The List Management software for Text Lists allows you to easily perform common daily business tasks in seconds. You can cut and paste lists or open existing files to start. Once you've done that, you can sort them, change the case, find 'differences' between two lists, find 'matches' between two lists, remove blanks, remove lines containing certain content, and remove duplicates. I concur with TK (#55) because indeed the time limited offer is totally fake. It looks indeed if HotHot has something in place as described in TK's post #53.

Check out the homepage
http://www.hothotsoftware.com/index.php

and don't be surprised if as good as all the products have a time limited offer that is just about to expire.

Pitiful, disgraceful and stupid. Just like his software.

HotHotSoftware is my favourite GAOTD-participating developer, simply because he (because there's no way it's anything but one guy with VB) never fails to amaze me with how much he expects people to pay for his silly little 10 minute programs. From what I've seen, most of them look like tutorials off any beginner tutorial site.

"........ . Is there one little monkey with a laptop in a cage somewhere shoveling out this crap? "

I too need the thing said by Comment #11 :
"As useful as a chocolate frying pan."

I feel:
Its better to install hundreds of Demos and Sharewares rather than installing One Freeware(for today) Scrap..

Even from the First comment, no one is still clear for what can this software be used.. !

I think this type of condition is for the first time in the history of GAOTD..

Really.. GAOTD is losing its sanctity..

To some of you - if you were face to face with the developer, would you actually have the courage to speak to him in the same fashion as your posts?

You might tell him/her that you don't like their software but I don't think it would be in such a disgusting, derogative way...

Not to offend anyone, just had to say something.

Geeze, I did install this software thinking it might come in handy for all of the stuff I have to do, but really, it is not very handy, I think a basic word file or google has a calendar you could use, it seems like it is over thinking a list... once you are done with a project, you can scratch through it or delete it, you dont really need all this... sorry thumbs down on this one...

I do thank GAOTD for all of the wonderful software I have received so far...
Thanks... but it is a uninstall for this one

I have been an active member at this site for over a year now. It has given me and many others a great variety of software and tools to take my small company to the next level.

As for todays giveaway, I must disagree with my own comment above. the software does not save time and is definitely on the simple side. It ran on vista ultimate and xp fine. I did find that the alphabetize feature is a little off, but is tolerable. I would think it would be easier just to jot these things down on a whiteboard or post-it notes by hand rather than try to figure this little program out.

Anyway, thanks GAOTD.

Wouln't mind betting the guy has things set up so if you go on tomorrow, surprise, surprise, all the special offers end tomorrow.

I smell a rat, is this what Babya went on to?

No, Babya is still going - all credit to the awesomely prolific writer, and from the look of it, Babyaware freeware is actaually more professional looking than hothot.

Way back, Babya irritated the regulars of the alt.comp.freeware newsgroup with a succession of poorly finished and grandiosely named programs in VB.

A lot of hothot's stuff looks like little more than tarted up examples!

PeterM(#3): When this site first started, it was a brilliant idea. Unknown developers would offer their stuff free for one day. People could keep it as long as they wanted but had to buy it if they wanted upgrades or if they lost it somehow. In return, the developers could get intelligent opinions, constructive criticism, and word-of-mouth advertising. What a difference two years make.
Look at this site now, pick any day, and even on those very rare occasions when the program offered is worth the effort to download, you'll see the same sad story. This section will contain maybe 2% informed, helpful comments. The other 98% of the column will be divided among the usual idiots. You'll find people post just to tell you that they'll "give it a whirl". And the people who trash the software without saying why or pointing to a decent alternative. And the ones who feel compelled to share their vast "knowledge" of computers, mentioning the giveaway only as a ploy to get past the moderators. And tho outright trolls who think they're funny.
People who have legitimate questions are told to take them to the forums. Here they find a 24-hour chat room filled with bored housewives sharing riddles, puzzles and personal anecdotes. Rarely will a question about the giveaway be answered before the giveaway period is over, if it gets answered at all.
Now imagine you're an honest, hard-working developer with an innovative product you want seen by prospective customers and distributors. Would you choose this site as a forum? Not if you have any self-respect. This site has become a sad parody of what it started out as.
So, to answer your question, no, this developer won't be banned. In fact, this is the calibre of developer and software you can expect here on most days. And it isn't the fault of GOTD. This site was dragged down by ignorant, self-important fools who never understood what its purpose was to begin with.

