it doesnt make it better, faster or somehow more superior.

The reason why is that the comments make the point that the free stuff does the job as well as or better than the commercial versions.

This program does work as intended but its current program code seems a bit unstable as I've encountered several times the message of "this program is not responding"

It seems that it slightly handles computers with more then one processor core not as optimally as it should. They need to work on this.

Also I did not care for the current interface of the program, it was to bland and boring to look at, I can use the word simplistic, but sometimes that means in a way that still may confuse the user as on how to operate the software.

I'm not saying this is a bad piece of software I'm saying that its poorly optimized and I can't find anymore explanation on why it is. Perhaps in version 3.0 they can rewrite their code and make a prettier to look at interface that implys simplicity , but easy to use and more feature rich.

Gotta say, I've never had an issue installing GOTD offerings, but with only a couple hours left I still haven't received an email... I'd like to test it out and give an opinion, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well folks, I endured the insane registration procedure (you don't even have to go through hurdles like that even for software costing many thousands of dollars). I ignored the developer's advice to disable my firewall and anti-virus ......... what a nerve of them! If they can't code within usual parameters I am NOT going to make my system vulnerable for some lousy video converter. At that point I was just going to say "forget the whole thing, sorry I offered to evaluate this piece of shoftware ( ;) )

Okay... I calmed down. Installed just fine... both emails went to my SPAM folder (I think that tells one something about the company's reputation). Then I was ready to take it for a spin.

Using a short AVI clip, I found that it did indeed create a good result with audio and video synching just fine. However, here are my more critical observations:

- the original audio was AAC stereo. This software by default offered to make it MONO... no thanks. Go to "Advanced Settings" and choose Stereo. At this point I was hoping to see that I could leave the audio as AAC or choose MP3 + bitrate etc. Nope. No such control. The output ended up being MONO anyway !

- the initial choice of devices to convert to is extremely limited as all you get are the choices of several brand name devices. Don't have an iPhone, or Android, or Palm device? Too bad, you're SOL.

- but hey, they have a choice of skins! Uglier ones I have never seen before. Sorry Mr. Developer, you didn't mention that you are visually impaired or colour-blind

I have to admit that this is one of the worst travesties of PC programming I have ever seen foisted upon a paying market.

Now you may well disagree with me on my opinions, and that's totally fine. But in the final analysis, this just does NOT work for me, so right after I hit "submit comment" ... I am submitting Mobile Video 2.0 to the oblivion of the trash bin with no hope of ever being revived.

Attn: GOTD Team -- Re: Your Comment #3: No VideoMizer Discount

I was very pleased by your comment stating that the developer offered a 75% for VideoMizer and PhotoMizer. But I think you are mistaken.

I tried to buy VideoMizer for the discount...but no discount seems to be offered.

I clicked on the '75% Discount' ad listed first under "More titles from Engelmann Media". It ultimately took me to an order form listing these titles: freeTunes, MakeMe3D, CDRWIN 9, Simply Good Pictures, Android Converter, DVR Converter 3, and CinemaHD 2. VideoMizer and PhotoMizer were absent from the list of discounted titles.

I clicked on the VideoMizer ad under "More Titles", but it took me to the developer's web page offering VideoMizer for FULL price at Euro $49.99. Clicking on the Buy button took me to an order form charging full price.

Again, I don't see any discount offered for VideoMizer and PhotoMizer.

GOTD Team, if the Developer meant to offer a discount, please arrange to make that discount available to me and your GOTD audience.

Thank you!

XP SP3
Video v2.0, Version 2.11.713

(i had to use a copy downloaded from engelmann as the GAOTD version
will not install sandboxed on XP)

uses MSI installer

during setup, the "theme" pictures & the selector orders are reversed.
picture order: green, blue, orange
selector order: orange, blue, green

installs into directory of your choice, 3 MB
PLUS:
a 1.3 MB installer in \Windows\Installer
& 41.2 MB codec related files in \Program Files

windows /is/ resizeable

/includes/ CHM HELP file

geared towards sizing to a specific device
rather then having generic "sizes" (resolution, bitrate, ...)
that you can manually choose, so makes this less "generic" or
at least harder to use in a generic fashion
there is some leeway (it varies) depending on your selected
output device format

has a bitrate/file size "calculator" (estimator)

it is not limited to a DVD source (as my impression from the
website gave me)
you can open a local file in various formats

would be nice if the "Quality:" slider showed the actual
settings it was choosing

bitrate calculator should be smarter, like if your source
is only a few minutes, it should preset the Duration (because
unless you cut a clip or add more, it isn't going to change)

once you start the conversion, it does display some of this
information, but it would be nice to have had it ahead of
time

selecting Quality "high" for an iPad chooses a bitrate of 1600
which may or may not be appropriate given the source file
bitrate - it could be way overkill

it took a 33 MB mov & converted it to a 4 MB mp4, & it looks
fine & audio was in sync

no timeline on the cut/snapshot preview

it will automatically increment the filename on an overwrite
condition

only does one cut (per file?)

converting a 1.8 GB mov to mp4 looks like its going to take
some time on my computer, using ~67% cpu (dual core)
finally - output to a 157 MB mp4, looks OK to me

works
noted above is the tie-in to the machine hardware
can't say that would sit well with me

Expensive commercial software that's going nowhere from a German developer which at this rate will also be going nowhere. There is neither need nor niche for this kind of paid-for app any more, not when a host of freeware apps already use the same root technology and do exactly the same thing (up to and including Engelmann's much-vaunted 'bespoke' settings -- aw, c'mon, from Handbrake through to FormatFactory it's long been possible to determine one's own preferences and parameters. And as for those new to this kind of software, it takes no more than a couple of minutes on Google to ask, what is the ideal setting for this, what is the ideal setting for that, etc etc.)

Engelmann (today's developer) has been around for a while but its days are numbered if its CEO and coding team think that anyone with a functioning brain cell would pay even $2.00 for this, never mind $24.99. Thanks GAOTD, but definitely, no thanks.
