You need not have to move the 'activate_leadertask.ltkey' key file anywhere in order to make it run. To make the key file run, all you need to do is install LeaderTask first. After installation, you should be able to run the key from anywhere...whether it is in some LeaderTask program folder, still in the extracted folder, or otherwise. Apparently, it should even run from the zip folder that it was downloaded in...again, just make sure that LeaderTask is installed first.

I thought I'd offer this tidbit of information to alleviate confusion and to make correction to previously posted information that was illogical in action and thought.

Also, there has been statements regarding LeaderTask being portable. I cannot tell for sure whether it is or not, but what I can tell you is that running the key file causes information to be written to the registry of the computer; thus, if the program is dependent upon any of the info in the registry after it is run after registering it, then it is obviously not portable.

However, running the key file might just be using the registry only at that time for commands to write, and/or change, data to file(s) within the LeaderTask program folder(s). Thus, in this case, the LeaderTask program might be portable. Anybody else have info on this?

To #130 A quick flick through the comments show most people have issues with. download, set up and registration, so these comments are quite valuable to the community as a whole . Yes, some do get duplicated, but as there is a "time lag" betwen posting and viewing due to moderation, sometimes this is unavoidable.
Please remember that not all of us here are blessed with your intuative genius for IT.
2nd, words such as seems etc which seem to offend you are appropriate as no one user can state for certain sure how any application will behave on another machine.
3rd, sure, an indepth analysis WOULD be great, but sometimes this can take a while to "play" with a programme, explore it to it's fullest etc, and as the offer is only available for 24 hours, this oten is not really a serious option.
Lastly do read before you write, this is actually a comments section, not a review page.
#132 loved your post, glad someone can keep a sense of humour!
Keep up the good work GOTD team

To #51 - ebax - The ‘NO BUSINESS USE’ specification is from GAOTD NOT the software vendor (If you read the install agreement, there is NO such stipulation).

Sorry, but you're wrong in this particular case.

If you visit the Almeza site, you'll see that the HOME edition is $49.95 and the BUSINESS edition is $119.95. And if you click on the "Buy" button there, you'll see both editions described, and here's what it says about the Home edition: Home license entitles you to use the program on Home computers only. This type of license doesn't suit for a company.

The license key for the GOTD version of the program registers the Home edition.

So... both GOTD and the developer are saying this is for home/personal use and not for business/commercial use.

Installs, runs on XP SP3. Seems very similar to Essential PIM. For free it's good, doubt that I would pay $49.95 for it. Kudos to Giovanni for pointing me to EasyNoter, although now I have to get an organizer to keep track of my organizers (sheepish grin)

Thumbs Up, and thank you GOTD, keep up the good work.

ONCE AGAIN, can we PLEASE have software that runs (and preferably installs) under Limited User privileges? Vista -AND- XP.

I expect that a reasonable business plan for the Russian Mafia would be to, in fact, write decent software and give it away free or at ridiculously low prices - but force Administrator privileges for usage. Let it sleep for a couple of months and then scour disks for financial details and passwords - and make a killing!

Limited User privileges prevent access to files and data that a user program is not entitled to access.

Enforce Access Privileges, PLEASE, software publishers!

@ #121(106)80 Tom Magoo - the registration is for the CURRENT program. No updates, no revisions; nothing!

Everything else is new, a future version, ergo prohibited. Easy ;-)

#68 (Increase) said that this version will not automatically read entries from a previous version. Has anyone else had this problem?
If so, then this software should only be used for tasks and info that you will not want to keep long term.

Also, #109 (Pinoy.ca) said that this program offers no data export (to some standard format). If so, this also means that the program should not be sued for data you wish to keep for the long term.

P.S. I've been using PIMs for 20+ years, so my advice is based on hard-learned experience.

Hmm. Looks like it still shows as "UNREGISTERED", but it seems to work without nag screens. Maybe that is all it will do.

Works pretty well though.

I would STRONGLY recommend offering a link with this problem to instructions (user guide, quick install, usage tips, etc.)

Installed and registered on Windows XP Professional 64 Bit.

I successfully installed the application without moveing the activate_leadertask.ltkey file.