I won’t ever try such a piece of crap.
Come on… all hothot softwares that were proposed here are dumb & dumber softwares (a much better name for this editor).
Weak in functionality, strong in bugs or dysfunctionalities, and always over-priced… Hopefully there is always a special discount expiring “today” on the editor website…
This pricing policy, regarding such lame pieces of software, is an insult to intelligence.

However, I’m not a customer of them and never will.
Even for free, I don’t grab it…

TO GOTD ADMINS AND USERS
Just to let you know, if you can read French, go to the French section. You’ll find the dumbest forum over the internet.

The owners of gotd should do something (require an authentification before posting eg., or whatever…)
Currently, a few people are insulting each other daily (homosexual, stupid, asshole or this kind of insults…)
French GOTD is really looking like the internet sewer... Some people go as far as usurping their own name in order to accuse someone else and insult...

Very unfortunatly, today's giveaway really suck! Don't waste time download this and try it, it is a worthless junk program.

P.s. - Hope that GOTD management will pay more attention to filter out junk software and release more useful quality softwares in the future.

Best wishes,

My groups final project in a class called "Software Engineering" at the UC was a ToDo list in the Google Android environment called MOB2Do. While this software is useful - as a college student juggling a business, wife, kids and homework I use one - it is probably overpriced as a lot of the software of this nature (including my groups project) are open source. One thumb up and thanks GOTD!

The first hint about whether this was a good download comes with the publisher. Hot Hot Software. Enough said right there. While his programing skills have improved it is still nothing I would be willing to pay for. I don't even want it for free. That should tell you something. Look publisher, I want to like you and I'm sure you are a nice person but maybe you need to find something else to fill your spare time. I would also suggest to the GAOTD team to find us something better. But at least you are not just offering endless repeats like the game side. Who knows.... maybe someone will find this useful. For me I will pass.

Sure are a lot of jerks posting comments here. You know, the "high and mighty" ones. Wow. Why would anyone even reward such combative commenters with 'yes' votes? Perhaps because they are of the same character? It's one thing to comment about something you have tried (in a civil and logical fashion) but this little comment area has turned into a private club for egomaniacal jerks with major attitutde problems. Perhaps they can't get an audience elsewhere, and they come here to spew their aggressive garbage. I pretty much disregard most of the comments here, which are often self-indulgent posts by some truly insecure loudmouths. Unbelievable, really. These losers should go purchase a "talking Barney" and get the love they long for.

Stupid People... (#8)

Lots of them talk about votes and that there were no comments. Did you ever think that maybe they did comment but their comments just hadn't passed moderation yet?

Now for the program...

Downloading, Installing and Activating was OK. No errors.
And again it's from that HotHotSoftware (which really isn't that hot). I don't know if there's anyone who would need a program like this since you can do everything directly from notepad. They have a small tutorial that tells you about the buttons and what they do. It allows you to capitalize or sort lines. But it requires that the file first be typed up in notepad or something. Pay $30 for this? I wouldn't even pay $1 much less $30.

this is basic codes of visual basic codes used by the developer, why him make high price for this software, when we can learn vb codes for free and make it without paying for 30$ to someone.

why free ?, use vb.net express for free visual basic (not pirating)

I concur with the above...What exactly is the point of this software?

It installed and registered fine on Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

The program comes with a 'tutorial' that really does not help you figure out what you are supposed to do with this software.

The only one feature I liked about this software were:
1) The ability to 'remove lines' that contain 'xxx' in them. XXX being words you specify.

Other then that, I do not understand why anyone would use this software. I tried loading word and excel files into to, to see if it would recognize them and load lists. It did not. It has only worked for .txt files for me so far.

I would recommend free alternatives but, simply put, there are none for something as stupid as this. Unless you are writing your list in notepad or word pad, you will be able to do everything this software does using the program you are writing your list in.

Maybe I am an ignorant man who cannot see but real purpose of this software. Until someone shows me the light, I suggest to just skip this giveaway.

I really love gotd and appreciate the value of the service provided here, but this program confuses me.

Like, why?

A list maker thingie?

How wonderfully useless. I don't mean to be critical, but if people need to make a list, theres a about a million other options.

Notepad.
Pen and paper.
Refrigerator boards.
Sticky notes.
Word pad.
Office software, free and not free versions.
Chalk.
Crayons.
Short term and long term memory which we all have at birth.

