Now i'm shifted by the way you dealt with this particular issue. It isn't often I encounter a website together with participating articles or blog posts such as the one you have. I am going to take note of your current supply to remain current along with forth-coming revisions. Only striking and also perform continue inside the solid perform.

Anyway. I like this software although I agree with the comment that it slows down WOW. Also. I found no viruses in this installation.

All in all I would give it a 7.

Fascinating concept.

Only issue I see is while moving mouse around in a document, a user might recreate a mouse gesture and inadvertently launch an application.

Besides LAUNCHY I suggest you trying FASTKAKE!!

FastKake will create a set of handy and useful shortcuts which will give you full control of your Windows operating system and simplify your computing life. There will be shortcuts to quickly shutdown/reboot/standby/hibernate the computer, lock the desktop or logoff the current user. There will also be shortcuts to empty the recycle bin, close all windows, quickly compose and send an email, launch default browser, launch default email client, open/close your cd drive, disable/enable your screensaver, add/remove programs, device manager, search for files and folders, launch word, excel, powerpoint, notepad, etc. etc. FastKake is small in size (~120kb), requires no installation and does not modify your system.

And BEST OF ALL IT'S FREE!!!

This is the "launcher" I use:

http://www.smartdesktop.co.uk/

In fact I found it as a way to organize my cluttered desktop. It lets you create sections so you can put related shortcuts in the sections. You can drag and drop from the desktop directly.

The only con of smartdesktop is it doesn't work well in Vista (the shortcuts dropped from the desktop won't disappear).

I have used RocketDock in Vista but it doesn't have sections to organize your shortcuts, so I will replace it if someone here recommends something like smartdesktop.

#69 Dan -

"I don’t see any reason whatsoever that this can’t be tested for Windows 3.1, the requirements are never specific, sometimes developers even just post estimated requirements based on what system was available to them during the testing period."

Let me give you one good reason why giveaways will not run on Windows 3.1 - it is 16 bit code only (Win32S doesn't count). All the software being offered is native 32 Bit software. NONE will function on anything below Win95 - and more often the minimum platform is Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Many of the newer requirements have dependencies on .NET Framework or recent versions of DirectX which is not available on the GUI's running over Dinosaur DOS.

Future troll/spam/joke posts about DOS or Windows 3.1 compatibility that I come across will just be removed. If you want to attempt an intelligent discussion on the topic - please take it to the forums.

Thanks. :)

Have to jump in on the 3.1 debate here. No, don't think the comment is a joke. Post shouldn't be deleted. Even if not specified, sometime it still works. At least is information relating to the program. Although agree that the number of users is low and probably closer to #59's calcs.

Then 80% of the comments posted here should be deleted.
That's censorship.

I'd prefer to read all opinions and make my own decision. Some of the programs that I've found most useful have had the largest number of thumbs down. But after reading all the comments, saw that it did have needed functionality. On dial up with limited daily access, can't waste the time to download if others say likely not to work or has problems.

Also very much like that people offer alternatives. Pepsi or Coke or 7-UP.... not everyone's tastes are the same. Will look at some of them and made own decision as to which works better. Even the posts [prior days] that say, "not needed, built into system..." find very useful as many have not realized or known how to do.

So thank you GOATD for this service. Didn't vote on todays, nor am I going to DL as don't see that I have a use for it. But again, that came after reading all comments which explained more what this program does and how it works.

WOW! I'm *really* surprised no one has mentioned (Humanized) Enso.

Introduction to Enso:
Having to change programs to perform simple tasks—for example, making a quick calculation, or looking up a definition—breaks your concentration, takes you away from the task at hand, and wastes your valuable time. Enso lets you do common computing tasks easier and faster than ever before. You get a huge productivity boost and a simpler digital life. And now that Enso is free, it won't cost you a penny.

Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal explains:
Enso is dead simple to use. You just hold down the Caps Lock key and type an Enso command, which is displayed in a translucent overlay. Once the command is typed, you simply release the Caps Lock key to activate it, and the overlay disappears. If you type fast, it all happens in a flash. For instance, to launch the Firefox Web browser, you just hold down the Caps Lock key and type "open firefox." To look up the meaning of the word "proclivity," you just hold down the Caps Lock key and type "define proclivity."