1. Run the setup.exe file. Ensure application installs.
2. Run the application once! Exit the application.
3. Double-click the file activate_leadertask.ltkey.
4. You will get a message that the application is registered.

That's it.

Almost daily I see comments here from people who say, now that they've installed the software, they're going to try it out.

Spare us, people! Don't bother posting until after you've tried the program. If your comments include words such as, 'seems', 'maybe', 'will try', or 'later', please check yourself. And it would be really cool if you make sure that you're not just repeating what has already been posted, such as installation/registration instructions.

Installed and set up a breeze, win 2003 ent server, saved to flash disk so I can take it with me. Activated fine, close, reopened, Voila, it comes bck again. Seems to do what it says, later I will plan my next working week, on holiday now, Chinese Lunar New Year

The first comment today was "No Vista support :( Thumbs down for me". Does anyone realize that the real problem is that Windows is not compatible with Windows? Thumbs down for Microsoft Windows should not be redirected to GAOTD software. As a matter of fact, just about every problem I have seen is associated with Windows, it's registry, dll's or other short-comings of Windows. Votes should be on the merits of the software offered.

HI all!!

63% THUMBS DOWN for this GAOTD??? Can't believe my eyes!!

What's wrong with this program, for this kind of rating? Maybe is it because there is no VISTA support??

Actually I think that it should be necessary to have actually TRIED the program before given it a rating but unfortunately many people here vote the GAOTD according to their personal needs rather than to its features so if they don't need it they give one or more THUMBS DOWN ro the program, regardless of its real value.

In my humble view it would be a great idea if the VOTING SYSTEM could be limited just to people who have actually downloaded and tried the GAOTD, for instance giving them a CODE once downloaded it.

The result would be a far more accurate picture of how GOOD or BAD the GAOTD actually is, as misleading BAD RATINGS actually may affect the quality of the (future) programs offered here on the long term because the flawed rating system could actually discourage the best software developers from offering their products here as they do not want to get beat up with lots of unfair thumbs down (most of GAOTD visitors here are only affected by the FINAL USER RATING of the program rather than by the comments published in the forum).

As matters stand, if I were a (serious) COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, I wouldn't embrace GOTD as a medium for advertising my product, giving its licence to GAOTD's visitors for FREE, since most of the times the products here are rated by people who didn't even try them (and in fact it's not an accident that all programs offered here on a daily basis have often been already given away only a couple of months ago, but if they got 60% thumbs down a couple of months ago and the slurp is more or less the same it's likely that they might get a quick thumbs down even now...LOL!!)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, having said that, as far as I'm concerned this GAOTD is a pretty good software for busy people who believe that TIME IS MONEY (MANAGERS, BUSINESSMEN etc…) even though, unlike the freeware RAINLENDAR, it doesn't have a SOUND FILE FEATURE to use as "alarm" when the scheduled event or the deadline commitment is approaching.

BEST FEATURES of this GAOTD:

1. Hassel free, Easy to Use.
2. Can Import contacts from Outlook and export them to Outlook, CSV and TXT formats etc...
3. Print your daily schedules.
4. Multiple 'profiles'
5. Profile password protection

As for the FREEWARE ALTERNATIVES, besides those rightly mentioned by ASHRAF and others here, I would add:

- Memorex
- Unforgiven Organizer
- Total Organizer Free

And above all EasyNoter 3.7, a powerful user-friendly Personal Information Manager resembling a real-world organizer encased in a beautiful "leather" cover with built-in LCD clock that also displays the date.

http://www.artplus.hr/adapps/eng/easynote.htm

With this pretty cool tool you can jot down notes (Notes section), addresses (Address section), daily duties (Diary), photographs (Photo Album) or pop up reminders (Reminder section) so you can add documents, links and even images to your notes.

The Reminder facility is greatly improved (it can even be used to run external programs at given time intervals) allowing users to apply for single, hourly, weekly, monthly or yearly reminders for many years ahead, with cool little options, that this GAOTD does not have, such as:

- the ALARMS FEATURE, which can take the form of a traditional "bleep" (but you can also record a customized sound or even launch an external application...LOL!!).

- the ability to launch 4 user-definable applications using an in-built quick-launch bar and a handy photo album for storing images of your choice.

