This is a program that finally works, it has enough drivers in it to covert just about anything you can download on the net, into an MP3 (and others, too). Have been looking for something like this for awhile. This really works.

THX Charlotte,

Following your softpedia link, I read the all the editor's review about WinX DVD converter. It seems great, so downloaded and inatalled it.

Like the editor says,"The application offers a 3-step way to convert your movies between the most popular video formats on the market", so simple and moves very fast, most importantly, it's free for ever. I think it's much better than this - only free one day.

If you missed leawo,don't be disappointed, here is another better free video converter for you
Some freatures from their website:

It works. It doesn't do everything one might want or expect. On their site are many FREE converters & tools, such as flv converter, & others (which Ignat Titus above has told us here many times now & in many ways. ROFL)
I wish there were a complete video editor that would do everything we could need it to do, in 1 program. I have Format Factory, but haven't used it yet, so I will try that out next. Thanks for all the comments about itthat does help.

So Ignat Titus, do you own the Leawo company or do you have a supervisor there? If you don't own it, you should have someone like your manager or supervisor come read all your amazing comments here.

Thanks GOTD, Leawo, Ignat Titus, videofan, and all other Leawo employees who commented here. :)

To set aside all the discriminations, I would rather present a real remark of my own as a common user after using it.

The Good
**Nice user interface
**Easy to use
**A wide range of formats supported(although without flv, I hope it will add on later)
**Bunch conversion
**Merge multiple files into one
**Nice editing function like tuning the brightness and contrast, etc. that some other video converters don't have)
**trimming precision down to millisecond(another good feature, why do people above keep ignoring it?)

The Bad
**Does not support flv
**Seems to be a little slow on conversion

We have been too hard on the arguements which are beyond the topic that should be on the software itself. We all hide from the others on this virtual world. Is it too certain to determine who posts the comment? I have seen companies using tactics like pretending to be shills for their opponents so as to discredit their opponents with the faulty pitch they fabricate. We should not judge the software only base on the other comments. I don't think I would like to be an idiot to believe something that is not really true. Whenever there is a GAOTD, I will just test and use it, despite all the good and bad comments anyway.

Thanks again for GAOTD team and hope Leawo would get out of the mess and provide us with a better product later.

This is OFF TOPIC! regarding today's give away.

I would love to say this with every give away, however, I will tag this one today and will leave it be.

THUMBS UP!!! to most of the reports and feedback from FANS here whether the give away be suitable or not.

It is because of you and partly my own common sense that has saved me from D/L many programs here 'free or not!' alone if there are possible problems.

My thumbs UP!!! goes to you guys. Otherwise, I leave the thumbs alone with opinion on software when I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I'm primarily interested in the editing function of this offering.
Does Format Factory have everything this program has?

or does Leawo Video Converter offer additional editing functions for MPEG-4 video?

If Format Factory has editing, then I probably don't need this.

Wow, it amazes me how people complain so much. I love testing all this software; people actually laugh at and mock GOTD because the software isn't "good enough" sometimes? Come on people! It's FREE!
Test it and leave comments about improving the software. Presumably that's what is useful about this for the companies who use it.Its absudrdly arrogant, cheap, and low-class for people to come on here, flame the programmers, laugh at and openly mock people who are "uncool" enough to buy a piece of software, and then plug some freeware that is of course *infinitely* better simply because its free.. Yeah, I'm talking to #29, # 44, etc etc etc etc etc ad nauseum.

Sheesh!

Back with my post

Pros

**Easily installed on Vista 64 OS
**Has several types of input /output
**GUI seems fairly simple to use
**Can accomplish some Video editing
**Does allow of merging of videos but limited
**Drag and Drop feature can be handy
** Ability to batch

Cons
**Resouce hog on Vista
**The time it takes to convert is exceeding long, one was going to take over 6 hours to complete.
**Doesn't have support for FLV
**Doesn't have support or limited fro AVI or SWF
**No help menu I could find
**Have to scroll thru to find your format
**Droped frames
**Output was poor to say the least
**Tried the FLV and was sent to the website to purchase FLV converter seemed like a ruse to get me to buy the product, a total turn off and a unkind ploy.
**After testing I uninstalled and even with Revo uninstaller it left remnants all of the place, I'm still finding them since this morining.

