It’s not a bad program, I guess, but I wouldn’t really pay $25 for it. As a free download it’s fine. For just simple, everyday JPEG compression, I wasn’t able to notice too much difference, but I put it to the test saving through Photoshop at 0,1, and 2 quality JPEGs, and if you mess around with the advanced settings in JPEG Enhancer, you can actually get some pretty good results. Naturally, the image still looks better saved at 10-12 JPEG quality, but still, if you’ve got some terribly artifacted JPEGs, you may as well give it a try.

Not worth it…very little (actually zero) difference noticed between original and “result” when used on multiple photos. There is some loss during jpeg compression, but it depends on the level of detail your photo has and the quality of the original. This may enhance the quality of some photos, but it didn’t do anything for mine.

Jpeg Enhancer don’t work on Vista. Crashes instantly.

There is no way this software can work as advertised. JPEG is a “lossy” compression algorithm, meaning that some of the visual information will be lost during the compression process. Once lost, there is no way to recover that information from a compressed image. I suppose for free (a.k.a. nothing) it’s worth the price.

The old adage about sounding too good to be true applies here. After playing around with it for a few minutes, I decided there might be an occasion where this tool could be useful, but it certainly doesn’t work as advertised. Very heavily compressed jpegs can certainly be improved using the tool, but the results are still very, very far from the claim that it “recovers [the images] completely, meaning that your images will look the same as they did before the JPEG compression!” Mine came out looking flat and lifeless and no matter how much I tweaked the settings, I could not get anything close to the original, uncompressed image. Bottom line: as a free download, I’ll hang on to it just in case. But I certainly wouldn’t pay anything for it.
