It's the first time I use a program like this one, but its interface was so easy to understand that I managed to use it right away. And it definitely does what it says. I tested it converting a bunch of files from one format to another with two application involved in the process. Iterations went just fine. It’s a keeper. Many "thank you" to the people making this possible.

Want a cool application for this program? Use it along with hoversnap to press your stumbleupon button and do a screensave while you are away from the computer. You can cycle this process as many times as you like. Later, just do a slideshow of the pics to see what sites you have stumbled upon... Its cool cuz u dont have to wait for the sites to load and u dont waste time in front of the computer doing all that stumbling. Can You Feel the Love Here?

#63 - I saw all of those but none met my needs and i couldn't make sense of any of thescripts after loading them.

Of course macros in my day were much easier, since everything was keyboard generated (we rarely used a mouse). So the steps were: record what i am doing. stop recording. name the macro. run the macro. you could later tweak it if you wanted to, but didn't have to.

#47 & #59 You start from the wrong assumption. McAfee is the virus. AutoHotkey is open source and peer reviewed. Dozens of trained programmers work on it and you are welcome to download the source and look through it, many have. There are many things that come across as threats to anti viruses that are not and via versa. I would trust an open source project long before a closed one, and I can also say that the number of machines I have seen hosed up because of McAfee is huge, while never having even heard of one bad AutoHotkey one.

As mentioned before: AUTOHOTKEY can do (almost) everything! It CAN
- test wether your program is running,
- change the focus (to this application/window),
- if NOT active run it,
- watch thew time and do only if...,
- automate, change, activate,... everything
- ...
That´s why it is not too easy to handle: there are endles abilities and options; but that makes autohotkey a REALLY universal tool!

You can start with thousands of examples throug existing (and free) scripts for almost every kind of tasks... Or, if you are willing to experiment yourself, will find a lot of pages with help and predifined soltutions.

LOL #52! Thanks so much for this program!! I love it! I have used several macro programs for years, 2 that I paid for, & this 1 is lots easier to use! I use them mostly for text,(during chat online & in MS Messenger, it's a godsend!) & I can't live without a decent 1! This 1 works great & way easy! I never used 1 for automating key-clicks etc before, as the other programs are too hard to do that with, but this 1 looks like it will be really truly easy! THANK YOU!!! :)

#45 anu - surely after months of reading the comments, you would have also seen the explanations that others have given to answer similar queries? You know, the reasons behind why GOTD exists, yada yada....Here is a possible scenario. After putting a product out on this site, and reading the, hopefully honest and accurate comments, the developer says gee whiz, maybe we aren't being all that realistic about the price. Those nice people at GOTD seemed to really like (or not) our product, but think its a bit overpriced for the market. And, in light of the fact that they somehow seem to know about all the freeware alternatives out there, including a few we didn't, lets lower the price. See, a consumer saying what they think of an asking price isn't necessarily complaining. When done properly its called an honest evaluation. I rarely post and tonight I know is an exception, but every once in a while, you just can't STAND it any longer!!! I have never used one of these. And to be honest, I doubt I would have tried one of the freeware ones. A lot of time open source programs can be intimidating to a less than experienced user. But after, ahem, properly installing :-) the program, I've been able to create several macros fairly painlessly, and yeah, I could see a use for this. And if I can use it, anyone can! Okay, I'll stop biting people now, and go hit my little wheel again.....

#51 Joe, try contacting the developers - there still may be time, and often they are more than willing to look for a solution, sometimes even after the giveaway has expired. At least you can find out whether its the program or something from your system that is in conflict with it.

First of all, this is a great auto software. Nice interface and very intuitive. Following the registering instructions works.

If you have a mom or dad that are just starting to learn how to use the computer or go online, this is a great program to have. You just go through the motion once, such as logging online and opening firefox to whatever site they like, and the next time they want on, they'll just have to only click on the executable file that you've made with the program and hopefully put on the dekstop.

It produces very friendly product for the computer illiterates in the family and gives them a great start into the computing world if they haven't tried that out yet.

I have all the other ones too and this one is great, almost better than autotask.

I prefer that the program doesn't start automatically. Any macros I make with it will be saved as executables. And I can use Windows' own Shortcut key functionality to start them.

The warnings some people have gotten probably are because the program installs a dll file in the Windows System32 folder to handle the keyboard process. I don't think this should cause a "root-kit" warning, though.

This recorder seems to be easier to work with than any I've tried before, but I haven't tried the above-mentioned AutoHotKey yet.

I wish it came with some sample macros to show-off its features.

Very good program in my opinion.

Hey everybody! I haven't tried the software or even downloaded it, I'm just letting everyone know that I've decided to pass. That's right, as an important individual, I am sure everyone has been waiting for news from me. So, I want everyone to know...I am passing. Why? Because my brain can't think of a way to use this software.

If it could be used to create complex diagrams of my housecat, I would consider it. However, it is just a macro recorder, and people that don't need macro recorders are far more important that anyone here who might actually use the software.

Besides that, although it is FREE, there are other free alternatives. Why should I take something that costs money normally but is free today, when I can use other software that is just free every day? I mean, that is brilliant thinking, right? Of course. I said it.

Also, for those who are wondering what else I have to say, I had a sandwich for lunch with two pickles today.

After reading all the other brilliant comments, I thought I would add some more brilliance.

That is all.

After I copy and paste the user name and registration and press Register the program proceeds to crash. Would you like to send a report to Microsoft?
I have tried both downloads. I have un-installed and repaired to no effect.
Evaluate works just fine. I am just not able to keep the program running long enough to register. I also searched for a way to register within the program but alas I was unable to find one.

