Just a quick note for those that wish to use this for legitimate/non P2P services, such as BitTorrent. You will be unable to connect to any user who has a IP shield-list program installed and Level 2 protections.

Many VPN/Proxy services such as this one use random unallocated IPs.
You WILL be blocked by shield-lists. Just a thing to note. You may have web access protections, but this isn't a good choice for P2P users. Try using a paid service with dedicated constant ranges.

I have used Jon Do

http://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/

off and on for several years. They claim that they are the only anonomizing service that does NOT have a back door that can be used to sniff out your true IP. They had both free public(slower)servers as well as pay for (faster0 private servers the last time that I used them.

It has been about six months since I fired Jon Do up because I found that Hotspot Shield was faster and did the joh at the click of a single button. :- )

Thanks, fellow Giveaway participators for your objective heads up comments abouot iSurfer Shield.

The pgm installed without a hitch, registered - but didn't recognize it was registered (even though it thanked me for registering) until I restarted the program. I was easily able to update the web proxies and ended up with a lot more than other people had described (Brazil, Lots in the states, Japan... etc.) although, none in Canada (where I am).

As soon as I turned the sheild on my internet connection went from over 8Mbps down to where no web pages were loading properly, even refreshing the page didn't help (sometimes proxies require a reload of the page). The one page that I did get to load had flash content that worked fine before, but wouldn't work at all once iSurfer Shield was initiated. I couldn't get any web pages to work - at all! I tried several of the proxies, but to no avail.
Too many problems to go further with this one - I'll uninstall it.
Thanks Anyhow!

I certainly like this product but not as much as TOR or Proxyway, both are free. If you would like to test your surfing go here:

FWIW, proxy severs don't have to be hard to setup or use -- there are free proxy server software packs designed so almost anyone can get one up & running, & to use a proxy server you often just go to the server's site & enter whatever url you want. AFAIK there are 2 main reasons to go through an on-line proxy server: 1) the country you're in is blocked [whether censored or for commercial reasons (e.g. broadcast network video streaming)], or 2) privacy related concerns [e.g. you don't want to be traced].

If you want to leave [at least close to] zero tracks, use one of the portable TOR browser packages that are available for free... that way you don't have the usual browser left-over tracks on your hard drive, & don't have to worry about setting/re-setting anything with your primary web browser. TOR proxies are anonymous [they keep no records/logs of who used them], are selected at random, & chained [you go through several instead of just 1]. However, like most free proxies it's slow, plus with the focus on privacy, what you can view or get is somewhat limited -- you're probably not going to want to visit media rich Flash-based sites, but then if that stuff all worked, it could well defeat the purpose of hiding your ID.

Bear in mind that most proxy sites state right up front that everything's logged, & they will turn those logs over to the gov or law enforcement on request. And using a proxy server in & of itself also does nothing to mask the data traveling between you & the proxy -- that's a separate issue.

Running most any on-line server costs money, & while many folks & organizations provide free services of one sort or another, doing so for profit should [at least in theory] mean higher levels of service -- in the case of proxy servers less crowding, more available bandwidth/speed, & possibly greater security, for example encrypting traffic to/from. Personally I think Giant Matrix needs to sell folks on why they should buy a iSurfer Shield subscription, rather than just using Google/Bing to find free proxies.

That said, common sense suggests that in many cases hiding your ip address is almost on the same level as wearing tinfoil hats for protection from aliens or whatever. :-) An ip can often be traced to a company or gov agency, while to trace the identity of a home using just an ip address normally means getting the ISP to hand over that data. In either case ask what harm can come from knowing someone at a particular location visited some site or other on-line, & what would whomever do with that info, assuming they could get it? As for any web site itself, the bad guys want you to visit a site that can execute code on your PC/laptop, or trick you into downloading mal-ware etc. They already know what ip addresses are assigned to your ISP, & scan those to find unprotected PCs/laptops. They could care less about your physical address, & your name's only valuable if it comes with enough personal data for credit card fraud &/or identity theft. Long story short, if you're not doing something illegal [or something you think shameful from a company or gov ip], &/or there's not a repressive gov that might come after you, why would you care about hiding your location?

This is just a single proxy switcher with a live update feature.
There are many freeware and shareware proxy switchers/IP hiders available, some use a single proxy (such as today's offering), some use a VPN (Hotspot Shield), others use their own technologies (Tor).

I usually use Tor if I want or need to hide my IP. It is free and does not depend on a single proxy to hide your real IP.

Don't complain about speed, all proxies/IP hiders are slow, because the data has to go through multiple different (and often slow) servers. Proxies/IP hiders are only suitable for browsing, but not for downloading large files.