Did I say that it's FREE?? LOL!!

FULL REVIEW of this little (and pretty unknown) GEM here:

h ttp://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/downloads/2128266/easynoter-lite

(remove space at beginning)

As you can see there is also an even more powerful PRO version (worth $29.95) with some additional features (double page text, spell checker, password protection etc...), but if you need a professional Personal Information Manager look no further: the FREEWARE EasyNoter LITE VERSION is an impressive tool that does its job pretty well and in style (and maybe it's even better than this GAOTD, but pssssss don't spread the word please...let's keep it secret between me and you.... LOL!!).

Cheers from Italy!!

Giovanni, the most hated blogger in the Italian GAOTD forum (see the GAOTD forum for more information...and have fun...LOL!!)

Downloaded and installed fine on XP SP3 I simply followed the instructions. I have looked at this software while doing an exhaustive search for a good PM software. Leader Task seems to be a good piece of software but it is one that you will have to spend some time working with to fully understand how it works. The help file is non existent it takes you to their website which is marginal at best. I am going to try this software for awhile and see if it will work the way I want it too. I will say this software is probably the 2nd best software for managing projects I have looked at. iLore's ProjectTrak has been the best one I have reviewed, but its price is a little too high.

If you are looking for a task manager there are better software products for that ie essential pim or Time and Chaos but if you are wanting a Project Management Software Leader Task is well worth looking at. I am a construction PM so document attachment is critical for any software I choose to use.

In closing if you want a task manager try something else if you actually manage projects whether it software, construction or what ever give Leader Task a try just don't expect to be up and running full steam for a while.

Still no data export.

I greatly recommend against using a PIM software without a data export feature. You'll never know when you may need or want to switch to a different app, and you find your info, contact, schedules and data stuck on what you've been using for months. I've been there and having one's data hostaged is very unpleasant.

Don't say I didn't tell you.

The Good:
- Pretty intuitive, though you have to play around a bit because most of the icons only have tooltips, not labels
- Really, really, easy filtering such as selecting the time interval you want by just dragging on top of the calendar
- Lots of options (and colors) for organizing into groups, projects, etc.
- Very customizable interface so you can display exactly what you want (or not), plus autohide
- Nice looking interface, once you learn what the icons mean, but you don't need to because there are also keyboard shortcuts that are easy to see

What's missing:
- 24 hr time (no am/pm option that I could find)
- Events are displayed as tasks (i.e., there are no events), and thus have extra settings that are irrelevant
- Doesn't seem to have default settings for things (such as always setting a reminder)

In the end, I have more events than tasks and don't need such a fully-featured program; I like Lightning well enough to stick with it. But, I was impressed enough to want to write this review so that people with other needs would have reason to check it out. Sure, lots of people don't need something like this, but if you do this is definitely one to try.

p.s. If you just follow the instructions to register it works perfectly.

No instruction in the help file, and nothing obvious either. It is possible to import ical data, but only from a file, not a from a link as needed for google calendar. No pointers in their website or in their forums.

I've been following the GAOTD offerings for well over a year now, and I continue to be amazed at the vast number of ignoramuses that comment on these offerings. For instance, the commenter who compares Wirecharger to today's offering, LeaderTask. Did this bozo even install and work with LeaderTask. There's no way that someone with an IQ over 10 would compare these two programs.

I have downloaded and installed a number of the Giveaway offerings, and LeaderTask is the only application that I was compelled to buy. Although I use Outlook as our business standard, LeaderTask's ability to manage projects and tasks blows away Outlook's pathetic task manager feature.

Additionally, for the buffoons claiming that this won't run on Vista, I've been using LeaderTask on Vista for over six months and have never run into any problem.

LeaderTask really requires no installation - you can install it on a portable drive with no problem, or copy to anywhere you choose to run it from. This is a first class product that I would highly recommend. It is well supported by the developer as well as the user community. They are constantly providing feature updates and tweaks.

This is a great offering - I've already bought it and use it. Don't miss the chance to get this one for free!

I'm guessing the instructions are either in the help file or you don't need instructions, you just click something like "synchronize" and then follow the steps. Is that so? (I have not downloaded LeaderTask.)