Overall:
I find this to be a great disappointment, for $30 you can by a cheap and unreliable software that doesn't even support the most popular formats. The fact is you shouldn't advertise FLV as an option if you don't even offer it and then swindle your customers to your site to buy an flv converter.

So many programs available that offer so much more and for free. If I had paid the $30 I would have been on the phone canceling my credit card order for such a dissapointing software that is also misleading. How this got as high marks as it did just baffles me.

After uninstalling, I have remains of the program scattered about my computer requiring me to go into safe mode and delete them. This product has a long way to go before anyone should fork over $30 dollars for it.

It is just common sense to offer FLV, AVI, and SWF. Even the waterdowned freewares offer this.

Thanks but no thanks, I stick with the free Format Factory as it has just about every feature I could ask for and then some.

I appreciate the opportunity to test, but not the ruse nor the mess left behind. Shameful tactics in my oppinion.

Thanks to GOTD and the users, I hope the company cleans this up before dishing it out next time.

Well as I posted earlier a 2 hour file I was converting initially said 7 hours, then 7 and a half, well the end time ended up being 8 hours and 35min and some seconds. Way too long. Think I'm gonna uninstall this and pass.

Hi guys,

I find a free alternative-WinX Video Converter on Softpedia, it won Editor's 5-Star (Excellent) rating!!!
I dled it, very easy to use and works fast, recommend you guys to have a try.

http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/WinX-Video-Converter-Review-119203.shtml

EDITOR'S RATINGS:

User Interface: 5-Star
Features: 5-Star
Ease of use: 5-Star
Pricing/Value: 5-Star
Overall: 5-Star

Here is a part of reviews from the softpedia editor-By Ionut Ilascu,13th of August 2009, 14:57 GMT. Hope can give you guys some help.

"The Good

The application offers a 3-step way to convert your movies between the most popular video formats on the market: AVI, MPEG, WMV, MP4, FLV, MOV; and it is also capable of extracting the audio track and save it as an MP3 file.

Seek bar in the movie preview window lets you adjust the beginning and end of the video and convert only that piece. You are also given the possibility to adapt the settings for audio and video so that they fit your standards.

The Bad

We noticed a typo in the initial screen of the application, which, of course, does not affect the conversion process.

The renaming of the output data is a shortcoming we were not expecting. It would have been nice if the application had preserved the name of the input video and not give it a number for a name.

The Truth

WinX Video Converter is free of charge and can be used for as long as you want with no restrictions. Apart from the typo and the naming of the conversion result into number, WinX Video Converter does a fine job. It is reliable and pretty fast on the job, with no hassle at all.

Experienced users have a chance at altering the default values to adapt them to a convenient result, while beginners can leave it all to default. The outcome has good quality but it depends heavily on the input."

