It did not detect the things that I KNOW start up. ESPECIALLY I did not like that it had to connect to the internet for a reason that I do not know...AFTER I uninstalled it! It HAD to connect to the internet using whatever means I wanted to go online with...i.e. It would use Firefox or Thunderbird or any program that was going online and send it's message back home or wherever it was sending. I have no idea and no way of knowing what information it collected and transmitted after the uninstall and after I scanned and cleaned the registry and after malware/spyware/adware scans. It seems to have transmitted that time and appears to finally be not active in my system...but who knows? I am beginning to not trust the programs I find on Giveawayoftheday!

Under those circumstances I make an excuse. So InControl is okay and a piece of software that's very useable. The malware report of "Spybot" is not specific enough and I relied on it.

Indeed I was pleased at first when I had a look at the installed InControl, and only after I applied "Spybot" I felt shocked. I look for the latest offer on GAOTD each day.

Fare well to all of us!

Re: #131 & 132 Thanks Boris (Virtuza Software) for clearing that rumor up even after the offer was over as I always check for answers to the later comments. Thanks for offering InControl through GOTD! I read about your OverSpy on your site, and understood what it is intended for. I would have been interested if I still had any other users on my computers (such as teenagers). I have not found any reports of any problems since I downloaded InControl. Install went fine and with a little practice I will figure out the rest. It seems to be just what I needed since I use my computers for my business. However, I am not very good at knowing what I can remove or disable on start up so this will help me get some of the things to stop starting that I don't want to without fear of messing up anything. Thanks GOTD for offering it and I will keep on checking what you have. Just found your site recently. Thanks

InControl is free of adware, spyware and other malware or unwanted stuff. This is a known fault of Spybot's detection system.

OverSpy is a commercial PC monitoring software. It is not spyware, as spyware is something unknown malicious individuals distribute to steal other people's information. You buy OverSpy for yourself and the PCs you own to be able to monitor them (or your child who might be using them).

We (Virtuza Software) are legitimate company. Does it make any sense to publicly offer spyware here!?!

Just enjoy the free software you got, which is exactly the same one you could've bought for $29.95.

InControl is indeed in control - of your computer!
THE PROGRAM CONTAINS MALWARE OF THE WORST KIND.
IT CONTAINS A KEYLOGGER. IT IS THE KEYLOGGER WHICH Virtuoza Software, Inc. OFFERS QUITE CYNICAL IN AN ADVERTISEMENT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DOWNLOAD WINDOW. IT READS:
"OverSpy captures all online conversations, web sites visited, all emails sent and received, all keystrokes typed, all computer operations and opened documents, and takes screenshots every few minutes. Total surveillance! All this is happening in full stealth mode so the person you are monitoring will never be aware of it."
THAT'S CRIMINAL! OverSpy IS CONTAINED IN InControl AND USED AGAINST YOU. THEY PUNISH YOU FOR NOT WILLING TO BUY THE PAY VERSION OF InControl. THEY CAN REGISTER YOUR BANKING TRANSACTIONS!

Thanks to my habit of analysing the PC with "Spybot - Search & Destroy" before closing down I discovered the following: Spybot - Search & Destroy says with regard to InControl (partial german):

"Firma: Virtuoza Software, Inc. Produkt: Free-Key-Logger Bedrohung (Threat): Malware Beschreibung (Description): Free-Key-Logger installs into the system directory of your operating system and tries to record all keystrokes made by the user. In our tests it totally crashed the windows installation."

Installed it before midnight, but there was no name provided to enter into the registration. Saw the key. So couldn't install it. Too bad, really wanted to try it. Does it seem that the registration process is not working right for this one?

So, the Firefox crowd doesn't know their way around a computer. Microsoft AutoRuns, first mentioned way back in post #4, not that any Firefox users were able to read that far, is free and vastly superior, as I described in post #35. It's simple enough for even a Firefox user. I don't see any value in blacklisting--you're just substituting one process (InControl) for another. Exit the offending process (only terminate it if you can't exit or stop it), then disable it. If it still reappears, some other process is responsible for reinstating it. The first thing to do is to use AutoRuns to search for other tasks by the same vendor. If you can't find the correct process, you can uninstall or rename the process that you don't want (if you don't need it). Warning: the following tools are far too complex for Firefox users. To find the process that is launching the one that you don't want, you can use Microsoft Process Monitor, which is capable of capturing all registry, file, process, and thread activity from boot to shutdown (it has excellent filtering capability). There's also Microsoft Process Explorer, which is excellent for monitoring realtime process and thread activity (going back several minutes; maximize the graphs). You can also download the entire Microsoft Sysinternals Suite. Important: be sure to right-click each unzipped file, select Properties, and Unblock. I apologize if this was so much information that it caused some Firefox users to have seizures.

#83, your URL link for WinPatrol is incorrect because you added a comma after the link without leaving a space, and so the comma was included in the link, and so the link doesn't work. The correct URL is:

: )

Thank you GAOTD Team! I downloaded and used this product so that I could give a good evaluation on it.

I like that it only shows start-up programs that are not needed. Some of the programs in Msconfig and other places show everything that starts up. By shutting them down you can actually damage your computer. I also like the fact that I can pick and choose which programs I actually want to open at start up.

The "heal my Computer" is a good idea. I don't know whether or not it really works as there is no graph or anything to show what is being healed.

I can't imagine this program slowing any computer down as it only controls the Start-Up programs. I have found my start-up time has increased greatly.

Thanks again, GAOTD Team! Your work is appreciated.

I have been using Startup Control Panel from http://www.mlin.net/ for the last 8 years. It is exactly what I need & none of what I don't. There are two versions, one installs in the control panel. I use this version on my XP machines. The other is a standalone version and I use it on my Vista machines. It is very simple and straightforward and as always FREE. Anyone who is serious should check this program out.
Advanced Windows Care 2 also has a startup manager inside of it, for those who have it & didn't know.
I am going to evaluate the GOTD.......I will never stop using Startup Control Panel though. Everyone have a pleasant evening :)

Why is software called "free" when it is only a 30-day trial version? I would appreciate knowing if something is a demo BEFORE downloading it. Thanks for the giveaways, but this is not what I would call "free" software. It is trial version demo. :-( Donna

After reading posts down to #84 I was sure to download GAOTD Software! It appeared to be a fairly good program? until Post #85(Swan) I ignored #43comments on "A Keylogger" as possibly incorrect? but after reading #85's remarks! I am not willing to take the chance as the last thing I want on my PC is a "Miner" (Keylogger)
Not worth the risk peeps! Thanks GAOTD but No Thanks once again

I really would like to use this program. I see that I am not the only one with this problem. What can we do when this happens?

Hello #92 Mr. Baek,

"why didn’t it come with activate on this one? Mine’s only a trial version for 30 days… does anyone else have this problem?"

It did come with the activation key - I guess you didn't view the read me file first.

Install by executing the setup file and THEN the details will come up for activation. It's a little different this time, but you'll definitely get the full version.

This isn't the first time we've needed to execute the setup file first.

I hope that helps!

#19 - Getting rid of qttask is easy. Enter Task Manager by right-clicking Taskbar and selecting Task Manager or press CTRL-ALT-DEL to enter Task Manager. Find qttask is the list and End Process. Go into Quicktime Installation folder and rename qttask.exe to something else. I use qttask-useless.exe. If you simply delete qttask.exe it recreates itself. If you rename it though, it doesn't. Hope this helps.
