I found that this software was rather simplistic and un-professional. I couldn't even rip audio CD's, and the audio quality for conversion was downright crappy.
I found that using windows media player to rip audio CD's (or Itunes) is still a better alternative, and there's plenty of freeware software that you can find using google that will even convert most formats.
Overall, this is a horrible piece of software.

Sorry, I have no need for this app. I have one that works great already. Just wanted to thank #54, KB. www.all4you.dk/FreewareWorld/ - 34k ( Freeware World Team)is indeed a great link. Once again, it just goes to show "your never too old to learn".

However, I’d also like to add that I find the incessant commenting on GotD about the national origin of software developers to be increasingly annoying and extremely ignorant. If anyone imagines that the most brilliant and best educated programmers in the world are NOT a completely international bunch, then they are very poorly informed. I’m sick and tired of reading sneering remarks by people who probably can’t order lunch in any language other than English, or even compose a ‘hello world’ program - let alone write a technical document in Chinese, or a multimedia converter for the Windows platform.

Lose the narrow minded parochial attitude, people, because it’s downright pathetic.

i just can't help but thank everyone who has commented today.

i won't download based upon the total reviews. i suspect jie.wu (#6) may still be looking for a good company to join. i also suspect that if you read Chinese(simplified), the help may be more pertinent. could also be that hardware concerns (64 bit vs 32) have much more topical utility than has been previously thought.

sales people who do the job right will almost always get you technology that will cause trouble, rather than just do what you want.
and nobody in the real business world will work with Win98SE even though it is the Best gaming system so far. (not necessarily Graphically, but definitely play/plots/arcades) Lots of great business solutions too, but NOT SUPPORTED by MicroSoft.

A third world company (isn't China sort of both a first world and a half for outlying provinces and bordering countries?) has less trouble listing the usablity of "outdated" OS, but you still run into hardware compatability issues.

We are graced with the presence of John, a company rep, and That Is A Good Thing.

John, you have made possible the biggest laugh today with your penultimate "typonese" (fancy talk for misspellings that spew from keyboards everywhere).

I will wait on upgrading to Vista, until Vista Vutimate comes out.

Good day GAOTD!

Download, install and registration on XP Pro SP2 w/updates went smoothly.

Was a bit amused/dissapointed that the installation routine said I was installing "mp3" (you'll see if you install it).

The GUI is clumsy - I get the impression that this is either a work in progress with features that do not work yet OR the opposite - that this was a programme that did more and has been stripped down.

Even though you can't maximize the window in the usual manner you can resize it by dragging corners/edges - have fun with that - it gets even sloppier to look at.

It doesn't make sense to include additional encoder exe's in the programme folder if it only uses the LAME encoder to convert to mp3. There may be more that could be stripped from this to make it leaner.

Having said that today's offering is bloated.

My Tests

Audio from FLV to mp3 - successful
Audio from AVI to mp3 - successful
Audio from WMV to mp3 - successful

Audio from DVD VOB to mp3 - Partially successful

Due to not being able to choose which audio track on the DVD that you want to encode to mp3 I ended up with the French track.

Even though I didn't run every file it says it can handle I don't think it should have too much trouble, if any, with other formats that don't have several audio track options such as a DVD has.

As others have noted it would be a huge plus to be able to tweak encoder settings. Also as stated there are freeware alternatives, just follow the links others already posted!

For this software to be worth the $29 or so dollars it would have to do more and do it flawlessly. I hope KingConvert Inc. achieve that.

Warning - some may be offended by the following verbal diarrhea.

I'm glad that John from the developers team tried to be of help to some and ashamed at some of the criticism directed towards him and the company he works for. If you don't like translation problems, may I suggest you help by posting the problems you see (or contacting the developer directly) in a manner that is more constructive, positive and will benefit not only the developer but possibly yourselves. That is one of the reasons for this site after all.

Anyway, as always thanks to GAOTD and also to KingConvert Inc. for the opportunity to check out this software.

Is it legal to release a commercial product that uses mencoder source code? Mencoder is gpl-2 freeware. (meaning, others can use your code, but not for commercial products - or that's what I was thinking anyway.)
