For all the people like me who couldn't get the program to run:

I added the program to my DEP (Data Execution Prevention) Exception List (System Properties>Advanced tab>Performance Options>Data Execution Prevention tab) and it ran.

Like (29) - it installs, uninstalls, but just doesn't run. Tried installing it on C:\Program Files after it didn't run when installed like all my many other apps on D:\...

Melomania.exe shows for a seconf in task manager, then nothing.

Vista 32 bit English.

Hi, Able Apple#66, I do appreciate Your interest (as I do when any Developer follows closely our Comments on the day of Offer and tries to address our concerns) - To answer Your question directly: I didn't "order" Melomania to search my Desktop specifically, after naming the Artist (it's mp3 piece of music was still on my desktop) I pressed "Search" hoping it was intuitive enough to find it and it didn't, or to be even more specific I did not see ANY signs of searching:(
My PC meets all requirements, nothing vital blocked etc.

It's pretty irrelevant now, because I uninstalled it, sorry, perhaps next time when Your Software "gets better":) - it might attract me.
It was only fair to let You know.

merithini, it isn't a recording software. It allows you to catalog your music collection. You can add vinyl or tape albums into Melomania by hand.

Diamond Jim, when you say 'sound card' do you mean the one already installed on a PC or is a portable one? like a memory stick, I have an output for ipod on the stereo...It's too bad no one invented software to record directly from that output onto an ipod or MP3

Outdated interface, locks up while scanning, gives access violation message when closing (on Win 7 x64). Not very intuative, need to read the manual to work out how to use it. When it works it is great, but needs a lot more work.

When I first looked at the offering of the day, I thought I saw -- "Melanoma". Even after correctly reading the name, I still had no clue what the software might do. After reading the description, I'm still hung up on the name! How/Why did they choose that? Finally settled on that they were trying to combine MELODY and MANIA. I'm sorry, the name is a huge FAIL in my book. Just sayin...

I also had the problems with the program hanging while searching. After that I quit, due to the fact that that action is the first step to organizing your collections, OR EXACTLY what this software is supposed to do. So, if it can't do the first step, I'm not going to waste my time with it. Competition is tough and if you can't come to the game with a working software, you're surely not going to be a winner. Not surprizingly, I've uninstalled this offer. Thanks anyway, GoTD. Abel Apple, please continue to develop your software, and thanks for the offer, but MELOMANIA isn't ready for prime time, sorry.

Would be a lot more value, except that in Win 7 x32, freezes when scanning if the program window is minimised/ maximised. Something needs mending here, a $49.99 program shouldn't be buggy and freeze at any hint of using the PC!

Merithini - I use a regular turntable. I run the output from the turntable thru a preamp and that output goes into the PC thru the soundcard. I use Audition to record the input. Lots of good free stuff out there to use in place of Audition. I edit the music (remove scratches, boost the highs, etc, etc) and save as MP3. Use the output from a cassette player into the soundcard and you can record it. This is time consuming but it is fun to play with. Good luck.

Oh, I never could get Melomania to run. Gave an error everytime. Removed, reloaded and it repeated. Uninstalled it.

#27 "Geez .. ever hear of Winamp? ITunes? WMP? Why would anyone even think they need something like this, let alone try it?"

If you don't know why, it might not be a good idea to assume that no one else might have a reason. Sometimes people using this site assume that certain software is interchangeable when it's not. This is for music catalogs and is more comparable to Music Collector or Musicnizer. iTunes, Winamp, and WMP lack the ability to track the location of an entire music collection unless it's all on a hard drive.

#49, did you mean to call iTunes overpriced? It's free so maybe you meant something else.

#50, I believe you have to manually add your cassette tapes and vinyl albums. I don't see an option for barcode scanning or importing so it looks like manual is it.

It will take a lot more testing to figure out how viable this is for my specific music catalog needs but I haven't has any real problems in installing or using it.

I agree with those who say the software isn't intuitive. There are some things that are easy to figure out but the features specific to cataloging are not intuitive. I added a two disc cd for instance, and it seems to be seeing it as two separate discs instead of a music collection and I don't see an option to mark boxed collections
either.

It would probably be better if the "Collection" menu tab was labeled "Database" or something else since an artist can have a boxed collection.

The price may be a bit high considering that it only has three options for adding music whereas in other software you can add by album title search and barcode. Also right-clicking on Track Properties has some options available such as downloading lyrics, but you cannot edit Storage Media from there.

Hopefully, the publisher will be helpful in answering some of my questions.

I too found it hung forever when it hit an MP4 file. I have hundreds of them... so instead of throwing up my hands, I restarted the app, looked in TOOLS ->OPTIONS and there was a FILE TYPES TO SCAN list, I unchecked MP4, and then it ran perfectly.

Better it should be able to scan all the file types it thinks it can, and better still, it should detect a scan item is taking too long, and de-select that file or even that file type, and continue.