I just want to note, regarding the Windows 3.1 discussion, that the reason this specifies Windows XP is probably because of some issues with transparency in windows, amongst other reasons, but I don't see any reason whatsoever that this can't be tested for Windows 3.1, the requirements are never specific, sometimes developers even just post estimated requirements based on what system was available to them during the testing period. Thanks.

Win-DOS 3.1? Seriously? Wow.
Now "WinDoze" that's funny.
Windows is really windoss, get it? Heh heh: "Win DOS" (sounds like Windows even).
Hmm, the poster #16 said Win95 and Win98 were... aren't they shells running over DOS?
Yes, 2000NT and XP are new, about as new as UNIX, I am guessing here; I heard that B.Gates bought, way back when, stop me if you have heard this, for IBM, an operating system called
QDOS or Quick and Dirty Operating System. Single user, single program, no multitasking.Because they calculated it would take IBM years to come up with an OS. Now Mac and XP are maybe a bit (pun) closer to UNIX?
About the mouse tails: Close Combat (years and years ago when I tried it), go to Closecombatseries.com, doesn't run well with mouse pointer tails,so some games are still affected by mouse trails? Must be a lot of code in common, and come to surmise, could that giveaway of the day program be using quite a lot of Trojan code?

Hope I am not straying off topic, but I do enjoy readers'comments, couldn't resist saying something myself, after all it is the end of the day here in Montreal.
Regards All.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Launchy yet. I think it's a much better program than this, because it automatically indexes all the applications in your start menu, and you don't have to remember any mouse gestures, but just type what you want. Usually it'll know what you need after the first couple characters, so all you have to type is, for example "no" and it'll show notepad. It's also got other features like browsing through your file system, launching websites and an inline calculator.

My greatest misgiving: I'll be in the middle of, say, gathering products all over the screen in a tightly timed level of Farm Frenzy 2, and the mouse movements will be interpretted by mgLaunch as a call to action. Maybe there are safeguards in the software, but I'm skeptical.

Can anyone answer this concern?

I've never posted before but after reading several people say there is a trojan in today's software, I'll be thinking TWICE or THREE times even before downloading again, especially when about 3 weeks ago I downloaded some anti spy software and all of a sudden my computer starts acting up... upon deep searching, I found my computer had a trojan on it that wasn't there before... I never thought nothing of it coming from GATD... know all I can say is... who knows?... maybe it did.

PeterM, I agree with #28, but I might be able to say it a little more directly than ebax. If you must, please only post when it works on an old platform. That might be useful.

Because I don't believe PeterM will read this and I because I believe he's just doing a lame joke, anyway:

Moderators: please make an exception and ban his 3.1 comments because they unfortunately end up taking up board space with all the responders who get sucked in to actually debating this nonsense. He's even got one of the all time best posters Bubby doing it now.

PeterM, please don't post anymore that it doesn't run on Windows 3.1. If this is not just a silly joke, then you're posts are still not helping anyone. If you're serious, you're extremely likely to be the only one who would come to this looking for software to run one old platforms. There are plenty of sites out there with plenty of freeware that runs on 3.1 and dos and 95, etc., and it's EVERY day. No one is going to develop software that's going to run on these platforms, except by accident, because THEY CAN'T MAKE ANY MONEY.

#3 - News Flash Peter! 'millions of people using 3.1'

I own a web hosting company that contains more then 200 websites. I just did a check to see how many Windows 3.1 users have visted the 200 websites in the last 30 days. As of right now, there have been 1.2 million visitors to these sites.

Of those, there is a total of 3 hits that came from Windows 3.1 users.

So based on that... Here's the calculations of people using 3.1:

- If the entire population of earth had a computer (every man women and child), there would be an estimated 17,500 people running Windows 3.1 on the entire planet.

- If you knock out about 4 of the 7 billion people who don't own computers, now you're looking at maybe 7,000 people in the world.

- I'm sure at least 95% of those are from third world countries who don't have access to any internet at all. So in the industrialized part of the world I'd estimate about 350 people who actually use 3.1.

- At the time that Windows 3.1 emerged, very few people were on the internet. It was mostly BBS systems. I think it's safe to say that 75% of the people have a 14.4 baud modem or less and probably don't even pay for dialup (it would take a day for Google to load)

- That leaves us with about 70 people who could possibly even connect to the internet and see your review. Now... The chances of any of those 70 people even looking to try to download software for their Windows 3.1 machine is SO ASTRONOMICALLY LOW that I would be surprised if any other person (other then you) has ever even heard of GOTD. And even if they did, most would have the common sense to realize that no developer on earth would spend 5 minutes coding for something compatible with 3.1.