Hey #5!
and everyone else, BE WARNED! I know mcafee can be off "once in a while" although not very often is mcafee site advisor mistaken. 9 out of 10 ten times, mcafee site advisor is right on the money. When you goto that autohotkey site, it tells you that this is a "serious vulnerability" that may cause an infection! are you willing to risk a warning like that? sometimes i go against mcafee site advisor, but not when it says it is a serious security risk. Usualy, if it is nothing unusual mcafee site advisor WILL NOT REDIRECT YOU TO SPECIFIC SITE ADVISOR SITE WITH SUCH A STRONG WARNING- dont risk your computer on a serious warning where mcafee takes you to its own site. I know your intentions are well, #5, but I thought i would let you and everyone else know, that whatever price this is for, is much cheaper than having your pc's security breached like mcafee is warning on that auto hotkey program. also, infections on some pcs can be costly and fatal to your hard drive if you understand my lingo.

For many months of reading the comments, I still do not understand why people complain about the price even though the software is offered for free. If the developer thinks it's worth a million bucks for a piece of garbage, who cares?

If complaining about the price makes you happy, why not go to every merchant (grocery, department, car, online, etc.) who are actually charging for their products and complain about their pricing. You can also complain about the price of gas, utilities, attorney's, doctor's and mechanic's fees. That will keep you busy. Or you can try to make your own software and see how much it is worth and offer it for free here. That simple.

I'm asking GAOTD for a little improvement of the service:
"did you find this comment useful?"
At the moment GAOTD provides the final result (Yes= +1, Not= -1)
I think it will be more "useful" to provide also the total of the entries, or directly the two totals of the "Yes" and the "Not" entries.
Thanks a lot!

So far the questions I've seen in the comments -
Autohotkey has a macro recorder - not just a key/mouse logger.
It can compile it's scripts to exe that will function on 98 (there might be a few commads you can't use, but it's always worked for me), through to Vista (it also worked for me in Vista x64 with WindowsOnWindows.)
It's free and there is a large community that's active and developement is active.
It can create Gui front ends.
You can use it to launch a program, give it focus, click on a control in case the window moves.
- But what is it good for?
I created software testing automation, remapped the Lock Computer keyboard command to generate a pop up if I still had one of my USB thumbdrives attached to the system, have IE7 launch any URL I was mousing over in a new background tab if I pressed "n" ((ignoring it if I was in a webform), autocorrect script that replaced all the knitting abreviations I type with the full word. I created a front end for several command line utilities so that it was easy for my coworkers to use. And I have more cooking in my brain. Head over to the Script Showcase to really see what people are doing with it.

What I'd like to see is the ability to easily create macros for web pages - AK can parse the source file of the page, or call a javascript command and get parameters from that - but for me that might be worth taking a look at something else.

#31, keep looking at Robotask. It will do it. I don't remember how and I am work now. I will look for it when I get home later and post again if I can find it.
For those that don't know what to do with this, macro recorders are great if you have some task that you do over and over. Have the macro record you doing it once and then the macro can do the rest for you.
I use macros to kick off tasks to clean up my PC like deleting cookies, temp files and cleaning the registry. I have also used one that pulls information from an email folder in outlook and puts the data in Excel. I have another that reformats some Excel files I get on a regular bases. I can spend 30 minutes or more reformatting the files myself or I can run a macro that takes about 15 seconds to run. These are great time savers.

#26 thanks for the tip on Universal Extractor. I've used 7zip until now, but this one supports by far more files. Only drawback is that it cannot be used as an explorer, which can be done by 7zip. But it's worth it.

As for Macro recorder, it seems fairly comprehensive and easy to understand. It is a bit strange though that it doesn't have the option to start up with Windows for those who want it, can't be a difficult thing to do.

You can, however make a shortcut in your startup map under Startmenu/Program files/ for the "Hotkey Macro Launcher utility" yourself, so that you have your macro's at hand when you want them. You'll have to have assigned macro's first, otherwise the program will constantly ask if you want to assign macro's everytime you start up. Also the window will not start minimized. I think these are the most urgent matters for a next release of the program.

I don't think $39.85 is a just price since there ar so many freeware options out there. Other than the ones already mentioned here's a list of a couple of them (don't forget to check out the tags at the bottom of the page):
http://www.newfreedownloads.com/find/macro-maker.html
Btw, the whole site is very interesting if your looking for free stuff.

It looks like this can only do about 20 different inserts (actions).

I prefer using VistaTask (it used to be called Vistarunner). It has over 200 actions it can perform and can compile your program into an executable.

How about getting VistaTask as a give away here?

Look up a site report: Go McAfee Home

Why were you redirected to this page? When we tested, this site attempted to make unauthorized changes to our test PC by exploiting a browser security vulnerability. This is a serious security threat which could lead to an infection of your PC.

I think I will pass on hotkey.com even though the Macafee warning may be bogus and isolated to their experience.

Having the mouse click at location X,Y might not always work since the window you want to click on might be in a different part of the screen than previous times (if it's not maximized).

It would be better if we could choose a window, activate it (make the bar at the top dark blue), and have it click on stuff there.

I couldn't figure out how to do this with Robotask. Can Macro Recorder or AutoHotKey do it?

I personally use AutoHotkey since a long time;*

BUT "Macro Recorder" is great, too!

I tested it and it is really easy to use - even for a beginner; and if one is patient enough, he will learn how to use it more efficently... I will suggest Macro Recorder to some of my clients and friends

* Autohotkey is not as easy to use in creating some tasks, but it is VERY capeable!!!

Thank you GAOTD for this great gift
(while I would not pay such an incredible price for such a tool...)

B.t.w: why alway whining about programs or the pricing? - You get it for free here, and often with a VISIBLE key, too so that you can use the software even if your machine crashes and those programs get lost...

Greetings from
(german)werwölfchen