The list goes on and on.

But a program SPECIFICALLY for making lists?

Wow.

What a waste of programming skills.

Thanks anyway, but I'm gonna pass.

But I do agree that todays offer borders on hilarious. Just do what the rest of us do. Vote thumbs down & get somewhere until tomorrow.
Free for a day doesn't make it good or even worth trying. Which by the way I haven't, won't & yes, I voted thumbs down.

#14 Jaden hit the nail on the head. The idea might be good, but
basic functionality is just not there.
#17 Corny pointed out one of several excellent alternatives.
My point of view....those of you that try new software programs
need to make sure you use a third party utility such as
Revo Uninstaller at http://www.revouninstaller.com (freeware).
This will help make sure that remnants left over after removing
programs you try and delete do not create problems for your
operating system.

Yes, this is the person who
- Read a guidebook on VB programming
- Invented totally unrealistic testimonials
- Wrote a failure-quality book review of a book
- Is charging us $20+ for some of the VERY basic functions of VB
- Calls himself a "software developer" and can't even convert megabytes to bytes correctly
- Boasts that his software are Vista compatible (yes of course they are - these are very basic VB?)

@3: I totally support your cause.
@6: Most of the "software features" are more effectively (and accurately) done in batch scripting as opposed to using this software.

As for the software, I am going to pass. First, the reviews are not favorable, and second, I am am a bit confused about what #1 pointed out. and i would really call for hothotsoftware to be banned from putting their products on giveawayoftheday. they are not just ridiculously programmed (anyone with a decent capability to program can do it), they also usually are too simplified and dont serve any real, pressing purpose.

Since I discovered freeware Ted Notepad (http://jsimlo.sk/notepad/), it has become my notepad of choice as it does everything List Management Software does, is fully portable (one 120k file).

Here is a short list of its features:
Duplicates, unique lines, work with columns or numbers (I create CSVs easily here)
Case (upper, lover, inverse, sentence, beginning words)
Convert to/from unix or mac
indent/unindent, quote, unquote
enclose repeated text, advanced search/replace
Sorting, reversing text or lines, unwrap paragraphs (this is not a word-wrap toggle--it has that too)
Merge/divide documents
Log feature with or without time/date stamps
DragnDrop

The advanced features I use most are
UTF-8/Unicode/ANSI conversions (Ctrl U) (All tools have menu items too)
List and Column management (Selectr some text and hit Ctrl-Alt-Y to see this baby's true power)
Unique Lines (Ctrl-Alt-X)

Sorry but this freeware boots List Management Software out of the water.

It may be useful one day, but I may never have a need for it either.

As useful as a chocolate frying pan. Fot the life of me I cannot think who might find this utility handy. Everything loads up ok. A registration window appears. You enter the supplied details. Fine. The you have an exercise is more-trouble-than-its-worth. Any list comarison ( whoever needs to do that esoteric action with software ) is limited to two small windows at top. You can reverse the list. You can capitalize everything or lower-case all.... At this point I scratched my nose with my thumb and went to the primary folder. Usefully I found a remove option and ( gladly ) used it. There was some stuff left which I binned manually.

Hi, Thouht I'd give it a go having thought of a good reason to do so and that is, using a program that I have SOMEWHERE on my 'puter construct a list of files on a partition or in a folder to enable me to spot at an instance, duplicated files.

Download and install was fast and smooth. So far so good.

Then tried to copy & paste and it is having none of it.

The only way that I can get it to work is to save file first (as text) and then locate and load file from within the program.

I shall keep it for now but I think that without the C&P functionality this program has let itself down badly.

Interface is pretty lacking too. Looks VERY unfinished.

I am using Windows XP(3) incidentally.

This has to be the lamest giveaway to date. Requires a DEP exception if you have DEP enabled for everything. Only works with files, you can't edit the lists in the windows. Cut and paste doesn't work. This is so lame, it can't even alphabetize correctly. Uppercase and lowercase letters should collate the same. That's as far as I tested. Even a little kid could produce better freeware than this. Please bring back the screensavers--I enjoy them, I use them more than most of the other giveaways, and they don't mess up your PC. The command-line utilities Sort, Find, FindStr, Comp, and FC are far more useful and versatile than this. Then there's real software, like the open-source WinMerge and KDiff3.