Installed and registered fine. However there were several problems with the scanning while creating a new collection. Hung up on several albums with the program stalling each time.Had to omit the culprit album only to discover it hanging up on yet another. Frustrating. Cover art was included with only a small percentage yet most albums had been previously edited with tagscanner so the jpgs were there just Melomania didn't find them. When trying to get album art from Amazon...http/1.1 400 bad request error encountered EVERY time. The program is fast to scan (if it didn't stop responding. Easy to use if one is used to media players and tag editors however still too many bugs in the program to make it useful. Uninstalled.

Hi, before I download this program I have a question. I’d like to know about how it copies from vinyl? Do I need a ‘modern day computerized turn-table? Or, does it record through a mic on which I play my albums on? Or do I just do ‘a search’ for each album I have and it finds it online and then it records it?
Also, I have many cassette tapes, yes, is there any software out there that can record from a cassette tape/ or for a cassette tape. Many of mine are mixed tapes that I recorded for myself. One of them just got eaten and I’m very sad because that means, looking up each song and downloading it and then organizing it…it would be nice just to record ‘as is’ from the tape.

Lot of whingers here. Why is it that when something goes wrong people immediately blame the new program they just installed? When you install new software there are so many variables involved that the problem could be caused by any number of things (your operating system, hardware or other software not playing properly with the new program, and so on. More often than not the problem is the user). Not everyone is comfortable with computers, but gee, at least try to find the reason for the problem before spouting off about the program or the developer.

Given all the negative comments here I figured the software couldn't possibly be *that* bad, so I just had to try it out.

My experience is that the program was easy to install, easy to register (don't people read instructions?), looks good, and it is very intuitive to use - despite what a couple of people have said. In my limited test (3.2 Gb of music in 598 files from 39 different albums spread over 40 folders) I pointed it to the parent folder and it quickly catalogued all of the files and displayed them in a very easy to use format. I did all that without needing to read the Help file. As Greg (#4) said the program even put album names to tracks I'd downloaded without bothering to associate them with an album. And double-clicking on a track in the catalogue opened my default media player and played the track.

As for this comment: "Geez .. ever hear of Winamp? ITunes? WMP? Why would anyone even think they need something like this, let alone try it?" ... why would you even bother to make a comment like that? Why would anyone want to use Winamp, let alone Windows Media Player (which I presume you meant by WMP)? And not everyone uses (or even wants) the overpriced iTunes. We don't all have the same preferences or needs, Swim. For example, I buy and download music tracks is to burn them to CD. I don't enjoy playing music on my PC and I don't have or want an MP3 or iPod or any other player. I don't really have a use for Melomania either, but for some computer users it's probably just what they need.

Hi,

Registration is much less obvious than usual, but once you have played around for a while looking for a way to do it, and you finally find out, the steps aren't that complicated.
1)In the "Help" scroll down menu (last one on the right), select the last item of the list: "About".
2)In the window that opens, click on the "Register..." button in the bottom left corner.
3) Enter the User Name, and Registration Key provided.
4) Voilà!

I'm using Win XP SP3, installed and registered almost flawlessly. Almost, because installer threw some errors. I suppose it's something with GOTD Activator -> probably it's trying to run program's installer immediately after Activator and gives no time for firewall and antivirus to react and we have a crash.

About Melomania:
It's quite intuitive in practice. It has, I believe, almost everything which makes creating music databases easy.

What about adding "Get info and tracks listing from Discogs/All Music Guide" Button in "Add New Album" Window? I think it would be a huge help if user knows exactly which artist and album title wants to add to the music collection.

After ~20 min of using this program I found that it has some bad memory leaks. When Melomania started it was using ~27MB of RAM which is very good. Then I tried to find some album by "Internet Finder". I clicked "Discogs" option, typed "Dire Straits" and clicked "Search". Ok, searching was fast, now using ~40MB of RAM, still very good. From the list I clicked first result. Melomania was searching, searching, and that was weird. I looked what's going on in Process Explorer and, aha, Melomania was using almost 2GB of RAM, which is for sure not OK!

When choosing "All Music Guide" all searching was OK.

To sum up: definitely thumbs up!

@teacup
Exist FormatFactory to convert the other formats to any others this software accept. And is Freeware.

Go for it: http://www.pcfreetime.com/index.html

To errors on install.
When error appear on install try to run the install with "Run as administrator" option under exe with the right buttom of the mouse. Then accept and it will change the troubles. If not check if you have administrator rights for install apps.
If your system, then check with the antimalware & antirootkit.

Well, here we are again. An expensive piece of software is free for today. Thank you, but in case of crash, I'll either have to buy the program or loose the way, i organized my music collection. Have noone heard about Jaangles, that does everything this app does - and then some. Read for yourselves, grab it and I promise you, noone will be disapointed. First link is where to download this freeware program, and the next is a review : MediaMonkey vs Jaangles. Personally I've never been that happy with a music organizer, than when I got to learn about Jaangles. Anyway, thanks a lot to the team behind GOTD and Able Apples, but just this offer I can get better and more reliable for free. Cheers from Denmark

Hi again, I can see now I have misinterpreted the Purpose of "Melomania" (earlier comm#30) mistaking it for Music Downloader..(instant cover download?) AS WELL as MANAGER.
If the latter description was stressed better in the first place - I would not make that "blond" mistake? Happens:)

That - or seeing (at least!) INSTANT results of Software searching anything on my PC, or trying to..(!) - I would have been less hasty..
The Artist who's music I downloaded shortly before testing Melomania was "sitting" on my Desktop fully described. It didn't find it.