GOTD software: "Leawo Video Converter"
Hardware & OS info: Intel Centrino Core-2 Duo 2.0 GHz T6400, in Acer Aspire 8930G "monster laptop", 64-bit Vista Home Premium SP2, with every update & hotfix or patch that Redmond has released for it;
Software Install: Flawless & trouble-free;
Results: It didn't work. Period.
Relevant Details: I tried every kind of video & a/v file format it listed as a possible "input", (including "Customize");
Upon trying to follow the instructions: When it came time to click on the big green "button" to start the conversion, it did nothing at all; Tried the "Open" button, & got an error message every time, telling me that it was unable to open, (or sometimes even FIND), the file, and that I should check to make sure that I gave it the correct input, or that the file may not be of a format that the program could work with, etc., etc.;
(It became a "laundry list" of excuses, always ending with the same basic "plain English" error message "summary" of "It's either your fault, or the file's bad, but either way, You're out of luck").
This is the first time I've EVER gone back & used the "Uninstall" option in the "Start Menu", under the folder it had created named "Leawo", to outright try to completely REMOVE a program, since it simply does NOTHING on my system but tell me it can't do anything, and it's probably my fault. That's a REAL "piece of work" from their PR Dept., I'd say.
I'm about to find out if my onboard, 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound, was affected by this or not;
If so, then I'm very glad I made that last Backup Update last night, which this machine makes two or three versions of, and doesn't give me much options about, unless I want to "pays my nickel & takes my chances"; One is weekly, the other is bi-weekly or monthly.
I'm VERY surprised that the Leawo program had NO trouble locating the files I specified to work with, when I'd hit the button it said to, in order to START the process; and the "Settings" for customizing seemed to work OK too, (but NOT the "greyed out", or in this case, "greened out" button marked "Customize" - it never DID go to any kind of "activated" state, but there were other options available to "customize" the details which DID work, so I figured it was a "little Oopsie" between the folks who wrote the GUI & the ones who wrote the actual "lower-level guts" of the app);
And then, nothing at all when I tried to "start the process" by clicking on the large, green "button" icon, which had NO effect on anything - No change in cursor during a mouseover, nothing after clicking on it, just... Nothing.
Here's hoping my OEM codecs + the extra packs I got from the "K-Lite" selection, (available from MajorGeeks, etc., all freeware), are still working, as the last time I had to start even looking at the "pile o' backup discs", I was relieved to find that I'd remembered to have set a "Restore Point" first, and that it actually WORKED very well, (a nice change for me, who had never had "System Restore" in Win-2000-SP4 thru Win-XP-SP3 EVER work)...
If I can get all of the extra "stuff" from the installation off of the machine, I'll try going with the s/w which has been mentioned many times here already as being something that works well...
I really DO appreciate the try, GOTD, but this one really "struck out" in every way possible, and right after you had that "major List of Malfunctions" from just yesterday (I think);
Oh, and to "Ignat Titus": I tried going to the site you (and possibly others) had specified for the FLV part, and was either sent to the Moyea site (2nd try), or (1st try & most often after the 2nd try leading to Moyea), my system ended up getting the URL of "127.0.0.1" from the local DNS Server, (which is every Windows machine's Internal Loopback address, and will get you nowhere fast)...
And considering that my ISP is one of only two Gateways I'm aware of in the USA, their DNS servers are quite massive;
(Unless things have changed quite a bit in the years since I started "web-surfing"):
For those who thought that the Internet and the World Wide Web are the same thing, surprise! They're not; a Gateway provider is who your system goes through to go from the Internet to the WWW, & the other way around, so if your ISP is also a major Gateway, then "if they can't find it, its very likely that it's not to be found".
(If this HAS changed since the Internet was borne from the ArpaNet, please enlighten me, as I don't want to spread incorrect information anywhere, at any time).
Thanks for trying, GOTD, I'm not giving up on you because of a couple of "setbacks" that arent' your fault!
(And to Karen #37 & #38, who mentioned that GOTD has to get the licenses, and we, the Users, who spend our time, {and sometimes risk our unrelated data in case of a downloaded piece which "crashed" our system with our data still on it), & who pointed out that we spend out time "testing" the software that we get from GOTD;
...I only would wish that those who are sometimes too quick to criticize think about these things BEFORE posting "flames" at anyone or anything...
...There are plenty of Newsgroups for that kind of thing; This "Comments" space is for things related to the Software Of The Day, and not 50 repeats of the same rants about this, that & the other.
Thanks again to GOTD, who has obviously TRIED to get us something that would work, after the previous day's s/w offering, with it's plethora of problems; But again, they can only do so much, and they DO quite a bit, just to get a publisher to agree to allow the thousands (if not more) of copies of software to be given out for free, (no "trialware" or similar, with "substantial discounts" to people who tried & "beta-tested" the s/w from GOTD first), I'm still amazed that GOTD isn't "taken advantage of" MUCH more, by the small software outfits who figure: "If we give it to them for free, then we sit back and have a good "Field Testing", and we'll see what we need to fix, and they can't complain about any "legal issues" if something doesn't work, since we can always offer a "Money Back Guarantee", & if it messes up our "Company Image", we're such a new, startup company that we'll just change our name, and the bad press goes out with the old name - Gone.
Thanks again, GOTD staff, for trying, I can see that you really wanted to try to "make things right" for the previous s/w "foul-up", (which wasn't YOUR fault), and seems to be just a matter of "They did it to you, & to us, again";
Sometimes all you can do is take some else's word for something, and test it as best you can in a limited time, and go from there;
"If I had a hundred dollars for every progtam that I've BOUGHT which didn't work & I never got any kind of refund on, I'd be richer than Bill Gates!", but I can't , so I'm not.
"If it isn't one thing, it's another!", (a fitting quote from the late Gilda Radner).

