Win7 x64
v3.3.9

installs into directory of your choice, 108 MB.
23 MB of which is codec related, 17 MB, "resources",
possibly theme related items for the program?

program is "pre-registered", but you have to
actually go through the process in order for it to
be. (iow, read the readme file.) appears that the
install is tied to your hardware?

drag&drop did not work for me (running sandboxed).

unless you realize it, conversion starts immediately,
so once you've added a file, away she goes. odd that
it would do that, i would think. & in particular if
you had not set up anything at all at up to that
point.

my source file, AVI, 640x352, 1160 Kbps
output to, MP4, 640x360, 960 Kbps
... though according to the program it should have
output to "ipad", h.264, 1024x768 at "85%" quality.
it did NOT (at least the 1024x768 was not).

file size went from 183 MB to 152 MB

conversion was (relatively) speedy, & output was
acceptable, not quite as good as source, but OK.

even though out frame size was "bigger" 360 vs 352,
the actual playback size was slightly smaller?
(perhaps related to video scaling?)

there are no effects, no preview, no side-by-side,
that some of the other giveaways have provided

you cannot edit any of the preset format, only
newly created copies. a LOT of settings, & it does
give you a blurb as to what they are, but you (i)
have no idea what any of it means, in any case.
it will not be easy to make "on the go" changes in
this method. seems it is more to set up specific
"formats", profiles, that you will use consistently.

progress meter is inaccurate, hitting 100% well
before the conversion finishes.

conversion used virtually 100% CPU, though it did
not seem to impact system usage

doesn't seem to be any way to disable audio?

changing "video scaling" to "resize freely" &
leaving picture size set to 1024x768 STILL output
a 640x360 size?

additionally, it OVERWROTE my first attempt, no
questions asked, no prompting, no nothing. so if
YOU don't take care to rename or move ahead of
time, say bye bye.

output to "windows video 640x480" is going to take
quite a bit longer then to h.264

output size ended up, again, at 640x360 & not the
640x480 that the setting said? windows video did
not advance cleanly when jumping through the
playback using the timeline, often ending prematurely

no method to see what a preset format settings
are (unless you make a copy of them). all you
know is "windows video 640x480 85%".

"flash original" (whatever /that/ means) 85% ...
output to 640x360.

so i made a custom flash. video scaling, resize
freely, picture size, 1024x768, expected input
picture size, left blank. (drum roll) & when done
(again it handily overwrite my existing file) ...
output to 640x360. i guess you just can't win!

no help, not that it really is needed, unless you
wanted to dive into the the output format settings,
so that really isn't an issue. the window is
resizeable, but in this instance, there is no need.

given that this is simply a straight forward
conversion utility, one with no frills, no effects,
no preview, quite unlike virtually every other
giveaway of this type, & more like lots of other
free converters out there, i have to ask, why this?

Now days, people are getting rid of the giant heavy, low resolution, power guzzling, heat producing tube viewing in favor of beautiful 1080p High Definition viewing monitors and require likewise, high definition 1080p capable converters to convert, copy and store 1080p video on the storage devices of all of our high definition viewing devices so we can also quickly alphabetically access any of the beautiful, high definition video we are becoming so accustomed to, that we can't stand the stark drop in quality that occurs when playing a video on our high def devices that has the ugly old low quality low definition because it was converted or copied with a device or software that is only capable of functioning on a low definition level. Of course we would like any older lower definition videos we already have to be able to be converted to appear almost as good as high def when played on our newer high def equipment, and even if we play them on some of the older lower definition equipment we still have. That can be accomplished with good software, so comment #5 by BigBen from Poland is very helpful. Anyone who can, please always make sure that those high definition aspects have been tested and commented on in our video converter related software reviews if you can, because those are aspects we all need right now, as soon as possible except for the tiny few that may be determined to stick with only poor quality low definition video, and determined to only keep using the big heavy, hot running, power guzzling, expensive electric bill producing, low memory storage capability equipment that's over 5 or 6 years old. We also don't have the room or time to sort through a lot of trashy looking stacks of hard copy video and audio which can be greatly assisted by quality software, so we need to clarify which software has the best abilities to do that so everyone, including software companies and software programmers can shift their attention to serving those requirements.

