@110 Rob, me boy, even I gave you a YES (useful) vote for the effort you took to show that I'm an obsolete old dawg. My apologies to Teorex for ranting about them being nonstandard. From now on, I'll rant about their embracing the new idiot standard that Microsoft is apparently trying to cram down everyone's throat. Not that you'll be surprised but this old dawg still uses Word2003 when not using Open Office or something else non-Microsoft) so I've not been exposed to that horror show except with InPaint. Perhaps a harbinger of the new "ribbon" is also on Wonderstory(?) products' - they have a similar primitive looking pale blue gui, albeit one that doesn't disappear to my recollection. After we've imprinted on a process through daily use, Microsoft delights in bombing powerusers back to square one with new versions. The millions of manhours wasted is very sad.

@ graylox -
I have a very powerful PC mate - Athlon x64 5200+ ATI HD4850 and 4GB ram.
I edit digital photos regularly, so maybe you should stop thinking everyone is a newbie with an outdated PC...
Your example of the lighthouse pic hardly does the job quoted above -
"It is alarmingly simple to use. Draw a selection around the object you wish to remove from the picture, and run smart remove selection. Inpaint will fill the selection area with intelligently generated texture drawn from the surrounding image data." considering the fact that you did not remove the WHOLE lighthouse, only small sections.
If I had to remove the lighthouse in small sections, it would be quicker to use a clone tool !
I'll stick with Corel's PSPX2, at least I know I can clone out anything I want quickly and easily....

Thank you very much Teorex and GOTD for this wonderful programme, I'm using it since we got it the first time. Yes the giants of Adobe or Corel and GIMP may have the same abilities meanwhile, but why should I wait until those programmes are ready for takeoff just to remove a lighthouse ;)

@ # 97 Wmplynig: I copied your original picture and got this result with inpaint:
http://www.picdepict.com/images/71366760334858884859.jpg

Firstly you should learn how to use it and secondly your computer needs enough power for this job.

@ # 119 Dana: Of course, the programmes operate fine from a flash drive, but only as long as they have access to the registry on your C: drive. Most of the GOTD software is NOT portable. Without your "original" registration you will end with a trial version.

This does well to attempt to create a pattern that fits the selected source area but it has some drawbacks.

First, there is no feather available for the selected area which can make the removed part of the image stand out from the rest.

It also doesn't seem to sample from the pixels surrounding the selected destination area. Tests have caused the selected destination area to have a different hue than the surrounding pixels until a better source area was selected.

Diagonal patterns running behind the selected source object weren't attempted to be maintained even when similar diagonal patterns were chosen in the selected source area.

It's a decent tool but might be best used in conjunction with Photoshop masking to help blend the areas that are removed.

I agree with #13 wrt Portability.
Please find portable software that does similar job.
In general, try to make all software portable -- otherwise I'll shift over to cloud computing.

Like many of the software here it installed and operates fine from a flash drive. Mine happens to be a FAT format but I'm sure NFTS will work the same. I always try to install the software offerings on a flash drive first to be able to keep them in case of a need to reformat...Thanks GAOTD agin

Very simple to use! Very simple install.
I used the older version from GOTD and was quite impressed.

BTW: A little off-topic: GOTD is a great service itself, but the quality of commentary here is 99% adult and always very useful - especially for non-tech people like me as to its ease of use and capabilities.
THANKS to all.