Leawo Video Converter isn't too bad IMHO as these sorts of video converters go. It could be better, but the same can be said for almost every bit of software.

First off, it's *almost* self-contained -- it shares a somewhat bad trait with apps like Format Factory (& many others), installing video processing code that registers with Windows, & so can interfere with other video software. They're all right by themselves, but if you have a fair amount of video software you're asking for trouble.

Leawo Video Converter could also be a bit better when/where it comes to custom settings for the encoders, & by letting you use those codecs you have installed. While it does have a much newer version of Xvid than anything recent on GOTD, Leawo's converter won't let you see (& set) Xvid's own settings dialog. While it is easier to use & nicer looking than many free-ware video front ends [GUIs that tie together several free-ware apps], this lack of flexibility means a lot of folks will still choose the free-ware alternatives.

My 3rd [& last] suggestion would be some sort of control to advance the video in the cropping window -- most video starts black, & you can't very well cut off letter-boxing for example if you can't see it.

Leawo Video Converter almost looks familiar, meaning it uses the same sort of styling as the other video converters that have been on GOTD. Directions take up the left upper 1/3 of the window until you import video, making it hard to get this app wrong. While it does not list VOB files [from DVD] or the separate video inside them, it accepted both. Speed of conversion was on the slower side using imported mpg2 [DVD] video, & slower still when outputting full sized frames. [encoding DVD video from mpg2 source takes about ~1/3 real-time on this PC using other software -- this video converter took about 1/4 + real-time for mpg2 -> Xvid]. Converting web video, wmv to Xvid for example, with 1/4 sized frames in/out, was actually fairly quick. CPU load was ~25% on a quad. Results were acceptable, but barely -- while average video looked good, fast zooms & pans showed a lot of artifacts from the original video interlacing [i.e. like someone's flipping black blinds open & closed very rapidly].

Looks like Leawo and Moyea are the same company! Take a look at their resprective About Us pages and you'll see virtually the same thing.

Leawo:

and

"We tenaciously adhere to the mission of becoming a leader in developing and delivering state-of-the-art, stable and focused software solutions for individuals, businesses and development engineers around the globe to process flash, graphics and images, audio and video with the ambition to enrich their business value, maximize their productivity and diversify their lives."

They try to hide it, but they are the same company. I wonder why they need to do that?

Hi guys,

as usual when VIDEO (and AUDIO) CONVERTERS come into play almost none of them can beat the AWARD-WINNING and FREEWARE FORMATFACTORY, the king of CONVERTERS far superior to most of video converter shareware out there such as the one offered today!!!

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Image-Convertors/FormatFactory.shtml

(Last version)

What’s new in FormatFactory 2.10:

· Added “All to Custom”
· Added “Watermark”, support png,bmp,jpg
· Added “Mux”
· Added “Video Crop”
· Fixed AV sync of some wmv files.
· Fixed problem of ffdshow filter installation

Everybody understood that except the GAOTD TEAM that stubbornly continues to offer products like this one, easily replaceable with better FREEWARE ALTERNATIVES, after paying expensive LICENCES to their developers for the 24 hour Giveaway license (what a waste of money, isn't it?? LOL!!)!!!