Not a keeper for me:(, sorry.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I could not find any reference to DRM, so I'm curious as to whether it has any provision for that. Thanks.

Does anybody know what "lent media tracking" in Key Features list means? Does it mean, for instance, that it keeps a list of music that has been loaned out (or perhaps just the opposite?) or is there some disconnect in the translation and it means something entirely different?

MESSAGE TO ALL COMPANIES THAT OFFER SOFTWARE HERE!

Please refrain from having shills post glowing comments about your product. (So obvious in this list of comments).

If your product is good it will stand on it's own merits. We are not stupid. The shills are so obvious. Why bother. To fool the few that may fall for that phoney praise. If your product is no good then don't offer it.

In any case, I won't even try a product if I see a shill posting in the comments.

Just my opinion but I am sure there are others who feel the way I do.
Thank you for listening.

I installed the software without issue.
I attempted to create the Collection on my "Mapped as M:\" NAS Server, and the software was not able to create the collection file and did not return any error.
I restarted the software and created a collection on my local C:\Temp\ directory, I copied the Collection to my NAS and attempted to delete the local copy using the "Remove Collection" function. The software said it deleted the collection but then popped up an access violation error and crashed. I relaunched the program and tried to add the collection on my NAS server and the software could not open the file and crashed again with an error of:
Exception EAccessViolation in module Melomania.exe at 00CFB68 Access violation at address 004CFB68 in module ‘Melomania.exe’. Read of address 000000CD.
I have un-installed the software and will continue to search for a reliable music manager. Thank you GAOTD, Nice Try AbleApples.

I had to turn off Avira AntiVirus realtime protection to install on WindowsXP w/SP3. Setup froze otherwise.

Attempted to build a new album and scan the My Documents folder. The application froze yet again during the scan.

Uninstalling left "Able Apples" folders in the Program Files folder and in the Application Data folder of my user profile.

Far too troublesome of an application to be worth using much less at the price posted.

... The end of the story: The programme scans, finds about 25 songs -- then hangs, with the hour-glass permanently hovering. I don't have time for debugging, and for $50, you wouldn't expect to.

Uninstalled!

After reading the comments as far as #26 (the last one as of now) I was not so disposed to download this give away -- but I thought it might be useful to find OTHER examples of songs/music by the same artist/composer.

But others are right -- it is FAR from intuitive. So let me save some of you some trouble, maybe -- to SCAN your hard disk(s) for music, click on the FIFTH button from the right -- the one like a Hot Cross Bun. Then, "Example collection", then "Scan local drives for audio files".

That will search your hard disk (though you may have to click on "Ignore" for some files it has problems with) and bring up what it can find -- although who knows if it will find everything?

It certainly had a problem with at least some of my CHINESE music....

Then, when I went back to see what it had found -- all I got was a white screen, and "Programme not responding". I don't know if it was my computer, but it wasn't a good start.... Maybe because I tabbed across to add this comment -- but it SHOULDN'T do that, I am sure. Not too impressive....

Downloaded, installed & registered no problems. Only problem - (quite a major one!) is it keeps on freezing while scanning for music. Looks like quite good software, but is bug ridden.

Hi, Perhaps it's wrong of me to compare these particular two Softwares - Today's "Melomania" (as I'm sure it's capable of many "tricks":) and recent Offer of "Speed MP3 Downloader", but for me and my needs (I stress that strongly!) - the power of Search Engine, it's ease, speed and intuition(!!) mean a great deal.

As it happens I've been using Speed MP3 today.., and to test "Melomania" I have placed Name (only) of the same Artist - RESULT: Nothing happened!? The first one: Lots and Lots, as usual..

I might learn yet how Others find their way through "Melomania", but I like fast, simple, efficient, and so far I know if I lost "Speed" I would buy it "like a shot":).. Here - not sure at all, sorry.

I cannot get it to run. Tried installing to two different hard drives and though it seems to install OK it simply will not run. I click the shortcut on the desktop or the actual .exe file in the program folder but always the same result - Windows shows its working symbol for a few seconds then nothing. I'd like to have tried this too as I have a huge .mp3 collection.
(Windows7 Ult-64bit,Intel Core i7,8GB RAM,2 x internal hard drives, OS is on SSD.)
BTW, the program's own uninstaller works perfectly; RevoPro uninstaller found no traces left behind.

Installed program without a problem but every time I try to scan my music folder for files it freezes. Uninstalled program after about 40 mins.

Geez .. ever hear of Winamp? ITunes? WMP? Why would anyone even think they need something like this, let alone try it? And, no, "free for the day" is not a reason.