Responding to wonderful Giovanni's comment #10: about how it's nice to be able to get the portable versions of software programs, which actually ties into a better way for the smaller software companies to earn much more for producing quality freeware versions which still need to get critiqued and reviewed on forums like gaotd, which run ads using an interesting format I recently experienced:

(Yes! Portable programs can be much better for testing lots of new software programs! For instance, if you prefer to use an older laptop computer to test out new software before loading it onto your "good" computer. If you load portable programs onto a usb flash drive and unzip/install them on the flash drive only, you can avoid using up memory space on your computer, and be able to use the program on more than one computer, like your older back up laptop too just because you don't have time to install the program on both computers, or it could be easier to set up a security program to 1st install the program into a sandbox and test it from the sandbox, to make sure there's no kind of malware included in a freeware program if you 1st download and install it on a usb flash drive.
I can understand why many smaller software companies think they need to include the unscrupulous civilization destroying act of including some kind of company's keystroking malware hidden within their software programs in order to receive some kind of payment to cover the creation of a freeware program, but I am promoting a quality way to earn big money via a forum tested, forum tweaked quality freeware version of your software programs that are clean, with no keystroke/spying malware hidden in it (which should be illegal), instead using a non-personally identifying, non-obstructive, non-system slowing software form of a wonderful video ad playing format I recently discovered and explain using the following description of my experience:
When I recently went on the World Weather Radar site I regularly check for LIVE Radar and Doppler Radar to Make Sure No Rain is going to fall in the area and during the time I want to skate outdoors on my Rollerblades, as rain will rust and ruin the bearings in the wheels:
They had a new square box in the upper right hand corner with complete video controls to pause or play, adjust volume and so on, that did not obstruct the Dopler radar screen whatsoever, that played a short video ad, then played a non-commercial, short YouTube.com video I had recently played several times of cute baby animals. Then alternately another short ad video played, and then again the cute baby animal video. It was a very pleasant experience. I thought they must have been using some kind of software that did not slow down my 7 yr old laptop what-so-ever, that was able to find the most recent short video clip I had played several times (indicating I probably really liked the video). I appreciated seeing a repeat of that short non-commercial video a couple times so much, that I did not find the alternate ad annoying at all, and did not want to click the upper right corner "x" of the video ad box. However, the next time I went back on the radar weather site, that ad format was gone, replaced with a non-video ad banner across the top of the screen, that had no "x" or way to delete it, about something I'm not remotely interested in, that keeps moving the viewing screen I position in order to see the entire radar area I need to see clearly in order to tell whether I have a safe window of time to skate outdoors without rusting my Rollerblade's wheels. Every time I move about a half page down, so I can see the whole radar screen, the stupid ad only lets me stay there for about 2 seconds and moves the screen down again to have their ad take up most of the viewing area that the radar screen normally uses, with a continual, java-type flashy effect, "click here now" (to leave this page and see the ad's promotion website before getting to see the weather radar I went there for), and uses so much of the cpu, that the radar in motion, and even the weather map area/size settings will not set up, but just stays frozen until after I have continually down paged to the radar screen which moves the ad completely out of the viewing area, about 10 times! Ads should be designed to not slow system speeds and not block the website function you came there for, and have an "x" to close them in case they are overloading your computer. Things like that on the internet, that waste so much time of the people, that the people can barely get anything done, are a big problem to the world economy, because the people who are being slowed down are the people who are actually providing and paying for everything that enables the civilization of Human Beings to function, such as road building, and everything else being done, and even for all human beings and their pets to be able to survive as the poorer 99% are the ones providing the supply chain for EVERYTHING, INCLUDING FOOD, as well as paying for most of the construction costs of the largest corporations who are all only rich criminals, which is all paid for by taxes almost 99% paid by the poorer 99% of the world. Things are getting exponentially worse, very fast since the criminal rich are getting jiggy with taking over governments, changing laws to benefit only their corporations, and hurting the masses and the world's eco-system at large, because of fixing elections, more and more, using simple electronic voting machine programs that take away votes from other candidates and add them to the candidate programmed to win, added to all the less technical ways of helping fix elections that they have been used since elections began.)

Unlike making a digital exact copy, whenever you convert to a different format you will lose some quality, and if you convert it back to what it was before, you lose some more of it. It's a fact of life. A good converter merely minimizes the effect of this loss in an acceptable fashion. Conversions are never perfect copies of the original, no matter whether it's audio, digital or document or whatever, but some are better than others due to better algorithms or such things as smoothing typefaces. So it's better not to make a conversion from another conversion, but rather to go back to the original each time. Sorry if I burst anyone's bubble, but the truth must be told. Not only that, but it must be dealt with; thus the search for better converters (sometimes mis-stated as the search for the perfect converter, but as you can see from the above, there is no such thing).

Looks okay to me, at first glance (don't have the time right now to do a detailed test). Installed and activated without problems, following instructions in the Readme file. I like the nice, clean GUI -- and blue is my favorite color too!

Two requests/suggestions for enhancement:
Firstly, the "Select the output folder" dialog box should have a "New folder" button (conventionally placed in the bottom left corner of the dialog). And secondly, like some other media converters, Media Buddy should have an option to select which cores [of you multi-core processor] are to be used, or at least the number of cores. This is equally as important as using CUDA or ATI stream support to offload work from the processor.