How many VIDEO (or AUDIO) CONVERTERS have been released by GAOTD over the past few weeks??

So my FINAL VERDICT is the same as it has been for every other VIDEO (and AUDIO) CONVERTER released by GAOTD over the past 8 months (or more??):

Download FormatFactory!!!

Be happy, don't worry!!

Enjoy!!

LOL!!

Cheers from Italy.

Giovanni

Let me followup my post with a quick comment. There is a player screen that can be used to see the original or the converted version. It has an aspect ratio of 4:3 and apparently can't be changed. Also, it appears to be the case that if you want to do a second conversion you must close the program and reopen it. This time I tried the same tv show in divX and converted it to .h264. The size increased from 350mb to 550mb. It appears that it will take about 20 minutes to do the conversion.

Does this software support all video resolutions the PSP can display? Most similar software that creates PSP video is set to the standard 320x240, but PSP does support 480x272 for video. Can this software generate PSP video in 480x272 resolution?

It installs correctly on Win 7 x64 RC. I took a divX file of an "hour" tv show and converted it into an .asf windows streaming video. It claimed to take about 15 minutes so I went off to shower, have breakfast, etc and when I returned in about 45 minutes it was done. I had set the quality to high for both audio and video. It worked and when I watched (via VLC) the quality seemed worse than the original, but still acceptable. I do most of my conversions on my mac using handbrake and the quality here doesn't seem quite as good, but making comparisons from memory is not very reliable.

Can anyone help me in answering the following:
1. Does it convert .dat (earlier video files) to divx or mp4?
2. How much time it takes to convert 1GB of movie (.vob files) to divx or mp4?
3. What is the best minimum configuration required for a computer system to convert easily. Ex. for a 500MB RAM, 2200 AMD athelon how much time will it take to convert a 1GB movie file .vob (pretty old config.)?

PS. I agree with #29, we aren't all here to get free products and they aren't free, they cost GOTD, take our time to test products we don't need just because many of us enjoy doing so. Like AnzooSoft's nice appology for a disrespectul rep, I too would much rather deal with a company that wants feedback and recognize when they are out of line or have a Rep who basically discreits their company and good name.

Keep up the good work testers and post your actual findings to help these companies it is up to them to make the needed changes. You'll have my full report tonight.

Sorry, I can't post my full review right now but will do so later,

What a big dissapointment and I'm still cleaning up files left over after uninstalling this program that doesn't support even the most common features FLV, AVI, and SWF.

I'll catch up with all later but,

Big Thumbs down I'll stick with the free Format Factory. This offering has been a dissappoinmtent and I'm still cleaning up after it.

More to come. Thanks to all.

#29, Mike, that GOTD was Gold Wave, not Goldwave. It was a completely different program and worked quite well (as all the audio editors have since they are all basically the same editor), but using the same name was either an innocent mistake or a deliberate attempt to cash in on another product's reputation.

Regarding #13 I have 64-bit Vista and it worked okay. Short video I converted however had some frames dropped.
As for another free alternative, I've been using Any Video Converter (free version) for a while and really like it.

My comments on this are much the same as the previous Leawo offering. It has horrible installation, horrible coding, and is an extreme security risk. I'm not going to bother with Leawo any more. As I mentioned last time, Leawo and Moyea are the same. This installs and registers a bunch of common codecs in its own folder. This always requests Internet access, uses the Moyea Updater, requests direct disk access (extreme security risk, which I block, and apparently keeps Leawo applications from functioning), etc. If you don't care about security or screwed-up codecs, use it at your own risk. I'd rather GOTD skip a day than offer crapware. There's no reason at all why Leawo can't write clean code. Regarding codecs, it's not only fine but strongly preferred for an application to install its own copies in its own folder, unregistered and strictly for use by that application. There's no good reason for the vast majority of applications to blindly install and register crapware codecs, breaking lots of other multimedia applications.