So that is why your reviews are pointless. It's probably also why the mods delete your posts.

*takes a bow*

I thing I would like to dispute (kind of) about what Bubby posted though:

It is all about knowing what is being detected - and what you know about the software - and asking is this unusual, or the sort of thing I would expect - given the software I am installing.

Would it not make sense for a virus "developer" to hide a virus behind a program that you would "expect" to be picked up by antivirus? I know if I was creating a virus to infect someone, I would not stick it behind some screensaver or game download.

I would use something exactly like this software, which monitors activity, or launches programs, or something to that effect so I could fool people into thinking that is what the program is supposed to do.

Of all the launchers I have seen and tried, I still prefer FastUse:
http://alainlecomte.free.fr/Download.htm#FastUse
(scroll this page to see the other freeware available too)

(It has 20 "pages" to sort your 600 most used)
FastUse Version 6 will give you fast access to the 600 programs most often used, just by moving the pointer of your mouse over a small icon located in the system-tray. ~you can set it to click instead~
FastUse will also provide a screen capture program, a scratch pad, a telephone directory, a post-it and a perpetual calendar.

Freeware
Windows 95/98/2000/XP/NT (It works on Vista, too.)
Multilingual (English, French, Italian)

Before I could check the configuration there was mouse trails blocking the page view, the system slowed to a crawl on XP SP3.
I uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller, The trails kept building up.
Restarting did not stop the trails from coming back.
to be certain that all is totally removed will take an image restore.

Alongside with my Kaspersky (which detected this as a trojan). I also put this thru jotti and virustotal online scanners. Virustotal is continually getting stuck for me, but jotti showed some scanners as picking the file up as infected:

I think Bubby's comment is very appropriate on this program explaining about why this program might be picked up as a trojan.

And I downloaded the version from download.com and Kaspersky also picked it up as a trojan. So chances are, this is a false positive.

But I am not going to take the risk - especially considering that I cannot even find an official website (tried googlging it) or contact info (besides email) for this software developer. Just their mouse gesture website.

Keyboard shortcuts are easier than mouse gestures. I use winkey for the past 5 years --no longer in development now, but a superb program. I thank for the suggestion of runit in the comments. But, runit can open only files, whereas winkey can open folders, files and websites.

I think you're overstating the number of Windows 3.x users. Windows 95 only has 0.01% of the market, and even with a billion PCs in use worldwide, that's only 100,000 PCs still using Win95. The market share for Win 3.x is even smaller than that.

"This looks interesting, but I no longer knowingly buy or accept products from dictatorships (not easy these days!), so I want to know where companies are based?"

Celt42's comment is interesting. I operate a policy of not knowingly buying anything from the Zionist Entity. I know this is difficult in the realm of software and hardware, but I really wonder why this company hides its whereabouts at a time when the UK is attempting to persuade the EU to stop products from the Occupied Territories from entering, as happens already in the UK.

It's not too long ago, either, that a phone system installed by a Zionist Entity company in US government departments, was found to have a secret programme running in it which enabled the downloading of all the numbers that had been called and had called in. This system went right to the top and cost the US a lot of money to put right.

I've always found mouse gestures unreliable. Also, after reading the descriptions carefully, it looks like you can control the current window and switch windows with gestures BUT opening a new app requires a gesture and then choosing the app from a menu. This doesn't sound much different than the start menu!

There's better freeware/open source ware available: I LOVE AutoHotkey (and I used to be happy with Launchy until I found AHK) if you're a keyboard user. RocketDock is great for the mouse-centric.

I have used every gesture rec program on the market. I use a pen tablet so this type of program is a no brainer. The best I have used is sensiva period, however they are no longer around and the software does not work on vista. The program in theory is good but the trailing cusor has to go and there is a need for the ability to activate with the right click of the mouse so I uninstalled the program. Also it did not register for me ran in trial version. The next closes I have found to sensiva is gmote but it has bugs so there is no real solution for systemic gesture reconition software availible firefox is good but only works with firefox not systemic.