Well as I posted in #27 I am converting a file I had issues with converting and it said it would be 7 hours for a 2hour file... well now its up at 7 hours and 35minutes. Instead of going up, the time estimated is going up, and time in a conversion is a big thing for me. 1 hour, 2 hours, even double the length of the file I would deal with but almost quadruple time? No, not acceptable. I wonder how long this will really end up taking but as of now 7 hours 33min.

Hello All

I have to admit that 2,3 & 4 are so sickly sweet with praise that IF THEY'RE NOT SHILLS - then they are people who don't get the point of this comments section !!!

To those who want to praise a product - PLEASE tell us WHY U like the product BUT BE OBJECTIVE - what didn't U like about it - is it worth the usual asking price - are there other softwares that compare ??

Personally I don't believe that no.13 was a shill as he/she was actually far less positive about the product - to the extent that mentioning a FREE RIVAL PRODUCT to be as good & I don't generally believe that ALL broken English comments are plants ( we all make typos ) BUT U can usually tell the quality of a product & PUBLISHER by their interaction with us here & the lack of "GLOWING TRIBUTES" to the software in the first 5 entries.

It's not to long ago that we had one commentator who'd contacted the publisher over their shameful inclusion of AD-Ware & IE Settings changer in their GiveAway - only to receive an email with the response "What Do U Expect ?" . . . Err - I think we expect a little better than that !

More recently however I'm pleased to say that there have been a few companies who have interacted from the first few posts - throughout the day - offereing explainations / apollogies & even replacing a faulty product - THESE are the types of companies that we need more of !!!

IF a company has to resort to SHILLS in the first 5 comments - they obviously don't hold much fait in their own product. Whereas ( In My Opinion ) to be able to say - sorry guys - we screwed up - but we've sorted it now - it shouldn't have happened & we're genuinely sorry - these are the companies I'd sooner deal with !!!

IF they can be OPEN & HONEST with their users / critics - then there's a high probability that their products are decent honest softwares - worth every penny the charge for. We really need MORE companies like these on GAOTD !!!

If we didn't guys like Ashraf & Bubby ( MUCH RESPECT GUYS ) then we'd be a lot worse off because these unscrupulious companies would be chucking in shills left, right & center & we'd have little concrete information to dispell them !!!

Sadly I can't comment on today's Video Editing software because I never edit Video - I've done TONNES of AUDIO EDITING & I can't wait for GOLDWAVE to come around again - that is one ROCK SOLID bit of kit - I've been using since the '90s but I'd quite like the up-to-date version :o)

In closing I'd like to say to those companies who use GAOTD to promote / Test their products - YES - we want to hear what U have to say about Ur products BUT NOT in the form of SHILLS -

DON'T TREAT US LIKE IDIOTS - Just because we want FREE software - doesn't make us THICK !!! Treat your users with dignity & they will respond in kind OTHERWISE U'LL GET THE BAD REPUTATION U DESERVE !!!

To the Guys & Gals @ GAOTD - U provide an invaluable service - THANK U
. . . Please ignore any TYPOs that slipped through :o)

Cheers For Now Folks

Well I've been having issues converting a file so I can use it in Windows Movie Maker and nothing has produced a file, this program seems to be converting it BUT it says its gonna be like 7 hours to convert a 2 hour video, I'll let it finish but to me thats a thumbs down, too long to convert one file.

Yet another ripoff of Moyea software.

This app connects directly to the Moyea video site upon execution. I've blocked it using PC Tools Firewall Plus.

I'll let you know later how to get rid of unnecessary files.

In fact, if you've downloaded video converters in the past from GOAD (and there were many of them, try a search for audiodelaycomp.dll, auth3260.dll, colorcvt.dll, encn3260.dll, MP4Splitter.ax, MpaDecFilter.ax, rembrdcst.dll, xvid.ax, zlib1.dll just to name a few. They are scattered all over the hard drive.
